I had never heard of Haley's Comet either and I played it for the first time at CAX. My first game I set the high score! Don't know how long I held the top spot but I was stoked (to use an 80's term).

Yea, Time Gal is a Great game. It never even really occurred to me that a cabinet even existed out there for it. I was blown away to see it. Id kill to play an upright!!

Man, I used to play The Grid and Zombie Revenge at my arcade all the time. Those were like the last two major 'new' arcade games I could remember playing.

Hey John, Just a little follow up. I was the one that sent you the question about my monitor having a high pitched hum. I recently had it looked at my a local professional and he said that it is common for some monitors to have a hum (some may be worse then others) and couldn't find anything wrong with it. I did have him go ahead and recap it and replace the flyback...that definitely fixed some of the other issues, but the hum is still there. I guess it's just something that I will live with...it's not too bad and as I mentioned before it's the most noticeable during the attract mode (and some games). Thanks and keep the awesome videos coming!

My childhood arcade had Bega's Battle... and it sucked from my recollection. The discussion about its demise makes perfect sense.
That's actually what Cliff Hanger looked like in Aladdin's Castle. Beautiful extremely rare game. Leave it to Pioneer to make such a versatile niche Laser Disc player in the early 1990's long past the shelf life of the original laser discs. Snow Bros. was the most underrated game of the 90's.

If you're in the US and want to play Road Blaster, it was released as Road Avenger for Sega CD
Time Gal came out on Sega CD John as well as Road Blaster but it was called Road Avenger and It has the corniest but best game intro song.
John, this is EXACTLY what the experience is at Zapcon in Mesa, AZ in April. Everyone is so cool. Saw some of the same heavy hitters there too. You need to come out next year. Let me know if you want to collab. I'm definitely going and I can introduce you to people.

I saw a computer space there and also the JROK proto ZooQ board before release. That led to meeting Joe who let me try proto MultiVs. (Also saw Kaelan who drove from CA). Bunch of great guys (oh and yes, then there was Star Fighter's arcade. QUALITY experience bro! You should go, I'll buy you a beer or two!

Can not wait for the 2017 California Extreme. I did not see Capcom 'Forgotten Worlds' in the recent 2016. I wish someone will have Street Fighter 3rd Strike for the 2017 California Extreme.

Here in Ireland original arcade machines are very hard to find and if one does come up they are priced at some ridiculous cost.
Anyway I build these from old poker cabinets and they are so popular and people are telling me to put them into our local pubs , but I would rather sell or rent these for home use only.
Anyway just wanted to know your thoughts on this subject.

I love your videos John as always but wow you didn't even acknowledge Dragon Breed (Irem, 1989) when you passed the cabinet. The game is awesome, you should check it out.

ARGH! I wanted to scream when you walked away from Eeekk without showing the game play! It's not dumped for MAME yet and I came within a hair of getting the PCB off Ebay some months back, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if that was the one I lost on.

Actually the same guy working on dumping Eeekk is also dumping a board I lent him called Victory by Comsoft, the board didn't work when I had it so it'll be interesting to see what that game is like too if/when it's emulated. It was built on a modified Galaxian board with a security module, but wasn't booting when I had it.
You missed the Astro Blaster... it was released in 1981 and was way ahead of its time. Love that game!

Intellivision has Astrosmash. It was one of my favourite games on that system.
Also, on the Intellivision system, Space Armada was Space Invaders and Space Hawk was based on Asteroids

woo my question got through :P i never heard about ultimark before! im checking it out now and i think i might do that. i never thought about just using a different restrictor either, as a matter of fact, im pretty sure on my sanwa sticks, all you have to do is just twist the restrictor inside the restrictor plate 45 degrees and its supposed to make it into a 4 way but i never tried so ill do that with a madcatz stick i have lying around
does anyone know if they make "low profile" american parts that could fit into a japanese fight stick? i know they have korean sticks like crowns that fit into japanese mounts but usually the american sticks and buttons are always huge

Just a thought, Maybe next year now that you have your mugs to sell. Maybe get a load of keyrings done, beer coasters etc. Slip a bit of the Killscreens stuff on the stand too. Give the public chance to come meet you face to face. Just thought it it may help highten the profile of the channel. I work at a lot of live events as a stage engineer so am in this sort of environment a lot.

For the what its worth dept. If you own Pinball games with those plastic ramps, they look dirty, to clean them use Rubbing compound and they will look new again. :)

it's a pity you didn't get to play a bit of Bishi Bashi on the real cabinet as that game is so crazy and fun and one of the games I wanted to suggest for another of your mame playthroughs. Think of it as Mario Party meets Wario Ware as you play a bunch of high paced random mini-games.
That's what sucks about doing a review of hundreds of games at once. It's just not possible to play them. :)
Yeah, or at least play them all as you didn't play time gal also least not on video and I was really excited about that one. Had no idea it has an arcade version or a laser active version for that matter and that cabinet looked so legit I never would have guessed it was a scratch build.

oh man the music game section... 42:17 is one of my all time favorites, paraparaparadise! basically dancing, but more emphasis on hand movements... I can't believe I'm going to make this comparison but it's like the macarena from the 90s, each song had it's own set routine and as you moved your hands to hit the arrows DDR style, you score points and get graded at the end on your performance.
oh and most importantly the j in jubeat is silent!

Probably when he was editing the video he suddenly noticed the address on the box was showing and blurred it out. If he would of rememberd before the recording im sure he woulda turned the box round or cut label off.

I can actually help w/ that viewer mail regarding the joystick. I'm one of the wanna be fans that has no money or room for a real setup, so I roll MAME as best I can.
I have an old, giant SlikStik (out of business) and this year replaced my dedicated 4-way with an Ultimarc UltraStick 360.
I can NOT recommend this enough. I have it setup to be 360-Way. The way it works is, it's got a chip on it so you can program the pattern. It's a 3x3 grid. 3 Rows & 3 Columns. Like Tic-Tac-Toe. In each box though, is ANOTHER grid of 3x3. You set these boxes to go in whatever way you want.
For example, 4-way has the cross. Up, Down, Left & Right boxes. All of the interior boxes of those are set to go in that direction (up, down, etc..). The cool part is that you prevent dead zones by also programming the diagonals! So Top Left is half Left and half Up. So it all feels original and smooth.
They have a program that does it all and you can find files for game already mapped. But once you get a 2-way, 4-way, 8-way Q*bert, etc.. that you're happy with, you just apply it to every game of that type.
The maps are INI files for MAME with the filename matching the ROM name. Tedious if you can't find pre-made, but once it's done, it's done. When MAME loads the game, the joystick responds like the original. Or hell, message me on RUclips and I'll be happy to send anyone my set of INI's
What's awesome is that it works for anything barring rotary, twist, etc.. I use it for Star Wars, Food Fight, etc.. in 360-degree mode (360-Way).
So he can just get 1 stick, and play almost everything!

I have once seen and played a Professor Pac-Man. At Disneyland, of all places. Educational trivia. Harder then Donkey Kong Jr. Math and not as fun. A very bizarre notion, to say the least. Then again, a hybrid pinball/pac-maze runner was out of left field, too.
I agree, it's not a cheap trip, or hotel. But it is pretty damn cool.

Y'all need to come to replayfx in Pittsburgh. Bigger venue with the same amount (if not more )games and pins. Though it's hard to beat those California prototypes. And I like clever modernization like the superer sprint. On the converse I find the giant PAC mans to be utter shit.

Would post the URL. But, it's like a billion characters. The price is probably way over inflated... $3,200.00 (From $154 for 24 months*) ...or maybe it's not. I heard you say this game is a goal to find and these always struck me as falling under the uncommon category. Most pinball is often up there in price and I've no idea if this is ballpark or a fair price tag. So, I just thought I would share.

I think I may have seen one at our local tip in the 90s, but we didn't always have the cash to buy everything, as there was so much there.
Tons of both common and obscure "retro" machines, telex machines, TVs, VCRs, and the occasional fruit / arcade machine (although most of those were scrapped, sadly. :( )
I did have a Mega CDX from there once, but that's long gone now.
A LaserActive would be awesome, as I like Laserdiscs too.
