- Remember that Elecraft K2 that we got at the hamfest? How good is it really? Let's go in depth on the deal, power it up and see what it does! Do we need to make a punch list for repairs and start getting out the catalogs or are we getting on the air right away?

There is a reason that people that buy a elecraft buy more , nice radio TO !
Very well thought out for sure!
Yeah. I can't wait for a kxFOUR!
@barrybogart5436 That's my /only excuse/ for not having a KX2 or KX3 right now... 😉
That's good quality their, tnx Steve great video!
Ubet, thanks!
Love the Elecraft! Classic and classy design! 73
Me too!
The SSB is the hardest module to build. It's pretty tight but doable.
Yeah, it looked like a tight build. I found one already built and I have a video on the install coming up.
Nice find. looking at the memories he was a CW op.
Yes he was. I just finished putting the SSB module in it.
Super find!
I think so too!
I built one. It took a long time. I built every available module including the 2meter 440 transverters.
Awesome!
I saw several uncompleted K2’s at Hamvention flea market. Boxes had been opened but mostly unsoldered; Purchased, but given-up on. Still relatively high-priced.
I didn't see those. That would have been a good find!
Very nice!! I notice no snow on the ground outside!!
(This was filmed pre-snow, shhh)
Thanks for looking at the K2. You got a good deal. Mine is barefoot and I use the T-1 tuner. I built it when I was relicensed after many years, just for the 'real hams build their rigs' experience. (I was originally licensed in 57!) It was NOT easy. Especially the 17 toroids. Before I even finished it I bought an IC-703 which were being discontinued, then got a KX3 which I still use today. So my K2 is virtually unused. Of course the KX3 is superb, but I have heard that the K2 has better ears and audio. It was close to the top of the Sherwood list when it came out. So I look forward to your assessment, 72
We did a live stream where you can hear QSOs. Check it out! She's great!
@@temporarilyoffline I did watch it. BTW have you heard about the spectrum scope in the Tru(SDX) beta? ruclips.net/video/N-egrMMcIrA/видео.html
@barrybogart5436 I saw that this morning, that's really awesome!
Yes, plug a 20 Amp source to the power pole connector and a low amp source in the other. If your high power source dies (battery), the radio switches to 10 watts and you are still on the air.. You wire the mic connector based on the mic you will be using.
Exactly!
If you set an antenna for a band (IE you have an 80m dipole, and a 40 through 10. You can set the radio to automatically switch antenna ports when you go to that band.
Yes, it was left that way from the previous owner and I wasn't expecting it. There is also a Receive Only antenna
@@temporarilyoffline I had one when they first came out. Another in a long line of mistakes in selling good radios!
You sent it to a good home, and it has been spoiled with many QSOs!
Nice kit, your making Jim jealous 😅
Oh. That's easy!
It's alive!⚡️😅
It's awesome!
I want it.👍
I can ship it to your US contact 😏
@@temporarilyoffline I'd like that but the big boss would freak out if I had to bring back a big radio. Haha
I'm hoping to visit my son and daughter in-law in Virginia later this year before they come home.
Radio prices are high here as there is little competition and used ones get pounced on straight away. I'll definitely be getting something this year though. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing more vids on the K2.👍
@DonzLockz it's not that big, you could sneak it in under your jacket!😇
@@temporarilyoffline haha, I'll find a way!😁👍
You have nearly $2K worth of K2 parts for $750. Wow.
It was a great buy! Thanks for watching!
great dind and a great video T.O. but you didn't start it with your normal intro. I kep waiting for you to point to yourself but we never saw you until the end. That K2 got you all confused or something?
Always evolving!
Elecraft's stuff really is beautiful inside and out. It's just so damaging to the poor wallet. 😂
I got a super deal on this one!
Building the Mercury IIIs was fun. And it still works 😁 I gotta quit watching these. I just keep wanting every radio I see.
Me too... message me on discord if you want it, I Ship nationwide!
You should be seeing 110 watts
You're right!
Maybe the radio (without a tuner) will produce 110 watts if power is dumped into a 50 ohm RF load? Some non-commercial builds are not limited by the technician’s knowledge, but the availability of proper alignment equipment. If the LC network is not perfect, there could be a significant waste in power. Just a thought.
@@markusberg2770 I think you nailed it Markus - sometimes I get excited by new shiny and I forget a step here and there. I can see on 40m the tuner wasn't showing 1:1 and that steals some power for sure!
@@markusberg2770 There's a calibration process, probably needs re-doing. Not sure what the accuracy of the wattmeter is either, there are many factors at play.
Repairability. Everything in it can be repaired and replaced.
Definitely!
Bragger
It could be yours!
Congrats, this is a real nice cute for a very very good price! de Wolf, oe7ftj
It really is!
