I’m getting ready to get back into quilting and I’m glad I found your channel. I’m planning on making a quilt each month but we’ll see 😅. I just have a plan to make my family members and quilt of their own….. wish me luck
It’s been probably three years since I sat down with my sewing machine but I’m excited to get going.

Hello! I hope you have an awesome week ahead. I very much enjoyed this video and was able to sit and hand quilt. Thanks for posting this video!

Thanks. I get confused selvage to selvage or not. This is clear and precise.

I think you probably already do this sometimes instead of cutting toward yourself for the first cut. Line up with the original ruler and then use another ruler to butt it up next to that ruler and cut away!

I cut my first piece a little larger and then fix the “off side”. Also if you cut 5” strips and then cut those in half you’re making fewer cuts on the main fabric. Time to go swap out my dull blade. Great video❣️

That's how I do it, both of your changes. Still, cutting makes me nervous. I don't mind sewing and pressing but the cutting is so final! 😅

Thanks for your videos. I am wondering where you got your cutting mat? Also, I am making the Nordic triangles quilt and would like to make the smaller sized half square triangles but make it into a throw sized quilt. Any idea how many of each of the 7.75 inch square of each fabric I would need of each colour? I will be making it into a quilt jacket for my daughter in law.

But why not cut right to left ? I’m just starting out, never had to cut any fabric ever yet.

It's a Rhino clear mat with a white grid behind it. I love it!

1st thing is you need a large cutting table.

I just found your channel and have been watching some of your videos. I BEG you, BEG you to correct that part about cutting towards yourself. I've seen too many terrible injuries done by rotary cutters to quilters who have been careless or using poor techniques and cutting the left side of your fabric as you do (and did in a video a year ago) is one of the worst things you can do! one wrong move or distraction and you've no control over your blade. Make your first cut on the right side of the fabric and then pick it up and flip it to the left and recheck for straight cuts. Also, please please open your cutter, make the cut and CLOSE the cutter immediately!! When I taught my classes we spent the most time on that one small move. If you neglect to do that and you should drop that open cutter on your barefoot, you've going to the ER.
I like your precision and what I've seen with your designs just please err on the side of caution...if you insist on making the straightening cut on the left then get a June Taylor Shape shift ruler and overlay your fabric with the ruler and make your first cut that way.
