The part "they lost ya" is when they started referencing songs of theirs you are less familiar with. Each live jam for extended songs they go a multitude of differtent ways so its a different experience esch time
when they jam this one live the usually quote classic blues songs... therse ones were “Got My Mojo Working” (Ann Cole) quotes, “Sweet Home Chicago” (Robert Johnson) quotes, “My Babe” (Little Walter) quotes, Cut Throat Boogie (Gizz song from 12BB) quotes, “Going Up the Country” (Canned Heat) quotes
Ambrose’s vocals halfway through the live version are a reference to one of the songs off their first album, Cut Throat Boogie. It’s very very different from Fishies as its a straight forward punk track, so don’t worry too much. Also as you can see at the end, they brought in instrumentals from a couple different songs. most notably The Dripping Tap but also the section before that was the opening riff from Head On/Pill, the opener for their third album.
The fact you're loving this vibe makes me double down on something I said months ago: you and your dad should pick a Murloc's album (honestly pick one at random) and even if it's off camera in your spare time together, just listen to it straight through. I don't need it on video, I just want you guys to bond over music 🤝
According to Stu, Boogieman Sam is there sound guy at all their gigs who they describe as a hidden member of the band and show love for in the same way they do for their art guy Jason Galea. When I listened to this song on acid and with different ears on I could really feel and see the love and cheer they put into this song.
as others said the ending is a Gizz medley wrapped up in the Boogieman Sam groove, there was "Cut Throat Boogie", "Head On/Pill", and "Dripping Tap"... this is definitely where Gizz is live now where they're liable to drift in and out of other songs while in a jam. it's all very loose and organic and, love it or hate it, they seem to like to try out different things at live shows. it'll be interesting to see if/how they incorporate that jam mentality to Silver Cord material, assuming they start playing that stuff live.
There are indeed at least some riffs from other songs in that live performance. I recognized one from one of the older albums that you haven't reacted yet to as well as part of The Dripping Tap at the end.
I was at this show! This was in Chicago in June '23, and this nasty-ass cold front popped a squat over the city for the whole three day run of shows. It was 55 and raining pretty much the whole time.
I agree, that's a much better jam. But it transitions into sleep walker, which he hasn't heard yet. But tbf, it will take forever to get to that album since its one of the least liked. So no big deal listening to it I think.
the salt shed is in chicago and it was a little chilly those days in the 50s and windy, the second day was fine but the 3rd we were getting rained out the whole day but it was so worth it. they opened with metal tracks and in the rain it was so fucking good. ill never forget hearing converge in the pouring rain
I can't lie, the whole show as great, from the microtonal songs to the metal songs to Trapdoor+Satan Speeds up then the last 4 songs being jam sessions
The Cut Throat Boogie part is from a song with the same name off of their first album 12 Bar Bruise, so not on FFF. It's a cool deep cut about a not so cool deep cut in Ambys neck.
Hey man, loving your journey through the Gizzverse. I've been a fan for only about 2 years. Did the same thing, listened to album by album, always amazed by the different styles and techniques. Next albums you should check out are I'm In Your Mind Fuzz, Gumboot Soup and Quarters.
Thought this would come out at tooth-hurty. Jokes. Hope you feel better, sir! EDIT: Just got to the part where you literally said your tooth started hurting at 2:30! 💀
I screamed when I saw you were gonna react to this live version 🔥 There’s a lot of cool references and I love the jam. Another amazing live version I really wish you will check out is ”This thing” that comes later on in this album. The live version at Lowlands is iiiincredible 🥹 Starts at 24.50 I believe: ruclips.net/video/y8Wawh9X7GM/видео.htmlsi=n8a9N8ZitOmgNyYn
Ah the jam included a bit from another Gizz song, not from the Fishies album though (won't say which one so it's still a surprise 😅) Edit: at least two other Gizz songs lol Edit 2: at least 3 other Gizz songs. I should finish watching before commenting
Cut throat boogie, head on/pill, dripping tap. I like it when jams involve other songs, however since you’re going one song at a time and don’t know all their songs it’s probably not the best time hearing a bunch of unrelated riffs you don’t know
This track is a favorite of mine. I for sure prefer the studio version, as good as live versions are. Speaking of, during the live versions, this is kinda their song where they just make references. No songs from Fishing For Fishies were referenced here (at least I think so). However, they do reference a couple other King Gizz songs and some non-Gizz songs that I don't know about. For the Gizz songs they reference, there's Cut Throat Boogie from 12 Bar Bruise, their debut garage surf punk albun, Head On/Pill from Float Along - Fill Your Lungs, their 3rd album and the first one where they started jamming, and The Dripping Tap, which you already know about. During other performances, they reference other songs and even transition into the full other song sometimes. Next is The Bird Song, one of my least favorites on the album. Something about it feels "bouncy" and not in a good way (at least to me).
unfortunate. Probably my least favorite live version of Boogieman Sam. The transitions are kind of sloppy and you can tell the band wasn't nearly as tight as usual. Probably did have something to do with the frigid weather tbh. They did this same kind of "Boogieman Jam" performance earlier in this very same tour, at The Caverns. It has a completely different energy. The Caverns version is so unbelievably tight and rock solid, was much more of a Boogieman Sam-focused jam, didn't contain any future song spoilers, absolutely nailed multiple tempo shifts with 0 beats dropped, and had their most iconic, mind-melting outro ever. Made even more badass by them all rocking dresses. If you get the chance, I really recommend you check that performance out too.

Btw that robot on the cover is Han-Tyumi :)

Oh wild, they worked mojo working into the Boogieman jam at the night 3 at the caverns show too. Didn't realize they repeated that.

Shout out to that rhythm section during these jams.
One of my fav songs on the album, Red Rocks 2022 version is another one to check out. I believe it is a better overall version than this one.
way better

absolutely their best live version

I was at this show, it was cold as shit lol but the pit was nice and warm but the whole metal suite with witchcraft and the last hour was mind blowing
I can't lie, the whole show as great, from the microtonal songs to the metal songs to Trapdoor+Satan Speeds up then the last 4 songs being jam sessions
Imagine playing Witchcraft in the cold ❄️🤲❄️
