Saw Black Sabbath in 1974 at the Spectrum in Philly.Along with Boston and Frank Zappa.I was in the Navy at the time and was 17 years old.I'm 63 now and remember it well.Tickets were $7.

a huge leap in their progression and this was 1972 when nothing else like this existed. Vol. 4 isn't revered like Paranoid and Master of Reality but I love it even more because they took real chances with the music while the kids were watching David Cassidy lol

All members except Jimmy Page showed up when Sabbath were recording Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and they jammed to this with Bonham on drums. Plant and Jones cheered them on. It is said it was recorded by Tony but he's not sure where it ended up. The reason for Zep showing up was to see if Sabbath would join Zeps new label Swan Song. But they declined.
Plant and Bonham knew Sabbath before they were in Zeppelin. Before Sabbath was a band. Before they were called Earth. One day Some of members saw a band setting up to play concert and they said that's Robert Plant. They said hey mate you in New band. Robert says yes I joined the Yardbirds. They changed their name to Led Zeppelin later on. John Bonham was best man at Tony Iommis wedding also.
I remember hearing Bill Ward saying he was scared to have Bonham play is drum kit because Bonham was notorious for destroying drum heads from hitting them so hard.

Anything off of Sabatage. Hole in the sky, symptom of the universe, Megalomania, The thrill of it all, the Writ. Best album IMHO. He really couldn't do much off that album after a short while. His voice could not hit the notes. I have everything by them, even the Tony Martin days. I even have the bootleg with Ray Gillian doing the Eternal Idol album. It was totally re-recorded with Tony Martin after Ray Left(asked to leave) RIP, and went on with Jake E Lee to start Badlands. There is another great album. Badlands. I have a copy of the third one Dusk that was never released. All 3 of the badlands albums were great, but the first is by far the best.

Because you don't just have 1 or 2 really good band members carrying the band; each of the 4 members of both bands were absolutely incredible at what they did. I mean, Ozzy and Robert: 2 of the best and most unique singers to ever live. Jimmy Page and Tony Iommi: 2 of the best and most innovative guitarists to ever play. John Paul Jones and Geezer Butler: 2 of the greatest bassists to ever play. And then you have John Bonham and Bill Ward: who are unquestionably 2 of the best drummers that have ever lived. Been listening Black Sabbath since was I was 10 am 60 now. Still love it! Most kids were listening to the The Monkees and Archies. I knew it was great it made me want to practice guitar day and night. Some of the kids parents thought it was terrible music but I knew Black Sabbath was kid ass it didn't bother me what they thought.
Black Sabbath’s debut album turns 50 years Feb 13, so it would be a perfect day for another Sabbath song ..with Ozzy, Dio, Gillan, Hughes or Tony Martin ..all the eras have many gems.
Into the Void is probably my favourite Sabbath song. Other good ones are: Black Sabbath, The Wizard, Fairies Wear Boots, Children of the Grave, Snowblind, etc.
Like I've mentioned before, you can not go wrong with anything from the first 5 Black Sabbath albums. I really love the funky section of this song. I've have never found any info about that section of the song, but I would not be surprised at all if it was inspired by Carlos Santana and his band.
As the title says, Vol. 4 is the 4th Sabbath album. N.I.B. is off Black Sabbath, which was their first album, so you can hear the progression of Ozzy from his rawer blues style on the debut to how he was here, in only 2 years. And he still was to develop further on the next two albums, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage, which contain some of the best vocals Ozzy ever performed, imo.
This almost has a disco vibe, but something else that i noticed was in the riff it sounded like he stopped playing in the middle and the bass filled in part of the riff,it sounds like with slides or bravado,never heard this before in any song, very creative, let me know if you hear what i hear!!!
Mister frank zappa considered this song in his top 5 all time. John bonham of led zeppelin considered it his favorite Black Sabbath song. This needs to be played at 11 so your neighbors can sing along.

This was from the 70’s and was their fourth album, hence, Vol 4. When I was in high school the students were allowed to play music over the PA system in the halls during passing periods; this was my first exposure to Vol 4. Ozzy was the original frontman/vocalist for Sabbath. Dio joined them after Ozzy was gone.
As well as Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio, they have also had, Ian Gillan (Born Again), Glenn Hughes (Seventh Star) and Tony Martin (Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, TYR, Cross Purposes and Forbidden) as lead singers. Ronnie sang on Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumaniser and The Devil You Know (although the band was called Heaven and Hell, it was the same line up as Mob Rules.)
what really incredible ..is that Tony had the ends of his fingers cut off when he worked in a steel plant ..he melted some plastic to fit those fingers and still uses them today
Consider this: Tony is right handed. He taught himself to play left handed because nobody told him how to play right handed before he learned to play. If you really listen to his live solos, there are moments where you can tell his brain is running faster than his fingers can keep up. I always wondered why there were these occasional 'bursts' of scales in those solos until I found that out.

Black Sabbath is and will always be my favourite metal band of the 70's...all the guitar riffs that Tony Iommi invented are mind-blowing, he really was ahead of his time. Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were great bands with excellent musicians, no doubt about that but Black Sabbath was some kind of "monster band". There are a lot of Black Sabbath songs you can listen to : "Hand of Doom", "The Wizard", "Hole in the Sky", "Symptom of the Universe", "Electric Funerals", "Children of the Grave", "Into the Void", "Lord of this World",...very cool video as usual!!
Hey man, I came across your channel looking for Pantera reactions and I gotta tell you I instantly fell in love with your personality and appreciation for music. I recommend you earlier Pnatera stuff ('83-'88), which was more of a glam metal. I recommend song "Forever Tonight" form 1985 for very very different vibe (singer at the time was Terry Glaze) or "We'll meet again" from next album with Philip Anselmo for moderately different vibe and solo that will make you wet. There were three singers actually. For one album after Ozzy left they had Ian Gillan the singer for Deep Purple. Yes the best riff ever. Every note is amazing and the break is amazing. It sounds like a religious experience like a cult or something like they were really into it.

This was from the 70’s and was their fourth album, hence, Vol 4. When I was in high school the students were allowed to play music over the PA system in the halls during passing periods; this was my first exposure to Vol 4. Ozzy was the original frontman/vocalist for Sabbath. Dio joined them after Ozzy was gone.

As well as Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio, they have also had, Ian Gillan (Born Again), Glenn Hughes (Seventh Star) and Tony Martin (Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, TYR, Cross Purposes and Forbidden) as lead singers. Ronnie sang on Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumaniser and The Devil You Know (although the band was called Heaven and Hell, it was the same line up as Mob Rules.)
what really incredible ..is that Tony had the ends of his fingers cut off when he worked in a steel plant ..he melted some plastic to fit those fingers and still uses them today
Consider this: Tony is right handed. He taught himself to play left handed because nobody told him how to play right handed before he learned to play. If you really listen to his live solos, there are moments where you can tell his brain is running faster than his fingers can keep up. I always wondered why there were these occasional 'bursts' of scales in those solos until I found that out.

Black Sabbath is and will always be my favourite metal band of the 70's...all the guitar riffs that Tony Iommi invented are mind-blowing, he really was ahead of his time. Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were great bands with excellent musicians, no doubt about that but Black Sabbath was some kind of "monster band". There are a lot of Black Sabbath songs you can listen to : "Hand of Doom", "The Wizard", "Hole in the Sky", "Symptom of the Universe", "Electric Funerals", "Children of the Grave", "Into the Void", "Lord of this World",...very cool video as usual!!
Hey man, I came across your channel looking for Pantera reactions and I gotta tell you I instantly fell in love with your personality and appreciation for music. I recommend you earlier Pnatera stuff ('83-'88), which was more of a glam metal. I recommend song "Forever Tonight" form 1985 for very very different vibe (singer at the time was Terry Glaze) or "We'll meet again" from next album with Philip Anselmo for moderately different vibe and solo that will make you wet. T Tony is so great 😁 on the guitar. And he lost fingertips on his fret hand. It was before they had ever recorded any songs as wells.

There were three singers actually. For one album after Ozzy left they had Ian Gillan the singer for Deep Purple. Yes the best riff ever. Every note is amazing and the break is amazing. It sounds like a religious experience like a cult or something like they were really into it.
