      Have you listened to any Motley Crue? That was my fathers favorite til the day he died he passed away six years ago to heroin overdose it breaks my heart so there’s some drug awareness for you it will kill you doesn’t matter who you are heroin doesn’t care who you are it will kill you, Motley Crue had some drug issues in the past that their bassist Nikki sixx wrote and had a solo album about I know a lot of older rock music talks about dark stuff but their era of time none of the stuff was out that’s out now so they spoke messages in their songs. March is my fathers birthday month I’m gonna give a shout out for some sort of heroin/ drug awareness, maybe play a song off of Nikki sixxs album about it, it’s sad how many people we lose to drugs I miss my father everyday but he was wrong for it he knows I’m upset but he’s in peace his life wasn’t easy it ate him up inside and it’s sad 😔 I wish people would reach out more when their in trouble but thanks man I love your stuff keep doing you LFR fam your awesome

      I heard Geezer say it was inspired by their first tour of the US; many in the audience were current and former soldiers of the Vietnam war. When they got to know some of these fans, Geezer realized they were traumatized and self-medicating with smack. He wrote the lyrics, so I trust that version.

    People talk about Sabbath being heavy metal, but just wait a second there, you're shortchanging a great band. There's blues, funk, rock, punk, metal. Sabbath was much more than the sum of their alleged metal parts.

    • @OzzFan1000
      @OzzFan1000 2 года назад +2

      Sabbath actually started out as a blues band before adding elements of rock (punk, funk, and metal weren't really a think at that time). The fusion of blues and rock is the basis for metal and is why Black Sabbath is considered the progenitors of heavy metal.

    • @miguelfg93
      @miguelfg93 2 года назад

      Tony Iommi said he considered Black Sabbath as Hard Rock not Heavy Metal.

    • @OzzFan1000
      @OzzFan1000 2 года назад +1

      Most progenitors of a new thing fail to see themselves as being the beginning of a new thing. They tend to see themselves as just doing their own thing. It is usually outside observers that notice when a new thing is truly the start of something different and decide to put a new label on it.
      So while Iommi and Ozzy both have said they view their music as hard rock, most everyone else recognizes their band as the start of heavy metal, myself included.

      As a drummer with a Black Sabbath tattoo on my arm and wearing my vest with a Black Sabbath backpatch I can't do anything but agree. Black Sabbath are undisputed. Bill is my favorite drummer now, however Bonham was for many years and also the reason that got me into drumming. But Black Sabbaths songs and as a band overall beats Zeppelin. Very different bands though, so it's hard to compare. But still, Sabbath is better 😄

    • @nodaysback1
      @nodaysback1 3 года назад +3

      I used to hold a hard stance on the Sabbath v Zeppelin debate.. that Sabbath crushed Zeppelin w/o question and Iommi made Page get him more beer all day long. loll smh.. have since lightened up a little bit on it..
      Zeppelin earned a place among RnR's Elite bands of the classic era. Their list and variety of hits is undeniable.
      After a certain level is attained, the choice becomes which type of "great" do you prefer?
      That said, Sabbath's tone stops you in your tracks and their groove hits you with the brute force of a run away cement truck.
      No other band was doing that back then. That's why *Sabbath will Always be the King of That Particular Hill.*
      Edit:
      Btw... Yes, Ward and Bonham were old friends from Birmingham...
      But, Bonham was actually Iommi's best man at his first wedding!

MANY of them came back, ALREADY addicted to heroin, and were trying to escape the mental anguish they indured. I was 9 years old when this album first came out, My Dad had just come back from a 2 year "Tour", working in a MASH type unit. Luckily he turned to Religion to cope. On a Good note, listening to this album inspired me to play guitar and achieve a wonderful career in music.

    "Drop the acid pill" - I always took that to be ironic. It says "To you it's shallow leisure" -- and so that's why the "fool" will go ahead and drop the acid pill. It started with the bomb, Viet Nam Napalm -- then the veteran got back home and tried to escape Shell Shock by using deadly drugs. It's just a story of a person coming back from war and turning to drugs. This happens all the time. Also, I see this as an anti-drug song, so not glorifying heavy drugs and death, but rather warning the potential victim of addiction. A desperate plea for the addict to stop before it's too late.

    yeah man, it is dark, and groovy, and soulful, and yes even fun! That part in the middle when the heavy groove drops "You're having a good time baby..."- that part kills me every time. Its all about soldiers dealing with PTSD and turning to drugs

    The Sabbath is actually Sunday. They named themselves after a 1963 Boris Karloff horror film because they were going to make music about the not so nice side of life.

      J. Anthony, you may not mean to correct me but, you’re doing a really good job! In ancient times the Sabbath was Saturday. For an awful long time, Christianity has proclaimed Sunday as the Sabbath. The only religion that didn’t go along with this view was the Seventh Day Adventist’s which, as their name implies, still worship on the Saturday.

    Nice reaction.🤘🏻 Actually, the story behind the band's name is interesting. They were called "Earth" at first but one day, they saw a movie title on the other side of the road and it was a horror movie called "Black Sabbath". So they thought it would be a cool idea to change their name since people pay for getting scared and they wanted to scare people as well.😁 And then they invented metal... Yep.🤘🏻 You should check out "Iron Man", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Symptom Of The Universe", just to name a few.
    Singer - Ozzy Osbourne
    Guitarist and riffgod - Tony Iommi
    Bass player - Geezer Butler
    Drummer - Bill Ward

    Ozzy and Black Sabbath have songs for every drug, multiple songs for some, mostly because Ozzy has tried all the drugs and has opinions.

    The minute I started to feel your reaction, I wanted to comment. I am a huge Black Sabbath fan.
    You noticed the drummer right away. I love drummers, but I don't drum. I guitar.
    Why are they so great? I also like to think about Rock in a historical context. They are right in the transition between the hippies and the dark days of the 70's.
    Soul, yeah they got Fucking soul.
    Is this a deep song? Yeah I still don't completely understand it.
    Ozzy is one of kind. He can survive anything.
    OK, Led Zeppelin, my first love. But much more pop than Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath is way more hard core. A very deep Soul.
    I probably come back for more. The only problem is once I get started, I can't stop. I need a cage for my animal.
    Something else we both noticed. The switch ups. The sections really contrast and it makes the overall dynamics, amazing.
    Let me be straight. They were the first! Dirt poor and hungry. Pioneers on the frontier. A moment in time never to be repeated. In 1975, just after Vietnam ended and NIXON was impeached, they ruled the world. Giant bowls of coke, wall to wall twat. Unbelievable!
    Things I immediately liked about this video. Your snap. You snap, I snap. You got a great snap. Your real time reactions. Your sincerity. You included the lyrics.
    Your summary at the end was balls on!
    A few other comments. This is obviously about Vietnam. What is Vietnam? Have you seen Platoon? What is Platoon? Cain kills Abel. The bottom line, Cain never should have killed Abel.
    An instructive example, Jay-Z accidentally shot his brother. Draw your own conclusions.
    I would really like you to check this out.
    ruclips.net/video/cFwTbsKkqxE/видео.html
    If the link doesn't work, try, search RUclips for, Voodoo Child Stevie Ray Vaughan. Really amazing. I'm sure you could get a review out of this.
    By the way, I'm originally from Wisconsin. SRV died from a helicopter crash at Alpine Valley, in Wisconsin. A very strong memory for me.
    Stay strong brother! Yeah !

    The song can also be viewed as the dark side of the counter-culture and flower power movement of the 1960's. People were looking for an escape from the reality of war and social strife and they got caught up in the drug lifestyle. The problem is that lifestyle quickly escalates and you're taking your own life into your hands when you start doing heroin.
