Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. I prefer to paint the decks and I learned that I am not a fan of the prefab aftermarket deck applications. I was asked to build a model of the USS Texas in 1/350 scale. The model and all the aftermarket parts were provided for me by the person requesting the build. This included the aftermarket deck application. I can say now, since dealing with this deck, I do not like the deck applications. Painting the deck, to me, is so much easier than dealing with this aftermarket monster. Of course this is just my opinion. I'm sure that there are those out there that prefer the application over painting. Thank you again for the comment and for watching the video. Best wishes!
Looks great! Nice job on the deck. Even though I have 4 ships in the stash and one standing by 1/2 built, I am getting the itch to add an Arizona. It would be my first 1/200 scale kit and I have the perfect display case waiting to be filled.
I've to the memorial twice, with many unanswered questions, your model has done so much for showing us what it was like on board when her heart was beating .
I have not had the opportunity to visit the Memorial for the USS Arizona, it is on my "to do" list. This video was quickly put together and one of my first. Your comments made an impression on me that this is not just a video of a model. I really need to revisit this make a decent video to honor this vessel. I sincerely appreciate your comments and thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for your comment. I spent considerable time on painting and research. There is not a great deal of color photos available. I agree about the figures, they do seem to add a little something extra to the model. Thank you for watching the video, best wishes!
Thank you! I have had a lot of comments on the deck painting. In fact, so many that I did a separate video on how to paint wooden decks. Check it out if you have time. Thanks for watching this video and for your comment. Best wishes!
Very well done. I'm working on my Trumpeter 1/200 Arizona and have reached a plateau. Time to walk away for a break. Reviewing your video has been very inspiring, clarified some areas and got me back in gear to do justice to the Arizona. Your rigging and crew distribution are of particular note and add so much to the overall project. Thanks for sharing.
Yep, sometimes you just have to take a break and walk away and clear the mind. The rigging on my model is as accurate as I could manage based on the references I had available. I still utilized some "poetic license" on the rigging. The crew and their "not generic" poses are one of the features I like too. They add a since of realism to the overall model, IMO. I appreciate your comments and thank you for watching the video. I hope you post your build as I would be interested in seeing your USS Arizona. Best wishes!
gorgeous, thank you, yours was a lesson for me as i am doing a 1/350 presently and am at painting stage, a few small or thin or tiny pieces still left buts ready for paint, i am actually very late painting , it will be tedious, but your wooden deck video is an immense help as was this final results gallery tour, again thank you
Thank you! I do really appreciate the comments. The deck seems to have been a success and I thank you once again for the compliment. Based on the comments about the deck I decided to make a video on how I did it. Please stay tuned! Thank you again!
Sounds like you have a lot on the bench! Once you get to this build you will have lots of experience on hand to make a very nice model. My next ship project is the 1/200 scale USS Enterprise CV6. I'm looking forward to that build! I hope you post some videos of your builds to share, I would enjoy seeing those models. Thank you for watching the video and for your comments. Best wishes!
Thank you for the comments, I appreciate them! The crew is from Shapeways 3D printing. These are the best I have found so far! I have had several comments on the deck and I will be publishing a video on how I did it soon! I just could not pay the price for that aftermarket deck! I am a huge aftermarket fan, don't misunderstand, but I think there are some thing that can be well done with a little effort. Try hand painting your deck. If worse comes to worse you can apply the aftermarket deck anyway! Give it a go!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. The figures are the best I have ever been able to find. I think that they are well made and come in a good variety of poses. Check out shapeways.com for any figure needs. Again, I appreciate your comments and for watching my video.
Absolutely outstanding work, museum quality! Would love to see a "How To" video, especially on your technique of; painting the deck, rigging, weathering, and brand/name of paints. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you for watching the video and for your comments, I appreciate them. I have had several request for a "How To" video on this model. Honestly, I did not think it would get this much attention. But, like I mentioned at the start of the video, if enough people requested a video on how this model was constructed, I would do one. So I guess I need to get busy! Thank you again for your kind words and for watching the video. I will have a "How To" video on the deck and the overall construction out as quickly as I can. Stay Tuned!
Looking forward to seeing your completed build. I like what you have accomplished so far. I'll be watching the progress. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video. Best wishes!
To everyone that views this video. This is one of the first videos I made on showcasing one of my models. It was difficult to find music that was not in violation of copyright laws. Thus, the music on this video, as several have mentioned, is not the best that it could be. I will eventually remake this video with a better soundtrack. I want to thank everyone for their comments and for watching the video. Best wishes to all!
For those of you that may be interested I am currently publishing a video series on the construction of this model. The videos are in several parts and go in to the details of this build. The final video will be of this same model of the USS Arizona, but with much better music and images. The first video in the series is titled TRUMPETER 1:200 SCALE USS ARIZONA - BB39 Construction Video PART 1 by Models by Monte. I hope you can give the videos a look and see the construction steps taken to build this model kit. Thank you for watching my videos and happy model building all!
I just started building this model, and this is what I hope it will look like in the end. I would love to see how you did things in your build, especially with the anti-mine (?) rigging on the bow. I am also looking into doing the awnings that were on the ship in Pearl as well.
I have videos on the construction of this model in my Models by Monte page. There are several parts covering the construction steps. The paravane rigging is also covered in this series. I think part 3 or maybe 4 covers the paravane rigging. The paravane rigging was a hard subject to find details about but I included what I found in the video. I did see another build that had the awning on the model but I do not remember what builder published it. I'm sure that if you search 1/200 scale USS Arizona you will find it. The rigging is another area that is hard to find good reference material. There are several books out that will help. The one I used was the USS Arizona in 3D if I'm not mistaken. It has very good detail illustrations. Thank you for watching the video and for leaving a comment. Best of luck on your build!
Thank you for your comment. The Arizona in 1/200 scale is an excellent model kit and I hope you enjoy building it. My only down side to the kit is the lack of detailed rigging information. Trumpeter leaves the rigging up to the builder. Best of luck on your USS Arizona model and thanks for the comment and for watching the video. Best wishes!
Those are good questions and the first is easy to answer. The figures are 3D printed from Shapeways.com. You can get them in various scales. The color for the paint is not quite as easy to answer. I actually mixed the paint to get the color I thought was best. I started with a standard gray paint and added a little blue. The color was then a bit too dark so I added a bit of light gray to get the final color. It was really trial and error to be honest. I also used different shades of the color to paint parts to add some variation to the model, I didn't want it to be all exactly the same color. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching the video and for leaving a comment.
I did considerable research on the color of the ship before building. There were some color drawings but the photos are mostly in black and white. But I can say that the blast bags were not black as seen on later battleships. Photos showed the 14" guns without bags, which makes it appear to have black bags due to shadows. However, when the photos clearly showed the guns with blast bags, they appeared to be canvas and a very light color. (At least to the best of my research) I even went back and double checked once I read your comment. I believe that these were a canvas cover and not any type of rubber. Thank you for watching the video and for your comments, I do appreciate them. Best wishes!
Just came across your series of videos on the 1/200 Arizona build and thoroughly enjoyed them. Really superb work - the finished ship is fantastic. I found the series really informative and helpful. I’m embarking on the 1/200 Yamato and although it’s not the same ship I there are a lot of tips and things I need to consider in my planning and execution - especially on sequencing the work and PE. Can you tell me - from start to finish how long it took and roughly, on average, how many hours a week you spent? Cheers
Thank you for your comment! This build took approximately 10 months. I was not able to work on it every day and most of the hours were spent on the weekends. On weekdays, I would work as time available would allow. This, of course, is just an average of time working ON the model. There were some weekends that I was not able to accomplish anything and others that I spent almost all day. If I had to make a guess I would say I would average 10 - 20 hours per week. To be honest, I am really bad at keeping up with the time I spend working on models. That is about the best I can do to answer your question. Thanks again for your comment and for watching the video series. Best wishes!
Thanks for posting your work. I am studying pictures from everyone to get a good feel of how my Missouri will look when completed. There is some impressive work out there with yours included. I have a question as to the weathering though. We were not at war on Dec 6th and our Navy's ships were pretty well maintained. The Arizona in particular was a well loved ship and a jewel of the fleet and so I would think that this baby would look spit shined and ready for the Admiral's inspection. I know it doesn't look as interesting and takes some of the depth away but wouldn't it be more realistic? I can see the Missouri showing a few leagues after being at sea for a bit but not so sure about the Arizona. Please don't get me wrong, I am not knocking your work. In fact, I like it a lot. I am just asking questions before I dive headfirst into my kit.
Although the Arizona did not see battle after December 7th, she was very active pre-war. She made Atlantic crossings and participated in various exercises. I also read that the crew was kept busy maintaining and cleaning her constantly, but salt water takes it toll on even the most maintained vessel. There are photos of the ship that still show signs of weathering, although they are in black and white, so it is difficult to tell a shadow from a rust streak. I was aware of this and did not want to over-do the weathering, just enough to bring out details. As for your model, the choice is up to you if you want to weather the ship or not. I can't say one way is better than the other, especially on a subject like the USS Arizona. In short, its your model and it is up to you to decide what you want to do with it. I like the look of a model that appears to have been in service. That's just me. Even if I built a Zumwalt class destroyer, I would add weathering. Thank you for your comments and for watching my video. I would enjoy seeing what you ultimately come up with in your build. Best wishes!
Great model of the Arizona, the finished model detail and weathering is excellent. Your decks are superb! Have you any other 1/200 ships planned or underway?
No 1/200 scale ships on the bench right now. I do want to try and tackle the USS Missouri or the USS Enterprise sometime in the future. Thanks for the compliment on the painted deck. The aftermarket decks on these kits are getting hard to find not to mention expensive. I wanted to try and pull off a decent looking hand -painted wood deck. It is possible to get a decent looking deck on a budget. I may be doing a video on how I did the deck if there is interest about it. Thank you for your comments and for watching my video. I truly appreciate it! Monte
@@simonf1303 Sounds like I need to put a video up! Check back to my channel within the next month. I will have a "Deck Painting Video" out as soon as I can. Once again I appreciate your comments and support of my channel.
I will make a complete construction video on my build of the Trumpeter USS Arizona as soon as I can. I would guess that it would premier in approximately one month. It takes me a long time to make these videos. I also want to get better photos of the completed model. My backdrop in this video has much to be desired. Thank you for your interest.
That would be an interesting conversion. I believe that the cage mast are available in photo etch for 1/350 scale. It would be a good challenge to build the cage mast from scratch in 1/200 scale, too. That's a great idea! I say give it a go! Thanks for the comments and for watching my video.
Thank you for your comment. The base is simply a wood base purchased from Hobby Lobby with decorative wood details glued on it. The letters are also just glued on. The model sets on decorative wood post, also purchased from Hobby Lobby. These post are attached to the base and the model with screws. The model is not removable from the base. I hope this answer is helpful. Thanks again for watching the video and leaving a comment! Best wishes!
Wow! Your attention to detail is absolutely amazing! I was hoping that no one would notice that error. I actually tried to find a left handed figure but, as you noticed, I was unsuccessful. 😆 Thank you so much for watching the video and for leaving a comment, it is highly appreciated! Best wishes!
Well, your guess is as good as any. I am pretty sure that her AA guns would have definitely been modernized and updated radar eventually. That would be a good subject for a model kit. Build the Arizona as she would have appeared if salvaged and returned to action for some pay back! Great kit bashing project. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment. Very interesting subject to ponder. Best wishes!
Well, to answer your question honestly, I don't know. I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of black and white photos of the ship. I read many articles on the debate of the color of the ship. If you refer to the box art, it seems too light to me. I have seen other models that appear too dark. I have a book on the USS Arizona that has color drawings, actually more computer illustrations to be honest. I decided to match those colors and be happy with it. Is it too light or too dark? I don't know. It simply is the color I chose to represent my model of the USS Arizona. Thanks for watching the video and for your comment, it is appreciated. Best wishes!
Well, first off, thank you for watching and your comments. I'm new at these videos and finding public use music for a video has been a challenge. I would have liked to use the theme from Pearl Harbor or something but there is that copywrite issue. I just picked a couple of free to use recordings so there would be something other than silence. Anyway, if I do more videos, Ill try and do better! I'm learning, wish me luck and thank you once again for watching my video.
@@modelsbymonte2431 sorry I was grumpy at the time. Someone ate the last slice of pumpkin pie. Anyway I do with you would have made step by step videos on your ship models. The weathering is awesome.

Have a great New Year! BTW, I know how you feel, my wife ate the last slice of pumpkin pie! #$%$$#$% ###$@!!!!!
Very interesting comment. I'm curious to know how you determined the correct color. What was your research material? I would like to review that myself. I did spend a lot of time trying to determine a suitable color. I finally found a book that had color illustrations, not photos, and matched that color as best as I could. I may have been a shade too light, but I don't believe I was way off. Again, I would like to know your research material if you don't mind. Changing the color is too late for this model but it would be nice to know for certain. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment. Best wishes!
Yes, I do agree with you 100%. It is hard to find music that is good and not copywrite protected. My original video had great music but was full of copywrite violations so it was changed to what you hear now. Sad, but true. Someone else commented on the music and I responded that I plan on doing a remake with better music if I can find something free to download that is not copywrite protected. Thank you for watching (and bearing through the music) and for your comments!
Hi, I have the radio controlled Trumpeter Arizona and for some reason the motors have stopped working, don't have a clue what the problem is, the motors are sealed in so there is no access to them. Is there anyone out there got any ideas what the problem could be please.

It takes me a long time to make these videos. I also want to get better photos of the completed model. My backdrop in this video has much to be desired. Thank you for your interest.
Would be cool if someone made a conversion to the as-built (1916) version, whether 1/200 or 1/350.
That would be an interesting conversion. I believe that the cage mast are available in photo etch for 1/350 scale. It would be a good challenge to build the cage mast from scratch in 1/200 scale, too. That's a great idea! I say give it a go! Thanks for the comments and for watching my video.
Hi Monte how did you make the base and is the model just sitting on pads
Thank you for your comment. The base is simply a wood base purchased from Hobby Lobby with decorative wood details glued on it. The letters are also just glued on. The model sets on decorative wood post, also purchased from Hobby Lobby. These post are attached to the base and the model with screws. The model is not removable from the base. I hope this answer is helpful. Thanks again for watching the video and leaving a comment! Best wishes!
@@modelsbymonte2431 yes thanks

A few minor errors...the sailor on the fantail shows as right-handed, when in fact a check of the historical shows he was left-handed.
Wow! Your attention to detail is absolutely amazing! I was hoping that no one would notice that error. I actually tried to find a left handed figure but, as you noticed, I was unsuccessful. 😆 Thank you so much for watching the video and for leaving a comment, it is highly appreciated! Best wishes!
I wonder what modernization Arizona would have gotten had she been salvaged? I think she would have looked like her sister, Pennsylvania.
Best wishes!
hello, but isn't the color too light ?
Beautiful work horrible music. Why? Anime music and a WW2 battleship. Aye.
@@hidalgohouse3815 I have a video on RUclips on a Fletcher Destroyer build I did.
I went into the step by step process on weathering. I will send you the link or you can look up Revell Fletcher Class USS Heermann. I get it about the pumpkin pie!
No worries!
Here is the link to the Destroyer video. ruclips.net/video/3cVZxRChDVQ/видео.html. It is actually part III but it covers what I think you are interested in seeing. If you want to see how I did the USS Arizona, just let me know and I'll put a video together for you. The method is the same. (No promises on the music however!)
BTW - Your right! The music could be better! MRS
I was answering another comment on this video and watched it again from start to finish. Your first comment is absolutely spot on, the music is horrible! I have got to do something about that soon. Have a great New Year!
BTW, I know how you feel, my wife ate the last slice of pumpkin pie! #$%$$#$% ###$@!!!!!
Colors are wrong. Waste of time and effort.
Models Great….music sucks
