    I enjoyed watching this. Especially the adding extra details such as vents,l lights, rivets, antenna upgrades. And the windows I need to try a LM again, you’ve inspired me as to what level of finish I might try. Thank you Also I was thinking, if you haven’t reworked the flag yet. I would use something like a paper clip to hold the top edge of the flag straight (there was a horizontal rod holding up the real flag which was made on a foil base not a fabric. Then add more creases to match the Apollo photos.

      Thank you for the comment and for watching the video. I wanted to add as much detail as I could but the photo etch upgrade kit wasn't available, so I had to overcome and improvise. I did a lot of experimenting with different colors and materials. I have revisited the flag and actually did almost as you suggested. I printed out a flag and applied it to aluminum foil and was able to get it looking much better. Thank you again for your comment and for watching the video. Best wishes!

      That would be cool. Let's see, the USS Texas would be approximately 18 foot long at 1/32 scale. That would take up a lot of room. It would be an impressive model. Maybe when I retire. On second thought... No, I'll stick with 1/350 scale. Thanks for the comment!

I have no idea at this time as to how to even attempt a repair as the model would need to be dissembled to assess the wiring panel. I have come to the conclusion that I will no longer light starship models. They look great with all the lights but such a disappointment when they stop working. • @modelsbymonte2431
      @modelsbymonte2431 10 дней назад

      The weathered cab does have character and could present a story about its condition to the viewer. How it got so beat up and abused is up to the imagination of the viewer. It definitely has had some hard miles. But, that cab was the result of a mistake made in the building process as I mentioned in the video. It turned out to be salvageable but required the drastic weathering seen in the video. I plan on making an additional tractor in a rusted and well used condition in the future. David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Thursday, 29 August, 2024) This is so excellent, and at eah point! Had I the opportunity to build this kit, I would have it in a deep water diorama approaching an atoll, in the act of shooting down a replica of a Kawanishi H8K four-engine flying boat, Allied Code Name “Emily”; Hasegawa offers an older kit that in today’s standards might look rather outdated in detailing. However, given the model’s rough circumstances of the setting I envision, no one in all likelhood would notice. I was thinking of having the big sub sending into a Japanese aircraft carrier a full spread of torpedoes. However, I could not figure out how to scratch-build it in 1:72nd-scale-or WHERE 😲 I could place it during construction!

The book is titled "USS ARIZONA IN 3D" if memory serves. The book contains many detail images of areas that are difficult to see in normal photos off the internet. Sorry for the late response! The nose art was made using the Testor Decal Maker Kit. You can find these kits at Hobby Lobby and your local hobby shop. It works with an ink jet printer. Just select your artwork, size it appropriately for the scale and print it on the decal film. The kit comes with a spray to affix your image to the decal film. @@modelsbymonte2431 Hey Monte, I think the best approach is to combine what you do with the audience you want. As a novice modeler myself, I target new modelers and those with some experience as my main focus for my videos. Also, the video only has what I feel a weekend modeler can achieve in a weekend. Yes, it is multi part vid builds which will never get tons of views. But there is an audience for it. If you want more views, you have to limit your videos to 20 minutes or less and have the build from box to finish, then you'll get lots more views. People want to feel like they are part of the process but really don't want to invest hours and hours into it, and they want to be entertained along the way, you master that, and your channel will explode. You're probably asking yourself that if that's such good advice why am I not doing it? Well, that's because you need to post regularly and I have a hard time finishing a build in 4-6 weeks let alone one every 2 weeks, that's more than I have time for and still have a decent product. At least that's my take on it, you know from your own experience what to do, you just have to choose a direction and go with it my friend! Hope this is helpful. Johnny

      Based on what I have learned, it is a 50 / 50 shot at getting an early production kit or a late production. Stores like Hobby Lobby will more than likely have the later production run kit, which means the model would be cast in the old molds. This is the only explanation as to why some builders have no gap issues and others do. Other companies make this kit in 1/48 scale and have a superior casting, but at a higher cost. This is a decent kit if you overlook the fit and gap issues that some of these kits have. If, like you say, patience is short, I would bypass this kit to be on the safe side. I was enjoying the model the other day, watching the lights blink and noticed something wrong. The strobe lights on the end of the nacelles were not flashing. That really made me angry. I started the 1/350 TOS Enterprise and have already started the lighting effects. After I complete this one, I decided that from now on I'm not lighting any more models. Heartbreaking to turn on the switch and the strobes don't flash. There is no wat to access the interior of the model without doing extreme damage. It is now simply a static display. Anyway, best of luck on your build and thanks again for the comment and for watching my video. Best wishes!

      Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. I prefer to paint the decks and I learned that I am not a fan of the prefab aftermarket deck applications. I was asked to build a model of the USS Texas in 1/350 scale. The model and all the aftermarket parts were provided for me by the person requesting the build. This included the aftermarket deck application. I can say now, since dealing with this deck, I do not like the deck applications. Painting the deck, to me, is so much easier than dealing with this aftermarket monster. Of course this is just my opinion. I'm sure that there are those out there that prefer the application over painting. Thank you again for the comment and for watching the video. Best wishes!

    Monte, both great builds! I am in the process of building the dual drive White Freightliner COE. The cab came in two forms short day cab & longer sleeper version. AMT could have made the cab construction a little easier! Also other sleeper lengths were possibly with some work. The tanker trailer is a nice build, but the style in of a Michigan type! Which isn't seen in most of the continental 🇺🇸. Shortened with more axles would have more realistic! But these were the first of the truck model kits! And I agree the chrome tanker must be insane, to build correctly!😵‍💫 Great video, 👍👍👍⛽

    This is absolutely a great video of this build, anyone that can build aircraft models are true artist. I can build and super detail anything but for some reason as much as i love aircraft I cant seem to get it right on planes.

    • @modelsbymonte2431

      Don't feel alone. I struggle as well with armor models. I never had an armor model do well in competition. I have friends that are into doing the "super detailing" of aircraft. They install all the cockpit details, wiring, cables, internal frame work and so much more. Their additions look fantastic! The trouble is, to me, once the fuselage halves are glued together, no one sees it! Only the photos taken during construction prove it is there. I believe in detailing anything that can be seen, opening panels etc. I personally don't see the benefit on super detailing anything that will never be seen. That's just me. Just like this model, most of the cockpit can't be seen in the completed model. I guess we all have our strengths and weaknesses when it comes to models! Thank you for your comment and for watching the video, it is highly appreciated! Best wishes!

    • @modelsbymonte2431
      @modelsbymonte2431 3 месяца назад

      Thank you for the comment and for watching the video. The panel lines make a big difference on this model because of its size. Without some sort of detailing or weathering it would probably be just a lot of gray paint to look at. There are so many ways to accent panel lines. I've seen airbrushing, oil paints, special accent paint, and on and on. Each method works well as I have probably tried them all. But using watercolor and pastel chalk has proved to be the easiest method and most forgiving to me. I still use the other methods depending on the model but try to keep it simple when I can. Thanks again for watching the video and for your comment, Best wishes!

Years past had I built three of the Tamiya 1:48th-scale kit of the De Havilland DH-98 Mosquito RAF Light Bomber/Photo-Reconnaissance Aircraft, one f which I had used a bit of Squadron filler somewhere along the rear left fuselage. If formed a sort of "sinkhole" round the size of a fresh blueberry--not exactly tiny! I had to patch it on the exterior--this time using Testor's putty.

    David R Lentz, USA (edited, updated) You have no idea what a joy (if a wistful one) it is to watch your handiwork develop. (I would have done some things differently; that is the nature of the hobby.) My circumstances deny me the means to do so myself, so I have been finding my enjoyment vicariously, watching build videos such as yours. Several months past, whilst in hospital, people ostensibly acting on my behalf threw away all my possessions, including completed 1:48th-scale models of a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet USN/USMC Attack Fighter and a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18E Super Hornet USN/USMC Attack Fighter (both single-seat versions). My chief substitutions (if memory serves) were Aires’s resin 1:48th-scale replicas of the ACES II Ejection Seat; one had photo-etch seat belts comprising TWELVE PIECES! The ordnance of the F/A-18E kit had decals for all the stenciling. I also had a 1:48th-scale model of a Sikorsky CH-60 Blackhawk U.S. Army Transport Helicopter (if I recall correctly, the Academy kit). I had as yet unfinished two of Hasegawa’s 1:48th-scale kits of the Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor USAF Stealth Air Dominance Fighter. One I was building with the landing gear down and all servicing panels opened. I was endeavouring to incorporate all the wiring, ducting, etc., that one standing there would see. The second I had included in the seat a pilot figure, with the gear up, and all panels closed. I also had as yet un-started Revell’s 1:48th-scale kit of the North American Rockwell B-1B Lancer (BONE) USAF Strategic Bomber. I had hoped they at some future time I would be able to afford the aftermarkets sets to correct, accurise, and detail 1) the exhaust cans, 2) the air intakes, and 3) the fan blades at the very front of the engines. I also had been hoping to find aftermarket replacements for the cockpit, the bomb bays, and the wheel wells. Now, all gone. I tell you all this because I want you to understand the depth of my appreciation for your video-you made a decidedly better job of it than I could have produced!), and to convey to you my delight in watching it. Thank you. Already have I watched your presentation three times, the last pausing frequently.

      I am at a loss for works and it took me some time to collect my thought for this reply. I guess the first thing I wish to convey is my deepest sympathy for the loss of your models. I do not know the reasons why but I simply can't imagine that happening and the blow to your heart that you must have had once you learned what happened to your artwork. The value is priceless on these creations. Just the cost of the kits and the aftermarket additions is a considerable investment. Most do not realize the time and dedication that is put into making these models, they see them as toys and do not understand the value. I'm not saying this is what happened in your case but just an overall perception I get from those that do not understand the hobby. You had a great collection and I do share in your loss. I highly appreciate your comment on my video and appreciate you taking the time to view the content. The goal of the video is to share the construction process and methods I took to overcome the assembly issues. I feel I have achieved that goal by your comments and I certainly appreciate it. I do not know your circumstances but I do pray that you are able to make a full recovery and I wish the very best for you. Once again, I am sorry for the loss of your kits and models. It is unimaginable to me. Best wishes!

      Thank you for the comment and thanks for watching the video. The model has been a great joy to look at after it was completed. However, just recently, I flipped the switch to turn on the lights and the flashing LED's on the end of the nacelles stopped working. This has been a fear of mine ever since I completed the model. What do I do if the lights stop working? It is impossible to access the insides without destroying the model. I don't think I will ever spent the time to light up another starship model. I was working on the 1/350 original (TOS) Enterprise wiring and put it aside for a while. I will finish that model but no more lighting for me.
