The Mount Everest of ship models... conquered! I am guessing you are feeling a strong sense of accomplishment and satisfaction knowing that all of the hours of hard work have paid off in the form of a great model that you can enjoy looking at for years to come. Magnificent build. An epic project finished with stellar results. Yes, rigging on ships and planes is an exercise in tedium. Keep up the great work. Bill
My 1/350 was large, I just can't get over how much bigger 1/200 is, even the small away boat are big enough for a sensible diorama, fantastic build BTW, was you thinking of R/C for this old lady ?

I highly recommend the Midwest Model Shop for excellent videos on building large warships. The current project is the Titanic, but there are complete series on the 1/200 Arizona and 1/200 Missouri. Good tips and tricks as well. Great work - keep it up!
A bit late to the party, but just one word - magnificent! A model that big and that complex deserves all the time and effort you put into it, and it absolutely paid off. Hard to see how it could be improved. Lots of really great tips and techniques , and your painting skills are top notch - the layering of washes to achieve depth and complexity is an Old Masters painting technique - you can 't get the depth any other way. And inspirational too - really makes me want to take up ship modelling again after many, many years - thanks for sharing your epic build!
You can never be too late for one of my parties... LOL! Thanks for watching and it certainly was an epic build... which almost killed me btw. I'm glad you enjoyed it and if you picked up a couple things here and there that makes it totally worth it. Good luck in all your modelling adventures. Re: painting decking and masking off details, always prefer the real wood kits that can be bought for just about any kits. They are easy to prep and go on fairly easy. For me, they offer far better detail (especially on a larger kit), especially after applying a panel line wash. Also, some of those deck details, as too a great many other things, can be cut off, sanded and replaced with after market photoetching kits. Again, the difference in detail is remarkable and adds so much to the finished product.
Hello Dear, every modeller has its own style, some of them paints, some of them makes mask ( horrible, 1/700 scale and all decks) with sticky tape. I like your style and brush painting. great work. best regards...
your model is astonishing! I look up to you whenever I feel the need to take a hammer to my model, given that I only built 2 ships to this day, that emotion can be triggered by a lot of things not just the rigging! Thank you for sharing the project
Thanks I appreciate your comment. These ships are definitely not for the faint of heart. I’m sure it’s the first and only big ship model I’ll ever build. 🙂
Arrgghh !!! Just spotted your vid in my recommendations....It looks truly magnificent BUT it would warrant a complete 10 minute "final reveal" video all of its own, preferably with a camera upgrade. While I've built a few model ships in small 1/700 scale, and a couple in larger 1/350 scale, a 1/200 would be a dream build for me. Even though I don't have an airbrush, or the room to display one. Just having it in the box as a dream kit would be enough for me.
Actually, though I’ve been kit and scratch building models for about 50 years, I find watching you to be enjoyable and informative. You seem, highly adept and your attention to detail is very good indeed. I suppose I could say I enjoy your craftsmanship, and you often keep me company while I build. But those days are dwindling now. I’m sick and losing function in my hands, do detail work is hugely difficult. So, fellow maker, keep on keepin on, as they say. I wish you many more years of success and happiness and, as usual, I’ll be tuning in. BTW, Big ships are my joy, and anyone who makes them has my undivided attention. Congratulations! Great build! Great result! Did you know than Uschi rigging can straight once it is heated? You can glue both ends of rope, and then warm it up with a match, the rope will tighten and will be straight. It can reduce 20-30 per cent of its length.
Absolutely beautiful model you made there! Hood was never in my top 10 shapewise, but your model looks stunning! Perhaps it's the dark grey hull? In any case: superb!
