Cool jazz with a warm feeling, Mr Petry's trumpet has opened my heart and made me think of my one and only love. Thank you brother Bill! 🙏

What a smoky smooth sound. I think that was intentional. Love the song and interpretation. 😌🎼🎶🎺💖 🎹

Fantastic tight formation and a trumpet that is so smooth, of course a microphone to match the performance. I have worked on a project in the Netherlands recording the Dutch trumpetist Eris Vloeimans and know how challenging it is to find the "right" sound as sound-engineer🙃

Having engineered many trumpet recordings myself, I agree it’s challenging, But also being a trumpeter and attended hundreds of performances, I think this might have been miked TOO closely. There are imperfections in the trumpet sound that you would hear only if you had your ear right next to the bell, and trust me when I say few people would want to do that!

@@jonl1034 Producers want a certain sound and of course in collaboration with the musician. The tendency to "close mic" or create a post production "image of close mic" is leaning towards rock and other genres, which is OK , however Miles did not approach the U47 vintage very close, and
it probably was in omni setting to prevent proximity. I have used both condenser omni and Ribbon mics. I think, having studied some instrument sound dissaption diagrams the trumpet needs some space and mic slightly of centre. Even a vintage MD421 sounds great🙃
