Also, to be honest, they were very much on the fence and hesitant about continuing as SHINee after Jonghyun's passing. It was Jonghyun's mother who encouraged them to keep going. (She and his sister still go to both SHINee group and SHINee member solo concerts! SHINee also recently bought matching group rings that they've all been wearing around everywhere, including during their solo activities. They gave Jonghyun's ring to his sister. Aww.) I think the word you were looking for is camp. SHINee is campy and proud of it. 😂
To understand SHINee's "Good Evening" MV what you need to know is that it had only been about 5 months when this MV came out since Jonghyun died, and this song and MV is all about how SHINee and Shawols have been grieving and are finally ready to begin to heal and come out of the darkness into the light. The album is called The Story of Light and it's all about finding the light out of the darkness, etc. It's about how the members are learning to continue on without Jonghyun and find happiness and light in a situation that will forever be difficult. May 25, 2018, when this MV was released, was SHINee's 10th anniversary, so this was also important because it was a comeback to commemorate their 10 years as a group. The choreography for "Good Evening" is very deliberate. The reason the choreography is like that is because it depicts them going through the grieving process and it tells the story of all the emotions they went through and how, now at the end, they have made the choice to continue on as a group and keep on running, etc. The choreography is really complex and beautiful and really fits the song well. It becomes clearer once you see it in its entirety and start to understand the story behind it all. Fun fact: the choreographer for this song was Koharu Sugawara, who was featured in Taemin's "Move" MV, as well as choreographed several of Taemin's other songs, and also collaborated with several other choreographers on Taemin's "Criminal" MV. As you may remember, she is a famous Japanese choreographer who has known Taemin for years, so it was really special she was able to work on this project because she got to be a part of SHINee's healing process. In the MV, not only is the extra shadow that appears when they look into the tunnel/well at the end speculated to be Jonghyun's shadow, but the fox is thought to also represent him. Onew intensely stares into the eyes of the fox, almost as if he is communicating with the fox through his thoughts, and, to me, it's as if he is sharing a moment with Jonghyun. There is a fox in the story "The Little Prince" and "The Little Prince" was one of Jonghyun's favorite stories. Plus, a fox often represents the afterlife and the spirit of someone who has passed on reincarnated in many cultures. Also in the beginning there is an empty chair. An empty chair is often used to represent the spirit of someone who has passed on as well. But that's just a small portion of the hidden messages within this MV. If you really delve in deep you will discover that the whole MV can be connected to SHINee forever being 5 members and them including Jonghyun in all that they do. There are 5 trees at the end, which could represent the fact that, as Onew has said, even though you may only see 4 members on stage, SHINee will forever be a group of 5. They are in a room full of cameras and their images are being projected on the TV screens, which I see as representing the fact that because SHINee is living in the public eye they can never escape from always being watched by the public. Which doesn't allow them the private space to really grieve and to express themselves and they are always being judged (both the members in their grieving process and what Jonghyun had to go through and what ultimately led him to feeling the way he did, etc.) This MV used a lot of green and aqua blue light to depict the cool and somber feel of the story, but it also was used because pearl aqua blue/green is SHINee's fan color and it was used to represent Jonghyun's presence all around them and the support and solidarity they felt with Shawols. The story in the MV is showing the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) the members went through and how they have now at the end of the MV started to find their way out of it and have made the choice to continue to keep on running and continue on as a group, etc. But I could go on and on ... every part of this MV has a deeper message and meaning, you just have to open yourself up to the fact that everything in this MV has multiple meanings and purposes. We see Minho with those oranges, which is really just a giant pile of orange peels, because this part is supposed to depict how he is blindly just going through life, not even able to process what is happening around him. He is not even looking at the peels. It is like his body and mind is on autopilot. If you notice, none of the members ever make eye contact with the camera the entire MV and even in their live performances of the song, you will never see them look at the camera. This was done deliberately as well because they wanted to show how in their grief they were blind to everything that was going on around them and they were closed off to the world and didn't care what was happening outside of themselves even though the world was watching their every move. The part where Key smashes the piano is only one example of of how SHINee shows how they felt for a while after Jonghyun died -- they were angry at everything, including music, and in a way they were blaming "music" and their careers for what happened, and in the MV they were taking their anger out on the piano, etc. The plastic sheet and them flailing under water is supposed to represent how they felt suffocated in their grief and how grieving while in the public eye made them feel trapped at times, etc. Every scene, every image, every movement in their dance, every look, every moment they stand still or look blankly, etc. is very deliberate and is there for a reason. This comeback is part of a three part release celebrating SHINee's 10th anniversary. So they released 3 mini albums with 5 songs each in their The Story of Light trilogy and they had 3 comebacks each 2 weeks apart to showcase their lead track on each of their albums. "Good Evening" and "All Day All Night" were their comeback tracks from Episode 1, " I Want You" and "Who Waits for Love" were their comebacks from Episode 2 and Episode 3 was "Our Page" and "Tonight". Their comeback lasted 6 weeks to represent the fact that it was SHINee's 6th "full length" album. At the end of the six weeks they released a special final MV to celebrate their anniversary and all they have been through over the past 10 years with their song "Countless." "Countless" was an epilogue track that was added to their repackaged Story of Light album. FYI: If you haven't already, make sure when you watch "Our Page" that you also pair the MV with the official lyric video. Every word of "Our Page" was wrote by the members and it's all about Jonghyun. If you know what the lyrics are about it will help you to understand the story being told in the MV. (It would be helpful to understand the lyrics first BEFORE watching the MV.) The official lyric video is posted on SM's !t Live channel, ruclips.net/video/Ij0fwQtU3Kc/видео.html. Before this comeback SHINee had just come off their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) world tour and the members were doing solo activities as they worked on what was going to be an epic 10th anniversary comeback. With Jonghyun's passing, that set them back a few months because they were grieving. It also took time to figure out how they were supposed to function without Jonghyun. But SHINee never really stopped working. Two months after Jonghyun died, SHINee held their SHINee World -- The Best from Now On Concert in Japan and they pretty much were working nonstop until Onew, Key and Minho's enlistment. That concert had originally been planned as part of their 10th anniversary celebration and it had already been sold out. So SHINee felt obligated to honor their fans and continue the concert despite everything, which meant some extra work, because they already had been planning everything with Jonghyun. So they had to quickly go back to the drawing board and figure out how to do it with only 4 members and still honor Jonghyun's memory. In SHINee's fan meeting/concert for their 10th anniversary the members all vowed that SHINee will always be 5 and that Jonghyun will always be involved in everything they do. I think we are always going to have reminders of him in all that SHINee does from now on, and that is the way it should be. He was loved and will never be forgotten, and when possible, should always be involved in things that have to do with SHINee. OT5 forever and ever. I think we can feel Jonghyun's presence and influence in this album and songs because a lot of what made SHINee's sound uniquely SHINee (and this album is no exception) was because of Jonghyun. He not only shaped SHINee's sound because he was the main vocal of the group, but he also wrote and composed around 40% of SHINee's songs, so he can be felt in everything they do. It wouldn't be SHINee if we didn't hear his influence shine through in their music, that is what makes SHINee's sound so unlike any other. And, because of that, I think from now on we will always be searching for the hidden messages and moments that represent Jonghyun in everything SHINee does. For example, SHINee almost always leaves a space open in the middle of their choreographies where Jonghyun would be, and even in their new performances they leave room for him in their dances.
Yes! I was waiting for more reactions to SHINee, Shawols are one of the calmest and most respectful fandoms in Kpop, we basically live waiting for a comeback from the group xD and following the boys in their solo careers, but we are always here 😊
In fact, the boys went through a dark period of indecision post 2017, whether they should continue, whether they should do the shows and even whether it was right for them to release an album. Taemin said in an interview at the time, that they were afraid that the group could fall apart, and that if they didn't move forward, they would have to disband, and none of them truly wanted that, so they put the pieces together and decided to continue, but not just for them, for Jonghyun too. That's why they have my admiration, they drew strength from places they didn't imagine to keep SHINee and Jonghyun's legacy standing.
As you may know, "Atlantis" -- which is the title track from SHINee's repackaged Atlantis album that came out in 2021 and is a partner album to their Don't Call Me album -- is a mythical city that is part of a story within Greek mythology, referring to the Lost City of Atlantis. The story of Atlantis is most often depicted as a utopian society on an island that became submerged and lost in the middle of the ocean. SHINee's MV is referencing to the lost city of Atlantis, so it's supposed to look like they are visiting Atlantis at the bottom of the sea. The whole MV is a reference to the story of Atlantis, which is why you see them selling seafood and why they are underwater, etc. Yes, all the members of SHINee have amazing high note abilities. I'm not even exaggerating. SHINee are known as vocal kings for a reason. That is what makes SHINee so outstanding and why they are so highly respected in the industry. They are idols of idols and legends even among legends for a reason. Onew, SHINee's leader -- the smiley one with the brown cardigan sweater -- is the one with the high note that was shocking you. He is actually known as one the best male vocalists that all other idols covet a chance to get to sing with. And if you are impressed with that 8 second high note, just wait until you see his cover performance of "Friend" way back at the beginning of his career. He actually holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch at 40+ seconds. Key is the one with the teal patchwork jacket and the purple sparkly top, Minho is the one with the tiger striped sweater and Taemin is the one with the red leather jacket. How I interpret the MV, the convenience store is a cover for the fact that it sits on top of a portal to the city of Atlantis. To the average person, the store just looks like a regular store, but if you are in on the secret, you know that if you head to the storage room or basement, etc. you will find a magical elevator/submarine that will take you to "Atlantis." I think that move in the choreography where Key and Minho make the circle is them gathering all their power and love and they are blasting it all to the fans (Shawols) or they are sending all their love to the girl who they are singing about in the song, etc. like a superhero who is summoning all their powers. The SHINee members are supposed to have power as the keepers of the portal to "Atlantis," etc. Plus, if I had to guess, it also might be something linking SHINee to SM's SM Culture Universe. Most of SM's groups' storylines are connected in some way and they are all part of one big story. For example, I think the soda can we see appear in Key's hand in "Atlantis" is connected to the soda can we see in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV. (However, I'm not yet sure whether the can magically pops into his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ..." or if it appears in "Hate That ..." because Key brought it from "Atlantis." ) Because Minho writes all his own rap sections in SHINee's songs, they are all very meaningful, and are strategically placed in the song for a reason. If you pay attention to his lyrics you will see they have a lot of deep meaning and they enhance the story and add more depth to the song. For example, the long sss sound you hear at the end of his rap lines in "Atlantis" are supposed to mimic the sound of waves as they crash on shore or against the rocks, etc. Minho is actually quite poetic when it comes to his songwriting. You should check out the behind the scenes MV shoot for "Atlantis", ruclips.net/video/jn6qkSNro9A/видео.html, to really see how detailed everything in the MV was. Fun fact: Although all the aqua blue you see in this MV is supposed to represent water and the city of Atlantis, because SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua, all the aqua, blue and green colors you see in the MV also represent SHINee as a group and their connection to their fans.
SHINee's "Dream Girl" was part of their Misconceptions of You album, which came out in 2013. The song is called "Dream Girl" so the whole MV is a dream sequence. That is why all the sets look like the rooms have been turned upside down and sideways. For example, in the room with the green walls, it looks like the room has been tipped on its side and they are dancing on the walls with the wooden floor behind them. The whole MV has a funhouse, crazy atmosphere because it's all happening within a dream. That's why we see the video glitches and why they are jumping and falling from the ceilings and walls and why we see Onew roll down the wall, and the members climb in and out of the windows, etc. Their outfits are mismatched patterns and styles -- and Taemin's pants look like two No. 2 pencils (pink eraser, green metal band and yellow pencil) -- because it's a dream and not everything has to make sense in a dream. (This was another of SHINee's very iconic looks, and it's one of the things that makes SHINee, SHINee.) Fun fact: We can't see the girl's face because she is a "dream girl." It doesn't matter what she looks like because Shawols are SHINee's dream girls. (Shawols are supposed to imagine ourselves as the "dream girl" SHINee is talking about.) So, the girl represents all their fans. And the fact that her face is covered with flowers represents how their dream girl is as beautiful as flowers, etc. That is why all the scenes are the way they are because anything can happen in a dream. This song and MV is one of the dozens of reasons why SHINee won artist of the year in 2013 at the Melon Music Awards, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the Kpop industry. For example, this was the same year that they had comebacks with "Everybody," "Why So Serious?" and "Colorful," among many other accomplishments. Seriously, SHINee's 2013 Misconceptions of You, Misconceptions of Me and Misconceptions of Us trilogy of albums have some of their most iconic songs to perform live. But to be fair, all of SHINee's songs performed live are pretty iconic. Taemin is now 19 in the "Dream Girl" MV. Onew is 23, Jonghyun is 22 and Key and Minho are 21. Rolling on the ground/rolling up the wall, etc. is short of Onew's signature go to comedic move. You will often see him doing log rolls and somersaults when he is trying to be funny. Like when we see him roll down the stairs during their live "Like A Fire" performance at their SHINee World Concert III in Seoul. However, Onew is also known for being super clumsy and he often trips over his own feet and falls, etc. It's such a common occurrence that the other members and fans have nicknamed it "Onew condition." You definitely need to check out their dance practice video for "Dream Girl," ruclips.net/video/EsfiOO4AVdg/видео.html, as well as a live performance. And of course, like everything SHINee does, it's always 1000% better live. Just wait until you see their mic stand choreography in concert. Their MVs don't even begin to do their songs justice. When it comes to SHINee, you ALWAYS need to see and hear their songs live to fully appreciate them. The song will have a completely different vibe and be even more epic live no matter what they do. That is why it's an undisputed fact that SHINee are the KINGS of live performances. Everyone in the Kpop industry wishes they could perform live the way SHINee does. The mic stand choreography is legendary and, like SHINee, it was so unique for its time and unlike anything anyone had done up until then. Just another example of what makes SHINee pure greatness and why they are considered one of the best when it comes to their vocals and dancing. :D There is even a famous moment in one of their MCountdown comeback stages for "Dream Girl" where Minho's mic stand breaks in the middle of the dance and the way they all improvised and kept on dancing just shows how skilled and professional they are. Check out an episode of the variety show Beatles Code 2 where they talk about it. I love this episode of the show because it has so many iconic SHINee moments. I think you will enjoy watching it. Part 1: ruclips.net/video/8RmY4_kFDes/видео.html and Part 2: ruclips.net/video/vdhyeOz9Yj8/видео.html (Just so you know, the other guests on the show are members of the iconic first-generation boy group G.O.D. under JYP Entertainment, who debuted in 1999. And Shindong, one of the members of Super Junior, is one of the hosts of the show. The concept of this variety show is The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" theme. So that is why the hosts are dressed the way they are, they are supposed to look like the members of The Beatles.) SHINee's mic stands have been specially made to be lighter and stronger than a regular mic stand, and if you watch the show I suggested above, you will get to see them up close, etc. However, the SHINee members still had to train a lot with them to be able to pull off this impressive choreography.
good evening was the first mv released after jjong and it has too many meanings, like: they are in a glass house and all the cameras pointing at them representing how they felt at that moment, all eyes were on shinee and on what they would do next. a lot of people used to say they were "using" the story of jjong to promote themselves and Key went mad, wrote a whole post on insta and mentioned it during a show because he was sick of it and sick of how cruel people could be. the fox in the video is supposed to represent jonghyun, the drowning scenes, eh shadow of a person inside the well they are looking. this album is literally my favorite one because you can feel EVERYTHING they were trying to say shinee is also the first group ever to have all the members to have a solo album of their own. there's a video of onew singing dream girl all by himself, it's from this year. it's incredibly challenging and it's amazing to see how he does it, maybe you'll be interested in watch that
You guys need to check out their ballads and live performances, that's when SHINee's vocal magic really shows! SHINee live and their Bsides are the best part of SHINee!
Good Evening is the first of a trilogy to deal with Jonghyuns passing (the story of light albums). You should listen to „Good Evening“, „I want you“ and brace yourself for „Our Page“ (see to get a video with subs or have the translation at hand) You could go on with the Epilog of TSOL „Countless“ to get the mood up again (so make it 4 vids in one reaction) I think there are no very up to date guides out there. The deep dive is one of the best, but it is longer than an hour. Given SHINee just had their 16th anniversary it makes sense tho. Will you also react to their individual carees? I mean Taemin sets some standards out there. (Move, Guilty, Advice, Want) Jonghyun is a great soloist as well. Also sosososo creative in his songwriting. (She is, Déjà-Boo, Lonely feat. Taeyeon, Shinin) You should try to listen to Keys English solos (all b-sides like Imagine and Helium, Another Life has a MV at least) Otherwise try Gasoline, Bad Love and Killer) Also THE voice Onew. Listen to his healing voice and forget every worry you ever had (Dice, Circle, Blue) Or Listen to Minho smooth Voice with Chase, I‘m Home or Heartbreak.
Good Evening was and is so important for us Shawols, first MV and first comeback after Jonghyun's passing and the fact they showed he's still there for them in the whole MV 😭❤️🩹
Thanks for the shinee reaction!! They are all coming out with solo works soon! Taemin’s release is today, onew is in early September, key and Minho are later in the year!!
Shinee é um grupo tão incrível! Lembro de quando chorava todas as vezes que via o mv de Good Evening, tem tantas referências ao nosso Jonghyun nessa era 😢
It's not a cover, because they own the rights to the song, it's just a sample, which is very common in the music world, but the lyrics are totally different
Shawols are the hidden fandom, we're normally very quiet, so you don't notice us, but we're EVERYWHERE and will pop up where you least expect it.
That's so cool, and for sure, they really are everywhere🩷🧡💛
Also, to be honest, they were very much on the fence and hesitant about continuing as SHINee after Jonghyun's passing. It was Jonghyun's mother who encouraged them to keep going. Thank you for the reaction. Love SHINee. My top K-pop group.
Im almost cried omg - Dream girl got me into shinee
We are so glad you are appreciating and looking forward to our content. It means a lot!
They sell out Tokyo Dome (50k people) no problem - yeah, the fandom's still strong. :)

Good evening was the first MV released after losing Jjong and is part 1 of a trilogy dealing with his lose and how they're dealing with it.
To the average person, the store just looks like a regular store, but if you are in on the secret, you know that if you head to the storage room or basement, etc. you will find a magical elevator/submarine that will take you to "Atlantis."
I think that move in the choreography where Key and Minho make the circle is them gathering all their power and love and they are blasting it all to the fans (Shawols) or they are sending all their love to the girl who they are singing about in the song, etc. like a superhero who is summoning all their powers.
(However, I'm not yet sure whether the can magically pops into his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ..." or if it appears in "Hate That ..." because Key brought it from "Atlantis." )
Because Minho writes all his own rap sections in SHINee's songs, they are all very meaningful, and are strategically placed in the song for a reason.
You should check out the behind the scenes MV shoot for "Atlantis",
ruclips.net/video/jn6qkSNro9A/видео.html, to really see how detailed everything in the MV was.
Fun fact: Although all the aqua blue you see in this MV is supposed to represent water and the city of Atlantis, because SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua, all the aqua, blue and green colors you see in the MV also represent SHINee as a group and their connection to their fans.
you saying this is very SHINee after Atlantis just makes me smileee hehehehe
I feel like because us Shawols are all just aged now so there may not seem to be a lot of us, but we are here in the shadows 😂😂
(This was another of SHINee's very iconic looks, and it's one of the things that makes SHINee, SHINee.)
Fun fact: We can't see the girl's face because she is a "dream girl." It doesn't matter what she looks like because Shawols are SHINee's dream girls.
It's such a common occurrence that the other members and fans have nicknamed it "Onew condition."
You definitely need to check out their dance practice video for "Dream Girl," ruclips.net/video/EsfiOO4AVdg/видео.html, as well as a live performance.
There is even a famous moment in one of their MCountdown comeback stages for "Dream Girl" where Minho's mic stand breaks in the middle of the dance and the way they all improvised and kept on dancing just shows how skilled and professional they are. So that is why the hosts are dressed the way they are, they are supposed to look like the members of The Beatles.)
SHINee's mic stands have been specially made to be lighter and stronger than a regular mic stand, and if you watch the show I suggested above, you will get to see them up close, etc. However, the SHINee members still had to train a lot with them to be able to pull off this impressive choreography.
good evening was the first mv released after jjong and it has too many meanings, like: they are in a glass house and all the cameras pointing at them representing how they felt at that moment, all eyes were on shinee and on what they would do next. a lot of people used to say they were "using" the story of jjong to promote themselves and Key went mad, wrote a whole post on insta and mentioned it during a show because he was sick of it and sick of how cruel people could be.
the fox in the video is supposed to represent jonghyun, the drowning scenes, eh shadow of a person inside the well they are looking.
this album is literally my favorite one because you can feel EVERYTHING they were trying to say
shinee is also the first group ever to have all the members to have a solo album of their own.
there's a video of onew singing dream girl all by himself, it's from this year. it's incredibly challenging and it's amazing to see how he does it, maybe you'll be interested in watch that
It's really nice to see how much you're having fun reacting to SHINee
SHINee got me into kpop they are still my favourite . Happy to see the reaction video I enjoyed it a lot, hoping for more SHINee content ❤
thank you again, for SHINEEE
You guys need to check out their ballads and live performances, that's when SHINee's vocal magic really shows! SHINee live and their Bsides are the best part of SHINee!
👍👍Awesome performance. 🖖❤
Definitely a lot of us shawols out here for our 5 princes
Just like everything SHINee, their live performances of their songs are so much better. Like the Atlantis version from Music Bank is so good!
No one does it like SHINee!!
Good Evening is the first of a trilogy to deal with Jonghyuns passing (the story of light albums). You should listen to „Good Evening“, „I want you“ and brace yourself for „Our Page“ (see to get a video with subs or have the translation at hand)
You could go on with the Epilog of TSOL „Countless“ to get the mood up again (so make it 4 vids in one reaction)
I think there are no very up to date guides out there. The deep dive is one of the best, but it is longer than an hour. Given SHINee just had their 16th anniversary it makes sense tho.
Will you also react to their individual carees?
I mean Taemin sets some standards out there. (Move, Guilty, Advice, Want)
Jonghyun is a great soloist as well. Also sosososo creative in his songwriting. (She is, Déjà-Boo, Lonely feat. Taeyeon, Shinin)
You should try to listen to Keys English solos (all b-sides like Imagine and Helium, Another Life has a MV at least) Otherwise try Gasoline, Bad Love and Killer)
Also THE voice Onew. Listen to his healing voice and forget every worry you ever had (Dice, Circle, Blue)
Or Listen to Minho smooth Voice with Chase, I‘m Home or Heartbreak.
Lembro de quando chorava todas as vezes que via o mv de Good Evening, tem tantas referências ao nosso Jonghyun nessa era 😢
when can we get your reaction to Shinee members’ solo works?😂😂😂 Can’t wait your deep dive series for Taemin, Key, Onew especially.
welcome to the fandom 💙
Shinee ❤
Can’t wait to check it out❤
SHINee 💎💎💎💎💎
Next ZEROBASEONE pliss
Good evening was a cover of an English song
It's not a cover, because they own the rights to the song, it's just a sample, which is very common in the music world, but the lyrics are totally different
