I laughed when u were confused when irene rapping thought she was yeri and then comes joy rapping as well 😂😂😂
I was lost, not gonna lie! I thought for sure Irene was yeri....them I was wrong
Wendy one of the best singers in kpop and Red Velvet THE best vocal group in kpop since 2014!!! With Mamoo coming in a very close second😀😀😀😜
Sorry, Mamamoo is Wendy times two (Solar & Wheein) plus Seulgi (Hwasa) plus the incomparable pen & flow of Moonbyul. They come out ahead, in my estimation.
So glad you’re diving into Red Velvet!! Red Velvet’s discography is flawless.
What songs are your favorite?
@@BexaReactsWell i’m a R&B Red Velvet enthusiast so my favorites are from their Velvet side. Some of my favorite tracks are Underwater, Time Slip, Be Natural, Automatic, Kingdom Come, Somethin Kinda Crazy and Little Little. But if we’re talking their Red tracks my favorites are Day 1, Feel My Rhythm, Lucky Girl, Cosmic, Dumb Dumb, and Zoom. I’m not even a stan but I can vouch that RV has one of the best discographies in kpop.
Red Velvet has to be one of the most artistic groups ever, the concepts their creative team and them come up with are literally unmatched.
When you don't know Wendy so you ask "why does she make it look so easy" and luvies be like, it's cause she's Wendy.
You want to see "easy and effortlessly" then watch the video of their live performance of Hit That Drum. Her high 12 second notes so make your jaw drop
When you say you like when they sing together , you watch the right group, cuz they always sing the chorus together that make RV was one of the best GG in vocal harmonize
If you want to see Wendy go off, check out her cover of "I Have Nothing" during her appearance on the Lee Mujin Service show. The entire episode is worth a watch, but that cover is amazing.
And also her cover of Everybody Hurts Sometimes on Begin Again
Hands-down, the best killing voice to date and probably for the future to come for quite a while. They are not only known for their vocal abilities, but also known for their visuals. With Irene, the original visual , the oldest still outshine the younger generation beauties. Concepts are outrageous and the Choreo are iconic and amazing. The 200+ songs in the discography are flawless. Suggest you check out the music videos for Psycho and Peek-A-Boo since you’ve already heard the songs. Check out the latest Cosmic, Chill Kill and Feel My Rhythm also. Their performance videos for the songs are just as good as the Music Videos.
26:29 And that's why they're called Red Velvet ! Red for the pop, upbeat songs and Velvet for the r&b, vibey songs. They also have songs inbetween or a perfect mix of both (hence Red Velvet).
You could dedicate months to react all of their songs. At last count they have over 100 songs released and it doesn’t look like they’re stopping anytime soon.
Wendy and John Legend did a collaboration “Written in the Stars” in english that is absolute gold.
💖💛💙💚💜
Oh man, thats a whole lot of songs!!
OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! AS THE BIGGEST REVELUV IN THE WORLD!!!! I know I have talked to you about them before hehehehe What a great way to get started with Red Velvet!!!!
INCREDIBLE, RIGHT????? OK. So. Red Velvet.... is legendary. I think you will do great navigating through things. One of my own personal favorite mini albums is the RBB mini album (the MV has somewhat of a campy Halloween feel to it). They have a lot of mini albums, but only just released their 3rd full album with Chill Kill after early on having had one soon after their debut (debut 2014 although Yeri joined in 2015, and the full album was in 2015 - The Red), one in 2017 (The Velvet), and then 2023 with Chill Kill.
Something you really picked up on naturally was their kind of two-sides - the Red (bright, poppy, some funk, more quirky and experimental) and the Velvet (mature, darker, R&B influence gets heavier) - so you mentioned things feeling darker when the moved into a Velvet portion of their Killing Voice and then noted the R&B vibes so you are right on the money! After a certain point in their discography the two sides become less clearly divided, but fans will still categorize the songs like oh this was a "red" title track, oh that was a "velvet" bside etc., when mostly things are more a mixture or just kind of lean one way more than the other - there are still songs throughout that feel solidly RED or VELVET hehe
Their discography is really SO SOLID, they've received so much well deserved praise! They don't participate in Red Velvet's song writing much, there are some rap verses that I know received contribution especially from Yeri (who also has written her own solo songs), and Seulgi wrote the lyrics for one of the songs on her solo album. Wendy and Yeri have also written lyrics for a collab project - but I will say that when you watch their recording behind process, you can see that all of them take a very proactive role in recording their parts, and especially Wendy is something of a leader often when it comes to recording first (usually) and helping hammer out some final stylistic choices, along with the other members. Their performance of the songs that are written for them really creates a new art that is only possible with their 5 unique talents, vocal notes, and nuances. When they come together, it's truly magical - as you have seen!!! Joy is also someone who is very proactive as we have seen in production behind as well as for promotion and communicating with fans. The members have been able to express themselves more and have more control over time (as is often the case w/ kpop idols who don't start out as something of a self-production unit).
ANYWAY! Also, members have done acting, especially Joy and Yeri more, as well as Joy being an MC of a regular show, Wendy was a DJ for quite a while until last year when Red Velvet's tour was going on and then closing the tour she went into her first stage musical! Joy has done a solo project (which is not reallly her solo debut because it's a cover album, but it's still an album of all Joy vocals - I believe she still intends to have a solo debut that is properly her own, hence the distinction), Seulgi has a solo mini and Wendy now has two solo mini albums. Seulgi and Irene have their subunit, which has a couple of music videos and just some incredible b-sides. (Naughty - one of the MVs - has one of the most legendary choreography of all time, IMO!) There continues to be talk of an Irene solo debut, I hope that will happen soon, and Yeri has made some songs as I said but not had a proper solo debut either. One really fu and cute collab I love from Yeri is a song called Nap Fairy with Sam Kim - the MV is ADORABLE - her vocal tone is so charming. I'm so happy with all of the Irene and Yeri vocal appreciation and love that you recognized their skills as well.
Anyway! I wrote a novel! You can't go wrong with Red Velvet, just remember that Red Velvet doesn't ever do the same concept, and that the MV's are always a bit of a ride hahahaha :D
P.S. - one more thing, I feel like is important to know even though it's quite upsetting to talk about - there was a tragic accident at the end of 2019 at SBS Gayo Daejon rehearsal. The venue had not prepared the stairs where she was supposed to go and it was dark and not lit properly to show her that it was unsafe conditions, she fell something like 10ft without any preparation and suffered several injuries and fractures, including to her face. She had to spend basically a year in recovery, which was extremely difficult. She returned for the first time to sing with Red Velvet in August, 2020 - with a seated live performance video. While Wendy had her solo debut mini with Like Water in April 2021, it wasn't until August of 2021 that Red Velvet released their first OT5 comeback since Psycho (Dec 2019). So Red Velvet's discography has a bit of a hiatus there, as well as their momentum taking a hit what with Psycho having been such a huge song for them. I actually had just become a massive Red Velvet fan in early 2020 without knowing anything about Wendy's accident, and I knew Wendy was my bias so I decided to google about her and her accident was the first thing I saw. I remember wondering if she would even be able to return to doing kpop because although we knew she was going to recover... the extent of her injuries made me wonder if she would be capable of returning to the kind of rigor that being an idol demanded from all directions, like doing choreo if she had any chronic pain or limitations from some of the injuries, etc. Somehow Wendy came back stronger and has only continued to grow, she is amazing.
BUT I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW! haha Before you run into that information somewhere unawares.
One of my favorite Killing Voices alongside WINNER and BTOB. I love when artists truly enjoy singing their music. You can see how much they enjoy it and having fun. It’s not just their jobs, they genuinely love what they are doing. Those are the kind of artists that resonated with me and who in my opinion have the power of longevity in music/entertainment business.
Red Velvet and WINNER just celebrated their 10 year anniversary and BTOB celebrated their 12th anniversary. We love that for them and they still have the passion and enjoyment. ❤️
Is that Wendy? 😂😂😂😂
How did you know? 😂😂😂
Her vocals are everything and then some!
Thanks for reacting!
so glad you are checking them out, super excited for this!!
(also, i'm commenting as i watch so i'm sorry if the comment is too long lol)
2:45 from left to right: wendy (main vocalist), seulgi (main dancer, lead vocalist), irene (leader, vocalist, rapper, visual), yeri (vocalist, rapper, maknae) and joy (vocalist, sub rapper)
- red velvet actually debuted as 4 members and yeri was later added to the group on their first comeback ice cream cake!! she was too young to debut before, i believe
- they are known for their harmonies and vocal layering
11:00 : same!!!! lol that part always gives me chills
18:36 : that's actually their trademark, they do it in pretty much all of their songs!! big reason why their songs are so unique in my eyes
21:11 : their concept is divided into red (more poppy, bubbly, cheerfull) and velvet (90's inspired r&b, darker, more mature)
22:40 : lol the disbelief
- red velvet is known for having creepy or just weird mv's in general (there are exceptions of course), they are always killing people or each other for some reason lol. they are also super chaotic and have an insane bond with one another
i would like to recommend peek-a-boo, birthday, russian roulet, chill kill and second the bad boy recommendation you got :)
side note/ suggestion/request?? lol: the euchae star diary episodes with seulgi and yeri (for chill kill promotions) and wendy (as a soloist) were so cute!! it would be great if you could check them out later in your rv journey :)
Ohhh I really appreciate this comment!!
Thanks for putting names to faces and giving me a little insight!
I’ll definitely write down your recs! ❤
Excellent comment. :)
This Killing voice is one of my favorites. The ladies Killed it. This is a perfect way to get a flavor of their music. I had listened to their most popular songs and loved them but never dived into their B-sides until I heard this Killing Voice. I'm hooked. I've listened to every album and have bought a few and now they are my 2nd favorite girl group. It looks like you really enjoyed most of these songs and its most definitely worth a deep dive into RV..
Very happy you checked this and liked it. If you love harmonies, Red Velvet does it the best and the most.
You will not regret diving deep ☺️
Best vocals and discography in Kpop.
Argue with the wall.
Red Velvet !!! Their vocals are top-notch !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Birthday" is quintessential Red Velvet
Yay!! You should react to the Red Velvet 2024 guide next!
Wendy 💙 Feb 21 94 Main Vocal
Seulgi 💛 Feb 10 94 Main Dancer Lead Vocal
Irene 🩷 Mar 29 91 Main Rapper Lead Dancer Leader
Yeri 💜 Mar 5 99 Rapper Vocal Maknae
Joy 💚 Sep 3 96 Lead Rapper Vocal
I'm going to recommend listening to Feel My Rhythm and their Japanese track Wildside at the same time because they were released a week apart
Ohhh thank you! ❤
YES! This is a great suggestion, I'll also recommend the Feel My Rhythm Performance Video as it is soooo beautiful
can’t wait for more red velvet!💕💕
The one with best vocal tone cutest smile is literally named JOY the tallest one in jeans with two pigtails, she is named to having voice of national treasure
Please react to their newest song: Cosmic.
I ALWAYS suggest starting with Debuts. the older 4 of the 5 members debuted with 'Happiness' (August 1st, 2014).
It was 8-and-a-half months later when Yeri joined the older members; they had a 'psuedo-re-debut' with 'Ice Cream Cake' (March 17th, 2015) just a few days after Yeri turned 16 years old (and she was still going to school).
When this happened, Yeri caught ALL SORTS OF HELL from FULL-GROWN ADULTS (go figure; the goddamned trolls and bullies of Korea never fail to spend their lives on the Hate Train) who called her all sorts of nasty names ('gold-digger', 'mooch' and 'clout-chaser' among other even more disgusting things) simply for joining an already-established group (although they were clearly still a rookie group)!
SM AGAIN COMPLETELY FAILED to defend their employee; they were utterly silent on the matter, not giving a single FFFF about tossing a snowball into Hell. Irene protected Yeri like an angry Momma Bear protecting her cub; she basically told everybody to treat the group's previous stuff as their 'Pre-Debut' material, so they were finally complete as the 5-member group they were always meant to be. People did shut up, too. SM never said one word, one way or the other.
Red Velvet !!! Their voices are fantastic !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
my girlll seulgiii, seulgi and irene my bias
From left to right:
Wendy-Seulgi-Irene-Yeri-Joy
You said these two and the other side flex their vocal. U right coz Wendy is Main Vocal, Seulgi is Lead Vocal, and Joy is Sub Vocal.
Meanwhile, Irene is Main Rapper and Yeri is Lead Rapper (Joy is Sub Rapper). But, sometimes Wendy do the rap too..
Anyways, Irene also Visual (Face of the grup), centre, and Lead Dancer. She is the oldest one on this group (They said Irene is their Mother 😂). Yeri is Maknae and Seulgi is Main Dancer.
So excited to see you react to more!! I’d say Psycho, Bad Boy Russian Roulette are some classic just watch MVs from them.
- the CRAZY Vocalist on the far left is Wendy, she’s obviously insane and easily one of the best vocalists in kpop, hands down. She’s also a phenomenal performer, she’s so much fun to watch on stage.
- Seulgi is to the right of Wendy, she’s the lead vocalist and also the main dancer. Her stage presence is also incredible, she’s done a lot of collabs with other idols. She’s also an incredible vocalist on her own, she could easily be a main vocalist in a lot of other groups.
- Irene is the one in the center, she’s the main rapper and lead dancer! Her husky voice is amazing and her gaze is crazy on stage. She’s also the group’s leader, center and the visual, she’s super super popular in Korea especially
- Yeri is to the right of Irene here! She’s functionally the lead rapper after Irene and also a vocalist and the maknae. She joined the group after their debut with the song Ice Cream Cake. She’s definitely the variety master of the group, she’s insanely funny and so good on camera. And I love how versatile her stage presence is. She does a lot of background harmonies in their songs, especially lower harmonies.
- Joy is on the far right here! Her technical position is Vocalist but she largely functions as an additional Lead Vocalist. She’s also technically the lead rapper, she raps a lot in their earlier songs, but she sings the majority of the time. Her sweet voice is so distinctive and noticeable, it really stands out in RV’s songs. She actually played a huge part in creative direction for the group’s most recent comeback
Seulgi, Wendy and Joy all have solo mini albums(Wendy has two), I highly recommend reacting to those, Irene’s solo is set to happen later this year and Yeri doesn’t have an official solo mini album but she did write a song for herself called Dear Diary that has a music video.
Red Velvet are my all time favorite group and their discography is known for being on of THE best in kpop. I highly recommend diving into the b-sides as well, they are truly incredible.
they have the best discography in the kpop industry in my opinion
By far this is the longest killing voice episode, but they recorded longer than this but some song have been edited out. Seulgi even said if do they need to do a part 2. And i think they need to because they still have many songs to offer, thats how great their discography.
They were called "the best girl group alive" by Billboard. They have the best bridges in kpop.
what i love about this killing voice is that it really does show their wide discography but still managed to skip over some of their albums entirely, and managed to only put the title track from the new full album they released at that time. and not to mention we didn't get to hear them sing one b-side from it until this past month when they did a fan concert.
I'm so glad you were able to really enjoy a lot of their music they did include and will definitely be watching future reactions!
and from left to right the members and their positions!
Wendy- obviously main vocal
Seulgi- * technically * lead singer, main dancer- but many believe her to also be a main vocal with Wendy
Irene- leader, main rapper, lead dancer, sub vocal (and visual and center but those positions don't really exist in kpop anymore imo)
Yeri- * technically * debut as sub vocal, sub rapper- but is really considered lead rapper, sub vocal
Joy- * technically * debut as lead rapper, sub vocal- but is really considered lead vocal, sub rapper (raps less and less as they release music)
I really appreciate Red Velvet !!
Wendy - Seulgi - Irene - Yeri - Joy
Main vocalist, Main dancer, Main rapper, not sure the official role of Yeri and Joy, but something around subvocalist/rapper (sry)
Irene/Seulgi biased here :P
Seulgi is kinda like the Sua of Red Velvet (The main dancer who can sing like crazy)... She is an ace, honestly. She can do whatever she wants and it'll be awesome.
Irene is one of the best leaders out there, i'll not spoil anything, but you'll notice... i dont know a single human being not liking Irene lol.
I love the comparison to Sua! Badass women! Love that.
I have a huge soft spot for leaders so Irene….yes
@BexaReacts SuA was a weekly guest on Wendy's Youngstreet from July 2021 through July 2022. Wendy left the dj booth July 2023 to appear in the revival of the musical Rebecca, but she is reported to be returning to Youngstreet this month
@@mahalleinir773 WHAT DJ WENDY IS COMING BACK???? I didn't hear this yet!
@thezircadia it was reported last week. Gyuri and Hyoyeon will be special DJ's for a week each and then Wendy is said to be back afterwards
Joy is lead vocalist for sure
I always get sad when people just do not know that Irene is the Main Rapper of Red Velvet.
Irene is the Oldest member, the Leader (she's great at keeping the members and their things organized and clean, she's a great cook, total Mother Figure, a very hard worker and a great role model). She's the group's Center, she's the group's 'Visual' (according to the stupid 'Korean Beauty Standard' which I think is total bunk because EVERY Soloist, Idol and Actor has to be 'good looking' enough to appear on camera...). Irene is also a really good Dancer and a really good Vocalist but she is SO OVER-LOOKED in the industry (unless she gets MAD and has to defend her babies). This woman is a (tiny) Force-Of-Nature that people are scared of for great reason! She's AMAZING all the way around but it seems nobody in Korea has noticed, which is SO SAD.
SM does not help the situation either, since they REFUSE to put any effort into Publicity or Marketing or any kind of proper promotion of this group. Yeri. working alone on her own time, does more and better promotion for Red Velvet than the entirety of the GIANT COMPANY that is SM Entertainment.
Here is some perspective about how SM treats their Girl Groups: Red Velvet did not have a Light Stick while EVERY OTHER GROUP at the time had one (some groups were even younger/ debuted later and had their Light Sticks before RV). The Fandom (ReveLuvs) did something awesome since SM wouldn't. At some point after promotions for 'Happiness' had ended, fans started showing up at concerts and fan signing events with those Multi-Colored Feather Dusters as 'poor-man's light sticks' (you simply MUST see 'the MV or live stage for 'Happiness' to understand how that happened, but I think it was a great pun). This SHAMED SM into FINALLY paying some attention to their biggest 'cash cow'.
Irene's visuals are overhyped and not because she isn't beautiful. She is. It is because overhyping her beauty causes others not to see her true worth in the group. I hate how people only talk about her visuals. She is good at singing and dancing and rapping, but noooo. Let's just talk about her visuals 😮💨😮💨😮💨
@@eyebrowstj Agreed.
The 'KBS' is just B.S. Irene is so much more than the Visual. It's obvious to everybody that she is very beautiful.
Now with that only-skin-deep stuff out of the way, everybody needs to start using their brains in their skulls, like the Frontal Lobes instead of thinking with their crotch. Start paying attention to what Irene says (and how she says it) and what she does (and how she does it).
Even more importantly, do that for EVERY Idol, Soloist, Actor and Athlete. Our Entertainers are PEOPLE, fellow Human Beings. Treat them like people, not like dumb eye-candy.
I like Red Velvet !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Left to right:
Wendy, Seulgi, Irene, Yeri and Joy

Psycho Facts!!
One thing to be careful about in pronunciation, don't slur "Yeri" into "Yrrri", because Yuri is a different name (most famous example, SNSD member). Keep the "e" brighter, "Yeh-ree". She is the maknae. Figuring out who's who by position doesn't work as well here, because despite classic Korean attempts to put everything in a perfect little pigeonhole, *they don't really have a "main rapper".* While essential to kpop songs, the rapper is the underdog in most groups, fewest lines, least center time, etc. Gets pushed into the background as part of the dance line, usually. RV frankly avoids that trap by handing the rap lines around on a song-by-song basis. Yeri, Irene, and Joy, as the lesser vocalists, get the rap lines the most often, but Seulgi gets them sometimes, and once even _Wendy_ did. Seulgi is the "main dancer", but as the S&I subunit songs (Monster & Naughty) show, she and Irene are both top-tier dancers, and in fact matched dancing machine Hyoyeon from Girl's Generation move for move on a live stage. So, take official positions (other than Main Vocalist) with a grain of salt with RV.
Red velvet👎 Wendy 🔇🙊😤😡🤦
