Honeymoon is my favorite lana album tbh. It's nostalgic for me, so many fond memories of me being 16 sobbing inconsoleably on my bathroom floor listening to The Blackest Day on repeat.
I’m a blue bannisters girl. It came out a month after my dad died and it helped comfort me. Feels like Lana was also going through some big life transitions at that time
It is absolutely wild to me that I am now 33, and Lana Del Ray is 5 years older than me, yet has been making music popular with mentally unwell teen and twenty-something girls literally all of my adult life and then some. There are teens listening to Lana Del Ray today who weren't even born when she started her music career 😦
she never said that she doesn't do that stuff tho, she said that she was called a whore for it but when others do it, people call it empowering and art.
born to die paradise edition will forever be THE lana album for me, but honeymoon is my second-favourite. not sure what that says about me. other than I'm a lana fan, obvi
Wow, I just realised how much Lana del Rey influenced me. I was a big fan in the beginning but already with ultraviolence I kinda wasn't hook by here anymore, maybe cause I wasn't a sad teen anymore. But listening again to born to die is like a crazy memory reawakening. Also her aesthetic was always sooooo beautiful and now as an grown ass women I spend to much money on 60s clothes, maybe cause she made me loce the look. And her nails were always goals
But she's right. Instead of helping each other, they just burry us. Like bro, I don't have a spine, I don't have friends, all I nees is fucking people screaming at me because I would do anything to be liked irl
@moononthewindynight27 honestly, that's just life. You have to learn to stand up for yourself because even when someone like me wants to stand up for you, I'm gonna wait for you to tell me you need me to. In life you have to learn to be your own prince charming.
Can we PLEASE just talk about how her Coachella comeback was SO INCREDIBLE?? I know she did a tour but i feel like it wasn’t like classic Lana, I’m obsessed. Chef’s kiss 😚👌
Radiohead fan here. The vocal melody of the first 1.5 minutes of Get Free are identical to Creep. The verse is definitely Creep but with different lyrics and re-recorded on different instruments. The chorus, however, is different. Love both songs but not sure how she could claim originality on that one. Anyway, love your videos and looking forward to your next! edit: wanted to add that it's funny how Radiohead actually got sued by The Hollies for that same song lol
Be serious lol when is the last time you heard either of those names without someone chiming in about their controversial status? Genuinely when? Those are probably the two worst examples in rap. The whole music industry actually. Everyone who's heard of them knows what they did. Majority of people know who she is but wouldn't know that LDR is even considered controversial
I appreciate that you have decided to make a vid on her though I think there is some stuff you could've included as well, like her leaks, which are basically a flipside of her discography. She has also released Say Yes To Heaven 10 years after it leaked, which was also a massive popularity boost, similar in scale to DYKTTATUOB in 2023. Also Lana is so indecisive about her naming her albums and it is so funny, like that Born To Die had like 5 concepts for a name and then also she had this whole back-and-forth about what she should call her albums from 2019-2022 (NFR, COTCC and Blue Banisters were originally "Birdworld/Burnt World", "White Hot Forever" and "Rock Candy Sweet") and the trailer of the album was more witch-y than the album turned out to be and the demos of the major singles show that she initially had a different vision for the album, too. The name for DYKTTATUOB was actually supposed to have been even longer, being "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd Pearl Watch Me on Ring a Bell Psycho Lifeguard" (say that 5 times over), which I find hilarious 😂. I personally realy enjoy the songs Back To The Basics, Behind Closed Doors and some other leaks (I highly suggest the Rush Hour fanmade mixtape), Get Free, Heroin and Change, as well as a few instrumentals and the entirety of her Born To Die through Honeymoon era. Overall, great trends analysis, but you kind of didn't specify in too much detail why 2016 was a dry year and how Lana promoted Honeymoon, as she had a whole hotline for it. Thanks for the video and listening to our requests
Im fine with lana but when i was younger i wasn't because i hated the coquette stuff and all the coquette girlies were listening to her and reading lolita and learning into the "treat me like a child" stuff. Then theyd play dumb and try to gaslight you as if you don't have eyeballs. Now im older and honestly dont care but my sister likes her and so i vibe with lana bc i love my sister and want her to be happy
19:35 maybe its just me but I have a feeling that "Say Yes To Heaven" might've also been an influence. Besides the fact that it went viral on tiktok, it's also one of the few instances I can think of where an artist decides to officially release a leaked song. Plus it started charting & gaining a number of streams following its release.
Ultraviolence is probably my favorite song of hers. I also love Mariners Apartment Complex and Hope is a Dangerous thing... I absolutely love the new album too. She's my favorite artist as well 💖 Edit: you just talked about UV. I'm stable enough
It would be interesting if you added an additional data source to plot for these analyses. Like when you mentioned that she didn't get as much of a google trends spike for "Lust for Life" doing well.... maybe if you juxtaposed something like Spotify plays, social media followers/reposts, or something. (Depending on what topic youre doing) As a fellow data nerd, I think it might be interesting! ...But I have no idea how hard it would be to get those datasets, so maybe I'm suggesting something that's too much... 😅
rip to Blue Banisters 😭 i'm biased since it has so much sentimental value to me. Beautiful helped me through my breakup and Sweet Caroline came out while my sister was pregnant with my niece
I went to the concert for her tour for “There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” it was amazing!!! I will say unfortunately there were a lot of fans there that didn’t know a lot of her old songs which was disheartening
i'm definitely a snob when it comes to lana's music and feel elite for knowing her rare music. my favorite songs of hers are a few of her rare songs. "queen of the gas station" and "raise me up" are my favorites. my least favorites are probably "put me in a movie" and "lolita" for their pedo glorification vibes. something was wrong with her when she wrote those. love this video btw
honeymoon is my favorite album of hers and by of all time. i think it’s a perfect album. the aesthetic and sound is consistent. the way the songs fall into each other. her vocals and instrumental .it’s just perfection
I actually really love Ocean Blvd and that song got me to listen to an LDR album in its entirety for the first time ever. (I know, so late to the game.) I think it's truly her best work yet and she was definitely robbed at the Grammys. As was Jon Batiste who was featured on it. I'll never get why Taylor brought her up on stage if not to hand the Grammy over. (Sweet is also my favorite song off that album, btw!) Having gone back to listen to her entire discography, apart from absolutely loving NFR and understanding why she was praised as one of the greatest songwriters of our time, I really like Honeymoon too. I feel bad I slept on so much of her work for so long, but I've been binge-listening ever since. Thanks for a great video.
the way I had to pause this video SO many times but literally just to listen to the Lana songs bc I needed to remember EXACTLY the vibe she was talking about for each song lmaoooo
I'm a musician and didn't get into Lana for ages, not sure why, sounded a bit simplistic. Then she started adding trip hop beats and I thought oooh, that is good. Simplicity, but genius. Then I heard Burning Desire and rebuilt it in Ableton from scratch, and was blown away by its composition - the dynamics are kind of crushed, but that expresses the tension of the song. Fav album probably NFR and Chemtrails. I pretend they're two sides of one album.
I went through a big Lana phase in 2020 and my (now ex) husband literally asked me if I was ok because I was listening to Lana. I was definitely not ok
You should do this with Ariana Grande. She used to have a youtube channel called Osnapitzari that i would watch. I was obsessed with it lol. I just feel like it would be a good trend to track because she definitely has had some controversies and it would cover a decent amount of years.
the “question for the culture” drama was the epitome of american ignorance. americans always turn everything into a racism discussion and ignore any other issue. she named those female artists, who are mainly rappers, because they’re the ones that talk about sexual expression and have explicit lyrics. who else could she name? shake it off-shake it off taylor swift? but people read it, ignored her standpoint and cried “racism” (when for over a decade she proved who she really was, hired poc, credited poc artists, she even has some of them tattooed) not even acknowledging how she’s always getting CRUCIFIED for simply talking about HER LIFE?? it’s not her fault she’s had a hard life. she just writes about it. it’s not “romanticizing” and that’s what her rant was about. she wanted to be understood and people dimmed her as the villain instead. Cancel culture is the worst that happened to society, for that now artists are bland and afraid to open up.
I know its bad but i used to just ignore some of her lesser known and less popular songs because i just assumed they were boring. It wasnt until i did a full listen of all her albums and realised how wrong i was. Now ive got a playlist with almost every song shes ever made 😂. Rn tho my favourites are Tomorrow never came and thunder
I’ve been listening to Lana del Rey forever. Thanks for helping me understand the dynamics of her current popularity. I’m old. Keep doing what you’re doing. You gonna be a star gurl! Also thanks for helping me understand the tradwife thing. I assumed it was bs. WTF
i also got into her as a middle schooler and i feel like i understood her music better at 12 years old than some grown ass adult men do (like they had to have it spelled out for her in the last album that she’s been through shit for them to get where she was coming from)
Ultraviolence is my #2, born to die paradise edition is my #1. Yes I’ve been to years to therapy and had several questionable tumblr accounts before I turned 16 😅 I listen to Lana when I reminisce on the old days of giving my parents wrinkles. I tried to run away once bc my mom wouldn’t let me die my natural blonde hair to black to match the other tumblr girlies at my school 😂
my fav songs are Paris, texas , love song (pretty much the whole nfr and ultraviolence album), the blackest day, shades of cool and dark but just a game
I know like 1 song by Lana (which I found out was technically unreleased) from my days of hearing about her from the pits of hell that is anime tumblr 2010s. Somehow I forgot about her until the recent news about marrying a swamp tour guide (???), which worked great because I ran into this video. Thanks swamp man.
Watching her go up the charts after being low shes higher up on the charts than Lady Gaga, LADY GAGA. Lana will forever be a hidden gem that isn't hidden anymore but yk.
I’m commenting so much omg but I hope her country album is like alternative, folk country bc I can dig that but if it’s like typical country music I’ll be disappointed
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of her as a person. She comes off as a person trying was to hard to be relevant and different. But she does make good music.
Born to die and Paradise are her best of lana fan. I guess I'm older I remember waiting for every lana del rey album when she was putting em out in real time and she's put out a lot of good records through out the decade but nothing beats born to die and Paradise for me. And I love honeymoon
Honeymoon is alr in my opinion. I love High by the Beach and Music to Watch Boys To, but that's about it. I'm a big fan of Ultraviolence and my favorite album is definitely Born to Die Paradise Edition (and Cola is one of my favorite songs along with Body Electric)

No way!! I totally get the nostalgia factor
The Blackest Day came out the year my grandma died. Honeymoon holds a safe place in my heart.
I don't like Lana Del Rey, but I love when people are so passionate about something that they put in this kind of work
The mesh face mask gets me everytime

It had lining and someone else who had that mask posted a video of it and showing them it has lining
