@@tomb7942 nah, I mean they didn't just snatch it away right after they found it. Extracting two half-frozen humans is one thing, moving such a huge object from such a remote place is another. Mounting the operation alone would take weeks. I assume there were at least six months between the discovery of second gate and its arrival to Area 51, enough time gap to make a copy without too much rush, unless it was stated otherwise during some episode that I just don't remember now.

The way Maybourne reacts to finding out the gate was kake, and the way he says 'please' and seems stressed.. I think he's relised that he's been screwed over by the group that took the gate and pulling strings and has understimated their inflance and power.

Probably because he never inspected the counterfit personally and didn't realize his erstwhile partners were so sloppy as to make it out of plastic, in their defense though I'm pretty sure they were running this on the fly, they had a very narrow window to grab the second Gate and didn't have time to make the fake one out of anything but molded plastic. He had to do some fast thinking to cover his ass there. Out of story though, I think the writers initially planned to have Maybourne not be associated with the rogue NID group, they changed their minds after this was filmed

      B) He tried really hard to bluff his way through their questioning including trying to pretend to be surprised. When his bluff failed he then tried to intimidate and threaten them to back off from their investigation.
