  • On todays Itwinerary we are walking the Jackson Ward District located in the northern portion of Downtown Richmond, Virginia.
"Jackson Ward is a historically African-American district in Richmond, Virginia with a long tradition of African-American businesses. It is located less than a mile from the Virginia State Capitol, sitting to the west of Court End and north of Broad Street. It was listed as a National Historic Landmark District in 1978. "Jackson Ward" was originally the name of the area's political district within the city, or ward, from 1871 to 1905, yet has remained in use long after losing its original meaning."- Wikipedia

Take this to the bank. San Antonio, Montreal Canada, Portland oregon and Richmond VA are some of the most coolest cities to explore. Absolutely gorgeous ❤.

I absolutely 💯 agree with u when I came from jersey city to visit Richmond I had no idea It had such a mid Atlantic somewhat Northeastern vibe to it i stayed in what they called the fan district row houses like up north everywhere corner stores on every block like up north and museums ,stores restaurants all in downtown I was so shocked that's why you can't listen to what people say you have to go and see for yourself nothing like Raleigh or Charlotte to my surprise it seems as if Richmond has more going on than those southern cities definitely an underrated city in my opinion I ❤️ loved it .

@@Classy4514 I have the same sentiments, I believe people formulate ideas based on history and old stereotypes. Richmond architecturally and structurally is mid Atlantic in character especially in the city core!

Where are the police? Just random graffiti destroying many store fronts.

We some some police in the area. A lot of graffiti, but doesn’t seem to be so much of a current situation, than a past one. There was some good areas though that showed the history there. We’ll do another video at some point there and see if anything has changed. We thank you so much for watching!

People judge the city based off the Confederate past, but the city is a new age fuse between southern and mid Atlantic culture!

Thank you very much for highlighting this historic area. I now live in California, but miss Richmond. I still remember our two story building at 14th and Leigh Street back in the 50s. All of your videos are informative as well entertaining. I'm binging on them now😂

Thanks for posting this. I spent part of my childhood in the neighborhood. So many great memories. However, it is frustrating to see the vacant buildings. I remember when this space (14:53 - 15:00) was a drug store with a supermarket on a lower level. I believe this property is owned by an out-of-town developer. I would love to know if they are planning to develop it any time soon.

You’re very welcome. Yes, many vacant buildings. We’re newer to the area and would love to see some things done as well. We’ll get more videos of the area if there are ever any changes. Thank you for watching!

I feel so out of the loop when it comes to the downtown area. They've really built it up and I can tell it's going to look great when done. I see so many new developments.
