Open world has started to become a red flag for me. With Gears 5 and Starfield being the worst offenders, there are too many barren open worlds. I'm not trying to traverse to far away spots with nothing between those 2 spots
I enjoyed the trilogy, the first game was my favorite. I'm looking forward to more Tomb Raider but they have to keep Camilla Luddington. She was perfect as the voice of Lara, so many Greys Anatomy fans have no idea the American accent is fake.
This doesn't make sense to me. Traveling around, different set pieces make sense to me. Open world like a bloated AC Odyssey worries me. Everything is open world now. I can't be the only one with open world fatigue
well her original thing was disowned by parents and inherited her aunts croft manor. The new dead father and chase in his footsteps isnt as good or as unique. They just went safe basic trope mode. Ac odyssey did have climb anything as well, i feel they really had something special with that game. But i also wouldn’t want a devolve into climbing simulator.
The audience that pays for these games is 45-50 years old, has to work 8-10 hours per day, is married, has children and couldn´t care less about Tomb Raider.... That is why is has to change
Please return to the British quipping experienced dungeon diving badass again. I would like then to take a Legacy of Kain approach. Give Laura an equally engaging antagonist that we can play between with it culminating in a rivalry between Two with each being each others rival boss fights/final boss fight.
I enjoyed and thought the last trilogy was pretty good for the most part. But the way the industry is going these days, I do not have high hopes for the next iteration of Tomb Raider.
Basically. I think game bloggers (not qualifying as journalists) and rats on twitter will definitely make creating a game with an intelligent, attractive, powerful, straight, light-skinned woman a struggle. It is truly pathetic that we even consider allowing people who don't even buy, play, or share these games control how games look and feel. Just saying it how it is
Despite all shortcomings, I loved rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy, and it had some very strong points. If they can build upon what worked in that, reboot might be ok? I feel strongest element was finding tombs in open world and then epxlore, that feels pretty much how best open world games do it (Zelda for example).
Tomb 2 just opened my eyes to the possibilities. I never had my mind blown so quietly, as the night I started playing a PS2 display at Best Buy with Tomb Raider 2/China level. I'd never even logged into Windows 3X before and never played a game that I didn't have to start by adding a quarter. Mind blown, in the best kind of way. Windows 95 PC (Cyrix CPU, no less) and other games followed. Peak gaming offerings were achieved c. 1999-2000, I think. Tomb 3, Half-life, Thief 1 and 2. Max Payne. Things have never been quite the same.
I mean... it's an idea. I wouldn't go out of my way to call it a good idea. "Open world" is honestly just very overrated, oversaturated, and the depths and effort it has to go through to even be good are fairly extreme. What's Lara bringing to the table that Link isn't? Aside from a better looking game due to not being glued to being a shoddy Nintendo exclusive. And that's just the weakest example. What does this bring that Genshin doesn't, or Bethesda's next ES/FO game? Is this better off than a more chapter and story oriented entry? Is this tradeoff worthwhile? I don't think so. I think this just bloats budget and dev time for an arguably weaker game at the end. Mostly, "Open World" games work due to a large cast and a lot going on... Link's the only one who gets away with painfully long stretches of solo wandering in massively empty lands, and only because Nintendo fanboys will flip their lids if you dare to point out that leaves the Zelda franchise at the bottom of the barrel for these types of games. Lara's already dealing with that and without Nintendo's zombies... just stick to the more focused story and gameplay experience. You can make massive elaborate puzzles and sequences that way, rather than the massive trim down you need when it's just 1 of hundreds of "Open World" puzzles.
If you want a good Tomb Raider take it away from Crystal Dynamics and never let them touch Lara again. Give Tomb Raider to Aspyr and see what they can do with her. I would like Shift Up to get Tomb Raider. Have a hot Lara again with hopefully a good story and good action. That said, none of these things will happen so the franchise can just die. I have the remastered original games. I am good.
They won't. That kind of gameplay only exists because of the meticulously contained and structured environments, no matter how large they may seem. So this is a pipe dream at best. I don't know why anyone would be so naive as to think "If the environments are suddenly going to be 20x larger, surely it will have the same density of puzzling and parkour and normal Tomb Raider gameplay". Not without 20x the game budget and staff it ain't.
It became quite old, pretty quick. Not a fan of the 'Carry exactly 1 handgun + exactly 1 rifle + exactly 1 shotgun + exactly 1 bow' formula. Also, make bows a Hell of a lot less important and focus on the dual handguns. And, while we're at it : Stop forcing Lara into a mandatory crouching position, every single time there's an enemy anywhere around here - even if the player doesn't know it.
Problem will open work is the lack of focus and the narrative basically loses any sense of urgency or weight and the nature of the open ended environment means some design limitations on character growth get thrown out of balance easily. A good compromise might be the Dark SOULS SUB worlds type of design.
I HATE an open world! Give me a beginning and an end that i can follow and I am a happy camper. Some people don't want to have to travel all over some CRAZY world map.
Ill wait until it comes out for my final opinion on an open world design, but I'm not totally enthusiastic about it. I like linear games and I like open world games. Tomb Raider to me is always appealing as a linear game. After the last trilogy, I do hope that it at least stays a mature game. I don't want to backtrack to a teen rated adventure.
Josh brings up how an open world Tomb Raider game might mimic a Far Cry game, but I'd be more worried about it being compared to Horizon (Zero Dawn; Forbidden West), games. Scott says, those games restrict your movement, but Forbidden West, does not. It has more free form climbing and includes tons of puzzle ruins and cauldrons aka Tombs. It also has collectibles and loot caches that require figuring out how to navigate to as well. It has mount and gliders, too. So, this would be my worry if I were a TR dev thinking about an open world experience since many recent games actually do open worlds well. Not every open world is a bloated, boring checklist game from Ubisoft in 2024. To think that, or try and mimic this is where it can go wrong.
I played Rise (which I enjoyed) and Shadow (not as much. Pretty boring and underwhelming final boss) back to back recently. I got tired them making the whole story about Trinity and Lara still stuck on her parent's death. It's ok to tackle those things, specially her parents, but one game was enough to it. Having her on the same emotional place got me tired. I thought her breakout was going to be when she got Jonah "killed" but no, it was the greatest moment that lasted nothing and she went back to being a kid who explores and casually kills. This is the same issue that happened to Hitman when Absolution came out. They put drama into it and became a linear story that most people didn't like (although I personally enjoyed it for a change). However, IO Interactive quickly realized their mistake and went back to the original formula (sandbox) with improved mechanics etc. and we've had Hitman 1, 2 and 3 as top enjoyable games. Crystal Dynamics should take a note or two from IO Interactive on how to handle failure.
Personally I like the open hub version of tomb raider. I’m not a fan of open world but the world of tomb raider would fit a open world setting very well
Until a new game comes out, be prepared for more things like Lara Croft in the mobile game Hero Wars. Embracer is going the mine the IP for every penny they can.
It absolutely DOES NOT need to go open world. That will ruin it. The world design they had, the semi open world one, was perfect and they need to stick to that.
I didn’t love the reboot trilogy. But I also recently played the remastered original trilogy and those don’t hold up as well as my nostalgia believe they would. So idk what I want now
Exploration could be cool in a game that really shoukd be about exploring. But getting that right is so, so hard. Ill bet they dont execute even if the concept is ok.
Also apparently, has a girlfriend, who works with lara to train other tomb raiders and gives back collected artefacts 🤡 it's not lara, it's not tomb raider
I first discovered Tomb Raider through the Angelina Jolie movie and immediately got Last Revelation because it was the only game I could get my hands on.
I hope they at least keep the insanely over the top deaths when you mess up. You don't jump out of the way you get crushed by a boulder. Take the wrong path down the river you get a tree branch through the head. They were so over the top wtf and they always made me laugh.
I have played the reboot trilogy and liked it quite a bit. So I recently bought Romb raider anniversary, legends and underworld. I understand why people love it so much, and now I know why people are pissed at Crystal for their "for modern audience" look. Such a shame that Lara is getting destroyed, she is such a badass.
Listening to this was hard. I loved the newer trilogy. It does not need to go open world. No game on this planet needs to go open world. I like a linear story. As for being too close to uncharted, there are 1 million copycats of fortnight and 1 million copycats call of duty and everybody argues over which one’s the best and nobody seems to think that there’s a problem with there being multiple examples of a genre with one exception: everybody seems to think that there can’t be room for a tomb raider and an uncharted. Bull crap! As for whining about tomb raiders tone, being gritty and somber, that was the very thing that made it feel different from uncharted! You can’t complain about them being too similar and then whine about the one thing that actually made them different.
Cmon man that's not so true is it? Yes, they were fantastic games for their time and we've got great memories but the 2013 trilogy was just absolutely incredible. Blew the originals out of the water in my opinion
The last trilogy just felt like they were going for an uncharted rip-off. That’s not Lara. She has a bland personality and no dual pistols. The remastered versions is the original ps1 games is what they should go for! It’s what the real fans REALLY WANT. They’re always trying to turn it into another game instead of keeping the essence of the originals and it just sucks to hear these news 😢 Hopefully, we can at least get a remastered versions of the fourth and fifth game
I don't see a problem with more Uncharted-like games if they are done well, It's not like Naughty Dog are making a new one any time soon and the last one came out 8 years ago (unless you count Lost Legacy as a separate entry) so the market isn't really saturated.
How on earth do you not like the 3rd game when it has way more content and things to do in it than it did when you played the first game. Those tombs in the first game was elementary level. The last game in the series still wasn’t that hard but you had to back track a lot, and actually think about what you were doing.

man the reboot series was perfect, just give us more of that....
No give us classic with dual pistols and sassy character
@yunogasai1594 or give us a blend of both, like the guys were saying in the vid, that way everybody wins.
@@PsychoSavage88I think if you played the other like 18 other tomb raider games their vastly different from survivor
What's happened to Lara's face?
She looks like a real person vs old Lara who looked like a wedge of cheese.
@@ZiddersRooFurry Lara Croft is suppose to look like Lara Croft, Not Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil. I swear people like you in this day and age are so scared of femininity.

Give us more modes like in ROTR and for the love of God don't make outfits mandatory like in shadow.
Open world has started to become a red flag for me. With Gears 5 and Starfield being the worst offenders, there are too many barren open worlds. I'm not trying to traverse to far away spots with nothing between those 2 spots
I can’t wait to play an open world Tomb Raider game . I’m 37 Tomb Raider is my first game ever and I am obsessed with this game, I hope it’s good
I absolutely love the last trilogy and so the last one was a little bit of a disappointment but still a fun enjoyable campaign
I know it won't happen, but if they could somehow combine TR1, Legend, and 2013 into one game, then that would be the perfect TR game for me!
I enjoyed the trilogy, the first game was my favorite. I'm looking forward to more Tomb Raider but they have to keep Camilla Luddington. She was perfect as the voice of Lara, so many Greys Anatomy fans have no idea the American accent is fake.
This is so depressing 😞
This doesn't make sense to me. Traveling around, different set pieces make sense to me.
Open world like a bloated AC Odyssey worries me. Everything is open world now. I can't be the only one with open world fatigue
Why cant we go back to linear
Better question: Will they make Lara black and/or LGBTQ?
I don't like what I'm listening about this game. Let's wait and see, I guess.
well her original thing was disowned by parents and inherited her aunts croft manor. The new dead father and chase in his footsteps isnt as good or as unique. They just went safe basic trope mode.
Ac odyssey did have climb anything as well, i feel they really had something special with that game.
But i also wouldn’t want a devolve into climbing simulator.
There attempt to get a younger audience is alienating the audience that accurately pays for there games.
The audience that pays for these games is 45-50 years old, has to work 8-10 hours per day, is married, has children and couldn´t care less about Tomb Raider.... That is why is has to change
@@marklevy1785 no,yes,no,no,no
Please return to the British quipping experienced dungeon diving badass again.
They’re going to ruin her character because of bunch of pink haired weirdos hate the fact that a Lara Croft raids tombs
Just saying it how it is
Oh get over yourself.
Wow. It seems like RUclips shadow-hid my comment. Can anyone else see my first reply? Shady stuff
Sounds like sweet baby inc got their hands on tomb raider
I mean... it's an idea.
I am good.
I just hope they keep the same gameplay mechanics. #1 reason Why i love those games so much
Very random question but - can you tell me what brand these microphone-desk-stands are from? Or do you even have a link for it maybe?
When I played shadow the first time I didn't like it but after recently giving it a second chance I've realised how good it actually is tbh
I HATE an open world! Give me a beginning and an end that i can follow and I am a happy camper. Some people don't want to have to travel all over some CRAZY world map.
I hope they keep the puzzles. I can see the vision of an open world. I hope Toby Gard works on this project
I bought all the tomb raider games in GOG
Yahtzee just did a video on the stagnation of 3D platforming/traversal. So this leak seems timely.
Played 1, 2, 3, last revelation, legend and 2013. Legend is by far the best.
Try anniversary and underwolrd if you liked legend
Nobody plays Tomb Raider to preserve culture.
Wait, didn't Embracer sold Tomb Raider off? Got confused.
Is it true it will be called Tom the Raider now?
I hope they bring back Camilla and keep Lara’s face the same!
I first discovered Tomb Raider through the Angelina Jolie movie and immediately got Last Revelation because it was the only game I could get my hands on.
Actually waiting for their take of Lara not raiding tomb anymore but none.
I hope they at least keep the insanely over the top deaths when you mess up. You don't jump out of the way you get crushed by a boulder. Take the wrong path down the river you get a tree branch through the head. They were so over the top wtf and they always made me laugh.
The description sounds like just cause. I'd hate for tomb raider be like that
RE9 Open World makes some type of sense to me, but I am not sure why. Tomb braider doesn't make sense to me.
Didn't they sell the tomb raider rights to someone else?
I love Tomb Raider because it's an action game with many enjoyable exploration and puzzles.
I liked all of them. Lighten up dude.
Can we all agree Tomb raider peaked on the PS1
Cmon man that's not so true is it? Yes, they were fantastic games for their time and we've got great memories but the 2013 trilogy was just absolutely incredible. Blew the originals out of the water in my opinion
@@bricktop. for me the new trilogy hasn’t got a patch on the originals
It peaked on Legends
Tomb Raider was good Rise was the best and Shadow just sucked.
I’m worried their going to screw this up! All you got to do is look at the disclaimer they added to the 1-3 remake. I enjoyed the last trilogy.
The last trilogy just felt like they were going for an uncharted rip-off. That’s not Lara. She has a bland personality and no dual pistols. The remastered versions is the original ps1 games is what they should go for! It’s what the real fans REALLY WANT. They’re always trying to turn it into another game instead of keeping the essence of the originals and it just sucks to hear these news 😢 Hopefully, we can at least get a remastered versions of the fourth and fifth game
tomb-raider should be "dark souls open world" not elden ring, but dark souls
Uncharted Lost legacy ch4 with way better puzzles and platforming with coop would be amazing
Sounds like a Far Cry from previous efforts
I don't see a problem with more Uncharted-like games if they are done well, It's not like Naughty Dog are making a new one any time soon and the last one came out 8 years ago (unless you count Lost Legacy as a separate entry) so the market isn't really saturated.
I hope lara will have her braid again
How on earth do you not like the 3rd game when it has way more content and things to do in it than it did when you played the first game. Those tombs in the first game was elementary level. The last game in the series still wasn’t that hard but you had to back track a lot, and actually think about what you were doing.
Let's be sure to get rid of raiding tombs in Tomb Raider, that's for damn sure. In fact, raiders will be the bad guys. 🙄
