it's a problem with the culture surrounding the military in general, people who have no idea what they want to do with their lives often go into the military (i saw it very often). These people aren't equipped for what military life entails and it leads to them becoming ruined. Time after time, when people are able to afford basic necessities of life while also having an abundance of free time, they choose to express themselves through art. LA was once a prosperous city, and thus has a strong culture focusing on individuality and artistic expression. Which I find is quite harrowing, due to the staggering amount of impoverished in the area. I may not be from LA, but growing up in San Diego, all of this still hits home. California in general, is an awful place. There were days that my parents were scared for our safety - apartments being broken into, bar fights in the street outside our home - and the people here are awful. Entitled, self-centered. San Diego is more expensive to live in than LA because of how bad things have gotten, but there are already a lot of people on the streets in SD and I imagine that number will only go up as the cost of living and rent continues to increase. here in az growing up , I constantly had people around me talk about hows its boring in phoenix and it should be like LA/cali I visited LA for the first time three years ago and I HATED IT lol sucks now that people are moving here and rent and the cost of living went up
I also live in AZ and their calling it the new LA. I hate that, our population has gone up and more people from Cali are coming over. Making houses that used to cost 350k, now 700k+. I have friends getting kicked out of houses they are renting because rent is now 2100 when it used to be 1000. I hate it 😕
Just came back from Long Beach last weekend. The feeling was… surreal. So much going on that you have to be either oblivious or willfully ignorant to what’s going on around you. It used to be a beacon of hope and promise, now it’s washed up dreams and the premise of something just out of your reach but you still try and grab or hold on to it.
The women in the apron and who was doing the yoga for you, you can really hear the desperation in her voice asking for people to all be at peace with each other and take a second to stop look and listen closely enough to hear the next person talk to you. I feel for someone like that because they’re must’ve gone through so much that the only thing they want is the next person to have respect from others and with others all around. Being LA for 21 years myself, it’s sometimes hard to realize myself in the moment but other times I can think closely enough from within myself to think of the other people around me. But being in a city like this with little friends and money makes you feel unheard and always instead mentally unhappy with yourself and the other people around you :(
This series has almost brought tears to my eyes, I've been to every place in the video, and I don't even live there my old girlfriend did. Seeing the Veterans (I'm an Air force Vet) and so many homeless is depressing. LA is truly a city of the best of the best, and worst of the worst all in one area. Skid row is an absolute nightmare come to life, zombie apocalypse. In LA there is no community and rarely see the same person twice, so its actually great if your a loner surprisingly. There really is no ryme or reason to life in LA as most just go about their lives in a complete vacuum, think the Matrix. Its so easy and warm there one can fall into the trap of being homeless much easier than anywhere else in the US, which is scary.
Thank you for this, 🙏 love watching and learning about LA and society. Your videos go deeper than just what’s it’s like to live in LA just know that you really have an impact on people and the next generation.
@@BLUESHYGUY8000 new York city is a shithole but beyond those Japanese big cities many large cities suck like London, Manchester and liverpool. They all seem to think they are wise and deep. Like they have the answers of what should be. All I asked is "How are you doing today?" and they go into a whole speech about the meaning of life and what everyone should be doing.
Portland Oregon has a similar vibe; young people from all over move there for the hip laid back lifestyle and then they realize a studio apartment costs $2,000/month
LA has plenty of issues but people like to get way too hyped about how terrible California/LA is compared to the dumpy flyover suburbs they live in. You'll be fine lol
Just don’t lose yourself. Don’t lose yourself, and don’t lose yourself. It’s so easy to forget who you are in that city because almost everyone who lives there has put on rose colored glasses to ignore the pain and terror of actually living there. There’s beauty in everything but it’s so important to remember who you are and not get sucked into the vast emptiness that permeates the type of society they live in. Stay safe, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, that’s the only way you can get in, get what you need, and move on. LA is best for the travelers, living life riding a wave, but it’s a trap, and a damn good one, for those who are already lost and looking for purpose.
I recently moved to 3 different big cities in the USA,(and travel a lot) ... I miss LA. No place is perfect but all I can say is the best two feelings in life are leaving LA and returning to LA. So happy everytime I visit back. Can't wait to move back someday. (Maybe I'm biased since i grew up there but LA is still a special place despite it's cons.)
One day, I hope to experience a pilgrimage similar to the one you had being in California. My friend who lives out there has been feeling the exact same sentiments on the state of the world, so a little collaboration and like mindedness can hopefully put me at peace. Thank you for this docu-series, it’s been very enlightening.
I have never been to LA but seeing this documentary brought back memories of the first time I saw Chicago, and especially when I began to meet people from the area and met people who lived their whole lives in the city. It’s true that LA is probably the worst in terms of the problems pointed out, but it’s spreading rapidly across the country, and everyday Chicago looks more an more like the LA in this video. I also think it would be fascinating to see Glink go to many small towns around here in the Midwest or in the Northeast, to see what happens when the industrial lifeblood of those communities are ripped away and how people react. I personally find it equally disturbing but in a way that is unique from LA.
Bro this was an absolute trip. Been following you for years now , it’s been awesome watching you evolve into a pretty damn good videographer. Keep it up!
i've been living in la on and off for about 6 months and i haven't had a car when i've been here. it's honestly such a completely different experience navigating the city with a car versus without one. the inequalities and desperation are so much more tangible when you don't have the glass separating you
Man when someone speaks more than 40 wpm with exaggerated expressions and emotions to a random stranger with a camera, it automatically makes me feel something's not right in their head. A lot of folks in LA come across like that
Even though its just extra footage it kind of feels like an epilogue during some parts. Something about seeing the characters in similar circumstances, but also a little different (cause its not the same footage I mean), and the delay between seeing the last part and this vid being a few weeks. I dunno maybe its just my imagination.
I love the juxtaposition you show in these videos of Los Angeles. Its heartbreaking, irritating, and i even find humor in the hypocritical nature of these people. So many trying to be "someone" so badly, the other halfof the people completely embracing having nothing and being perceived as a "nobody" in the eyes of others. It is quite literally the best example of polar opposites coexisting in the same city... so many rich and "beautiful" people there, while at the same time just as many poor and houseless people that either ugly by there appearances or actions... yet they are the nicest ones while the the rich people are so mean and have horrible manners. The prettiest people do the ugliest things. Great video again. I have alot of ideas and writing about things very similar to these videos having gone thru homelessness myself recently and just now making it out and starting new again.. and I was wondering if I could email or reach out maybe. Either way I admire your work and look forward to see more from you work on. :)
I went to Santa Monica high school in the mid-60's during an incredible cultural revolution, California Dreaming invited the world to come,.. and they did. California was an egalitarian paradise and then Reagan became governor and I knew it was over... They over taxed the middle class but exempted the rich and California fell apart. When you become homeless, your life falls apart and the homeless far exceeds the ones living on the pavement. Thousands are living in their cars and vans and they are working.. The TV networks blame the homeless but they are just a symptom.. The state hopes they will go away or just die... This is not the answer.
valuing friendship while sitting on a sidewalk all alone smoking a cigarette . Values her kids the most yet she's out on the town while someone else looks after them. they value women as they've been going ignored by them. Yes, LA is as horrible and crazy as seen on this video.
I feel like you've included me on a spiritual journey in L.A. and I appreciate that Glink. Growing up near L.A. and constantly seeing it in streams, I am very familiar with this city, so I can get tired of hearing about it. I admit though that L.A. is a charming microcosm for better or worse, time hasn't been kind to her but it's still full of genuine humanity at it's best and worst. I will be excited to see your next project, keep it up.
I’ve lived in LA my whole life and while I can’t say everything has always been great…for the majority of my life I’ve been very happy. It’s about making the best of your shitty circumstances and coming from a family of hard working immigrants, it has inspired me to do my damn best despite it all. So, LA might not be the best but they’re some good people here. Hardworking and always trying their best. I guess I’m coping and seething a lil but yeah lmao, LA ain’t too shabby. The only thing I will complain about is the gas prices, actually wanna off myself whenever I see them 😭
Awesome video. I love the ending where you ask "What is most important to you?" and the normal, regular dressed people say things like "my health, family, money" and all the homeless people say "my freedom!"
@@lyssanch3096 it means the homeless people are brainwashed and would rather live in the dirt than get a job and a home because... Freedom... Or something

I love the music at 17:50, and I also enjoy your occasional use of the Unicorns throughout this series. You should post your music playlist somewhere cause I need more of it
I love California but it is fucking tainted. Great weather and everything, nice areas, but the cities are horrible, and so is the price. The US is inflated everywhere right now, but California has always been super expensive and it's just getting worse. I feel horrible for these people
if all you can speak on is the price of shit in Cali then you are missing some of the point. There's a cultural rot spreading and things being super expensive is part of that Seen a cali compliant AR-15? Man I love constitutional violations. Cali loves 'em too. Kind of more important to focus on how LA makes a mockery of human life over how much you have to pay at your IPA-serving hipster bar.
Just remember if you live in the US these large cities basically determine your federal leadership. Thanks for adding the last folks there to lighten up that black pill.
great work dude. only 2:30 in, but have seen the other two LA ones. true independent filmmaking. recently moved away from this place after nearly a decade. :0
I definitely see Los Angeles being a tech city because a lot of movies and filming have moved to different states. Los Ángels no longer is the capital for that anymore. Also, with the pandemic lots of small business closed and never reopened. Don’t even talk about how expensive it is to own or rent that’s driving middle class people out. It’s very sad because there’s a lot of history and culture in L.A that’s being erased.

here in az growing up , I constantly had people around me talk about hows its boring in phoenix and it should be like LA/cali
I visited LA for the first time three years ago and I HATED IT lol
sucks now that people are moving here and rent and the cost of living went up
I also live in AZ and their calling it the new LA. I hate that, our population has gone up and more people from Cali are coming over. Making houses that used to cost 350k, now 700k+. I have friends getting kicked out of houses they are renting because rent is now 2100 when it used to be 1000. I hate it 😕
its very unsustainable too. AZ is a desert state which can't naturally support millions of ppl living there.
Thank you for reminding me never to step foot in LA.
But being in a city like this with little friends and money makes you feel unheard and always instead mentally unhappy with yourself and the other people around you :(
She Def lost her damm mind and need help

Going through a really tough time IRL right now, really happy to see a Glink video upload in my time of need.
Thank you for this, 🙏 love watching and learning about LA and society. Your videos go deeper than just what’s it’s like to live in LA just know that you really have an impact on people and the next generation.
Honestly this proves that gigantic cities were a mistake in general
No its just the people at the top are currupt
dude, never ever city is like LA
Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and even New York City are nothing like this
More on that later
@@BLUESHYGUY8000 new York city is a shithole but beyond those Japanese big cities many large cities suck like London, Manchester and liverpool. Since I can't really trust people I have been scared to move to a large city like one with 250,000+ plus people
Note: the largest one I live at for more than a year has a population around 72,000 with a population density of 750 people per square mile way less crowded than a big city like anyone of the ones you described
But even with the one with 72k people I still hated it
@@flip0345 cant blame only the top when the bottom is participating.
A real dystopia. And it seems that people just can’t get enough of it and want to bring it to the whole country.
They all seem to think they are wise and deep. Like they have the answers of what should be. All I asked is "How are you doing today?" and they go into a whole speech about the meaning of life and what everyone should be doing.
Lmfaooo
Thanks so much for making documentary quality stuff for RUclips. Your content is genuinely fantastic
Portland Oregon has a similar vibe; young people from all over move there for the hip laid back lifestyle and then they realize a studio apartment costs $2,000/month
I live in a small town in Wisconsin and this is like a safari to me
I'm about to move to LA for school next fall and now all I get are these videos about how terrible the city is like 😭
Stay safe
Two things i hope peoples can learn in their life
1. Learn to have Empathy for others
2. Learn to Communicate with others
It's the Truman show in a nutshell.
i can’t tell u how reassuring this vid is bc i’m actually from LA as well, and i’m struggling to get my life started.
The "smell my finger and just breathe" yoga lady who always sounds like she's about to cry is my favorite.
Keep it up!
Did not expect him to be watching a Sam Hyde podcast
Haha
i've been living in la on and off for about 6 months and i haven't had a car when i've been here. it's honestly such a completely different experience navigating the city with a car versus without one. the inequalities and desperation are so much more tangible when you don't have the glass separating you
best part 8:45 - such true words for anyone watching of any faith or color
lol the Perfect Guy Life vid to Gembob was genuinely entertaining, based
@4:55 LOL when worlds collide
yknow sometimes it feels like we're all sleepwalking toward a nightmare, and that nightmare looks a lot like la
Man when someone speaks more than 40 wpm with exaggerated expressions and emotions to a random stranger with a camera, it automatically makes me feel something's not right in their head. A lot of folks in LA come across like that
Really appreciate the effort and perspective you put in this 👏
hearing The Unicorns for a brief moment made me smile ear to ear.
thank you for all the rad content you make
Ayy I actually discovered them on my last trip to LA and i was bumping their album the whole time
Even though its just extra footage it kind of feels like an epilogue during some parts. Something about seeing the characters in similar circumstances, but also a little different (cause its not the same footage I mean), and the delay between seeing the last part and this vid being a few weeks. I dunno maybe its just my imagination.
I've barely started the video but emasculate the masculine is one of my favorite songs. Awesome.
You do such an awesome job with these. I feel dirty while I watch your videos, not the good kind of dirty but you know what I mean. LA is disgusting.
Great presentation as always man. It's a damn shame what's going on there because it's such a beautiful state
Wow this gta 5 mod is insane!!! SO REALISTIC!!!
California is a beautiful state... Easily one of the most beautiful in this country. Such a shame, the golden state has gone down the drain!!!
Could be worse, it could be Portland 😂
or Detroit lol
I've been a shut-in for 8+ years now. never stop moving, even if there is no light ahead
lol I'm a beginner
Gembob watching Sam Hyde fucking wild😂😂
Glad I got recommended your video after like 5 years
Another good video. You’re the only RUclipsr I go out of my way to check for new uploads. Keep it up.
Appreciate it
17:30 hit pretty hard for me i loved that talk about driving and relating it to pacing in life, emotions, awareness, and just balance.
I literally got excited seeing this drop. Thanks for what you do.
6:33 hell yeah "Come to Your Senses"!
Good catch
The only thing I will complain about is the gas prices, actually wanna off myself whenever I see them 😭
powerful smug pfp
Awesome video. I love the ending where you ask "What is most important to you?" and the normal, regular dressed people say things like "my health, family, money" and all the homeless people say "my freedom!"
Does this mean to be normal means you're not free?
@@lyssanch3096 it means the homeless people are brainwashed and would rather live in the dirt than get a job and a home because... Freedom... Or something
Sounds kinda strange, but i want to move back to cali and help the people in LA and San Fran. Whether it's housing advocacy or mental health type stuff. I love Cali, i love the ocean. I think the scenery is great and the tbh i feel like its the best place (mentally) for me. There is soo much to explore that i had not been able to as a kid.
A part 3??? Dude you just keep popping out amazing vids!
Great video once again, Glink. It's nice to see perspectives of others and yourself. It helps me rethink my opinions on topics I may not think over on a regular basis again. Keep it coming.
This is one of the most interesting series I've been following recently
I love the music at 17:50, and I also enjoy your occasional use of the Unicorns throughout this series. You should post your music playlist somewhere cause I need more of it
Do you know the song!? I think it sounds like Animal Collective but I can’t find the song :(
@@smellylorenny that’s what I was thinking!! I hope we find it soon🙏
Love your content dude! It has been crazy to see how you and your content has changed throughout the years that I have been watching.

You are amazing, I really hope your content keeps trending this way.
this video is helping me on the path toward choosing to be happy
love to hear it
I love California but it is fucking tainted. Great weather and everything, nice areas, but the cities are horrible, and so is the price. The US is inflated everywhere right now, but California has always been super expensive and it's just getting worse. I feel horrible for these people
The developed world is inflated everywhere. Not jsut the US
if all you can speak on is the price of shit in Cali then you are missing some of the point. There's a cultural rot spreading and things being super expensive is part of that
Seen a cali compliant AR-15? Man I love constitutional violations. Cali loves 'em too. Kind of more important to focus on how LA makes a mockery of human life over how much you have to pay at your IPA-serving hipster bar.
@@AdamOwenBrowning Of course I know that. I wasn’t trying to express that it was the only issue. I’ve seen his other videos on LA. It’s corrupt
@@TomNook. Yeah, but inflation is especially affecting California hard.
Just remember if you live in the US these large cities basically determine your federal leadership. Thanks for adding the last folks there to lighten up that black pill.
Love it bro! Keep up the amazing content!
Damn growing up in Oc /Lac shit hits in a nostalgic way, these streets id walk up and down casually oh so many times. Appreciate this channel much !
The quality of content from this channel has improved tremendously compared to when I first subbed. Keep up the great work
Beautiful video Glink!
All these videos are fascinating to see and really shine a light on a side that never gets aired anywhere.
Hell yeah for playing The Unicorns. I know very few people who have ever heard of them.
great work dude. only 2:30 in, but have seen the other two LA ones. true independent filmmaking.
recently moved away from this place after nearly a decade. :0
-Money.
-Freedom.
That was strong, I've felt that.
He can’t keep getting away with it!!!

Hey glink, would you ever cover some of the conflict happening in Armenia? I feel like it would be interesting to see you cover that
I definitely see Los Angeles being a tech city because a lot of movies and filming have moved to different states.
Good to see someone is spreading the good word out there but even that seems off in that city.
These movies are one of a kind. Im a big fan of yours. Thank you 💜
Smh🤦🏻♂️ the more I watch the more depressing it is lol
