    Some great selections to ponder, thank you Ken - thanks for taking the time to do this. Much enjoyed, fun and educational. Jumped down the Billy Mohler rabbit hole - some very good work by these young players. For anyone who is interested, Amazon is virtually giving the London Brew 2-LP away @ 48% off, for $15.59. Score!

    Ken! Thank you so much for this video. Love it. Just love it. I had 3 of these already and will for sure get at least 2-3 more. So many great great unique records here. Your work here is very helpful. To me and I hope to these Jazz artists and labels. This is not pop music. They need your support and ours. I love records and I believe it helps these artists if we buy their records.

    Beautifully done as usual, Ken I’ll definitely be picking up the Tom Halsell. He’s like the Pat Matheny of trumpet.

    • @westernartifact580
      @westernartifact580 6 месяцев назад

      Yes! But I think his name is Matthew. Metheny loves the trumpet doesn't he. His brother is a terrific trumpet player, Pat plays the trumpet, and he tries to make his guitar sound like a trumpet (in more ways than 3). Yes!

    Hi Ken, thanks and happy new year too! Short music samples is really a good idea to give an feeling of the music/sound. Thanks to take the time to mix it all… BTW Jérome Sabbagh record is an all analog recording, mixing. Mastering, cut by B.Grundman. this guy is really dedicated to « vintage »sound quality. @@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 I recall as a child (I'm now 62yrs old) being intimidated by his stature as he was a big guy, yet this was so contradictory to his warm personality. I have one of Chuck Mangione's hats given to me by my great Aunt (Vin's mom) when Chuck would stay at the house as a 'starving musician', sleeping on the couch. She, Linda, would feed anyone brought to the house her extraordinary Italian cooking, as that is the Italian way. His son Charles followed in his footsteps as a drummer whom I'm in touch with periodically.

    Matthew Halsall is from Wigan which is in the north of the UK. Wigan has a great jazz festival which has hosted many of the greatest jazz musicians over the past 40+ years. I knew Matthew as a teenage trumpet player and he has come a long way since then. He is currently based in Manchester UK which is also in the north of England. I'm sure he appreciates your kind words about him.
    Thanks for the video and Happy New Year.

    Thanks for taking the time to provide samples Ken, kind of you and helpful!
    I just started getting into Charles Tolliver. Man I sure like The Ringer, Music Inc and Live At Slugs; though the later is more challenging for me. Virgo Vibes is another good album that I believe he was featured on.
    Not calling you out, but more curious as to why you do not care for his music?
    Also curious what, if any, of the Strata East titles you dig?
    Just learning here and enjoy getting your seasoned opinion on these type questions. Thanks again for all of your great video contributions!
    Happy Jazz Year 😎👋🏻

    Happy New Year Ken, I know this is off topic, but I was wondering if you could potentially consider interviewing Demond Wilson who I believe is a Jazz Fan! I have heard him mention that he grew up in the same Harlem neighborhood that Duke Ellington, Count Basie & Coleman Hawkins hailed from! Something to consider perhaps?
