I was very impressed when I received the SCHF55 which for those who are not familiar with that model is a smaller version of the SCHF42. Soon as I saw it and picked it up I was extremely happy that I bought it and felt reassured I made a good choice. You, and several other reviewer's were all right on this one. Even though I own a lot of Schrades, these knives really stand out.
I bought a 36 after watching your vid. When I got it the firerod was missing. So I called Schrade and talked to this really nice person in customer service. She said she would send me the rod and took my address. When it showed up there were two rods in the pkg and a t-shirt in my size. What a stellar company with stellar products and customer consideration.
Have to check it out after watching your an Tactical's vids, I have begun using schrade knives again. Totaly Love the PHW, the 56L, an the 36. The first too I edc all the time. An use the 56 as a main or back up to my main camp knife. As always thank you for what you do, really enjoy your vids, an enjoyed you song from your recent camping trip with BSA.
I had to send my first SCHF42 back because the grind was horrible - one side was ground, the other side not. The dealer exchanged it with no problems, and the replacement was fine. It did need some honing on the ceramic rod. All in all, I am satisfied, it does everything I want it to and it is really comfortable in the hand.
+Survival On Purpose I just love, love, love this knife. It's everything you said it was. Very comfortable, and a wonderful all purpose blade. Thanks for the tip.
+Survival On Purpose do you have any videos teaching proper techniques for throwing knives? you talk about balance..... I tend to like heavy bladed knives when throwing them... but I am self taught and only consistent at about 5 feet or one full rotation
This is the knife I've been waiting for! A simple, effective, high value all around with a real handle you can grab onto. NO BS worthless custom features that are useless/valueless. My BK 15 handle is way too small/thin and never gave a secure grip. Love that crovan though. And I'm a leather guy. Should receive mine next week. Good job!
Bryan, Sometime when you get a chance how about giving a tutorial about knife throwing. I would enjoy that as I do your other work. The SCHF 42 looks great. Thanks for all you do. Utah Jim
Out of all the Schrade knives this looks to be the best, a buddy just won one and I am itching to get my hands on it. Thanks for the review Brian...atb-Brody
I posted earlier that I want one. Well....as luck would have it, I won one on Schrade's facebook page. I was notified that I won on Friday the 13th. I think I'll be looking at that date in an entirely different light from now on.
A tip for your viewers about the 42. I found the grip to be too slick for my hand. I put a strip of Talon Grip tape around it between and nearly to each screw. I used a hairdryer to form fit the tape and now the 42 feels 100% to me.
I already have 2 of the SCHF9's but I believe I'm going to add this one as well, when they become available. All the reviews I've seen so far say the same, AWESOME. :)
Brother, you are so right, baton with the knife, show the people how it's done, and do your own thing as you see fit. No, there is no need to baton wood in every situation but it is good to practice and know how before the time may come that you have to, in a survival situation and you either lost or don't have a hatchet processing wood is very important to help keep you alive and I say to Hades to the people who cuss you and put you down for batoning wood, if the time ever comes and they are trapped in the wilderness with nothing but a knife I think they would baton wood in a heartbeat. I am a subscriber to your channel and I have learned a lot watching your videos, you showcase fine tools and give good sound advice. Keep them coming and I'll keep watching. Later bro
Thanks for the review Bryan. I think your wife may get a little jealous with the way you're fawning over this knife...lol. But by all accounts, Schrade has another winner with this one.
Just got mine today Brian and I love this thing, the size is perfect and the sheath is oldschool which IMHO is awesome. I'm going to get me some of those micarta scales after Christmas is over with I'm definitely gonna make this one my own. Thanks once again for your reviews, I could tell by your reaction alone that the 42 was special so I definitely will be getting the schf55.....I'm gonna try making a kydex sheath with piggyback for the 55 ;) Godbless brother & happy holidays.
I just got some really nice Mike Carter scales for the 42 from Joe Snarski today. Be watching for that video. You and your family have a very Merry Christmas too!
Your feather stick skills are kind of amazing. I've binge watched a lot of your videos and almost everytime you say "this isn't the best wood for feather sticking" and then you proceed to make a great feather stick. Granted I'm not a scout so my perspective of feather stick skills is skewed but still, impressive.
Just got the non-recurve version, last week. This is my favourite fulltang, now. I liked the Becker BK16, but the handle was too small for my liking. This knife is very similar, but the handle is very generous. I stippled it with a soldering iron & it's now grippy enough. I think Schrade hit it out of the park. Best part, it was CDN$55!
Bryan; Don't let the people who hate batoning with a knife bother you. I would like to see ANYONE split a two inch limb into 4 or 8 sections with an Axe. There are only two things I would change with the SCHF42. 1. Get rid of the recurve so the knife could be sharpened in the bush. 2. Get rid of the full flat grind in favor of the Scandi, Saber, or Convex grinds. A FFG is the weakest and most fragile of all the grinds. My favorite grinds are SCANDI or Saber. Convex can be difficult to sharpen in the bush.
MatoNupai I use a diamond rod to sharpen recurves and it works pretty good. I know a lot of folks don;t like them because you can't use a stone. I also know a LOT of folks like full flat grinds. Everything has pros and cons.
I have a suggestion for you when you talk to the schrade company ask if they can make a knife in this style but with a convex grind. The convex grind seems to perform better at camp and bushcraft chores and processing larger game animals and I think that a knife of this design with a convex grind would be a awesome knife
Ditch that recurve in favour of clip or drop point and I think schrade would have a best seller in that knife's category. Great review as always and keep safe.
What a great Review I'm new to Bush Crafting and I think I just found my knife thank you for the review I like it a lot we knew you was going to throw it lol
I like it a lot and want one. I agree with those who say it's the best Schrade yet. It has great proportions and I could find a way to deal with the recurve. And I'm not a sheath snob. As far as I can tell it's fine. As long as all or most of the handle rides below the belt it's workable.
I think curved blade like this schf42 are difficult to sharpen than straight ones like the schf31 or 32 for example. I use a Fallkniven DC4. thanks for all your videos ! Stay safe !
First I want to say love the channel Bryan! Been subbed for quite some time and always look forward to watching your vids. I know this is kind of an older vid but I was wondering if you have heard anything about a non recurve version of this knife coming out? I would prefer a non recurve but I wouldn't mind either way since it is a great knife. Regardless I appreciate all the great gear and informative vids! Your reviews have turned me on to a lot of great gear just need to get around to buying it all lol. Take care and I'm sorry I'm not social enough for "social media" but I always give a big thumbs up to your vids!
Hey Bryan! Great videos! I was curious how one would send you a knife to test & review. My husband made a knife in the "Kephart" style from an antique butcher knife, and wanted you to test it. Thanks again for all of your videos! We watch on a regular basis, and he loves all of your uploads.
Jennifer Darden I appreciate the offer Jennifer. The thought of "testing" an antique anything sort of makes me cringe. If you want to go the "About" page on my channel, my email is at the "For business inquiries:" link. Send me an email and we'll talk about it.I appreciate your confidence ;-)
You guys are killing me with this one. You know I wonder if they are shipping with the leather sheath. I saw the knife on Amazon and I think they advertised it with a nylon sheath.
It should be coming with the leather sheath. If it's not I'd be skeptical of the seller. I personally usually wait til the main inventory hits and I see the word "Prime" attached to it so I know it's legit and fulfilled by Amazon so if I have any issues they'll take care of it. Just be cautious and you should be fine.
Grivory: Polyphthalamide (aka. PPA, High Performance Polyamide) is a thermoplastic synthetic resin of the polyamide(nylon) family that is used to replace metals in high temperature automotive applications, as the housing for high temperature electrical connectors and multiple other uses. It has found a degree of favor for use in cutlery. PPA’s are polyamides containing aromatic rings in their backbones, which gives them high mechanical strength and thermal resistance.[1] The term PPA is used when 60% or more moles of the carboxylic acid portion of the repeating unit in the polymer chain is composed of a combination of terephthalic (TPA) and isophthalic (IPA) acids.[2] As a member of the nylon family, it is a semi-crystalline material composed from a diacid and a diamine which means PPA is formed by the reaction of aromatic acids with aliphatic diamines. However, the diacid portion contains at least 55% terephthalic acid (TPA) orisophthalic acid (IPA).[3] TPA or IPA are aromatic components which serve to raise the melting point, glass transition temperature and generally improve chemical resistance vs. standard aliphatic nylon polymers and reduce water absorption.[4] If more than 55% of the acid part of a PPA is made out of IPA, then the copolymer is amorphous In recent years, polyphthalamides have been commercialized by several polymer resin manufacturers which are under the trade names Amodel, Grivory, Ultramid T, VESTAMID HTplus, Akromid T and Zytel(r) HTN
I have been hunting for these knives for years since the model was discontinued. Do you by chance still have yours? If so would you be willing to part with the schf42 and/or schf42d?
Thanks for this review, and all your other ones as well. I thought your idea for the "fat wood" handle on your fero rod was excellent. The two go together like peanut butter and jelly in my opinion. You might have a marketable product there sir? Really neat when you scraped off the extra to start the fire with. Keep up the good work.
does it hold a good edge though? i need a good belt knife, ive been using a wildcat warrior but its more of a good looking fashion statement than a knife to work with. and i aint payin more than a 50$ bill for a knife.
I have an old bone handled schrade sharp it is comfortable this one looks better its been over 20 years since I got the sharp. this looks like a nice knife
an awesome sharp fixed blade the SCHF52 and the SCHF52M what an awesome pair ..... This SCHF42 is looking mighty fine also .... are we getting to the axe and Machete give away with a SCHF52 or 42 give away ..... awesome .....
+Kevin Fetzer I know nothing about any giveaways right now but I would stay tuned to Schrade's Facebook page because they do a lot of giveaways with a lot of people.
By the way, Brian, the Becker BK's use Grivory for their handle material, I really like it. Cold Steel also used it on some of the older folders, But some companies call it by the generic Dupont name, but alot if knives use it for knife handles, I even think my Potbelly, Parangatang, Swabbie and Zomstro are made out of the so called Grivory under the generic name (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) ?, though. ,,, ,,, ,,
Brian - another great video. I am quickly becoming a big fan of your videos in a short time of discovering your channel. It's refreshing to see someone still getting excited about a knife (as I do :-)) Really liking this SCHF42 - definitely on my hit list, and I am not a big outdoors guy. I have the SCHF26, how would you compare if you have used that one as well, do you still like this one better? Love the look of this one - Brian Griffin did a great job. Almost looks like something Mr. Onion would have put out (big fans of his stuff).
+Survival On Purpose I blame Schrade for their budget minded/good quality offerings. You just can't "cut it" for the price. They listen to their customers and make changes as necessary.
Hey Brian, maybe you guys should put this blade through the Gauntlet? Alot of Schrade doubters out there, and seeing this blade hold up may silence them when it comes to this product. Thanks again mate!
Survival On Purpose Awesome Brian. I saw that blade on Preparedmind101, and it has those brown grivory handles with a brown leather sheath. The Gauntlet really helped the Gerber Strongarm get over the critics. I think the Gauntlet would help Schrade as well. Thanks for the reply!
Hey Brian, would you choose the schf42 (normal recurve, not the other one) over the schf52 (The large survival knife) if you had something else (be it ax, hatchet, machete) for wood processing? and why?
Hi, Bryan. Everyone really seems to like this new 42. That being said, are there any aspects of this knife that you feel could be transferred to the 9 or 36/37 that would improve them to this level. And if so, could that ever happen? Great video, thanks.
Jamie Hitt It's hard to say because they are all three a little bigger knives. It's kind of like comparing guitars. A Les Paul and a Stratocaster are very different but both are wonderful ;-)
Hi, Love the videos, I like it that you told the length of the knife in cm. I like the knife overall but I don't like the idea of it no having any guard. But I am hesitating between this knife and the SCHF51. Please tell me your advice it would be very important to me.
+JD MD They are both great knives, in my opinion. The 51 is a lot thicker, heavier and beefier. If you want an all purpose, survival knife it wold be a good choice. On the other hand, if you prefer a more nimble knife better suited for fine tasks as well as most camp chores, the 42 might be a better choice. In the end it is all about what you want the knife for.
Ooh thank you. I understand much more now the use of those knifes thanks to your reply. I think I am going to choose the SCHF51 because it is a all around knife and maybe for next Christmas I will get the SCHF42:). Thanks for the feedback, very quick too. I wish you the best of luck! JD
Grivory is basically a fancy word for plastic lol. Awesome video as always, Bryan. I'm definitely going to get one of these after seeing yours and Chris' (PREPAREDMIND101) videos on it.
Bryan, how grippy is that Grivory handle? My hands are always extremely dry, so some knife handles are slippery in my hand, wood handles especially. I have to wipe wood handles down with Fix'n wax to make them tacky enough for me to use. Thanks...
Love to see some reviews on lesser known or lesser reviewed brands. Seems like schrade and tops have cornered the RUclips market. Camillus has a made in the usa bushcr after knife. I've seen some other knives from knives of Alaska as well that I want to see a quality review of. Have you reached out to any other companies? This seems like solid advertisement for the price of their knife... Pretty good roi if you ask me.
I have reviewed knives I bought and have more in the line right now, I am trying to spread my budget between knives and other gear. The Schrade videos are confined to Saturdays and I plan to continue them for a while. Feel free to ignore them if you don't like them. I'm not blowing you off, just being honest. I will tell you I get it and there is a plan in place to address your concerns in the near future. I hope you'll stay tuned.
I really like your channel. I was all set to get a schf 36 then this video came out as well as the schf 51. Which do you recommend for a novice bushcrafter?
Every time I think I've found the Schrade I want next. I see another that I like. I'm gonna have to get a second job to pay for all the Schrades that I want.
Nice review, sir. Just two questions: 1) Did you do any touch up to the blade before putting it through its paces? 2) What are your thoughts on coated blades( which seems to me at least to be a trend nowadays)?
Johnny I. 1) Straight out of the box 2) I don't really like most of the coatings, especially the really rough ones. I don't so much mind the smooth ones. This is probably the best coating Schrade uses.
Look forward to your response. Been watching your reviews on the schrade line ups and would like to buy this one but unfortunately no one where I live carries them. So I'm stuck with buying online. Hate doing that as I like to feel a knife before I decide to drop my cash on it. With that said, I am ordering the schrade axe. Watched your review and I was sold. Thanks.
The small version of the axe was the most popular tool with my Boy Scouts this weekend. They would rather chop than saw ;-) And the handles did fine on the SCHF42 in the rain. Well, not totally in the rain, but in between rain sessions.
I agree. Brian Griffin did a great job on these
Great review, sir! I have broken one schrade before, but their schf series has impressed me, especially this particular blade.
Brian, your video is the reason I bought my SCHF42, and it is now my favorite knife. Thanks for the review/work that you do.
Thanks Anthony. Isn't it a nice knife?
Survival On Purpose yes it is. I also picked up the EZE Lap sharpening rod....I use it on my schf42 and schf9.
This knife review always made me coming back to this channel . Even after 8 years This is one of my fevr8 knife & Nostalgic review.
I still have this one.
👍👍👍@@SurvivalOnPurpose

I have to agree I have met 2 of the Taylor brothers and they are really passionate about their customers.
I've been testing and reviewing mine. Great design.
***** Smooth like butter.
Very cool Brian! That curling effect is awesome!
Thanks
Have to check it out after watching your an Tactical's vids, I have begun using schrade knives again. Totaly Love the PHW, the 56L, an the 36. The first too I edc all the time. +Ben F. I really like this knife design.
LOL!!! I've done the same thing with my ESEE & BHK's!
When I get them before I can use the, I just fondle them!
Glad I'm not alone Bryan!
The Yankee Woodsman Whew! I thought t was just me :-)
LOL!
Very cool, Scrade is making a come back!!! They sure have the social media think down now... And they are putting out some great products!!!
Yes they are.
Well, you talked me into it again. Just ordered the 42. I am looking forward to it getting here.
I predict you're going to be happy happy happy
+Survival On Purpose I just love, love, love this knife. It's everything you said it was. Very comfortable, and a wonderful all purpose blade. Thanks for the tip.
Good review Bryan. I like it too. I also like the new opening of your videos. Be well, stay safe. Keep 'em coming.
John Hufnagel Thanks John.
Great review, that Griffin Design love it my SCHF 9 is getting jealous, now. Those look much more comfy on this model. Thanks for showing us.
Lt Survival This is one of the most comfortable handles I have ever held Louis.

stella carp I am serious that I really like this knife. Seriously.
Bryan,
Sometime when you get a chance how about giving a tutorial about knife throwing. I would enjoy that as I do your other work. The SCHF 42 looks great. Thanks for all you do.
Utah Jim
Jim Howerton I would never advocate throwing a knife, but did you see this one? ruclips.net/video/3Yh7uH-tthI/видео.html
Survival On Purpose Thanks Bryan for your time and work. I enjoy it a lot.
keep up the great work.
Utah Jim
Thanks Jim.
Out of all the Schrade knives this looks to be the best, a buddy just won one and I am itching to get my hands on it. Thanks for the review Brian...atb-Brody
T&B Kuntry Strong Thanks Brody. It is a really nice knife.
big fan of you and schrade i just got the schf9 now we going to get the 51 and my hubby wants the 42 nice videos i subscribed watch you all the time

I agree, beautiful knife. I love the sheath too. The handle reminds me of the BK2.
Yes it does. I have been using mine tonight while camping and it rocks!

That knife is looking great and one I would have wanted, but I already have one of their survival knives and love it.
Cool
Great Review and much appreciated. This one is now on my list.
+Prepared Suburbanite (Armequen) It is a great knife
Hey Brian good review...looks like a really nice knife. Enjoyed the review thanks.
Ed
***** Thanks for watching Ed.
Survival On Purpose you are welcome...hey if you don't mind sub my channel please...take care Ed

I like to baton wood and, sense I use a sharpening rod, I like being able to take advantage of a recurve edge.
You would like this one
Thanks man. Nice watching your videos. Good man.
Thanks for watching them.
You have a fan in Germany :-)
Cool.
This will be a winner for Schrade great review
stkesq48 I think so too. Thanks.
Ditch that recurve in favour of clip or drop point and I think schrade would have a best seller in that knife's category. Great review as always and keep safe.
new2survival I bet it sells like crazy anyway.
Been getting into recurve knives lately, this one is definitely on the wish list :)
+Ryne it's a good design.
1095, impressive. Good job Schrade.
Caleb Whittington Yes it is. Thanks.
bought this knife on your review its an awesome knife nice weight cracking sheath cant fault it.
Still one of my favorites
What a great Review I'm new to Bush Crafting and I think I just found my knife thank you for the review I like it a lot we knew you was going to throw it lol

The term PPA is used when 60% or more moles of the carboxylic acid portion of the repeating unit in the polymer chain is composed of a combination of terephthalic (TPA) and isophthalic (IPA) acids.[2] As a member of the nylon family, it is a semi-crystalline material composed from a diacid and a diamine which means PPA is formed by the reaction of aromatic acids with aliphatic diamines. However, the diacid portion contains at least 55% terephthalic acid (TPA) orisophthalic acid (IPA).[3] TPA or IPA are aromatic components which serve to raise the melting point, glass transition temperature and generally improve chemical resistance vs. standard aliphatic nylon polymers and reduce water absorption.[4] If more than 55% of the acid part of a PPA is made out of IPA, then the copolymer is amorphous
In recent years, polyphthalamides have been commercialized by several polymer resin manufacturers which are under the trade names Amodel, Grivory, Ultramid T, VESTAMID HTplus, Akromid T and Zytel(r) HTN
Andrew McGibbon Like I said, it's some kind of synthetic substance ;-)
That a sweet looking knife Brian thank for the review
willy bailey It's a sweet handling knife too. Thanks for watching.
I wonder if Schrade makes other similar sized knives with flat grinds or even scandi grinds.
looks like a really nice knife for bushcraft
Turtle Bushcraft I think it is a nice knife for anything.
I have been hunting for these knives for years since the model was discontinued. Do you by chance still have yours? If so would you be willing to part with the schf42 and/or schf42d?
I can't wait to get one.
Kigai11 you'll be happy, happy, happy.
Nice. Got one on the way.
Ruster Kat You'll be glad.
Nice blade. Impressive knife throwing skills.
***** Throwing skills? Me?
Thanks for this review, and all your other ones as well. I thought your idea for the "fat wood" handle on your fero rod was excellent. The two go together like peanut butter and jelly in my opinion. You might have a marketable product there sir? Really neat when you scraped off the extra to start the fire with. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Robin.
Impressive quality. And it deserves a better sheath. In my opinion a better buy than the TOPS BOB.
Nice knife it is making how I t jumps out of your hand and soars across the yard. It must be magic.
Stanley Sprow Almost like it has a mind of it's own ;-)
Great video, Love mine, one of Schrade's best!
+bill R I agree.
does it hold a good edge though? i need a good belt knife, ive been using a wildcat warrior but its more of a good looking fashion statement than a knife to work with.
and i aint payin more than a 50$ bill for a knife.
I will do a follow up after I use this one for a while and let you know. Stay tuned.
Rat 3 or 5 is a grate knife as well but i do like the look of this one my self
I have an old bone handled schrade sharp it is comfortable this one looks better its been over 20 years since I got the sharp. this looks like a nice knife
Jeff Bankston It is a nice knife.
Brian, appreciate the passion and enthusiasm however hold the knife still! Great Review! Nice knife.
Thanks
an awesome sharp fixed blade the SCHF52 and the SCHF52M what an awesome pair .....
Great knive good review I like that fire rod where can I get one
The_kid I made it from a firesteel.com ferro rod and a piece of fatwood. Here's how I did it: ruclips.net/video/umryvulwrVM/видео.html
Very nice, I do like the sheath
Dean O Simple and classic.
By the way, Brian, the Becker BK's use Grivory for their handle material, I really like it. Cold Steel also used it on some of the older folders, But some companies call it by the generic Dupont name, but alot if knives use it for knife handles, I even think my Potbelly, Parangatang, Swabbie and Zomstro are made out of the so called Grivory under the generic name (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) ?, though. ,,, ,,, ,,
+paulie 4x It is tough stuff
+Survival On Purpose Yes, It's pretty good.
I have to admit I like the 42 better
Nice one Bryan.
paulie 4x Thanks.
Straight edge with a Kydex sheath would be awesome!
Straight edge, kydex or thermoplastic sheath and a Scandi or saber grind and you have the perfect knife
MatoNupai Or at least a different knife ;-)
Rob Cook There used to be a commercial that said "Try it, you'll like it". I'm just sayin'...
bloody nice mate
That's a cool knife. Think I'll buy it.
It sure is.
You're turning me into a knife fanatic!
+Jeremy Nelson I accept no responsibility
+Survival On Purpose I blame Schrade for their budget minded/good quality offerings. You just can't "cut it" for the price. They listen to their customers and make changes as necessary.
You finally got my interest and I can't find this knife anywhere. Don't you have an extra laying around you want to sell?!
Brian Brake Not right now. I think I'm gonna keep mine. Don't worry, they'll be available soon.
Got me one of those, it is really really nice.
lets get some custom scales out there for this one.
cheers
BB
+Blazin'Blades Somebody made some fro Chris over at PrepoaredMind101. I'll see if I can find out who.
Hey Brian, maybe you guys should put this blade through the Gauntlet? Alot of Schrade doubters out there, and seeing this blade hold up may silence them when it comes to this product. Thanks again mate!
+Survival Solutions I like mine too much ;-)
Survival On Purpose Maybe one of the other guys can ask Schrade for one and pass it around?
I actually just got the non-recurve version. We'll see what we can figure out.
We did Chris' knife but it is so unusual it probably doesn't count.
Nice blade, great video.
Overgrown I appreciate it.
It would be great without that damn re-curve! Nice handle though. Put this handle on the 37 and you've got a winner!
A lot of folks really like the recurves. They kind of grow on you.
Alright I'm sold! I'll order one tomorrow.
You'll like it.
Hey Brian, would you choose the schf42 (normal recurve, not the other one) over the schf52 (The large survival knife) if you had something else (be it ax, hatchet, machete) for wood processing? and why?
For general use yes, becasue it is a very well designed knife and very comfortable to use.
My wife is going to love seeing another knife in the quiver.
+John Carey What wife wouldn't? ;-)
A Les Paul and a Stratocaster are very different but both are wonderful ;-)
when will it be on your website?
That's a pretty ringing endorsement Bryan. I've never owned a knife with a re-curve. How hard are they to strop and sharpen?
Jeb & Joe Outdoors I use a diamond rod and it works fine.
How does this compare to Mora Bushcraft Black?
Hi,
Love the videos, I like it that you told the length of the knife in cm.
JD
I couldn't find this one in your Amazon store.
Chris Stinson My store needs some attention. Try this: survivalonpurpose.com/Schrade-SCHF42
Grivory is basically a fancy word for plastic lol. Awesome video as always, Bryan. I'm definitely going to get one of these after seeing yours and Chris' (PREPAREDMIND101) videos on it.
I just know it is comfortable.
Truth. I haven't held this one yet, obviously lol, but I've held the Ka-Bar Becker knives and their handles are awesome.
Bryan, how grippy is that Grivory handle? My hands are always extremely dry, so some knife handles are slippery in my hand, wood handles especially. I have to wipe wood handles down with Fix'n wax to make them tacky enough for me to use. Thanks...
+Woodenarrows I wouldn't call it "grippy" It does OK but it is pretty smooth.
I actually did approach somebody other companies a while back but I didn't have much success. Maybe i'll try again now that my channel has grown.
I'm not at liberty to discuss details at this time.
I L-O-V-E that knife,nice blade
+Terry Henry It is still one of my favorites.
I really like your channel. I was all set to get a schf 36 then this video came out as well as the schf 51. Which do you recommend for a novice bushcrafter?
Paul Pall I prefer the SCHF 51 because of the improvements. Just be aware it is a hefty knife. I think it is a solid choice.
Every time I think I've found the Schrade I want next. I see another that I like. I'm gonna have to get a second job to pay for all the Schrades that I want.
James Hawkins Be sure to check out their Facebook page. They give away a LOT of knives over there.
Nice review, sir. Just two questions:
1) Did you do any touch up to the blade before putting it through its paces?
2) What are your thoughts on coated blades( which seems to me at least to be a trend nowadays)?
Johnny I. 1) Straight out of the box 2) I don't really like most of the coatings, especially the really rough ones. I don't so much mind the smooth ones. This is probably the best coating Schrade uses.
Brian, how do you think the handle will work when wet. Hard to see how much texture is on the handle. But thats a real nice looking knife.
That's a good question, I need to check that out this weekend. I'm going camping in the rain :-)
They would rather chop than saw ;-)
And the handles did fine on the SCHF42 in the rain. Well, not totally in the rain, but in between rain sessions.
Can you do a video on how you made your fat wood handle ?
Anderson Potter ruclips.net/video/umryvulwrVM/видео.html
Fat wood handle for the ferro rod. That's a good idea!
I picked that up somewhere
Man that's is a sweet knife, I really like it.
