Ian Hunter with Mick Ronson opened for Heart at Cobo Hall in Detroit in 1980. The consensus at my high school after the show was that Ian blew heart off the stage. It was a helluva show back then and I enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot hear any of Ian’s songs without being transported back to how I felt after seeing him live then. I am so glad to come across this footage of him and the band from back then!

I saw this band perform on a Rock show late at night on TV in upstate, NY, USA, when my folks were away; in a small town called, Amsterdam. This would have been turned off for Johnny Carson or whoever else was on the tube at the same time on a Friday night. I was too young to go anywhere and Fridays, I was lucky to have the tv to myself for a little while. They played only one song. But it was a great song that I looked for it in the record store. It did not come out for a long time, and I wanted to hear more music like that. That station showed me a band that traveled to another country to play music. How amazing is that? It inspired me to play, but my career choice led me down another path. I love the piano man's energy and the lead singer's comments about the show. "I am ...and I just shared one hour of my life". I am Mikolis Sargalis and I just shared a memory with you. Enjoy more.

Bom .....

Two of the reasons to win WW2 was to give the Germans democracy & rock n roll music. They, Beat Club & Rockpalast kept so much performances on tape & not wiping it as Britain done that we can enjoy it & they let us see it freely. Danke schon mein herr & mein fraus.

Love this. Like a lot of commenters it was etched into my teenage mind. I was totally into the sound of electric guitars.
One revelation though: the major role of the keyboards.

Ronson was such a giver to the world of music, he helped Bowie get where he wanted to go and then went on to help promote so many other musicians. And was never in the music business only for himself.

My hometown was not scheduled on Ian's "Rant" tour, as it's midsized and in the midwest. But, when he discovered that he sold more copies of his new record here than anywhere else in the US, he squeezed us in and put on one of the best shows I've ever seen in a venue that holds about 250 people. He probably didn't make bank that night and that just shows his loyalty to his fans and our love for him.
    Thanks, Ian!!
    RIP, Mick.
