I appreciate how thorough you are here. No one talks about stuff like the non polarized screen, or exactly how their AWD works, or how Hyundai makes their own steel and so has more of it than most cars. I learned a lot!
From an owner of two Sonata Hybrids over the past 8 years the best thing about the hybrid is that the technology puts the electric motor between the engine and transmission. This allows for gear shifts to happen instead of the typical cvt groans. To me it feels more spirited to drive. My 2014 Sonata Hybrid has never needed brake pad replacement and probably never will and the odometer is currently at 118,000 miles (US.) All I've ever completed on this car is the basic scheduled maintenance. The stronger sheet metal is also very apparent. I had a toyota for a company car for a year and after driving the two brands the Hyundai feels so much more solid.
@@MechayaAlta based on the reliability of previous hyundai hybrids, I'd say yes, it's right up there. As a matter of fact, Hyundai doesn't use a cvt in their hybrids like Toyota does. The hybrid battery isn't large enough to keep things going all night, so the engine would be kicking on to supplement power. I wouldn't recommend it.
Excellent review. One of the best I’ve seen. I’m on my third Santa Fe . Never had a problem. Currently have a 2018 Santa Fe Ultimate Sport. Recommend people take a look at Hyundai. No, I do not work for Hyundai. Hyundai management very good to work with. Just nice people. Dealerships are good to work with.
Amazing review! very detailed. I love the push button transmission for a couple of reasons; 1) The way of the future for all vehicles, 2) I love the demo of the vehicle going into "P" by itself.
VERY impressed with your knowledge of this car! You know things many other sales folk will NOT know and showing the unique features is what sets this car apart. REALLY nice job.
Awesome review! I noticed this trim has the 8" screen instead of the 10.25" and no blind spot view monitor on the dash when you used the turn signals. Is this the top trim of the hybrid or will there be a higher trim offered that includes those features? Thanks
Interested if i should wait for the plug-in? What would be the main differences and when in stock to review? I own 2009 Santa fe (3.3 v6) and did not like the 2.4l 2021 gas only i test drove (engine-wise) but loved the new look and infotainment. Did both hybrids also come with Harmon Kardon setup? Thx if can help...
It's a 2.5 in the 2021 non hybrid. Main difference of course will be the ability to drive on pure electricity for a while, but it'll also have more power and better acceleration thanks to a bigger electric motor. I won't see one until second half of the year though. Not sure about the Harmon kardon system.. Stay tuned for the next review, going to try to check out the trend hybrid soon.
Many thanks for your very useful reviews of these Hyundai products. I live in the Greater Toronto Area and note that we have some very large Hyundai dealerships yet they do not make any significant effort similar to yours for potential customers.
Great video man!!! Really appreciate it.. One quick question: this vehicle doesn’t have 10.2 inches touch screen but the trim in us does. Can we get touch screen upgraded in Canada? Cheers!!
Unfortunately no, The larger screen is only in the calligraphy trim, which isn't a hybrid. It's just too integrated to be able to swap it. However, consider the Tucson Hybrid Ultimate.... That has everything, plus a really cool new design!
Great review, thank you! I’m going back and forth between this model and the Santa Fe Calligraphy, I just like the extra bells and whistles that it has. Random, but I love your coat, where did you get it/what brand is it?
Haha thx man. I bought the coat at Sears actually. When they were blowing everything out due to closing, totally lucked out on it. Got it for like 60% off, but it was still $230 😳 Not sure what brand it is at the moment. If I remember, I'll check tonight when I get home
Been deciding between this and the tuscon. Did not realize this has the thigh extender! Also the spare tire is a huge plus for roadtripping. Thanks for the Canadian content. The option packages are so different for hyundai kia
Which did you go with? I’m trying to decide too. Tucson got much better mpg, but I don’t like that there are no buttons nor knobs, and all the storage spaces seem pretty minimal. The Santa Fe got all them buttons and all those nice storage areas, which I find makes the Santa Fe much more functional 🤷♂️ I can’t decide lol with the shortage of cars, I can’t even test drive them together to see which feels better. I’ve only driven the Tucson. Have you driven both? If so, how did they feel on the drive?
Awesome review, do you if the drivers side sun visor extends ? Also I'm waiting for the phev, would love to see you do a review on the phev when they become available. That's a huge wrist watch you're sporting.
Thx! The Luxury comes with the basic system. Only the top trim has the Harmon Kardon system. But honestly, even the basic standard system sounds great.
Terrific review! Waiting for them to arrive in Texas Dealerships. My only complaint as I research the vehicle thus far is that I wanted heads up display, red exterior color as well as cognac interior. None of those three options will be available on the hybrid in the US. It appears that the Limited Trim will be the highest available with the hybrid and colors are limited.
Thx for the comment! Yeah, it's funny how different the trim levels are from Canada to the States. Odd that there's no hud though? It's in the top trim here, although, that's not a hybrid 🤷
Great review. I'm waiting for 2022 hybrid plug in. Is Tucson hybrid as good as this? I don't need luxury features like moonroof, but I need towing capacity for a 2000lbs trailer.
I actually prefer the Tucson. Better cargo capacity (very surprisingly) newer look and feel, newer platform. The Tucson Hybrid towing capacity is 2000 lbs. Check out my Tucson ULTIMATE review: ruclips.net/video/zNKKWoU3q6c/видео.html
Can you comfortably fit three child seats across the back row? I just want to say that I appreciate that the seatbelt for the middle seat comes out of the seat and not out of the ceiling. Makes a huge difference.
Hi Ed, appreciate your responsiveness. The issue I have is that I only have a cell phone that is provided by my Office (no personal phone), that restricts and blocks my ability to download anything. Is there any other way, like a dongle or something that I can buy and attach to have a smooth transition to the VR button? BTW, I have subscribed to your channel :). Keep up the good work Ed!
I've watched a number of RUclips videos like this because I'm interested in Santa Fe Hybrid. I don't know why reviewers don't tell the audience the color of the car or the interior color. And at 2:23 you said you'd show us what the car looks like with the lights on...but it never happened. Finally a question. Is the Android Auto wireless?
Hi Berry, Thank you for the comment. I missed the lights thing, my apologies. It just slipped my mind. I don't generally name the colour, because depending on the country you're in, the colours are often a little different, or they're named differently. I'm in Canada, and many of my viewers are from the USA, and I often get this question and the ensuing confusion, so I've learned to be cautious in that regard. In Canada, the colour is called magnetic grey and the interior was just black leather.
Thanks for the great review you are very knowledgeable on the feature’s this car has to offer.I just hit subscribe to your videos and would like to see one with the 2.5 turbocharged motor that is the one I am interested in.Thanks again.
Thanks for that very instructive video. One question for you if I may: how do you select conventional cruise control on this vehicle(Canadian version). With the winter season in Canada, do you think (or believe) that once the front car sensor is covered with mud and snow, that the adaptive cruise control and FCC will still work?
It's interesting, because Hyundai generally let's you disable and modify everything... BUT you cannot disable adaptive cruise. I think the reason they chose to not give you the option, is because if you're used to it having adaptive cruise control, the possibility of rear ending someone when it's turned off is going to be high, as you'd be expecting it to slow down. But you are correct in the assumption that it won't work if covered in snow. It will put a warning up on the instrument cluster that the system is temporarily disabled.
Thanks for your quick answer. So, another question comes to mind regarding the adaptative cruise control. Could you explain to me: Why is it, that the American version (Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid) CAN switch between adaptative cruise control and conventional cruise control (press cruise control button and press and hold distance limiting button for 3 seconds and, select either conventional or adaptive cruise control from the instrument cluster) and NOT the Canadian version? (I found out about this while regarding videos on Hyundai’s adaptative cruise control (smart cruise control) on RUclips’s website). Again, let me thank you for your time and effort to answer me the best you can. I am one of your most dedicated follower. KEEP UP the good work! 👏👍
@@richardpage6024 thx again for the comments! Well, I'd love to be able to answer that question, but I honestly don't know. I am now, however, going to try that as I wasn't even aware of the ability to do it 😬
Fantastic review! Does this car have any parking assist features? Also are there multiple camera views available besides rear? I believe the 2022 hyundai tucson has the side camera views pop up on the dash when the blinker goes on. You really sold me on this car regardless!
Thank you for the comment! If you're in the USA, then you'll have access to the limited in the hybrid trim. Here in Canada we only have the hybrid in a luxury. However, the top trims: Canada: Tucson Ultimate with or without hybrid. Santa Fe Calligraphy (no hybrid option) Both have smart park and surround view with blind view monitor. USA, Tucson limited, hybrid or not Santa Fe limited, hybrid or not Also have smart park and blind view monitor w/surround view. I know... Clear as mud 🤷 But I hope that helps!
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for answering this question. I had the same question. Sucks that 55k car doesn't have that turn signal camera. And i don't understand why the difference between US and Canada models. I'm in canada and was looking at luxury plug-in hybrid. Can't buy calligraphy since no hybrid. I guess i have to live without it. Hyundai site doesn't have an option to pay extra to get them on luxury plugin hybrid.
Hey Ed, I would like to see a driving comparison b/w the 2.5LT and Hybrid, the Turbo looks like it is fun to drive with the additional torque, do you lose a lot of acceleration with the Hybrid? Really how effective can you overtake on the highway in the Hybrid?
With the extra torque from the electric motor, it's actually pretty good. It's better then the 2.5na... so it's in-between the two other engine options.
I just test drove both the 2.5T Calligraphy and Hybrid Luxury. The 2.5T is much faster, much higher accelerations! But also much noisier when accelerating, and even slightly noisier at cruising highway speed. That being said, the hybrid was fast enough and even has a few features the Calligraphy has not. It has not much power to spare, so I suspect it would feel slow if loaded with 5 passengers or with the trunk full.
Ed's Garage I really enjoyed the review, and it has helped in my discussion of determining my next vehicle to put on my list of top picks. By the way I noticed the bracelet on your rist. Are those shungite stones?
I think they're volcanic rock. I put lavender oil on them once a day... Apparently that's supposed to help with anxiety, although it doesn't seem to have done much for me lol 😅
Hi Ed. Great review. Have a couple of questions for you regarding the sound system. I test drove a Santa fe (preferred trim) here in Ontario recently and the Sound system was very dull. The sales man did not have a Luxury trim available but told me the speakers on the Luxury are better than the preferred that I drove, that the luxury had the same as on the calligraphy (Harman Kardon) but just with less speakers. Is that correct? or are the speakers on the luxury the same as the Preferred? In general, what is your opinion of the sound system on the Luxury trim? Thanks a lot !
Thanks! The sound system on the Luxury is identical to the Preferred. There's no difference. It would benefit greatly from a subwoofer. Things may change for the 2023 model, but there's not currently any information on the 23 Santa Fe hybrid. But i highly doubt there's any changes
@@edsgarage001 thanks ! that is what I thought. I think my salesman was just not carrying every bit of info on the Santa Fe. Honestly I did not like the sound of those speakers, I tried to adjust the settings a little but still. Will look into doing an after market upgrade to at least add the subw once I get the vehicle (already put a deposit, of course no date) and hope it does not void the warranty. The order I placed is for a Luxury Hybrid. White exterior and beige interior. Now debating if I should switch to the Black exterior (want to keep the beige interior)
Hi Ed; I was wondering if there is a incentive through the government on this particular hybrid? I know Ford had dropped it for Ontario but Federal Government still offers one.Just wondered if the dealership looks after it? Thanks
Sorry for the late comment, I'm looking at the PHEV, Santa Fe, but no dealerships have any on the lot to look at. I assume the PHEV and hybrid will be the same, so maybe you can answer my question; In the second row, are there 3 car seat anchor points, and is the bench wide enough to fit 3 car seats?
There's no anchor points specifically for the middle seat, however people just use the inner anchor points of the outer seats, or the seat belt. But yes there's definitely enough room for three car seats across. The back seat in the Santa Fe is one of the widest in the industry.
@@edsgarage001 thanks for the reply, do you know off hand if there are 3 top anchor point on the backs of the seats for the top tether points of car seats, or are there just 2 for the main seats
Great review, our uk model is a 7 seater, seems lot of wasted space in your version but I think you have the 7 seater palisade or something, also our "ultimate" top spec model has a much bigger widescreen top dash display and nearly 40 buttons on the centre consol.amazing the difference the different country's specs are
@Ed's Garage that's true, for a normal sized family that boots superb with that storage.ive ordered a silver one,it's around a 9 to 10 month wait due to the semi conductor shortage but want it for our new registration next match so should be fine.the amount of stuff thar car has for the money is superb and can you imagine what bmw and audi would want for the extra blind spot camera on the dials.theyd rip you off yet I've not even seen them have that in their cars yet I might be wrong

I've not always been the biggest fan of youtube suggestions but this showed up and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked this review but I wish he'd been able to give us HP and torque. Also whether or not the hybrid can be had in the Calligraphy trim. Regardless it was really well done.
Thank you for the comment! It's got a combined output of 226 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Calligraphy hybrid isn't available this year in Canada. However, in America it is, as the limited trim.
Do you have the choice of wireless Apple Car Play or Car Play only available wirelessly. I only ask because BMW also has wireless Car Play which sometimes went funky and was a challenge when it stopped working in the middle of long roadtrips. (Had to stop and restart the car after 10 min and resetting everything)
For being self taught you knocked it out of the park. Thanks for the details. One point related to the safety on able to speak over speaker to those in back seat so one does not have to take eyes off of road.
Thanks for the prompt reply and clarity. How does one use the Voice Recognition button without the Android Auto/Apple Carplay? I do not use the Android or Apple Auto and just want to use the Voice Recognition button to access my Telephone and Media handsfree.
No problem... First i need to know.... Why not use the apple carplay/Android auto? For basic functions, you don't need a data plan if that's your concern.
How does the 8-in infotainment system compare to the larger one of the Calligraphy trim? Besides being smaller, is it slower, less responsive? Maybe a few less features with Bluetooth, navigation, etc?
We have been buying Toyota for 35 years, We are switching over to Hyundai on our next purchase. The Santa Fe is replacing my 2007 Base Highlander (I gave to my daughter). It's similar in size and will fit in my garage perfectly the way I have it set up. Toyota doesn't come close to the comfort and conveniences the Santa Fe has. I looked at the Rav4 and Venza which are good cars but they don't offer the features the Santa Fe has.
I test drove a 2021 Calligraphy 2.5 Turbo. I clearly felt every bump in the road, even little stuff. Also very jerky acceleration and gear changes. CR"s initial report is very similar to my impressions(CR comment came out after my drive). My current 2007 SF rides smoother. Does the Hybrid have the same suspension? Does the ride feel more or less the same? Obviously the acceleration and shifting will be different.
I didn't notice that in my drive, but I don't think the suspension is any different. To be honest, I find it quite smooth, but I drive a car normally 🤷
@@edsgarage001 normally...? Was that the end of the comment? If you drive it again, try poor pavement or tracks, all cities including Vancouver have them :) . Again, did the ride feel the same as the regular SF? I tried a 2021 Pacifica Hybrid; notably smoother ride. Different animal, a bit more expensive, yes, but more versatile.
@@rickochs4271 yes that was the end of the comment. Lol... But what I meant was, I normally drive a car, not an suv. Cars tend to be a bit bumpier then suv's Not always obviously, but mine's just a compact Ioniq EV car with torsion beam suspension in the rear. The lower trim levels of the Santa Fe are a bit smoother on the road, just due to fatter tire walls. But the luxury and calligraphy both have 19" wheels.
@@edsgarage001 Yeah, I'm not a fan of big wheels, generally seem contrary to a smooth ride. Top line Palisade and Telluride have the same issue with me. Awaiting hybrid SFs to arrive in St. Louis. BTW, excellent review, thanks.
Totally agree. How much more can the larger screen cost, really ... The large screen looks so much more 2021! I would have paid 100$ more without hesitation!
In USA they include it in almost all trims (except the lowest one). For sure, in 2022 Hyundai Canada will upgrade all trims with this better screen and your 2021 will immediately look outdated!
Do you know if the Hybrid or at least the Plugin Hybrid has an electric heater? Otherwise it means you will have to keep the thermic engine running to warm up the car during winter.
The Ioniq plug in hybrid has no problem heating the cabin at all, but it does fire up the gas engine initially to speed up the process, which is actually the most efficient way to do it. I imagine the Santa Fe PHEV will do something similar.
@@edsgarage001 But gas engine first need time to warm up itself. However I understand from your answer that the Ioniq plugin would use both (electric/gas).
It has wireless android auto because of the 8 inch display. The Caligraphy model has a larger display but no wireless android auto. Do you know if it will be enabled in future?
It's the Venza even still available? Personally I like the innovation of the Santa Fe. But they're both good options. Hyundai has the better warranty though! 😊
Leg room is awesome, I didn't even have the front seat all the way back. Honestly, every Hyundai vehicle has great front leg room as they make really long seat rails.
In Canada, 5/100000 on most stuff 8/160000 on battery and hybrid drive In the USA 10/100000 on most stuff (I think?) Lifetime on battery (I think) I'm in Canada 🤷
HI ED - DOES THE HYBRID WORK LIKE THE RAV4 HYBRID, THAT IS, DOES THE ELECTRIC ONLY SETTING ONLY WORK AT VERY SLOW SPEED AND THEN THE ENGINE CUTS IN AT EVEN MODERATE, ACCELERATION? HOW FAR IN KLMS/MILES CAN YOU DRIVE ON ELECTRIC SETTING ONLY AT NORMAL ROAD SPEED? IS THE POWER WORSE THAN THE RAV4 - AS THE RAV4 HAS A 2.5L ENGINE AND THIS HAS A 1.5L ENGINE? HOW MANY ELECTRIC MOTORS DOES IT HAVE, ONE AT THE FRONT AND ONE AT THE REAR LIKE THE RAV4 AWD?
Woah.... Ok, I'll try to answer everything here. So, no, very different system. Remember, this doesn't compete with the Rav 4 prime, but it competes with the regular Rav4 hybrid. But the Santa Fe is significantly larger, so it doesn't really even compete there either. The Tucson Hybrid actually competes directly with the rav4. The Santa Fe has a more powerful, 1.6 turbo and a 6 speed automatic. (No silly cvt like the Toyota) -there's no EV only setting on the regular hybrid, but there will be on the phev. -it will automatically switch to EV mode whenever it makes the most sense. It can do so at speeds up to 120kph/80mph -again, as this is not the plug in hybrid, there is no real "range on EV mode" so we'll have to wait for the plug in variant to answer that question -it has more horse power and torque then the Toyota Rav 4 hybrid. Rav 4= 219 hp, 221ft torque Santa Fe = 225 hp, 259ft torque -the Santa Fe hybrid actually has a 1.6 liter TURBO charged engine. -it has one main drive electric motor. One motor/generator that takes place of the alternator and the engine starter motor 😁 -the Santa Fe has a true HTRAC all wheel drive system. It does not use a rear electric motor like the rav4. The HTRAC system performs far better then the rav4 system (check out TFL's slip test of the rav4... It fails miserably) Hope that helps. Thx for the comment!
THe frameless rearview mirror has the 3 HomeLink buttons on the bottom of the mirror. At night, I cannot figure out why they dont light up! My 2017 Sonata and 2019 Elantra have Homelink buttons light up when the lights come on. Is there a way to light up the buttons on the 2022 Santa Fe Limited Hybrid?
In Canada, there are two hybrid trims. Can you highlight the main differences between the two trims? I know the Preferred trim has no digital cluster. Anything else significant?
I'll be doing a video on the trend hybrid soon. But in the meantime: www.hyundaicanada.com/-/media/hyundai/showroom/2021/santa-fe/brochure/2021-hyundai-santa-fe-product-card-en_mar.pdf?modelId=762b9321-00da-4f2c-8ed0-727ed8f1d288
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for the link, I thought there was no information on Hyundai's website (still no mention in the "Build and Price" section). Note that the hybrid I test drove had a spare tire while the brochure says otherwise. Strange.
No, the power folding mirrors and forward parking sensors are only on the calligraphy trim. However the luxury does have a forward camera, which is part of the 360 camera system . Thanks for the comment, please consider subscribing! 😉
Curious what will be different/similar when the Hybrid comes to the U.S. Difficult to get a clear reading on the fuel economy but it looks like you were jumping around 29-39+ MPG. And that was city driving in a brand new car - but I wasn't sure how accurate that is when there is no GAS in the tank. In either case - looking forward to seeing the specs when it releases here in the States. Enjoyed the review ~ wasn't expecting the bald head. haha
@@edsgarage001 Correct. From what I’ve seen our Hybrid has two options. - SEL and Limited. I’m just hoping that they throw in a couple more features that the non-hybrid limited doesn’t have. Plus I’m hoping that confirmed EPA avg is about 37. You’re the second person to mention that number as an estimate. So I’m optimistic. In either case - we’ll find out soon enough. We should see our Hybrid come out in less than a month and a 1/2.
Is the luxury trim includes the cameras for blind spots? I went to a test drive in Quebec's dealer and it was not in the model I tested, unless there is a special package to take? let me know thanks
I just got one today fully loaded. It makes me think That the gas gauge is broken; it doesn't move; it hardly drinks gas. This car is one of the best Hybrid SUVs there is.
I would say it's about the same as the old turbo. But the new turbo has much more horse power and torque, and it's connected to an 8 speed wet clutch transmission. So of course the turbo is going to be quicker.
@@19mati67 not yet, at least not in the hybrid. We're only getting the hybrid Luxury trim level. Our non hybrid with the turbo does of course have the large screen stereo.
My car has a Voice Recognition Button on the steering wheel, that works ONLY if connected to either Android Auto or Apple Car Play. My phone is an Android. Hence my dilemma of not being able to use the Voice Recognition (VR) button for either calling via my phone or selecting radio or USB media. I HAVE to be connected to the Android or Apple Car Play to use the VR button. How ridiculous it is especially when its a 2021 model! I am looking at a way around this dilemma.
So I think the easiest solution for you, would be to find an old cell phone that is no longer being used and just leave it in the vehicle, hidden away in the center console or glove box. You could even leave it plugged in. Ultimately the best solution would be to inquire with your company's tech support to get Android auto functioning with your work provided phone. It's not so ridiculous to be frank.... Pretty much everyone carries a cell phone these days, and most aren't in the same situation. Plus, the Google assistant will always work better then any automobile manufactured vr system, so it's the preferred choice for most drivers. Personally i can't remember the last time i used my vehicle's built in system 🤷 It's also possible to utilize Android auto with no data connection. You can even download Google map sections to use for navigation. Android auto has many basic functions that work without data, so a second phone left in the vehicle will do what you need it to. If you lived nearby, I'd suggest coming in to see me so i can show you exactly what to do.

That wireless charging well is an accident waiting to happen! It's a great place for food and beverage to spill into. Let's hope Hyundia will add a cover in future models.
For food, it has a little flap about halfway down to stop anything getting too far. As for drinks... Well, people should just be more careful lol. In 25 years of driving, I've never spilled a drink in my vehicle, drives me crazy when my passengers are willy nilly with their beverages. 😅
Canadian, eh! Haha 😂. OK my fellow countryman. I noticed the calligraphy model is a gas engine and not hybrid. Gosh can't get it all in one package after all
Both great options... Though the rear drive motor on the Venza is weak and the cvt isn't as nice of a drive feel. Those two reasons alone would make me opt for the Santa Fe. But the infotainment system in Hyundai's is also significantly better. Plus Hyundai has a much better warranty. But to be honest, I'd get niether of them, instead, I'd go for the much lower priced, but newer 2022 Tucson Hybrid! ruclips.net/video/zNKKWoU3q6c/видео.html

@@edsgarage001 I finally watched the video and figured that out! Some really good tips that I have not seen from other reviewers of this vehicle. Good job!
@@edsgarage001 exactly, these wheels are designed for savings in fuel, all hybrids have funky wheels imo... i like the interior of the Santa Fe and the exterior of the Sorento
I like it, but find it strange that they don't offer a rear cargo cover. Without a trunk, leaving everything out in the open like that is not a good option for big city dwellers. In 'Frisco, your windows would be broken rather quickly for anything valuable that was left in plain sight.
Privacy cover is about $200. Many car companies are dropping the accessory as a cost savings measure. As a matter of fact, the Santa Fe has not included one for at least the last 6 years
First off, this is a feature review... Not a, hey let's pick apart this vehicle's repair costs. What belt are you even referring to? There's just an accessory belt, and it's about $150 to have replaced by a dealership. At least, that's what we charge here 🤷
@@edsgarage001 wrong the serpentine belt is spun by the hsg to start the motor as part of the hybrid system. Apparently you don"t know jack shit about the cars you "review."
@@robjohnson4963 woah there bud, calm down. I'm fully aware of that. Granted I called it an accessory belt. Woop d doo. As a matter of fact, I've actually replaced the belt and tensioner assembly on my wife's old saturn vue hybrid. So I'm actually very familiar with it. While I didn't make a video on that, I did on a different small fix on the same vehicle : ruclips.net/video/O5A9MjWGOo0/видео.html Look, my point is, my service manager said it's about $150 to replace. @@robjohnson4963 well here's the thing... The Santa Fe has never even had a hybrid option prior to 2021... So there shouldn't be anyone needing a belt yet. But I'm currently standing over the engine bay of one right now.... If the dealer you're at can't do this job in under an hour, then go to another dealer. Remove air cleaner assembly (takes maybe five minutes. Remove motor mount to gain better access (maybe 10 minutes?) Compress tensioner spring, pull belt off. Reverse procedure. Done. I could do this at home without the right tensioner tool in under an hour. Ultimately, this is something that needs replacing maybe 3 or 4 times in 10 years? It's not my place to go over the replacement cost of a brand new vehicle's hsg belt 🤷 that doesn't even make sense. Where does it stop? Do I cover the cost of other potentially expensive repairs?? It's a vehicle, they cost a lot to maintain, but Hyundai has always been one of the lower costs to do so, even winning awards by Kelly blue book because of just that! Every dealer charges different amounts (guided by Hyundai, but ultimately it's up to the dealership). Your original comment, "why don't any reviewers tell the truth about Hyundai/Kia hybrid belt change costs"..... I never lied about it, I never mislead anyone about it... I NEVER EVEN BROUGHT IT UP!!! I'm sorry man, but I'm not sure what you're expecting. But if it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't even take my vehicle to a dealer for repairs. I'd either do it myself (which I do 99% of the time) or take it to an independent shop. 🤷
My impression, Keep it in Canada!!! Compared to the USA Limited HEV... No 110V outlet No smart parking no 10.25" NAV Not the same digital dash as the Gas models No 360 degree camera No rear view in the digital dash when changing lanes It does have quilted upholstery (Nappa?), spare tire, mud and sand mode Each country marketing changes must keep the Korean factory busy......
It's very likely that we will eventually get the limited version here as well (it'll be called Calligraphy here though). But for now, we just get the two trims. Honestly, this trim in the non hybrid sells exceptionally well in Canada, so that's probably why we're seeing it already.
@@edsgarage001 I think he's referring to the Sorento Hybrid compared to the non hybrid. Kia left off some pretty significant bling off the Hybrid version.
As someone looking to buy one of these. This was legit the most detailed reviewed. Someone should hire this man.
Haha, thanks!
I appreciate how thorough you are here. No one talks about stuff like the non polarized screen, or exactly how their AWD works, or how Hyundai makes their own steel and so has more of it than most cars. I learned a lot!
Thx for the comment! I love product knowledge ☺️
I couldn't agree more!
Thanks for your comment!
Is the Hyundai hybrid technology as reliable as Toyota? Can I let the engine run all night in a camp type mode?

Fantastic in-depth review indeed. You sold us on the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid!

Amazing review! very detailed. I love the push button transmission for a couple of reasons; 1) The way of the future for all vehicles, 2) I love the demo of the vehicle going into "P" by itself.

Awesome review! I noticed this trim has the 8" screen instead of the 10.25" and no blind spot view monitor on the dash when you used the turn signals. Is this the top trim of the hybrid or will there be a higher trim offered that includes those features? Thanks
I wish I knew, unfortunately Hyundai hasn't released much info yet. But I do believe this will be the top trim for the hybrids. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Cheers!!
Unfortunately no,
The larger screen is only in the calligraphy trim, which isn't a hybrid.
Got it for like 60% off, but it was still $230 😳
Not sure what brand it is at the moment. If I remember, I'll check tonight when I get home
So the coat was made by Esprit, and it's style number "EM242276C"
hope that helps! 😊
Yes both visors extend.
I'll do a review on the phev as soon as we get one ☺️.
As for the watch, it's an Awatch GT.

Nice review!! Which speaker system do they have in this luxury hybrid model

Can you comfortably fit three child seats across the back row? I just want to say that I appreciate that the seatbelt for the middle seat comes out of the seat and not out of the ceiling. Makes a huge difference.
The Santa Fe has the widest back seat in its class! 😊
Is the phone an iphone? If so, it requires no download. Should work.
I'm not sure what you mean by smooth transition to the vr button 🤔
Great review Ed, lot's of good info on the hybrid Santa Fe for us California guys.

Keep in mind, I'm in Canada they're a little different here
Great Review and extremely well explained. Does the Luxury Hybrid also have a Front Camera and Folding External Mirrors?
Great video. Does this have the adaptive (ecs) sunspenssion and if so will it make a dirrence regarding comfort with the regular sunpenssion?
No adaptive suspension
I've watched a number of RUclips videos like this because I'm interested in Santa Fe Hybrid. I don't know why reviewers don't tell the audience the color of the car or the interior color. And at 2:23 you said you'd show us what the car looks like with the lights on...but it never happened. Finally a question. Is the Android Auto wireless?
Hi Berry,
Thank you for the comment.
Thx for your comment!
I'll be doing a video on the Calligraphy trim soon
Great questions!
And thank you for the comments!

Well, I'd love to be able to answer that question, but I honestly don't know.

Great Review. Do you know if you can get Head Up Display (HUD) on the Hybrid limited?
I'm sorry, I'm not sure. I'm actually in Canada, and we don't get that level trim here.
However, the top trims:
Canada:
Tucson Ultimate with or without hybrid.
Santa Fe Calligraphy (no hybrid option)
Both have smart park and surround view with blind view monitor.
USA,
Tucson limited, hybrid or not
Santa Fe limited, hybrid or not
Also have smart park and blind view monitor w/surround view.
I know... Clear as mud 🤷
But I hope that helps!

For basic functions, you don't need a data plan if that's your concern.
How does the 8-in infotainment system compare to the larger one of the Calligraphy trim? Besides being smaller, is it slower, less responsive? Maybe a few less features with Bluetooth, navigation, etc?
It lacks navigation, however it gains wireless carplay and Android auto. The interface is a bit different but it responds just as quickly.

Great review. Just bought this model.

So why didn't they put the Larger Infotainment screen in the Hybrid? Or at least give you the option...?
Totally agree. How much more can the larger screen cost, really ... The large screen looks so much more 2021! I would have paid 100$ more without hesitation!
In USA they include it in almost all trims (except the lowest one). For sure, in 2022 Hyundai Canada will upgrade all trims with this better screen and your 2021 will immediately look outdated!
Do you know if the Hybrid or at least the Plugin Hybrid has an electric heater? Otherwise it means you will have to keep the thermic engine running to warm up the car during winter.
Good question. The CRV with it's 1.5T is known to not heat the cabin enough in Winter. Will this Santa Fe have same problem?
The Ioniq plug in hybrid has no problem heating the cabin at all, but it does fire up the gas engine initially to speed up the process, which is actually the most efficient way to do it. I imagine the Santa Fe PHEV will do something similar.
@@edsgarage001 What do you mean by speed up the process?
@@TofSag speed up the process of heating up the cabin.
An electric heater would be very slow compared to the waste heat generated by the gas engine.
From what I've heard, they're working on it
It just needs snow tyres on it and it will be good to go

Hey Ed what are the warranties on these hybrids?
In Canada,
5/100000 on most stuff
8/160000 on battery and hybrid drive
In the USA 10/100000 on most stuff (I think?)
Lifetime on battery (I think)
I'm in Canada 🤷
HI ED -
DOES THE HYBRID WORK LIKE THE RAV4 HYBRID, THAT IS, DOES THE ELECTRIC ONLY SETTING ONLY WORK AT VERY SLOW SPEED AND THEN THE ENGINE CUTS IN AT EVEN MODERATE, ACCELERATION?
(No silly cvt like the Toyota)
-there's no EV only setting on the regular hybrid, but there will be on the phev.
-it will automatically switch to EV mode whenever it makes the most sense. It can do so at speeds up to 120kph/80mph
-again, as this is not the plug in hybrid, there is no real "range on EV mode" so we'll have to wait for the plug in variant to answer that question
-it has more horse power and torque then the Toyota Rav 4 hybrid.
Rav 4= 219 hp, 221ft torque
Santa Fe = 225 hp, 259ft torque
-the Santa Fe hybrid actually has a 1.6 liter TURBO charged engine.
-it has one main drive electric motor. One motor/generator that takes place of the alternator and the engine starter motor 😁
-the Santa Fe has a true HTRAC all wheel drive system. It does not use a rear electric motor like the rav4. The HTRAC system performs far better then the rav4 system (check out TFL's slip test of the rav4... It fails miserably)
Hope that helps.

So apparently, the hybrid in America will be based on the limited model. So a little more feature rich then what we've got. At least for now.

Awesome! Congrats!
what location is that and which dealership
I'm in Chilliwack British Columbia, at Mertin Hyundai.
How if feels acceleration wise, compared to the turbo?
I would say it's about the same as the old turbo. But the new turbo has much more horse power and torque, and it's connected to an 8 speed wet clutch transmission. So of course the turbo is going to be quicker.
@@edsgarage001 In Canada, you guys are not getting the big screen "radio"?
@@19mati67 not yet, at least not in the hybrid. We're only getting the hybrid Luxury trim level.
Our non hybrid with the turbo does of course have the large screen stereo.
Nice job!
Thx!
Personally i can't remember the last time i used my vehicle's built in system 🤷
It's also possible to utilize Android auto with no data connection. You can even download Google map sections to use for navigation. Android auto has many basic functions that work without data, so a second phone left in the vehicle will do what you need it to.
If you lived nearby, I'd suggest coming in to see me so i can show you exactly what to do.

When does the Santa Fe hybrid hit the showroom?
Depends on your location.

Hi Ed; Can you get a hybrid or the plugin in the Calligraphy model? Thanks
Not in Canada, but it the USA you can get it on the top trim, the limited.

2000lbs max
@@edsgarage001 I ask because you can tow with the CRV gas model, but supposedly not with the hybrid. Toyota also says no on the Venza hybrid. Not really sure of the reasoning on either of those.

Excellent review! Thanks !!
Thank you!

I’m torn between hybrids ; Santa Fe Limited versus Toyota Venza Limited
Both great options... Though the rear drive motor on the Venza is weak and the cvt isn't as nice of a drive feel. Those two reasons alone would make me opt for the Santa Fe.
But the infotainment system in Hyundai's is also significantly better. Plus Hyundai has a much better warranty.
But to be honest, I'd get niether of them, instead, I'd go for the much lower priced, but newer 2022 Tucson Hybrid!

Beautiful wheels eerrrr....
I honestly do like them, I think they look better in person. But hey looks are subjective
As a matter of fact, the Santa Fe has not included one for at least the last 6 years
And don't forget, there's the under floor storage organizer that is quite large. So valuables can be readily kept there as well.
I bought one yesterday
Congrats!
@@edsgarage001 Thank you
Missed the sliding rear seats????
No, that feature was pretty much dropped in Canada when they redesigned it in 2019.
Why don't any reviewers tell the truth about hyundai/kia hybrid belt change costs?
While I didn't make a video on that, I did on a different small fix on the same vehicle :
ruclips.net/video/O5A9MjWGOo0/видео.html
Look, my point is, my service manager said it's about $150 to replace. But in any event, why the heck would I bring that up in a video about the vehicles features???
@@edsgarage001 Because to not apprise the ignorant and stupid that constitutes the majority of our population about the rip off of hyundai hybrids is disingenuous. And in my area, cause I contacted my local hyundai dealer its 250 plus parts to change the hsg belt.
Remove motor mount to gain better access (maybe 10 minutes?)
Compress tensioner spring, pull belt off.
The sound needs improvement...the video was not always the best either especially on the road test...
