Honestly I like the idea of half gas half hybrid instead of full hybrid, hope hyundai keeps this up and I may go for it once I paid off my discontinued 5 seater sorento
Nice review, love it. One question thought if I may. How do you switch from adaptive cruise control to regular cruise control due to dirt amount during winter season on the front sensor?
Yeah, two of my favourite vehicles to film lately are the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento. They're class-leading vehicles that are great in so many ways. The Tucson is about to have a redesign, and I'm hoping to see that as early as this month.
Which one would you recommend the Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid or the New Tuscon Hybrid? Since the Tucson got a bit bigger I can't seem to decide which one I would go for.
Yeah, it's a tough choice! I'm not very good at telling other people what THEY should buy, I'm very good at showing the specific details of each vehicle. It would depend on your priorities. Even though the Tucson is larger than it used to be, it's still smaller than the Santa Fe. There is also a difference in the way these two drive, and the seats are different. Sometimes it's as simple as seat comfort, or 'a feeling" that you get when you're driving one, over the other. When I first drove the Santa Fe, I decided that, for sure, would be the one for me, but the Tucson is already more than I need for my family, so I could see myself buying either one. If they're both equal to you, but you share the vehicle with someone, sometimes that person will have a strong opinion one way or the other, and that could help you decide as well.
Solid economy numbers in that SUV, tons of space and saves on gas, great package. I appreciate the honesty about the 'strange things' that happen to cars before they're bought! ;)
Haha!! Hey... rule number one, never pay attention to mileage numbers! Sometimes you'll have people sitting in a car with it running deciding if they're going to purchase it. Sometimes you'll have a salesperson running the vehicle to warm up or cool off the interior. It will be run through a car wash, potentially multiple times before it's sold (idling every time!) You'll have people take it on a test drive, and stop across the road from us at a church parking lot and spend 20 minutes looking at the outside of the car with it running! Strange things indeed!
Buy both!! Haha! I haven't driven the Sorento Hybrid yet (we film in Canada, and we haven't received that model yet, but we'll get it soon) Once I've driven the Sorento Hybrid, I'll be in a better position to let you know about some of the differences from my perspective. Feel free to subscribe, I'm expecting the Sorento PHEV as early as the next couple of weeks.
Actually, I do not think that it is the one to buy. Wat about those who want a Santa Fe hybrid in an Ultimate/Limited trim? At the moment, only two trims are available in Canada for the hybrid and they are quite similar. Neither offer, however, the upgraded 10.25 inch infotainment system or an upgraded sound system which is available in the States. It would be nice to be able to consider a Santa Fe HEV or PHEV instead of only having the Toyota Venza or Lexus NX (lower trims) to choose from.
just took delivery of 2021 Santa Fe Hybrid Limited AWD... please tell me how to (legally) reduce/eliminate the volume on the absolutely unbearable reverse "warning" beeps/alerts (it is louder than the trash/recycling trucks). We may literally utilize 3-day return policy if there is not a solution.
I believe that noise is required by law. I don't think it's all that loud, at least it wasn't on the vehicle that I drove. I do believe that it is a legal requirement, but I'm not certain on the rules around it.
Yes, it does have HD FM (Check your local CBC NEWS station.... . I now have this car( luxury HYbrid) and It averages 7.2L/100 km which is great for this size of vehicle. Just one thing.. I have not figured out how to turn-off ISG(Idle top and go).. A feature that I think is essential in Canadian winters when you want heat from the engine to warm the cabin. Can you help and let me know how to do that..? there doesn't seem to be any button....
The hybrid system will not turn the car off if you have the climate set to require heat, it also won't turn off if the vehicle engine is not sufficiently warmed up. There's no button to change this on this car because the car can sort of take care of itself. I think you'll find that when you need heat, you'll get plenty, and the vehicle turning it's gasoline engine off will not be an issue for some of the things that you mention.
hybrid santa fe is awesome; great review and thank you for showing that under floor storage...a lot of channels out there really skip that feature; big selling point! any word on the phev santa fe/sorento coming to canada? i hope these are still inbound to canada! can you imagine that under floor storage being converted to a battery pack for awesome range :D did teddy get a raise for getting hired with hyundai brantford??? hahaha
Yeah, the Santa Fe Hybrid has quickly become one of my favourite vehicles of the two brands. Great space, good luxury, nice tech, and exceptional mileage while still driving very well. There is still no official word on the Sorento Hybrid, but I would expect it at some point. Oh, and Teddy's always been the better compensated member of our duo!
Can you fit three child seats across in the back row? I think it'd be a great addition to these videos to talk child seats, especially for "family oriented" vehicles like this.
Totally agree... and I will say that you CAN fit 3 child seats across, but it's going to depend on your child seats. I've seen 3 across in a Kia Soul, so this car has more space than this. You may need to change brands of child seats in order to make it work.
What are the 0 - 60 comparisons between the three engine options? What are the differences between the first row between the palisade calligraphy and Santa Fe calligraphy editions?
So... funny thing about 0-60 times. Manufacturers and some publications often quote true times, but traditional magazines generally quote a rolling start. So for comparison purposes, you'd have to look online. I don't have that information at hand, but keep in mind that if you find the answer for one, make sure that you find the same source for your information. I plan to compare the Palisade and Santa Fe Calligraphy in the near future, so I'll make sure I show that. We do have videos of the new Sorento and Telluride where we compare the third-row seat, so feel free to search our channel for that if you'd like.
Can this small engine heat the cabin fast enough in winter? I'm discarting the CRV for this exact reason (it's small 1.5T engine takes forever to blow warm air in the cabin!)
I'm going to be honest... it's my opinion that the issue with the CR-V is not that it's engine is too small to heat the vehicle, it's that Honda appears to have not properly planned for that small engine to heat the cabin. I don't have a lot of concerns with this vehicle. I think the Hyundai/Kia engineering teams would have taken that into consideration when developing their vehicles. I would be shocked if you saw that problem with any of the Hyundai/Kia lineup.
I didn't see that function, and I was looking for it. The PHEV models will have all-electric range, but I didn't see a button for that option in this model.
Haha! I've been asked this a few times. The issue that I have is that the tone doesn't always replicate well on video, and the volume doesn't replicate at all. Maybe it's something that I should add to the process.
No, this is a different vehicle. I really prefer this one over that one, and I'm not just saying that because I work for the dealership. I think it's a better car. You should definitely compare the two!
I'm pretty bad... But keep watching RUclips, I promise you'll find worse! Also, I just checked out your channel. It has 7 views in 9 years. I'm not sure that you're in a strong position to criticize.
Just got my Santa Fe 2021 Hybrid Limited with brown interior! Love it. The driving comfort is superb.
I have to admit. The first time I drove this vehicle, I was VERY impressed with it! It's a great car!

Yeah, I think this is a great option.
The batteries for the hybrid system are underneath the back seat bench. So you donde lose trunk space.
Nice review, love it. One question thought if I may. How do you switch from adaptive cruise control to regular cruise control due to dirt amount during winter season on the front sensor?
Due to dirt accumulation amount…
I love the new Santa Fe and Tucson. I like the wheels on that Santa Fe more than the lower trims wheels

That's on the higher trim. This is the Preferred, if my memory is correct.
l am also worried about potential rattle noise coming from the back seat railing system. Did you drive it to confirm these seat are firmly fixed?
Yes, I drive every car that I make a video on. This car is really solid. It was very quiet inside with no squeaks or rattles at all.
