Thanks for the great review. The bloopers are HILARIOUS!! About the Hyundai, as a 58 year old, I agree that the demographic for the Santa Fe is aimed at an older more traditional buyer, but as one of those buyers --- I like the switches, buttons, and the styling. I like the chrome trim - I am definitely not one for the horrendous "murdered out" all-black trim and wheels that's so prevalent today. Hyundai NAILED it with this hybrid Santa Fe.
I'm a 69 yo retiree in NY . No more commuting or long trips , except to visit Grandkids 2x a month at 250 miles to and from.... The Hybrid, which I have never had, seems to make the most sense. So , with currently driving a 2019 MDX Advance, leased to June 2022 (I probably trade this car in and still have "equity" with only 18K on the clock in excellent condition), I'm wrestling with some SUVs to go with: This Santa Fe , the 2021 Sorento SX (non- Hybrid & Hybrid [are you sure that the Hybrid Sorento does not come with HTRAC?), the 2021 Tuscon and maybe a new Blazer(?). I don't need a 3rd Row (I don't know why people and Reviewers make such a "thing" about 3rd Row seating ...do people really use that feature aon any real regular basis?), you guys seem that you REALLY like the Tuscon better, Am I Correct? God Bless, take care, appreciate your comments. Great reviews which deliver Real life useful info to consumers.
how much to buy out the acura at the end of lease vs buying new anything? 18 k like new,if not troublesome why buy anything new. You dont drive enough to really benefit from hybrid anything.IMO
In the US the Sorento hybrid comes ONLY with FWD. The forthcoming PHEV Sorento will have AWD. As far as the 3rd row seating is concerned, my family of four (2 adults, a teenage daughter, and a big dog) deploy the 3rd row in our Sorento rarely. But when we transport a gaggle of teenage girls or need seating for more than 5 passengers on a local outing it's a HUGE convenience compared to using two vehicles.
I made a comment on my 2021 Santa Fe Hybrid two years ago but this past two years it was giving so many issue and this past summer I took the courage to sell it back to the dealer because they wanted to charge me because they said if they cannot diagnose the problem therefore I will be charge. I am glad and now I am worry free.
I can't imagine people not bothering to plug in when that is what you bought it for. I like the concept of plug-ins. My normal daily driving could be done with electric only for the most part. I am a former Santa Fe owner(2013) and I enjoyed it. Will wait for the plug-in.
Waking up to these videos on a Saturday morning is great:) I love the button cluster of the gas Sante Fe as well... and that of the Tucson the least. Having said that I’d still take the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid ( and it’s 10.25 infotainment) over the Santa Fe. :)
We’re ordering the Santa Fe SLE hybrid today. I like how much more legroom it has versus the Tucson. We have a RAV4 and the gas mileage is dismal. While the mpg in the Santa Fe may not be better than the other hybrids you mentioned, it is better than what we get now. If you want more cargo, go with the Tucson. If more seating space, then the Santa Fe. Thanks for the review.
Are you planning on testing the new Ionic 5?It's looking like a great car that will sell big.The Kia EV 6 also looks really good as well so that would be an interesting watch.Thanks.
3:20 I think you're right about Hyundai's strategy. Santa Fe looks sophisticated while having just enough of an edge, which appeal to the Boomers down to the 40 y.o. millennial, while Tucson's got that edgier vibe that appeal to the under 40 crowd. I like the design language of both the Tucson and Santa Fe! Thanks for another awesome review!
Maybe I'm the exception, but I'm 61 and I just bought a Tucson. I traded up from a '17 Santa Fe. I don't really like the looks of the current Santa Fe, and with the same powertrain as the Tucson, it seems underpowered.
Awesome video and great vehicle! I like the way Zack make you laugh, way a go Zack! 😆 Gas mileage on the highway is the same as my 2010 Tucson! That’s cool! 👍🏻
Great job! One thing seems to be missing,What about safety? What is standard safety items in each level? Please mention this in your reviews! Thanks! You both are great!
The touch buttons for climate and what not are a hard no. Why car makers think it’s a good idea I’ll never know. Old or young you can’t beat physical buttons.
My wife and I just purchased this car in the US. We love it. We got black with the beige interior. I have a question. When starting from stop or when rolling along at idle and then suddenly hit the load petal - does it hesitate? Mine's done that a few times. It's as if it can't quite decide which engine is on duty. After a second, maybe two (it always seems longer) off we go. Switching gears, I wish I could find seat belt extenders. I not real fat but I'm almost 80 and not as flexible as I once was. I dreading struggling with them come winter. (MN) Thanks for the review.
I own the Tucson but I also like the Santa Fe hybrid and I am older. They both look great but I have fallen in love with the Ioniq 6. Whats a compulsive car buyer to do??
Many thanks for your review. I am considering getting the 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy Hybrid AWD. Can this SUV be driven on a somewhat long trip (six or seven hours) driving around 70 or 75 mph on a freeway? Is the battery continually charging from the engine during such long-distance driving? Thank you.
Sounds like the Tucson Hybrid wins on mileage and fun to drive, over the Santa Fe Hybrid, but how would you compare the fun to drive factor vs the santa fe turbo.? That is the one I am liking so far but havent tried either of the hybrids. I am liking the Hyundai products style and performance more than the traditional Hondas I would have gone for.
They are very different. The Hybrid provides a smooth ride and quick acceleration. It almost feels like you are driving a pure EV. The turbo engine on the Santa Fe is a lot of fun, there's plenty of power and it has a refined drive. You feel more of the road when you drive it. Both are very good but different.
At 6:22 you say that the smaller Tucson has more cargo space, but in the U.S. anyway, that's not the case. The Tucson has 31 cu ft with 2nd row up, and 61.9 cu ft with 2nd row down. The Santa Fe numbers are 36.4 and 72 cu ft respectively. Did you mean to say that the *square* footage is more, i.e. the distance from the tailgate to the back of the 2nd row seats is greater in the Tucson? I honestly wish someone would report square footage, because I don't stack stuff up to the ceiling, so I'd rather have more square footage than cubic feet. Thanks for the informative reviews!
I think that for the most part Hyundai has solve a good job at improving their beans recognition within the past decade. They've won awards in various categories & a lot of people get their cars despite their engine recall issues with older engines. I just hope going forward they don't have more engine recalls
You either go for electric or gas. Hybrid is a complex system and when it is broken very expensive to repair and takes long time. It is not like electric motor is down but I can use the gas engine. That's something to keep in mind with Hybrid vehicles!
The weird thing is that in Holland the hybrid and phev are only available in the higher trim levels with a 10 inch screen. There are no seperate packages just different trim levels.
I live in the U.S., & bc of the current gas prices, I actually was considering getting the Tucson Hybrid Limited or the Santa Fe Hybrid Limited trim bc of the current gas prices in the U.S. I wish I could get the plug-in hybrid version of either but they're not sold in FL atm. I also love the Santa Fe Calligraphy trim but the current gas prices kind of make me apprehensu to lease that bc of how much gas is per gallon, even if it only needs 87 or 89 grade gas. While I love both of them, I personally like the Santa Fe a little bit more bc it has physical buttons & knobs which the Tucson Limited trim doesn’t have. I also like the beige interior available on the Santa Fe Calligraphy trim & Hybrid Limited trim which you can't get on the Tucson
Ok so I have to ask the question. I know you guys didn't like the smaller screen and lack of buttons in the Canadian Santa Fe. I wouldn't either frankly and that would make it an easy pick for the Canadian Tuscon Hybrid. So, same question, The US Model with the bigger screen and all the buttons; which do you pick ? The Tuscon Hybrid or the Santa Fe Hybrid? Top trims and both US models.
I really enjoyed the driving dynamics of the Tucson, it was more fun to drive. If you really need the extra space, the Santa Fe is the way to go. I do like the buttons in the Santa Fe but to be honest I just got used to not having any buttons in the Tucson. I think the screens look great in the Tucson, so modern and clean.
@@andreaspencer9813 I thought that would be the case. He really liked the button layout and screen in the Calligraphy video. I can't believe someone made this decision for the Canadian market. What the heck were they thinking. Oh let's take this futuristic hybrid model and get rid of all the buttons and large screen. *woosh*
The California Stat of 20% of Electric car owners, went back to gasoline or regular Hybrid vehicles is very interesting. I'm resistant to all Electric cars , even though a startling stat I heard yesterday is mesmerizing: The new Ford All Electric Pick Up Truck just announced that Ford has 20,000 Orders already !!. Even Plug In Hybrids, require Plug In stations in your house, and with numerous Brown outs and Black outs we experience in NY (Westchester County), makes me resistant to consider... But, I was Resistant to CDs when they came out in the early 80s...." This is a Fad that won't last". Boy was I wrong..
The reservations actually jumped to over 50,000 last I saw. I love that Ford Lightning, but I want to know what the base model looks like because it is in my price range. I imagine it's not that great...
Plug in Hybrids don't need a special plug in station in your home. Just a standard 120V outlet. The car will come with an AC adapter that is basically an overgrown version of what you get with a laptop computer. Generally speaking a full charge on 120V will take 8 hours, so as you sleep overnight. So I really don't understand the people who never plug them in, unless they live in an apartment complex where you can't have the charger strung out. In which case, they really should have bought a regular hybrid instead. An additional note... even full EV's don't *require* anything more than a 120V outlet, but the charge time gets really silly unless you have a L2 charger. Refitting a decently modern house to accommodate a 240V L2 charger isn't actually a big deal, since it's usually just adding one more outlet and circuit breaker to the house. Older houses? That's a whole different story.
We have a Honda clarity plug-in, hardly go to the gas station with it. We will take our minivan when we take long distance driving for the extra space and comfort.
Hyundai actually is a company people can trust even if there background of Hyundai is in building world class marine transport ships . One thing is for sure they do not make anything that will not last , bad quality or shitty product. They are just not as far developed as Toyota in the automotive industry yet. World class company . We should only expect nothing less then constant improvement in automotive industries by Hyundai.
Hyundai making it hard to ignore. Trying to decide whether to go EV or hybrid, buy now or wait for new EV advancements. Traditional higher end products like Lexus, middle range like Toyota, etc. I want good mileage and comfort. Won't buy Tesla Model Y because of the screen only display and controls. And their quality sucks. Fortunately I have 2 well working cars and can wait for the right option to come along.
Both the Tucson and Santa Fe are both great cars. It is a shame that the Santa Fe does not come in the Limited trim. This is particularly so if you go with a PHEV which reduces the fuel costs on the Santa Fe closer to those of the Tucson. Since the Venza does not come in a PHEV version, they are two of the few PHEV vehicles to choose from in Canada.
Very few reviewers comment on whether the second row is on tracks and slides for- aft in 2 row SUVs. I looked at the blue version of the Santa Fe hybrid a few weeks ago in the US and it did, and when folded down was totally flat . Today I’m going to see a Tucson hybrid and measure that out as well. I’m a retired senior , vaccinated, and ready to travel. I wish the Venza was larger inside than the RAV4, similar to the Santa Fe, or that the new Sienna had removable second row seats. In addition, am I the only one who hates panoramic sunroofs?
@@eulie717 I really hate them too. I liked the "urban" package the gas only engine gives you and was hoping you could do the same with either hybrid. Seems they are forcing the trend package on consumers that gives you the roof. I dont want that much glass over my head.
Another great (and timely) video from Andrea and Zack - thanks guys! 👍 A couple of weeks ago I reserved a 2022 Tucson Ultimate Hybrid that's forecasted to arrive at my local Hyundai dealer in early June. After reserving the Tucson I began wondering if I should have gone for the Santa Fe Luxury Hybrid instead. After watching this video I'm convinced now the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid is the right way to go. The decision would be more difficult if Hyundai Canada were to offer a loaded "Ultimate" version of the Santa Fe Hybrid. I'm guessing the Ultimate Hybrid model will be offered on the 2022 model-year Santa Fe.
Congratulations on your new Tucson Hybrid! I think when Hyundai fixes its trims on the Santa Fe Hybrid, it will be a more difficult choice, but you made the right one with the Tucson Hybrid, it has way more options. Thanks for watching!
@@andreaspencer9813 Thanks Andrea, I agree with you 100% re the trims on the Santa Fe Hybrid. By the way, the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid I have reserved is finished in Amazon Grey with a two-tone Black/Light Grey interior - the identical vehicle to the one you guys reviewed. 😀
@@richardb9591 I think that light grey interior is beautiful and great exterior colour too. Sometimes it looks green and other times grey which is kind of nice. Enjoy it! I would buy one in a second, that is how good it is.
Hi Eric - Yes, I took delivery of my/our '22 Tucson Ultimate Hybrid on June 12th. My wife and I love it! I reserved our Tucson at a local Hyundai dealer after the vehicle had already been built and was on the way, so I didn't have to wait very long to get it. If you were to order a Tucson Hybrid, I suspect a realistic expectation for wait time would be 10-12 weeks. Good luck on all fronts.
Great review Guys. The other thing regarding fuel range would be the gas tank size difference between the Santa Fe and the Tucson. If you have to constant buy gas due to a small gas tank, the mpgs will only take you so far....JMHO
With Kia/Hyandai redesigning model's every 2-3 years I'd imagine it would be more difficult to get parts on these in 5-10 years (especially aftermarket). Also curious how long term reliability will be on these. Low resale value currently would say not great but only time will tell with these new models.
I totally get the regular transmission but honestly I only noticed my cvt hybrid when I punch it and that’s not often especially when music is up But also only 6 speed?? Seems lagging in gears compared to non hybrids but a plethora of gears compared to a cvt lol
(The twin-engine Twin Inline-4/6 Turbocharger petrol turbo with Hybrid/electric motor) engine would be better suited to the Hyundai Santa Fe HTRAC model... perhaps as early as the end of the year when Santa Fe receives the 2022 facelift upgrade/update. 🤔
I don't think you have deep insight of PHEV advantages. just like MHEV, you can reduce the size of the engine but also PHEV's battery is big enough to run the AC, and more than 22-70km distance depends on the model can be driven without an engine. Canada and USA have really really cheap petrol so maybe it doesn't seem much differences but not in Europe or East Asia. Vehicle tax, highway toll fees, parking fees, etc also make huge differences. Canada doesn't have any "Green Zone" yet but this is becoming more common in Europe and some parts of Asia, you either cannot drive into certain areas with conventional combustion engined vehicles or you get "environmental/congestion charges" per time you enter the city unless your vehicle is BEV/FCEV or PHEV with different minimum distance coverage. Depends on the region you live in, electricity is too expensive (ex. Germany) that it's simply not economical to have EV but some areas have cheap and sufficient renewable sourced electricity. Also, PHEV has that instant torque of EV + good fuel efficiency (mixing between or both motor and engine) + way more fun (electric power pack battery provides power to electrically boost turbo chargers to reduce turbo lag). I love driving in city area with electric mode, and drive like AMG on highway. Porsche made 918 spider, Ferrari made La Ferrari, McLaren made P1. More and more sporty brands are replacing 12V battery to 48V, or adopting PHEV for "super performance" such as new AMG 73 or panamera hybrid. Canada is really slow with transition from other developed nations. PHEV is going to be more realistically popular and affordable than BEV, especially with the current chips shortage, battery shortages, rising price for raw materials of battery, etc

Yes to real buttons, knobs and switches. Half the year is winter, and gloves are on.
When do you think you get the 2021 kia sportage?
Really thinking about getting one
Really enjoyed your review; both are great; but Andrea is just a beautiful point of view to listen to.
Hi yall just watched your first video and am a fan already, keep doing the great work!! ❤👌
Thank you so much!!
Awesome, thank you so much! Glad you found us!
Great review guys but strange packaging, Hyundai needs to fix that. Andrea you are so smart, how do you remember all those facts and figures. Amazing!
Thank you so much! :) I am pretty good at remembering things. :)
I can't imagine people not bothering to plug in when that is what you bought it for. I like the concept of plug-ins. My normal daily driving could be done with electric only for the most part. I am a former Santa Fe owner(2013) and I enjoyed it. Will wait for the plug-in.
Waking up to these videos on a Saturday morning is great:)
I love the button cluster of the gas Sante Fe as well... and that of the Tucson the least. Having said that I’d still take the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid ( and it’s 10.25 infotainment) over the Santa Fe. :)
Thank you so much!
When they arrive in the press fleet we will for sure.
@@andreaspencer9813 Can't wait to see that big smile when you try them out.
Hi i have a question 🙋♀️ if you would choose what would you like sta fe hybrid ,rav 4 hybrid or sportage hybrid ?
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed the review. Yes, Zack can definitely make me laugh!
@@andreaspencer9813 That’s good! 👍🏻👍🏻
I wish they still put diesel and electric on it. So the fuel economy will be astonishing.
Greetings from Indonesia... 🙏🏻
Subscribed.
Great job! One thing seems to be missing,What about safety? What is standard safety items in each level? Please mention this in your reviews! Thanks! You both are great!
We have the Santa Fe Limited Hybrid and love it. Lots of technology. AWD is important in the Midwest
I love everything about your channel and your reviews!!! Solid…👍🏽
Yay! Thank you!
Thank you.
Yes
It is correct information, the Tucson has more cargo space than the Santa Fe. We checked with Head Office.
great review as always, my wife and i are looking at this hybrid your testing to buy shortly,
I choose the Tucson vs. Santa Fe too. It does drive better and feels more spirited.
I think that for the most part Hyundai has solve a good job at improving their beans recognition within the past decade. They've won awards in various categories & a lot of people get their cars despite their engine recall issues with older engines. I just hope going forward they don't have more engine recalls
Great review Andrea and Zack!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Another great review guys . Keep it up!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it.
cannot wait for your review for hybrid plugin version coming out soon
I’d pick the Tucson
You either go for electric or gas. Hybrid is a complex system and when it is broken very expensive to repair and takes long time. It is not like electric motor is down but I can use the gas engine. That's something to keep in mind with Hybrid vehicles!
Andrea keeps getting hotter with every new video 🔥
She sure does! 💯
2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is the best car that does what you pay for. I love it. I have a fully loaded one. I get 600 miles to a tank of gas.
Wow, I might get one of these
The weird thing is that in Holland the hybrid and phev are only available in the higher trim levels with a 10 inch screen. There are no seperate packages just different trim levels.
Ok after watching your videos for weeks. I have subscribed :) I think the Tucson is the one. My Dilemma now is going Luxury or Ultimate. Please help.
Thanks for the sub!
Go for the Ultimate trim - many additional worthwhile features.
Yay! Welcome aboard!
Great review. Is there any ride difference between the Santa Fe and the Tucson?
I still like drivability of Santa Fe better than Tucson. 🚗
i don't think of toyota for advanced technology... they only just got android auto and apple car play... great review you two
Thank you!
@@andreaspencer9813 What about Zack ? I know he loved the buttons in the original Santa Fe review.
I like the outside of the Tucson more. Andrea likes the chrome grille on the Santa Fe, me not so much.
@@Jimmymac1000 He would pick the Santa Fe because of all the buttons, but prefers the look of the Tucson.
PLEASE do roadtrip tests. I remember you guys did one for the (older) Rav4 hybrid. Would love to see more
Hyundai actually is a company people can trust even if there background of Hyundai is in building world class marine transport ships . One thing is for sure they do not make anything that will not last , bad quality or shitty product. They are just not as far developed as Toyota in the automotive industry yet. World class company . We should only expect nothing less then constant improvement in automotive industries by Hyundai.
Hyundai /Kia are better in EVs than japanese.
@@juneaaahn6826 true, but Toyota has the lead in hybrids.
Good looking vehicle aside from the CrossTrek like wheels. Thanks for the great videos!!
Thanks for watching!
Wheels kill this vehicle, Horrific!
I dislike them too but it’s a case of if you cant beat them, join them.
A couple of weeks ago I reserved a 2022 Tucson Ultimate Hybrid that's forecasted to arrive at my local Hyundai dealer in early June.
Hi Richard did you get yours yet? We are thinking about the Tucson but would like to know what a realistic expectation is for wait times.
Something is not quite right, fuel economy is 7.1L/100km city and 7.7L/100km highway, does it mean it's more efficient in city as compared to highway?
Yes, more efficient in the city.
Hybrids always have better fuel economy in the city.
When you folks do the fuel economy and convert to miles per gallon, are you using U.S. gallons or the imperial gallons Canada used in the 1970s?
Canada is litres, the MPG is for US viewers.
Y’all are the best
Would be nice to mention about Santa Fe reliability in the past (if your sponsor allow you to)
You don’t have to plug in a PHEV to take advantage of the hybrid system. It will still charge driving around.
Tucson hybrid for me. Gad mileage is what makes that decision.
Yes, much better fuel economy.
I like the red and white hybrid
Great review Guys. The other thing regarding fuel range would be the gas tank size difference between the Santa Fe and the Tucson.
If you have to constant buy gas due to a small gas tank, the mpgs will only take you so far....JMHO
With Kia/Hyandai redesigning model's every 2-3 years I'd imagine it would be more difficult to get parts on these in 5-10 years (especially aftermarket). Also curious how long term reliability will be on these. Low resale value currently would say not great but only time will tell with these new models.
I got the car from Philadelphia Fred when the dealer made a mistake in selling me at a low cost. The care had triple after I had got it.
Like the old school buttons. Santa Fe> Tucson
I totally get the regular transmission but honestly I only noticed my cvt hybrid when I punch it and that’s not often especially when music is up
But also only 6 speed?? Seems lagging in gears compared to non hybrids but a plethora of gears compared to a cvt lol
i'm feeling the highlander is another rival to this; this kind of sits in between the RAV4 and Highlander
I have a problem with all the mix and match two-tone colors and chrome on the exterior, it's way too cluttered. The base model looks better
⛽️ fuel consumption/fuel economy???
It’s in the video…
All in the video towards the end.
Hi ,
Which colour is this?
Hi there, it's called Magnetic Grey
