Just as a small update for those watching and perhaps are unaware 😁 Issue 1: There's now a "Short" AM5 backplate by thermal grizzly that you can replace your motherboards backplate with (If needed) and will be compatible with both your SAM (Socket actuated mechanism) and your AM4 cooler that required the backplate change. Issue 2: AMD chips, Ryzen in particular are very memory speed dependent for their performance, this extended wait time is called "Memory training" and has been around since Ryzen 1st Gen, just be patient, 99.9% of all PC issues are able to be solved. It also helps if the RAM you're using is EXPO compatible, please check the retailer for more info. Issue 3: This is a common issue with all new tech, Intel included, developers will always prioritise stability over outright speed, my AM5 system boots in about 10 seconds on a Gen4 SSD (In the back slot of my motherboard), if this problem persists for months and months, perhaps do some research on how you've got your system configured as there is a good chance it's an easy fix :)
Is that 10 seconds from when you press the bower button or 10 seconds when it starts to post? My Ryzen 9 5900X works really fast from the start. I know Ryzen is memory sensative and enabling EXPO can cause instability. I recently bought a Ryzen 7 7800 X3D but within 1 hour it was dead 😢 so send it back and got a refund. Also it seemed to take a long time to boot up. I am talking about 1 month ago when i bought it. I had 5600 mhz ddr5 corsair with AMD optimisation and a 650 msi board. Still thinking about to try again. But i don't like long boot times or instable systems.
@karlos1060 10 seconds from pressing the restart function on the desktop. It's very quick. EXPO is a huge help for AMD, killing your CPU wouldve been faulty hardware, very few actually have that issue.
@@AxleLotl Okay, thanks for the info. I am still leeaning towards rebuying a 7800X3D. But from what i heard is that EXPO can easely kill 7800X3D chips. Maybe also due to older bios agesa? I know it was a think when they launched, and i experienced it myselve. And do you think it is stable enough to go for the 6000mhz ram instead of 5600? My 5900X also has 3600mhz amd opt ram, but it's not stable at that speed. So i don't use expo and it works perfect.
I'm going with AMD (7950x) for the 1st time in 10 years of building and I will be installing the EK Quantum Veloicity water block as the cooling solution. This is good information to know before starting the build, especially since I am not familiar with the AMD platform.
Thank God for this video! I have already RMA'd one motherboard and was ready to send back the CPU because I wasn't getting a post right away like the other 100 computers I've built in my lifetime. I'm not sure why they don't put a warning in the motherboard box or at least have the motherboard post something on the screen. I can't imagine how many unnecessary returns they're going to receive. I'm almost considering going back to am4 already.
Jayz2Cents figured the RAM bios cycling out and explained it on day one. I don't know how so many other RUclipsrs haven't gotten up to speed on it. When I saw Centric swap out the ram in his first build I was shouting "Just waaaaaaaiiiiiit!" LOL.
@@neoperol Agreed. Seems like the manufacturers spend more time working out led lighting schemes on these monster boards than they do ironing out the BIOS now days.
Technically even Jay had to reach out to his manufacturer contact to be certain about it. That's why there's a lot of youtubers who don't have that info. It's not like Jay figured it out by himself.
Should I buy a pc now? I've been waiting for so long, finally the graphic card prices have come down a bit, (but still way too expensive), but im thinking if I wait, maybe it's 1-2 months and then the new 7000 series or whatever is out of stock directly and yadayada, might just get it over with now.. I guess. Kind of sad the state of the PC-market. It's so much more expensive than it should be. Here in Scandinavia GPU:s are still over MSRP for the release over 2 years ago..
I just built my first one but I’m in the states so no idea what the market is like where you are. Prices seem to be slowly coming down and we are on the brink of next gen releases so you can find some good deals if you are ok with last gen. otherwise If you want the latest gen then ya prices will be high so you’d have to give it time to adjust. It will be interesting to see what the market is like when the new GPU’s release. Hopefully we do not have a repeat of the past couple years but I am doubtful. That being said, If I already had a PC prior and was just upgrading, I would’ve waited.
@@NickyNicest Yeah I think I will jsut build one, I cba to wait. You have no idea how it will pan out with availabbiliy, prices and all of that anyway. USA is very very cheap compared to Europe and especially compared to Scandinavia, plus salaries are higher so it's very expensive here in comparison.

I heard it isn't the bios that's making it so long to post but that the timings of the memory are set to the tightest setting so it can't boot and so it reboots till it finds the fastest timings that is able to boot... In other words your Ram will be set to the tightest timings since it tried all the other ones that didn't work b4. He should have also mentioned that this only happens when you boot it the first time or change anything to do with memory.
Assembled a PC 2 days ago. Asus prime x 670e pro wifi, ryzen 9 7950x. Cooled with a STOCK deepcol Assassin III. Removed the standard mechanism, flipped over the 4 nut/screw pieces that come with cooler, so that that the black, plastic part faces the mobo. Screwed them into the mobo, screwed the assassins mounting hardware on the 4 pieces and finally, screwed the heatsink on. Works like a charm.
Did yours take a while to boot the first boot? I have a gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax with a Ryzen 5 7600X and 32GB of 6400mhz teamskill ram. I was about to RMA the CPU until I saw this video.
Oh hell, the default mounting for coolers started back in the AM2 days! I had the same bracket on my Phenom II X4 940. Just use a cooler meant for AM2/3/4 and you won't have to worry about taking the socket out. It's not like the R7-7800X3D needs an AIO since it tends to draw less than 60W.
I like copium in the comments. "40s boot is fine, I got used to that after few days", "it's only ddr5 training", "takes this long first time only (AND on power loss AND after every change in bios)". Dude my 13th gen i5 is sitting on the shelf waiting for parts but if boot times are similar with Intel that i5 is flying out thank you very much.
i realy thank for you basic language. a lots of ppl in the world watching you and i think you give us that what we want to get in the simplest way. A lot of yt tech guiders speaking to fast for me. Very thx for that, rll greatful.
First off, I did everything wrong. 😅 I watched this video a month after building my system. In addition, I used a cooler that IS compatible without a backplate. Then my ram was detected right away, just seconds after powering it on. Now, when I turn on my system, the pc will, on average, load to the Windows 10 login screen before my screen has woken up from sleep mode. What went wrong? 😅 I think it's the motherboard, which was sold at a discount as refurbished. I am not at the computer right now to check bios versions, but it makes sense that the bios was updated. Ryzen 7 7700x cooled by be quiet Dark Rock TF2 , AsROCK B650 PG Lightning, Team Create 32 gb DDR 5600 Ram, WD Blue 1 TB SSD, Arc A770, Montech 850W psu, Zaman T6 tower case. Everything except the ram and psu were 'refurbished' so I saved a lot of money.
So maybe this is my problem. Just built my very first PC with a ROG Strix X670E-A and a Ryzen 7 7700X and have yet to get any kind of display on my monitor. Motherboard displays a boot light and I don't get display. Maybe tomorrow when I get home home from work I'll power it on and walk away for a few mins and see what happens.
It's the expo profile. I bought the intel profile thinking there shouldn't be any issues with ryzen but i been getting the same problems you are. Had to reorder a new set of memory one specifically designed for amd expo profile. The manufacturers are making two sets now one for intel and one for amd to force consumers to spend even more money if they decide to switch platforms
From the memory support list of the B650 Aorus Elite AX, concerning Corsair memory in a 2x16gb 5600MHz configuration, only the Intel optimized sticks are supported.
Mine actually needed about two minutes to boot for the first time, detect INCORRECTLY the joined capability of RAM+CPU (dual channel Ryzen supports 3600 RAM, while my RAM was a bit faster) and died permanently until BIOS is reset again. And the same all around, until I manually locked the memory at CPU limit. Just for your information.
I really wish I would have seen this video before calling Asus and wasting an hour with tech support who had no idea what they were doing (literally putting me on hold to do “research” for 3/4 of the call) then sending back a perfectly good motherboard. Wow. This boot time has been driving me crazy. My AM4 setup had me on RUclips 17 seconds after hitting the power button, now my boot time is 150 seconds. 😐
Its pretty normal to have to buy a new motherboard when getting a new CPU though. I bought a new motherboard last month, and ordered 2x 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 RAM some hours ago. I guess ill get the CPU next month 😁
its really not "difficult" once it is looking for the best timings that work with the motherboard...that is why it is taking long to boot...almost all DDR5 RAM will do that on the new platform...
zen4 looks amazing but i don't want to deal with early adopter issues. gonna stick with zen3 (been burned too hard by intel on multiple pcs to be comfortable with an intel build) unless they work out the issues by the time i build my system.
U'r just a little bundle of helpful info! thanks 4 the info! it's sad that these MB companies, don't have a generic mode for trouble shooting! I have had serious problems in the past! this is why most OEM's & kit dev's. will keep it simple this time around! best regards!
The long boot time with new builds is due to Zen4s "memory training", which can take as long as 10 minutes on initial boot. The system will continiously boot loop to tighten the RAM timings till it finds the tightest stable timings for your configuration. After this initial training, your PC should boot normally.
Are you sure? It doesn’t even reach my expo speeds of 6000. I had to manually change it. But then sleep mode in windows won’t work if ram goes over 5400. So many issues with the 7000 series…
Our whole IT department is on the fence waiting for anAM5 mobo to be released that supports Windows 7 drivers. Upper management despises 8/10/11 so we've got a mandate taht if it don't run Windows 7, we aren't authorized to buy it.
this worked out well with my zen 7700x, I got a msi tomahawk b650 and running cooling with the nzxt kraken x53 luckily nzxt supported the new plates and brackets in their more recent shipments to work with this new motherboard only hickup was the ram had to change that lol
Jays2centz says it's because its setting timings to be the fastest it can with out hanging up like it is doing in step 2. After it sets up the timings it's should boot faster. Every time you change the ram it does that setup of the timings
Just seems wholey unnecessary - EXPO isnt enabled by default, so you're going to overclock your RAM with new timings anyway. Plus new builders will think their PC is broken
@@PcCentric I agree some builders will think their build is "broke" and does seem a bit redundant. 🤔. Great video btw I was unaware of the backplate issue regarding cpu coolers. I'll have to pay attention to that when I build my system. Going full custom loop water cooling to include cpu and gpu.
If that's all, I come from time with hdd and windows 95 😅, I just ordered 7700x with the asus prime x670 p. I'm still running a i7 4790k and it's time for a upgrade
I paired the 7900x with asus tuff x670e..... with corsair aio and had absolutely no issues. post in under a minute. the cooler mounted right on existing holes. you should not even be using air cooling on 7000 series chips.
This really does sound to me like it's a bunch of issues in the bios. Zen 1 had issues that eventually got ironed out. This release is likely to have a bunch of bios updates too.
the issue isn't actually an issue, it's the RAM training itself to get the best timings possible. By design, and only happens once per RAM switch (Which normal consumers shouldn't be switching much anyways)
@@ElSkeppo Every booting/rebooting takes 40 seconds or so TridentZ5 RGB 5600 CL 36, Ryzen 7600x, MSI B650m MAG Wifi. I had the problem of my cooler when starting to build my pc, got my parts, had everything shipped and checked several times to make sure the core, motherboard, and ram and everything else would fit, then as I’m installing parts I get to my cooler after applying my thermal paste, aaaand my hyper 212 doesn’t fit because of the backplate. The reason it restarts over and over is it now starts with tightest timing possible then gets looser till it finds best timing it will work with. JaysTwoCents explains it all in detail in his latest video

Use the Memory on the Manufactures QVL list and you should be alright. When you install new memory, or change the settings it's checking for compatibility and stability. I don't see a problem as it won't do it every boot.
I got a cpu cooler to work by measuring the stand off hieght and I used a MB stand off to get the right distance and then installed the rest of the mounting hardware and it worked great, even looks good, just didn't use the backplate that came with the cooler.
great video - thanks for the info. I anticipate a few more problems with the new 7000 series. I think I will wait a bit before switching over. I do have a Bios question - is the bios for a prebuilt system generally different from the DIY type build (I ended up with a 5800x cpu from a prebuilt and it won't run on my 550 board) I swapped ram, updated to the latest bios, I did that a few times.... I ended up swapping to a different cpu but still would like to use the 5800x in another build - just wondering if it could be a bios issue thanks
I wasn't planning on upgrading to AM5 until the x3D cache versions came out, but with the price cuts for Black Friday I end up getting a Ryzen 7950x for $180. How did I get it for $180, well the CPU was $549.99 - $292.01 Gift Card I had forgot I had on the account -$77.35 in Reward Points brought my total to $180.63. So...does it keep doing that FOREVER on every single fking cold boot (which is what I'm going to use every day in the morning for 9 years - one hopes)? Update BIOS once (I don't really want to keep messing with it)...let it go for 5 minutes (32gb spread on 2 sticks, only 2 I got)...and then...isn't there some "remember settings to the last detail" BIOS setting? Also, why the hell did I find someone complain it takes 20-40s to start from cold boot? What the f is the BIOS battery for if not to keep power so it doesn't forget settings? Also, also, if I get an ASUS TUF B650-PLUS and AMD Expo Vengeance 32GB Dual Channel DDR5 and I have NO spare parts or RAM, how do I go about things? DO I flash BIOS without CPU or RAM (can I?) or do I just add everything (CPU, RAM, SSD, Cooler) and then do it...and pray? What if it doesn't boot? I DO NOT WANT to have to remove CPU, preferably EVER, and NOT THE COOLER either (like for 5 years+ after I put in it). Does the damn thing start of with Expo activated? And why even use expo...I just want the damn thing to work at 6000MT 36-36-36-76 at 1.35v (what it says on the ram)? Does expo try to get it to work at ....say 30-36-32-36-76 at 1.4V or what?
The EXPO profile slow boot unfortunately still exists. I am using the ASRock B650E PG-ITX WIFI board. Asrock has no idea how to fix it. Assuming this is an Agesa issue?
Back in April I said screw waiting and I'm glad I did. I'm milking out DDR4 for all it's worth baby! i5 12500 with DDR4 3600 in a B660 board, gaming value king. 3 months later I bought a RTX 3080 12gb for $700 rather than waiting for the 4070 haha. To everyone that waited, get REKT
That expo profile is tied to the xmp profile and if you choose intel instead of amd or vice versa you're going to run into these problems. I had to order a new set of memory after i saw your video twice or three times and did the error 15 code lookup which was tied to the memory
ASUS X670E-E also has the long post, sits on Q code 15 for about 2-3 mins with 64 GB RAM. Does this only on first post. Once OS is installed, it's an instant boot. Though changing a setting in the BIOS will do another long first post and is fine after. Kinda annoying but apparently it's a process to tune the memory for best performance. It through me for a loop at first, thought I got a dead motherboard. Would have been nice to have a display saying it's tuning memory and may take a few minutes.
Your opening statement about the 7950X system being the most powerful gaming pc you can build is WRONG!!!!!! It has been proven over and over again that the 5800X3D is much faster in almost all games, than the 7950x. Also, the time it is taking for your system to setup new RAM is the system doing timing tests to get the best and tightest settings. NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL!!! Lastly, EVERYTHING is made more difficult in putting together a new system when you use a pos Asrock mobo... Do some more homework... The ONLY thing I found useful in this entire vid is the part about the coolers maybe not fitting. So for that, I thank you.

I will keep my am4 ryzen 1800x. I boot in less than 8 seconds. And my computer is super fast with ddr4 32GB @ 3200. Am5 seems crap design and cpu are overheat and sometime damage by heat. Ddr5 slot are fragile. I stay with am4 and possibly upgrade to 5900x or 5950x more reliable cpu. And will add a rtx 5080 when available despite being pcie3 bus. I don’t care. I prefer stability and fast boot and cpu low temp. I target anyway 4k or vr 8k gaming at high settings so cpu will not be a real concern and 5900x is very powerful.

I've been building Intel PCs for 48 years. After seeing the specs on the Ryzen 7000 series, especially the AWESOME integrated graphics, I started planning an AMD build. The problems with this platform have me very nervous. I need extreme reliability. It would be near the end of the year before I build it so I'm hoping the problems are worked out. The 8000 series may be out by early 2024 so I wonder if AMD has much interest in fixing issues with the 7000.

MF! Before buying the proart b650 and the 8600g I got tired of watching test videos, to be sure that the investment was worth it and no one noticed it. Issue 1: There's now a "Short" AM5 backplate by thermal grizzly that you can replace your motherboards backplate with (If needed) and will be compatible with both your SAM (Socket actuated mechanism) and your AM4 cooler that required the backplate change.

Sure because after spending 1k USD on next Gen cutting edge tech waiting 5 minutes to Post for the first time is the new norm.
Exactly - isn't an issue on AM4 or Intel - seems wayyyy too long
@@neoperol Agreed. Seems like the manufacturers spend more time working out led lighting schemes on these monster boards than they do ironing out the BIOS now days.
@@neoperol yeah, I'd rather wait a bit on first ever boot and let the system tighten up the timings and get me the £1k I paid for
Technically even Jay had to reach out to his manufacturer contact to be certain about it. That's why there's a lot of youtubers who don't have that info. It's not like Jay figured it out by himself.
It's just dialling in the RAM timings, it does it each time you change the RAM or change the RAM settings etc.

I’m wondering the same
I just built my first one but I’m in the states so no idea what the market is like where you are.
I think im gonna buy the i5, cause the new intels use the same socket, so I can upgrader it when prices come down on the 13000-series in the future.

My i5 4690k and a 1TB SSD boots into Windows in 8 seconds. AMD Ryzen is soo slow booting into Windows it feels like a downgrade.

It's not like the R7-7800X3D needs an AIO since it tends to draw less than 60W.

i realy thank for you basic language. a lots of ppl in the world watching you and i think you give us that what we want to get in the simplest way. A lot of yt tech guiders speaking to fast for me. Very thx for that, rll greatful.
First off, I did everything wrong. 😅
I watched this video a month after building my system. In addition, I used a cooler that IS compatible without a backplate. Then my ram was detected right away, just seconds after powering it on. Now, when I turn on my system, the pc will, on average, load to the Windows 10 login screen before my screen has woken up from sleep mode.
What went wrong? 😅
I think it's the motherboard, which was sold at a discount as refurbished.
Wait what, really?
From the memory support list of the B650 Aorus Elite AX, concerning Corsair memory in a 2x16gb 5600MHz configuration, only the Intel optimized sticks are supported.
I accidentally purchased intel optimised the only thing different is the timings which you can change. I havnt and had no issues get fast boot speeds
Is it every time this long? I was hopping it was only the first time when the system tests the ram for better timings.
@@zagohcap1 Every time when EXPO profile is enabled. Terrible.

Yeah I was gonna change out parts too but decided on a whole new build and just sell the old one...

Bought a 5700XT, you can probably work out what my confidence is with early adopting something from AMD is.
Interesting, i'm about to upgrade from a 6 year old intel build

The long boot time with new builds is due to Zen4s "memory training", which can take as long as 10 minutes on initial boot. The system will continiously boot loop to tighten the RAM timings till it finds the tightest stable timings for your configuration. After this initial training, your PC should boot normally.
Are you sure? It doesn’t even reach my expo speeds of 6000. I had to manually change it. But then sleep mode in windows won’t work if ram goes over 5400. So many issues with the 7000 series…

Why is the cooler issue such a big deal? We all went through the same issue with AM3+ to AM4.
it's a big deal as this is how all quality cooler attach. you can spend $1000 on this upgrade then not be able to attach a decent cooler.
Does expo try to get it to work at ....say 30-36-32-36-76 at 1.4V or what?
wait for B650 boards dude.
Sorry to see for the early adopters out there, my 5600x and gen 4 ssd loads Windows in a few seconds.
The EXPO profile slow boot unfortunately still exists. I am using the ASRock B650E PG-ITX WIFI board. Asrock has no idea how to fix it. Assuming this is an Agesa issue?
The RAM isn't running at 6000Mhz......it's running at 3000Mhz.......it's just at a Double Data Rate so it's accomplishes two things per pass.
Hopefully by the time I’m ready to build my new pc these issues will be ironed out.

Do you know that deepcool have provided am4 accessories in cooler packages for years. And that am4 accessories do completely 100% compatible with am5
That expo profile is tied to the xmp profile and if you choose intel instead of amd or vice versa you're going to run into these problems. I had to order a new set of memory after i saw your video twice or three times and did the error 15 code lookup which was tied to the memory
would that always happen?

1 thing I hate is slow boot time
After reading the comment about the expo i remembered i bought the intel expo for ryzen which was giving me the same issues you're experiencing. Had to rebuy the memory with the amd expo

Go ahead and build. Don’t let these people scare you away from AMD. I bought all my parts and have had my pc for about 2 months and it works perfectly fine. I haven’t had ANY issues. 7700x with a 6900xt.
With such a hardware, anything over 10-15 seconds is a crime. I hope they improve it, otherwise its a joke.
Im sorry but how is the screen taking a long time to display first time ram is installed an issue, there are 1440 minutes in a day.
Maybe a Joint or some Valium will help those with issues, or some Ritalin if you got ADHD & cant wait a few mins.
I never shut my pc down as turning a computer on & off all the time MAJORLY Shortens lifespan.
(this is a fact of ALL Electronics period)
My Old system FX-8350 @ 4.8ghz has been only turned off for a total of maybe 10 hours in last 10 years over 37,000 hours turned on and still flawlessly working.
For the cooler problem can I use the same Mobo backplate screws and mount the holders that the cooler sits on and not use the bundled backplate that comes with the aftermarket cooler ? By the way I have the cooler master ma 612 thanks and waiting for the new GPU builds from Markus 👍👍
Been considering a 7800x3d with 32gb 6000mhz CL30 ram - are these issues still prevalent that I'd have issues on a new build?
MF! Before buying the proart b650 and the 8600g I got tired of watching test videos, to be sure that the investment was worth it and no one noticed it.
I started off wrong, doubting how to connect the source, because there are two more connectors, I wasn't sure which one I should use,
The ram led stuck, I updated the bios, the cooler and the rgb of the rams turned on, but nothing.
I was afraid that I was connecting something wrong, I felt old and I gave up, I thought I'm going to take it to a technician to assemble so I don't break anything. I reassembled my 8350, which started in seconds, I searched reddit and someone linked your video.
Tomorrow when I get back from work I'm going to try again. I hope it's just a matter of patience.
And yes, beyond my 40 years and my 12 year old PC, 4 years ago, when I assembled a 5600g for a friend nothing had changed...
Thanks in advance.
Don't update the bio unless absolutely a must.. Be patient and just let it train the memory.. Go watch some birds or something.. Do anything other than watch it and then turn it off and on wondering why its not working.
That was so difficult. I mean you had to stand there for a whole 4 minutes.
A question: while waiting for the system to recognise the DDR5, did you notice the red led on the motherboard for CPU and RAM? Cause I've just bought RYZEN 7 7700X and ASROCK X670E motherboard and that happened. Of course, I shutted it down immediately. I've checked the CPU and the pins in the socket and everything looks fine. Right now I'm remounting everything.
Your answer would be very useful. Thank you. This is a great video to answer to many problems.
Have the same problem, always red+yellow light and takes 40 seconds to boot. Rebooting only yellow DRAM light and same 40 seconds or so rebooting TridentZ5 RGB 5600 CL 36, Ryzen 7600x, MSI B650m MAG Wifi.
i would wait 3 minutes for a boot any day, i already wait one minute so i would definnetly wait 3 mins because i would be playing on a much better pc.
