____
As The Boys matured, so did their musicality. This reminds of a song that the Fly Girls would have danced to on In Living Color.
Two things was happening in the early 90s when it came to R&B/Pop charts. Mentioned before Kriss Kross jump just came out in feb of 92 but also there was the dancehall boom that Shabba Ranks help bring in, in 91 and it started to show its influence the following year specifically with the chatting/toasting style of singing that kriss kross did in jump. NWA and a few others also incorporated this style into some of their singles later. But that all peaked with Snow's informer that came out in august 92. So the boys was on the button on what was popular and using it for their single. The issue was that their audience moved on. The Boys was big in the late 80s/1990 with 10 to 12 year old girls but by 92 they grew out of their crush for the boys. It was part of a larger pattern as artists like Bobby Brown, Al B Sure, etc that was big at the same time of 88 -1990 by 92 had fizzled out because the music scene had changed. Gangsta Rap was growing out of the hip hop charts and R&B charts into the U.S. mainstream pop charts, 90s R&B like Jodeci and Boys II Men was changing the landscape with a new sound replacing new jack swing sound that the boys were a part of and the new R&B was more street edge specifically a street edge that related to half the audience who were most likely into the boys when they were younger. And any fans who remained probably didnt like the new sound and look the boys were trying to do and didnt support the album. Also Motown has a history during the 80s and 90s of squandering their acts.It was a combination of factors that didnt favor the boys. Unsung tv show did an episode about the boys where they explain what was going on behind the scenes.
Wow great context‼️ Makes so much sense cause the boys was drenched in new jack swing
Wow your baby already talking. Lovely reaction from you both.
😊 thank you
Empress is growing so fast❤
She is!
I'll go along with Baby Empress' reaction, Empress.
I liked the end when everything (the music) came together (Mi Amor).
Hadn’t seen that video in forever. You mentioned Kriss Kross, but the Jodeci influence is also strong here.
I definitely would’ve added “Thanx 4 the Funk” to the journey. It was a tribute to George Clinton and funk in general as well as their last top-10 hit (1991).
Interesting
I loved this.... Yet, this was the beginning of the end.
Some groups the transition from child group to manhood doesn’t get accepted and it be over. smh
***THE BOYS (IN THE 90's) TRIVIA TIME!!*** ...The Saga...ENDS.......so to speak...(2:51)......
- ...well, that's IT.....The Boys had to catch up FAST with the changing times...and deepening Voices....the 1st single from "The Saga Continues" showed them going STREET; Bobby Brown, Another Bad Creation, Wreck N Effect, Kriss Kross & TLC were the BIG acts( then), so they were ready to show the World, they were Grown UP.....
- ....and, NO ONE cared! ...although it peaked at #15 R&B (May 1992), Kriss Kross were at #1 Pop AND R&B with "Jump" (for 8 weeks) at that time, soooooooo.......The Boys were very talented, and can sing, but the 80's were OVER, and on to the next Group.......
....In other words, the 'Saga' ENDED......
Dang- it sucks being a kid act
@@EmpressReacts ....like taking Candy from a Baby....or, MONEY......
The song was failure as was this third album
Song being a failure is kind of reach
@@MightMouse2174 the single only hit number 15 on the R&B charts and didn't even hit the pop charts. that's a commercial failure
Commercial failure sure but you made sound like it didn't chart at all
