I feel like the amount of references in Frontiers served the purpose of making people who play the game (but not look at anything surrounding the game) that going foward EVERYTHING will be treated as canon like at this point we know this, but it might not be obvious to someone who hasnt seen any material surrounding the game
Sonic: hey tails this island sure is crazy Tails: *hidden islands rush* Sonic: wait what…? Hidden islands was just going to say hi Tails : *long time no see* sonic: tails you ok buddy? Tails: *LOST HEX CHAO GARDEN CLASSIC SONIC EMERLD MERLINA* Sonic: TAILS YOUR SCARING ME! TAILS: *SONIC BOOM SLOW SPEED SHOES TERRY CARDS SCRAP BRAIN ZONE EGG DRAGOON* SONIC: UM IM JUST GOING TO BLAST TAILS: *SONIC 3D BLAST*
The fact that Tangle, and Stick was mentioned in the same game make me believe that yes, there was too many references. Hopefully the next Sonic game will cut down on them. One last thing, why is Sonic Team obsessed with the Deadly Six? Theve been in or mentioned in EVERY SINGLE SONIC GAME since Lost World (including the Olympic Games) There was NO REASON for Ian to put in a Lost World reference, specifically about Zavok. I think they really wanted Zavok to be a big villain, but they failed, so they've tried making up for it (Forces, and reference in this game)
I dont Think the “Sonic sharing an umbrealla” is supposed to mean him trying to be romantic, when they just talk to eachother, they never ever give a hint of romance for both of Them, I just Think they are friends. It one of my biggest problems with shipping, every single little thing that Can be romantic in ceartin contexts, is for shippers “Only romantic” like if 2 characthers team up, They really want Them to be in an relationship, Which (IMO) is stupid because they all ready work Well as friends like Dewey & Webby from Ducktales 2017 as an exampel. I just Think Sonic meant these words not in a romantic Way, but more in a Way as a friend. Im pretty sure there is no mention of the fact that Amy loves Sonic in This game
I disagree, Amy's whole arc in this game was talking about love and wanting to share that love. I remember her saying something similar to that when she saw the two aliens being reunited before being blown up. The umbrella thing is also pretty significant, especially in Japanese. Where sharing an umbrella does come down to being a symbol of love. If you've ever watched anime and seen a girl draw an umbrella with her and crushe's name on it, then you know. Besides, I don't usually ponder about how I can just share an umbrella with my friend. Maybe if he made similar remarks about Knuckles & Tails I'd see your point.
Sure she has an arc (Cough,Cough i mean a attempt at an Arc Cough,Cough) But i meant that they never refrenced about the fact that she adores Sonic, There is a diffrence with wanting to share love to the world and loving a specific person. You have a point, but i still stand by the fact that i dont Think there is any romantic conections with Sonic & Amy, Like in the cutscenes Amy never even once talks about how she loves Sonic, She kinda does that in the JP cutscenes, But no Sonamy. Im just going assume that these Lines are only here for making the Sonamy fans satisfied lol
I feel if anything, the game's writing just goes to show how shallow Flynn is as a writer, being more focused on making references instead of telling a good story, if not that it's trying too hard to shocked the audience which, I haven't much of but watching the cutscenes made it really goddamn laughable, legit wonder sometimes to why Sonic fans love to worship this guy's work so much? Aside from that, video's pretty good
Yeah, the Japanese writers are still the strongest. But I don't hate Ian Flynn, it just gets boring when it feels like it's just reference after reference. It's almost like it's a substitute for good story telling. In the case of frontiers, there's just a bit of whiplash when you come from all these other games that hardly callback to anything, to hearing about dark gia, Maria, sticks, the comics ect.

That’s probably the most accurate statement ever for the dialogue 💀
Nah lowkey I don’t mind the references but there was a lot tho

Sega LOVES the deadly six!
I swear they do it just to spite us at this point. 😂

I do love Flynn's writing, but I think this is the only real flaw I have with it. He isn't super subtle about references.
