Fantastic Interview. I've enjoyed his work for a long time, and I've never heard him speak so freely, openly and in such a jovial way. He's evolved incredibly over the years, and his vast knowledge of his craft is mind blowing. I should also mention that the interviewer is also great at her ability to interact, listen, and her clearly well researched awareness of his work and influences. Cheers.

Bill Furlong Totally agree on all fronts, and especially too about the interviewer. She knew his back catalogue off the top of her head so well that it informed a really authentic dialogue between them both. Great to see, and something that Squarepusher doesn’t always get in these sort of interviews. I think that’s why he was so communicative about aspects of his work not always revealed.

34:46 "I think it is a bit of a trap, when you're wholeheartedly making experimental music, that it can veer off into its own domain where the music betrays this sense that the listener is no longer relevant." 👍👍👍

I've been dwelling on this quote - does he mean that experimental music can often ignore the listener? I agree with that - but it also seems he might prefer having the listener take an independent role in the listening, allowing him to experiment freely without dictation - which is also a great idea.

I came upon Squarepusher many years ago,and his music challenged me as a DJ.I never wanted to just spin records, mix on one time signature, and I like the space vs Noise I can create with instruments at the same time.I like to listen, learn, and create something that might matter somewhere.I do love musical instruments, samplers, found sounds, and yes,I still love the early LPs,like 'Music Is One Rotted Note'.Too many opinions and not enough bands today, too much emphasis on 'what gear one has, what presets, etc, etc. Not so with Tom,and I remember having an interesting conversation with someone here in NYC that knows him personally. He described Tom as someone adept with the mathematics of music/sound design,on the bass guitar, and his different uses of sequencers/synths.

Hello, Tom. I had a copy of solo electric bass but unfortunately it was ruined in my storage unit. The first time I listened to that cd was the first time I heard of you and it was incredible. I kept hearing all the Hendrix riffs. Great performance.
