- Part 2! That's right, I am actually following through with a sequel! The reign of Gotthard's sons were as interesting as their father's, but in different ways. I hope you enjoy this video! once again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.

Love this series and your channel!
Amazing work
sometimes all I want is stories like this
Excellent series. Small comment though - the map of the Battle of Kircholm (5:27) is a bit misleading, in the 17th century the Daugava river did not have the big water reservoir of Riga Hydroelectric powerplant yet. Although the river was a bit wider than usual there, the huge lake-like reservoir was created only in the second part of 20th century.
I had no idea, thank you for sharing this.
great series
Thank you!
At the time, the name Jelgava wouldn't exist, the town was called Mitau instead, a Germanization of the name Mītava, which simply means "a place of exchange" in Latvian. In fact, nobody seems to know where the name Jelgava came from or what the hell does it even mean.
Oh and, as always with Latvian place names, the stress is on the first syllable. I don't know why English speakers do this - as soon as they see a word where they are not sure of the pronunciation, they immediately try to stress the second syllable. It's JEL-gava, not Jel-GA-va. The J being pronounced as Y.
Lon-DON. Dub-LIN. West-MIN-ster. Bir-MING-ham. See? It sounds... dumb.
Edit: The buildings shown at 2:09 are in Rīga, which has nothing to do with Jelgava or the Duchy. You want to show Jelgava? Show the ducal palace instead, because pretty much everything else was destroyed when the orcs I means sRussians "liberated" the down during ww2.
that editing tho 👀
Thank you! I definitely work hard on the editing!
5:28 oh no, that is completely the wrong border. You can see the modern water reservoir for Rīgas HES, and yea hydro electric stations didnt exist back in the day. I dont fault you for not knowing but there is a webisght Balticmaps where you can selecting layers pick a topographic map of interwar Latvija, the river beds will still be closer to today than back in the day, but no HESes still make that a better thing to trace over. and troops crossing 200 meters of shalow water makes a lot more sense than 1100 meters of much deeper water.
That is a mistake that has been pointed out to me before. I try my best to take those topographical differences related to history into consideration now
😄
