Did they force you with the force?
@@FifthRobin what do you mean?
You BTB have been collaborating alot.
Two thinks you missed in the review Jang. 1 The large jail cell gate uses the same frame as the fabuland doors. 2 a mid sized dish part can fit on those large barrels as a lid.
Legends
Never clicked on a video so fast. 👍
Ooh it’s beyond the brick 🧱 nice to meat you
I mean meet
Bruh, never expected y’all to be here
Beyond the Brick 😂
I love ur videos btw!
i've always wanted those big darn barrels
I really wish Lego would bring back their Castle, Pirate and Old West themes.
The three classic themes :'(
@@loganjaxey3211 Yeah, it just feels like there's not a lot of diversity.
I do too but the old west sets would probably be seen as offensive by someone
@@thebignacho Nah they just need to not include American Indians as the "bad guys". Just do like Marshals v Outlaws. Not offensive to anyone.
Castle and Pirate really need to come back though. I actually liked the Pirate reboot they did several years ago where we got a whole portside Fort.
I also have really fond childhood memories of the Knight's Kingdom series with the four good knights and the evil shadow knights. Really sweet series.
I'll add my voice to the chorus of "I sooo wanted this as a kid".
I got given this randomly by a relative
Me too, really wanted the Wild West sets as a kid, still do.
jepp here too but i got it some years ago used and i’m super happy to have it
I had and still have all the sets from the cowboy western line, except the bank/general store. Got none of the Indian though. It was a nice theme and the one I played with the most, until Star Wars took over.
I was lucky enough to get the Gold City Junction set. One day after school, my mum bought it for me (no idea why) had so much fun with this theme, but never got the chance to play with this set😩
One of those holy grail sets Ive always wanted as a kid.
You can always just build the fort from bricklink
@@brickandmorty7624 Is it cheaper to do so?
@@GeneralLiuofBoston1911 Depends on how much you care for accuracy or it to be 100% correct, if you don't mind missing out on the figures and using light bluish gray, reddish brown etc. instead of the old colours, I think it would be cheaper.
Same, this, the Islanders Island, any Pirate Ship, and any of the big Castles. But this year the wife got me Pirates of Barracuda Bay so one knocked off the list.
This set is older than me by a year lol
I love how the one door actually made a squeaky noise when he closed it
I have the black knights castle from 1992 and the drawbridge does the same thing when you close it
yes
I'm turning 32 years old here shortly, seeing this was pure nostalgic and brought back my best childhood memories from 1996/97. I remember LEGO had the wild west, UFO, Pirates, and Submarine sets during this time period. I remember seeing catalogs of this set going for $99.99 USD in 1996-97. Back then, 100 dollars was alot. Gasoline was under a dollar a gallon, minimum wage was alot less then too.... so 100 dollars was alot then. Thank you for this video
This is Incredible the build is giant and fantastic
I never wanted any Lego set except the Death Star more than this, but when i was a kid all i could do was look at it in decade old catalogs, I always wished they would bring Lego Wild west back. I liked the classic Lone Ranger TV series but the movie and its accompanying Lego sets were kinda meh, even though I bought a few because I wanted western sets xD.
Lego tensd to focus on licence themes. unfortunatelly :(
Same I bought one of the Rangers sets only because I wanted a western set but I didn’t like the style or the film much lol
@@KoW4LsKy Then Lego should make some sets based on the Dollars trilogy :) I want Clint's, Lee's and Wallach's figures and Sad Hill cemetery in Lego form.
I got this when i was about 9 years old. I still have it.
Easily one of the best playsets they've ever made.
I won this set in the 1995 US National Lego Space MOC competition and I’ve still got it (in pieces) today. Now I want to rebuild it with my kiddo. What a nostalgia trip!
You lucky son of a gun. I've always wanted this set!
Milguy 456 I really wanted this set for my birthday that year but I knew I had to MOC my way to my goal. I think I submitted about seven different entries to the contest. I still have the plaque I received with a Lego patch that flew aboard the Space Shuttle.
One second you're playing a game of cards, next second the floor beneath you has disappeared and you've landed on your noble stead.
Or the manure pit
"... This one did not actually shoot like the modern ones do."
That's just 'Murica. All my European 1996 cannons shoot as normal.
Is it irony that only America had non firing cannons? like were they worried about gun violence?
Which is better: detail at the price of higher cost, or simplicity allowing for imagination? LEGO needs to, perhaps, meet in the middle!
I think its best that lego does sets everywhere on the spectrum, which is more or less what they are already doing but I feel they could use a few more basic sets like this one
Low detail is ok because the appeal Lego has is to be simple.
You could argue that now the complex pieces allow better and more detailed toys, but we all fell in love with the simple stuff that made us take play beyong the main build.
Now most people don´t dare to alter anything about new models, my Star Wars collection is proof of that.
You also need a product that will sell. You can have a simple set but it still needs to appeal to most consumers
This sees like "one of the greats" of old lego sets.
I definitely now think that Lego should use open space in their sets more cause this is frankly majestic
I think LEGO has increased their sales largely by selling more toys to kids who aren't really interested in the construction/MOC side. As a result, no thought is given to designing sets as something a kid might want to take apart and build into something else. Modern LEGO designs are so sophisticated that few kids building a set will feel empowered to build their own creations using the same design language. Even in the 90s when sets had lots of huge and specialized pieces, the way things went together was easy to understand and imitate.
The way I see the card game thing, the sheriff would "challenge" bandits they were bringing in to a game, and would drop them into a cell. If the bandits were armed, he'd drop himself to the lower floor to call for reinforcements from around the fort.
My favorite lego set of all time. So much room for play space and to add more stuff. I had a few other western sets I combined with it to make it even more lively. Can’t say detail was a big deal to me as a kid. Having more space to put people and create scenes were so much more important.
Still have it complete with the box (2002 rerelease version, but close enough).
I want this set soooo bad. a couple years ago I ordered one off of bricklink and it got lost in DHL. luckily the seller refunded me but i will never forget that there is a priceless vintage Lego somewhere in Europe
My cousin had this set when I was little, amongst several other classic sets from the 90's to early 00's. I would only ever get to visit once a year during Easter, so the rare times I got to fiddle with those sets in my great aunt's partially furnished basement evoked a special feeling in me that I always associate with that time. Sometimes I catch a whiff of a smell that reminds me of that basement and it takes me right back to 2004. Back to classic Lego sets, first wave Bionicle posters, Power Ranger toys, 1/6th scale action figures, a mini combo CRT TV/VCR hooked up to an NES or N64, a computer running Windows 98 with an installation of Lego Island... good times.
I had this, Main Street and Sheriff's Lockup all set up into one big town and it was my 10-year-old heaven. So many memories.
I’m one of those kids who got this as a 7 year old. Still have it! The gold mine, sherrif, bank, and general store are awesome too. It felt so immersive, and absolutely a ton of space to do whatever storytelling you wanted to. Fantastic set. Absolute classic.
I received this set for my birthday in the late 90s and I really enjoyed it. Up until a couple years ago I still had the whole set with the original box. Unfortunately there was a fire at the house where the set was and it did not survive. Nobody was hurt in the fire which is the most important thing. It was still disappointed that I had lost a part of my childhood that I had been saving.
My local LEGO collectors shop has this set on a shelf and I always wondered how could it be so expensive. Well now I know
TymonB I actually bought this set for only like 150$ used but in great condition I purchased new stickers and it is like a brand new set now as all the minifigures are in good condition. Just have to check out eBay and bids. Sometimes you will find great deals too!
If they still made sets like this I think everyone would love it. Maybe a bit more detailed for modern day, but same premises
My aunt had this set when I was growing up, we lived a few blocks down from her so I played with it a TON. One of my favorite sets.
It's interesting seeing this. I feel like a lesson can be learned. We don't need as much detail as we recieve I don't think. This set is a good set by today's standards in my opinion. I think detail shouldn't take the forefront as much because a huge fort with lots of space will always trump a small fort with lots of interior.
I agree. Lego is overdesigning so many sets nowadays
Disagree. Detail should always take the forefront as that is what makes a set unique. There are only so many ways you can build an under-detailed wood wall without it looking stale. Fort Legorado is revered because it was one-of-a-kind (and because of nostalgia). But imagine if there were two, three more similar forts. Then it would just seem repetitive. Detail is what keeps sets fresh. Instead of three wooden forts with walls all constructed out of big, ugly wood panels, you can have one with a cosy interior, another with SNOT cobblestone etc.
I like the big open spaces! It's great with interior details and more modern building tequnics, but the aspect of having hollow and unused space to use in all the ways of imagination and play is something Lego should look more back to. It's a great playset!
My older brother got this set when we were young, I have about 90% of it bagged and sitting in a container waiting to be rebuilt. Was so much fun.
Bought this set about a year ago used but with instructions and all minifigures and pieces, only thing I had to do was buy new stickers which was easy and cheap, I love this set and like many others this is my favorite LEGO set and part of one of the best themes I wish would make a updated return, a new Fort Legoredo would be an easy purchase and could be incredible.
"You can flip up the ladder to access the towers"… wait… I never ever thought of that. For 24 years I just assumed they’d jump or climb the wall.
My mind is blown.
Wish they made sets like this today. Looks so fun
i think these parrots are supposed to be vultures. Great old school set btw !
I got this set for Christmas in 96’. Man I loved this set. Hours and hours of playing wild Wild West. I wish I could get my hands on this set the 95 castle 6090 set and the 6286 pirate ship. Some of the funniest times I had as a kid playing and building with those Lego sets
Thanks for sharing
The chair trap in the lounge area is hilarious, I love it! The fact that both chairs can drop is just icing on the cake, like something out of an action-comedy-western.
Thanks for the review, Jang. Stay safe!
Wow that’s a cool retro review!
Thanks for reviewing this. It really takes me back to the 2002 set, which I have fond memories of. I remember writing about it in primary school; I must have been so impressed with it.
I miss those old hinges so much - made for much neater building potential.
This was my all time favourite set when I was a kid (the western theme in general was too). I remember when they rereleased this set years ago - wish Lego would do more rereleases of classic sets, or release updated versions of classics using modern bricks and building techniques (like the Barracuda Bay set)
Love these classic reviews keep it up.
I don't even really go for old Western stuff, but this set looks really really good
We meet again, but completely agreed. I have never been too much into Wild west or castle stuff, but this, as a whole set or a thing, looks excellent. Not too plain, but seriously made and has places to put figures
It's interesting just how much lego has changed. The old sets were so straight forward to build, no SNOT, hardly any NPU, and so many special pieces.
13:14 well, well, well, how the turntables
The bandits were Flatfoot Thompson, Cheetor, and Black Bart. The Town set was amazing! You could blow open the bank vault with a stick of dynamite.
This set is why Playmobile castles are such a hit with kids: they are just amazing! It doesn’t matter if there is a lot of open space: kids have plenty imagination and it makes it easy to acces. I was always amazed when going on playdates on how enormous some castles were. That’s stuff you unfortunately don’t get with LEGO
I'm suddenly having an insight to all the cool stuff I missed out on.
That takes turning the tables to a whole other level lol
Lego: "We will not stand for military representation in our sets! No way, we never have and we never will! We take pride in being a company that's safe for children!"
Lego in 1996: haha cowboys and US cavalry soldiers go pew pew
That's not accurate...
what about lego starwars they go high-tech Pew-pew
also lego pirates was older (1989) and even older the Knights(1978 europe and in 1981 the US)
I mean they've always had weapons and military themes in Castle, Pirates, and Space, so a mid-19th Century American frontier fort isn't that different. What Lego avoids is contemporary military stuff like tanks, fighter planes/drones, and soldiers kitted out in kevlar.
I wish they still made these kinds of sets.
@@williamjameslehy1341 tbh, doesn't star wars have Lego sets of tanks, troop transports, armour, jets and drones?
Old lego designers were WAY better than new ones. This set is another proof.
I would just add few details like water trough and few weapon racks. The set itself is still looking great even for today standard
I love seeing reviews of classic sets that were around before my introduction to Lego, and this one is perhaps among the most iconic! Great review, Jang!
Maybe those parrots represent eagles, as they don't have a mold for that one
Indeed. Especialy when the grey one in castle was described as eagle
This set is amazing just like every other original set they had a simple feeling which was very satisfying
This set reminds me of Lincoln Logs. I just loved making wood cabins with them!
HI i have been watching your videos for years. please keep it up!!
Howdy! I like hearing it I go to Texas A&M!
The music mix!! Ohh is so good!!
Jang should remake this set, and put it in New Jang City (upgraded of course)
That molded one-piece flag is a very old LEGO element, at least many of the 70s sets had it, sometimes in white, but also in different color (red, blue etc.) like the two you can find in set 383 or 6083: Knight's Joust.
I think both types of sets (large/simple, smaller/detailed) both have their merritts. Take something like Pirates of Barracuda Bay or the recent deep sea diver sets. There are older sets that are similar to these which show the differences clearly. There's definitely advantages to both. I'm 28, so I've had both types of sets equally split through my life. As you said, the older ones are better for imaginative play and as a kid they were fantastic for that. But also for making your own things with the simplicity of them. It didn't require too much skill to create something on a similar level, and most kids could do it. Compared to modern sets, almost every set can be a display piece. Limited space and added play features allow for a very different type of play. But with stickers, prints, and lots of different shape parts, it almost makes it harder to create different things, or at least is less obvious. Particularly as the original designs are so go, to create something that has a similar level of aesthetic is a lot harder, particularly when using just the pieces in the set. All that said, I still think both types can still create good display and play pieces. I would struggle to see the majority of older sets being too attractive to modern kids in terms of not being "interesting" enough, but for us older kids I think they look fine esp with a retro vibe. As another example, I've recently got lots of the old Ninja sets which I loved as a kid. Some of them still look great even to today's standards, but are very different to most Ninjago sets for the points mentioned above. The creator sets also offer a similar point. They are designed to be used to easily make your own things, but they are certainly simpler and much less interesting looking than the equivalent in the City range for example. Sorry, didn't intend on writing an essay 😆
My dad and aunt had a ton of Lego from the 80s and 90s and I inherited them all. This was among them. Really cool set
This set looks so cool! I wish we got similar sets today
Not sure if it’s my nostalgia, but I like bigger and emptier! I was spoiled enough as a kid that when I got a bigger set that I thought needed more stuff, I had plenty of pieces to add in. I filled in the gaps, added new features, what have you. I can just imagine adding a few cots, a campfire, some hay bales and a feed tray- I would have had a BLAST with this as a kid
The flip-up ladders are silly but I can imagine they're so much more fun for play than just regular ladders.
Just imagining all the funny scenarios you could play with them. Someone could get stuck if the ladder was flipped down while they were up in a tower. The ladder could be flipped up to prevent people on the ground from climbing up. The ladder could flip while someone was on it and chaos ensues.
Like I said, silly but has huge play potential. xD
Feel the same about the two trap chairs. The function is so wierd and unique and you can be so creative with it and come up with your own stories. I love it!
Thank you so much for doing this, much appreciated! A favourite set from my childhood - looking good, being somewhat historical accurate AND just an awesome playset. I wish Lego would do more on this level in our days. A true blast from the past, thanks again!
I got this one last year. One of the best sets in my collection.
Yay comments are back!
They have been back for a while. I don't know what he did, but the video is no longer marked as for kids.
Always has been
My uncle had an old lego castle set from the 80’s as a kid that I would play with when I went overseas to my grandma’s house years back. Certainly sparked my interest in lego, and it’s amazing to see how it has changed over time.
Got this second hand at a garage sale in 1999 when I was child. Thank you, Grandpa!
I like the OG review background music, really brings me back to early Jang👌🏻
Why is this set far better than a lot of modern sets when it’s almost 25 years old?!?!
At first impression, this set seemed pretty straightforward, but wow is it deep in reconfigurability!
To this day fort legorado is my favorite toy of all time by far. It was the first time as a kid that I got the biggest Lego set in a certain line, I loved this thing so much
Great review! You gave a really thoughtful and in-depth analysis of the pros and cons of the set, and that end comparison was very thought provoking. The set itself, even for the era, looks absolutely incredible!
This was by far my favourite set as a kid. I took it apart and rebuilt it so many times that I did not even need manual after some time.
Definitely my favorite Lego set that I owned as a kid. Cool to see this review. Thanks, Jang!
my grandparents had lego sets like this at their place (plus even older stuff) and it was soooo awesome..
I used to have this as a kid. And boy, do I wish I still had it in-tact.
I've got a door, a few almost complete minifigs, a horse, a parrot, and a heck of a lot of brown bricks.
This is such an awesome set! So great for customization too! Thanks for sharing.
What a legendary set, so be able to customise and build upon us much better then added detail. Back in the day Lego encouraged that. I have this set and I remember adding all sorts of other toys, like Dinosaurs in the fort.
26:54 loved how bluntly he said that 🤣 my exact kind of humour
loved this when I was a kid. a friend of mine had it and we played with it so much!! I want to see this be the next modern throwback release!
Cool set, thank you Jang for presenting this.
Honestly glad to have had this reviewed, it is my favorite of the Western lineup of sets. It's a large set with a ton of figures and play figures. Just a lot of opportunities to play with and display.
I love it when you review old sets! I have the western town. Good stuff jang!
Thank you, I wanted to see such detailed review since I had saw it in 1998 catalogue :)
I remember when my folks bought this for me for Christmas. Great times.
Had this as kid. It was no doubt my favorite set! The card table with the trap door was probably the coolest feature
I learned the word "sprue" today. Thanks for that.
This brings back memories. My brother had this along with the other wild west sets while I was more into castles and later star wars sets.
I got this as a hand me down with no instructions and totally disassembled…had a blast with the parts
i don't have many remarkable sets, but this one and the Gold Mine from this theme are my proudest childhood treasures ! this theme in particular should return with modern buildings.. love Wild West !
I didn’t expect that feature in the lounge area at all! I really enjoy it when you review old sets!
I had this for my birthday when I was 9 this bring back so many memories, thanks Jang.
Always wanted this set growing up. My friend had it and I always came over just to see it.
Lego:“We have a strict policy regarding military models" 😉🤦♂️
Great set, great review!
An all time classic. My favorite set as a kid.
Got this for Christmas when I was ten, still think it's my best Christmas to date.
Finally! I really like that set and look forward to watching this review.
