How cool to run into Katie, who filled in some of the history and plans for this unique area! Las Vegas is such a trip! That ice palace must have had a heyday! Memories of the Rat Pack here must be so special to those who experienced them in Las Vegas!
Howdy - I grew up in LV - '62/'05. I shot pool at the 'Cue Club' as a kid with buddies and a parent or two, many times, then as a teenager and adult over many years . In the Commercial Arts Building, my Father, who was a Commercial Artist, had his studio in one of those spots during the early 80's. The 'Ice Palace' was an actual ice skating rink and my buddies and I along with my sister and her friends skated there many times during the 60's. It was still the Ice Palace but did have many concerts there through the late 60's and 70's. I was a wee bit stoned at the time but I do remember seeing Joe Cocker & SPIRIT, along with who knows who else! The big sand pit area that you said was being bulit into something was a local department store years ago called Vegas Village. Right as you turned left after the pool hall and saw that giant function hall, I worked at a Frame Shop & Art Gallery called ART LOVERS GALLERY for 4 years in the early 80's that was in one of those spots. There were many different food spots and bars over the years and NEVADA STATE BANK was next door to the Cue Club for years also. Back in it's time, it was a happening business plaza!! Thanks for showing it and allowing for my stroll down Memory Lane!!
Thank you for sharing your memories and information. I appreciate your time to relay it all in such an eloquently. Reading your comment makes me want to return to experience it without my camera gear. RockOn
At one time way back in it's hayday , in the far southeast corner was the Vegas Village Department Store. It was a large building that also had a carousel of it's own eastern side parking lot. The lot has been vacant for years. The word decrepit just doesn't quite describe it now. They could build a multistory parking structure where the Vegas Village store was and they then can have a centerpiece area (where the inner parking lot is now) for any artsy event! Nice tour of it Larry!
Never Ben to the old mall. Interesting video Larry. Always like history of LV.

I think you misinterpreted monday through sunday as monday and sunday.
I was being silly.
Just sad.
