My darling wife is from Tiger's village and she is also a Tigress. Happy when He was introduced by the commentator as a Biafran. This fight happened a couple of months after the Declaration of the Republic. Rest on Tiger!
i smiled when the commentator said " lately he has conserved himself...only averaging 3 fights a year". now it would be "a busy champion he has fought 3 times a year"
😐🤨🤔💭💡🔆▶ ~ Roger was the number one contender for the title, and according to His Brother Jim Rouse "that was there in Vegas", told Me Roger was ahead on points till Tiger caught Him and Roger's face hit the mat and put an open cut Above His Mouth so the (Referee) seen the blood = (above His mouth) and stopped the fight, 🙁☹😤😠😡🤬👀Yup‼💯.
OMG, old memory. He was defending his championship in the USA Las Vegas 1967 while Nigeria, Britain as the aggressors were planning a war against Biafra. At least many people who don't know that Biafrans were known as Brave and strong people should just watch this video. Despite the fact that Nigeria and Britain have been working tirelessly to rubbish the true history of Biafra, the beautiful side of Biafra kept resurfacing.
Yes there was and there is still that country known as the republic of Biafra. The land of the rising sun. The strongest and smartest clan in the world. At times if I am hit by hard times and I feel like giving up, when I remember am Biafran, I move on
Dick cut Roger above the mouth, - didn't affect his sight, but it was the end of the Last few seconds of the Last round - the referee stopped the fight because Roger's face was bleeding and even tho Roger was ahead on points the fight went to Dick. I knew Roger's family and they all swear that was true (Along with several busloads of Roger's fans from Anaconda. if You notice after Roger's face hit the mat He got right up to finish the last few seconds of the LAST round but the referee gave the championship back to Dick. May they both Rest In Peace.
One of the great gentlemen of the boxing ring and a ferocious warrior to boot. My man and the greatest African fighter of all time. A shoutout to the hickory tough and very intelligent Mr. Rouse...the man put forth a great, great effort. Respect.
...back when "Junior..." & "Super..." divisions were largely dismissed in th'US and guys like Tiger fought legitimate lIghtheavies at well under 170. Welterweight Champ Emile Griffith beat him for the Middleweight Title with Griffith weighing only 151.5 to Tiger's 159. Today, it's bad enough there's a weight division seemingly for every other pound. on top o' that you now hav fighters fighting at "catch weights". For a World Title no less! Boxing organizations such as th'WBC will allow-say-a World Middleweight Champ to defend their 160lb belt at a catchweight o' !55. It's crazy!
Roger's Brother - that was there - told Me the fight was stopped over a cut on the right upper lip. They protested the "referee", and judges. Lost Wages.
The referee took it in the last couple seconds of the 15'th when Tiger caught Roger and cut "The Raz" above the mouth at very last seconds of the 15 fifteenth His brother Jim was at ringside and has always said so. Roger won that fight on points if not in Vegas.
The referee stopped the fight a little too soon it appeared. Rouse was hurt but it was only 1 punch. If Tiger landed a few more, that's when the referee should have stepped in. Rouse was behind on points in any case. Tiger was really a super middleweight, not a legitimate light heavy. He hit hard enough though.
Back in those days majority of the supers and jr division weren't considered legitimate division so he was a middleweight. A super middleweight is basically a small light heavyweight so technically he's a light heavyweight. But naturally a middleweight who fought light heavyweights.
@@antoniomosley9410 Dick Tiger was only 5'8", ok for a middleweight but short for a light heavy. Dwight Muhammad Qawi was 5'7" and fought as a light heavy but most light heavies are much taller.
@@pukulu Pretty much but remember he moved up to light heavyweight after losing to Emile Griffith for the undisputed middleweight title and at that time he was hitting close to 40 years old as well.
Rouse was a solid pro and an first-rate amateur before that. It's hard to tell how bad the cut was, though. It looked very bad in the image--he left a puddle on the canvas where his head hit and side of his face was darkened when he arose. I was sorry to learn he died of Alzheimer's at age 65. It's possible too many of his fights weren't stopped when they should have been, but I have no way of knowing. A hard profession.
Nduweze Daniel very discourteous remark, we need to talk to each other with respect, some people may be colour blind and it does not require eye check. No offence intended.
@@MrRoyck10 thanks! Though i didn't even see it in that angle , cos you know sometimes someone may try to provoke you but the way you address the matter won't give him/her the room to go further.
