  • Ever gotten a brand new cable and it just seems to have an attitude coming out of the gate?? It’s probably because you didn’t unroll it first thing! Watch as I show a stupid little contraption that I made to unroll my cables for a project.

This is great advice. If you simply grab one end of a new cable and pull, it will take 10 or more over-under recoiling cycles to work the spiral out of the cable. Proper unrolling of a new cable as demonstrated completely avoids the cable spiral issue.
Your carousel is clever but you can also just unroll the cable by hand. Find the outside end and let it dangle. Then unroll the cable hand over hand like unrolling fruit tape candy.
Another tip is to leave the cable out in the hot sun after you recoil the cable to let it relax in its new shape.

Great video, as for the connector facing forward when in your left hand, the connector orientation and which hand you hold it in, left or right, determines which direction the cable will coil either clockwise or counter-clockwise. I haven't found any definitive source that one or the other is better but I do follow your advice of connector facing forward when in your left hand which results in a counter-clockwise coil.

Great tip! I have never done it this way, I usually just drop the pile on the ground, grab one end and walk away while "un-twisting" that wind out. Your method/device is much quicker.
