      How many ports are you looking for? I might have a line on one or two. There are resources to blend the legacy connections with the IP connections. Depending on port count and other needs it may make sense to still look for an ODIN. You can plug 16 legacy connections straight into the frame.

    Great video, as for the connector facing forward when in your left hand, the connector orientation and which hand you hold it in, left or right, determines which direction the cable will coil either clockwise or counter-clockwise. I haven't found any definitive source that one or the other is better but I do follow your advice of connector facing forward when in your left hand which results in a counter-clockwise coil.

    Thanks for making these videos, Rob. I now have a clear understanding of the various functions and settings within the Freespeak framework, which makes me much more effective when I work as an A-2. I work as an A-1 most of the time, but I'll be much more confident accepting A-2 gigs, thanks to you. Very much appreciated.

    Thank you for making this video. A lot of good information. What do you need to build IFBs? Thanks again.

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 3 месяца назад

      IFB is a tricky term. It means very different things to different people. So I will answer what it means to me. Building an IFB circuit can be accomplished in many different ways. What you are looking for is : one mix or content to reach the talent until the producer intervenes and then the producers voice is heard instead of the mix. The ways to do this could include: Intercom like RTS Adam and you build the IFB in the intercom table. Or: using a dedicated IFB engine like the RTS 4010. (Very old and niche setup but quite effective). Or: if you are in the Dante world you could use the ST5422 which use logic to combine the PGM and Producer mic to create the IFB. Also look at the ST348 for info on this subject. Or: you could do some “silly stuff” in a digital mixer like the X32 console with sidechain ducking. The most fully integrated, seamless of these is by far a Matrix Comm like the RTS Adam/Odin/OMS , Clearcom Eclipse, Riedel Artist.

    Hey Rob! Thanks for your videos. Lot's of incredible info. Did you make the relay cable or is it available somewhere? If you made it can you provide some more detail on the process? Thanks!

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 3 месяца назад

      Hey there, I make my own relay cables. But there are manufacturers out there that will make them for you. I would suggest that you get comfortable with pinout diagrams and buy yourself a simple breadboard. Trial and error will enrich you so much more than anything else. Once you have the knowledge of how to work in these ways you are ready to create so many cool little gadgets.

    Thank you for the time & hard work you put into these videos, Super helpful. When a COMM CH. on BP325 is left open or unattended is it possible to unlatch it from a different location or another 325?

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 3 месяца назад

      The full answer is “yes but it depends on many factors” RTS is the Windows of intercoms. Where as I think CC is the Mac of intercoms. What I mean is that RTS has lots of little options and secrets that can be enabled or disabled depending on user choices. So yea there is a RMK scenario on BP325. But the BP has to be programmed to respond to the tone. Also the power supply must be connected specifically wired to send this tone. It’s extra Wiring on there and is seldom wired.

    4-wire question: If you had 3 audio consoles with each having a talkback mic, could you submix (sum) the talkback mics into a aux bus on one of the consoles and send that aux out to a 4-wire input port…and thus have everyone on that conference be able to hear all 3 of those talkback mics?

      Each KP will need to connect to the frame with either a “FRAME” port and cable. Or it will need to connect to the frame with an ip connection. But everything should connect to the frame. Connecting one KP to another KP isn’t a thing. OEI-2 is a bridge device intended to connect KP’s without Omneo to a frame via ip.

    Could i ask what you meant by 'hairpin' @ 11:08 ?

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 Год назад

      A hairpin is essentially a “short patch cable” that loops back into the same connector(but on the other side). In trying to find a picture of this concept I learned that the more common name is “loopback cable”. Here are some examples. www.showmecables.com/by-category/cables/fiber-optic/loopback

    is the reason for groups so that audio does not disturb video etc and you have global control for the PM/showcaller? plese help. i am so confused. my understanding is that there are only 4 channels of comm. within those groups we can have a matrix. am i wrong?

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 Год назад

      The packs have 4 buttons. So each user can be a part of 4 things at a time. The freespeak has the ability to have up to 12 channels. So you could create 12 “talk pools” or “partylines”. These channels are the easiest way to “reflect audio” to everyone who may need to hear the conversation that is pertinent to their job. Also know as a “PL” Groups act similar, however the members of the group are defined a little differently and it’s easier to get wrong when programming. For this reason it’s easiest to use channels. A matrix is an underlying concept that affords more control than a partyline only system. A partyline is a “function” that can be programmed into a matrix system and allows for the “pool type talk” mentioned above.

    Great video Rob. I work in broadcast just starting 6th decade. The company I started with used Pirelli Fiber I believe one of the first of it's type. Most connectors were a version of SC/APC, not sure actually when standards started. I've seen SC/APC barreled to SC, MM jumped with SM. One site had a Ma Bell feed MM CWDM into the plant building they installed a receiver that internally changed to many output SM then to our gear to product, thing never worked right. Today, semi-retired, I have a lot of hybrid plant, away ends are ST, fiber manager is LC all single mode. The odd ball items are for things like RS232 over Fiber which is SC/APC and Some audio over fiber which is plain SC. One thing I'm finding more of is SM Bi-Di especially in data and audio, little or no delay. Our devices are 1310 - 1550. We should remind all especially in Bi-Di plant not to assume there isn't traffic on the circuit just because one end isn't connected, other might be hot. Either WL can damage your eyes before you know it. Good info, thanks for sharing.

    the bespoke lingo is super annoying. Register? you mean addess, right? why do all these companies insist on wierd lingo. can we not agree on one common set of terminology? it's dumb. i had a guy ask me for a transformer once instead of just asking for a D.I. like a normal human. pisses me off. but at least your explanations help me!! it's a great vid. I just hate the manufacturer's lingo being bespoke all the time. drives me nuts. it's like the term "subscription" for patch. bullshit. it's like they are all trying to make it hard for a tech to even speak in English

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 Год назад

      Hi Jen, I used the word “register” because is the word that the manual and that the menu uses. I thought it might be confusing if I “bespoke my own and then people trying to use the equipment found a different word in the menu. Imagine if I told people to go to the address menu and they couldn’t find that menu. I think THAT would be “super annoying” to most “normal humans”. Please expect more language that matches manuals and menu’s from me in other videos. I apologize in advance. But I’m glad my explanations were helpful.

    Good video Rob! Coming from the audio world, I refer to a fiber bundle as a "mult", bundle or snake of "6-strand, 12-strand" etc. And of course, a single strand fiber could be carrying 64 channels of audio, so calling a single fiber "1 channel" is a little confusing. The crossover terminology is sometimes confusing. Your coverage of connector types and fiber modes is good, would like to see you expand on that, covering why a system would use SM over MM (distance) and maybe a bit on signal conversion at the ends of said fiber (coax/BNC to fiber, then back to BNC on the other end). Keep up the good work!

    Hi Rob! You mentioned a license in your other video. Do you need to purchase a license to in addition to the equipment?

    • @roblipop8797
      @roblipop8797 Год назад

      There is a license named the “SA License” it means “Stand Alone” and allows an antenna to “come to life”. Everything in these videos is predicated upon possession of this license. This license is actually installed in an antenna and there must be ONE license per “Net” (installation). This license is not needed when running bolero in association with a Riedel Artist frame. But that is a horse of a different color. On the topic of licenses. There is also a “PL License”. It increases the allowed number of partylines from 12 to 32. This can be a VERY necessary limit increase when running more beltpacks in more departments.
