Hey man great videos as usual! Can you explain how to make a PL line powered or "wet"... does that happen in the 2w-4w converter? Does that power get routed thru a SAP panel? I did a hockey game VMU last weekend and that was the one part I needed help with from the home truck A1

      Hey there,
What you are asking can happen many ways depending on the “robustness” of the system. So I want to frame my answer in a way that provides info to people who are working “with less”
The intercom frame makes the audio. In 4w.
THEN: the 4w2w converter converts it to 2w.
THEN: a power supply adds voltage to the channel
THEN: it hits a SAP wheel and you can blend channel 1 with ch2 and put it on a patch point in your patch field.
THEN: you probably need to patch it to a DT pair so you can send it into the field or put it on a tie line in the back of the truck.
The reason for the SAP isn’t always clear. It seems like a unnecessary step until you zoom out and look at PL’s (beltpacks) in the field zoomed way out.
Let’s just use the example of STATS and Official Stats. Both of these beltpacks need stats line. But only one of them needs program. So the first channel is the same but the second channel is different. You would “SAP” these to be Stats/Program on one Beltpack and Stats/Stats on the second. This small difference is best accommodated in the SAP panel. Small differences like this will appear all over the “Beltpack side of things” and the SAP let’s you accommodate.
      Hope this helps!

Hey Rob, great video. I currently work with a high school broadcast truck that is looking into purchasing an rts system. I have worked with some RTS, but the majority of what I have done is with the Clearcom matrix and analog systems. Right now we are looking at the Zeus and Odin for frames. We are looking at the KP-12 and KP-3016a for our keypanels. I would love to hear what you think! We have a small 5 person crew that would need key panels in the truck. As for outside the truck things get a little more complicated. We broadcast state championships and small events for ESPN so personnel changes a lot. Some games we will run 5 cameras with no other outside crew. While some games we may run 7 cameras with a TOC, Replay review, stage manager, and others. We have 2 announcers for every game and a sideline reporter, sometimes 2 sideline reporters. The biggest issue we run into is distance and time. We never know how far away some of our runs may be so fiber is very important, and most games we do are a set, shoot, strike all in about 9 hours in small high school stadiums with no backbone. We are currently on the edge of a 16 channel intercom. After adding up our largest broadcast I can count 18 but that includes a true interrupt for all talent with individual mixes to each. The Zeus 32 is not far from the price of an ODIN 16...so things are getting complicated. On top of all that the key panels is another discussion. From my understanding the KP-3016 do not provide many extra features than the older KP-12 like the one in the video. One concern is the use of more than 12 keys. I have never used the older KP-12 like the one in the video. I think it is possible to do pages on those to access extra keys but want to make sure and also wanted to know how hard it is to get there. Unfortunately, we currently have female ph-88 (best headset ever) so we will either have to make a small cable, replace the connector on one end, or buy new headsets. Finally, my other concern is volume control. I have worked with the newer KP panels that have the 4 direction switches. On the key panel shown in the video how do you adjust individual channel volume? Overall I would love to get your opinion is for our truck. Thanks for your help! And thanks for your videos!

Hey Josh! Thanks for the opportunity to help, I love the questions. Let me rattle off some and then we can talk offline.
Their 30 line is a value line with minimum features. But so was their kp12 line. Pages is available in the kp12 and so I’m sure it I s in the 3016’s. Individual volume control is accomplished by lifting the desired key to effect and then turning the volume knob. Very easy.
Your need for fiber really makes me think that the eventual answer is an ODIN. But I would really want to talk about some of your destinations like cameras and beltpacks in the field and how they are accomplished. Let talk offline. Looking forward to it!
