I cannot tell you how much I loved this video. I had a horrible experience at the dentist office for just a consultation....I left in tears and never have been back. I NEED to go back to a different place. I just have the hardest time getting in the head space to be brave enough to do it. This video was so helpful. Im so glad you are back to posting videos!

This was the video I needed. The information, the understanding, the compassion…
After months of mental anguish, you ladies have helped more than you realize.
    My appointment is next week.
Please keep doing what you’re doing. And know that you are reaching people. People that truly value and appreciate you, your efforts, and your time. You’re making positive impacts upon people’s lives. And that. is. awesome.

Dr Skeegan really impresses me as the type of Dentist that we need more of, she is fantastic! I've never been to her but for all the people who are at the beginning of this process, l say she sounds like she is very concerned about our needs and especially anxiety. Kristi...just another great job interviewing these great Professionals. You are really digging deep and asking the questions we want answers to. I am so impressed with these latest videos....you are doing wonderful!

I am so impressed with your interviewing skills! You really asked indepth questions & the interview flowed easily. I think Dr. Skigen was thorough in her answers & didn't hesitate at all. You both did exceptionally well in covering this topic for dental patients. Thank you!

Thank you! I so enjoyed being able to really get into this and hear a dentist’s perspective. I think she did so well and really demonstrated empathy and compassion.

You hit the nail on spot. Totally true about how people need to get information. Some dentists are straight forward with no empathy towards the patient. Like yes maybe what you are saying it’s the truth, but having a more personal connection with the patient in a private office and not throwing out the reality of things. Giving the patient to maybe absorb the information about what’s going on. It can be traumatic. And I truly believe their is someone for everyone and you need to feel comfortable with your dentist. And if it’s about losing your teeth, it’s personal. And you need time to process/prepare for it. Unlike other dentists who do it as a transaction. Like yep, you got gum disease and you need to remove all your teeth. Woohhhhh hold up. Maybe say in a different way, maybe private setting. Like they don’t take account your feelings but rather get work done and not understand if the patient could afford it let alone process what’s needed to get done. Etc!
What upsets me the most is yes many have great teeth, and some people don’t. Shit happens, no one wants fucked up teeth. We all want that beautiful smile. And many of us aren’t fortunate enough to have it. Whether it’s genetics, medications, etc. life happens. I always say, if you have the best teeth in the world, boom you get into an accident and now you lost some teeth. How would you like to be judged? Right? We all want to feel beautiful in the end. I’m so happy for you, you have given people so much confidence and courage to step up and take care of things. Even though we feel like it’s the end of the world, we love to know that we aren’t alone and with all your videos, it’s gives many of us hope so thank you for all you do. Many of us can relate!

I was shamed by a dentist before. “You’re so young to have all these dental problems”. I told him the last thing you’ll think about when you can’t get out of bed due to ms is teeth. The meds I was given for spasms cause dry mouth. Smh

Wow. I have never seen such a beautiful dentist. I might have to chip a tooth so I can make an appt. Corn Nuts should do it. But seriously, I love my dental care team. I wish I would've gone to them sooner. They are super nice and personable. I found them during a time of tooth crisis and they were very calming and just fun to be around. If that's possible in a dentist office. They've never tried to blow sunshine up my butt, nor convince me to throw good money after bad. They are decent, honest people. Now, Im preparing for the big day. Today I went in for the impressions, I only need the upper denture. I'm more concerned with laughing during the extractions than anything else. They are my hero's.

That was a great interview, and Dr. Skigen seems very compassionate. I have all of the fears you discussed. When I have been able to get work done I always bring a sleep mask to cover my eyes and headphones to drown out some of the noise. I have never had a dentist have any issues with it as long as I could hear them if we needed to communicate.

Awesome video! I love that Dr. Skigen said there’s no judgment about why they are there and what matters is to assess the current situation and how to move forward. I agree that is very unproductive. Kudos to her for her compassion towards her patients!

Awesome in-depth information to lessen that fear, love that they really focus on patients concerns, certainly having that conversation does give you a sense of trust with the doctor.

I think you need to teach dentist about communicating with patients and how to hide their judgement. I have been to several different dentist in my area for myself and family and I have never felt so small leaving those offices. Finances is a serious problem and lack of professional care makes it worse after so long it just seems impossible to get help.

when you do not have money and you have to count on Medicaid so you have to go to the health department dentist and have the kids learning to be a dentist work on you it's a nightmare.... I had to go in there had all my teeth pulled as for the gas you can get to ease my panic first they told me my insurance didn't cover it and I knew that they did. the ones in the room got it, I had kids trying to take out my teeth an hour later couldn't even get one out I'm so very traumatized over the whole situation.. I have dentures now they are beautiful after I fought with them to get them the light white color I wanted, but I still can't eat in them went back there five times or so called adjustments.. then the dentist told me I need to go to a different dentist place affordable dentures which I don't have money for and get my bottoms implanted in or whatever that is.. it's a shame when you're older worked your whole life and don't have dental insurance that you have to go through all that.. depressing to say the least.. they heard you in and out of there at the health department like cattle have no absolutely no compassion for what you're going through. ☹️

what I was saying about the gas was the people in the room the students got the gas and one of them was laying in the chair next to where I was sitting I could write a book on what happened to me in there.. like I said it's been over a year and I still can't eat in my dentures, p but I know going back there won't do many good just don't know what to do anymore

    Are the implant teeth permanent

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  2 года назад

As permanent as you can get for tooth replacement. Mine are fixed and only the dentist can take the teeth out as needed for cleanings but the implants should last pretty much the rest of my life.

I like the permanent implanted teeth but not so much how it change the top of your mouth.its like u always look constipated because like traditional dentures.the all on 4 dont give u back that facefullnest of your face.other than that.wish i had 40 thousand dollars to do it.even tho that price range is ridiculous.smh

Thank you SO much for doing this video. I've been afraid of going to the dentist since I was a kid. I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on my teeth over the years, and now at 64 I'm going to have the rest of my teeth pulled and get dentures, but I'm afraid!! I went to a new dentist in the town we moved to, and I did not get a good feeling from him. He seemed rushed, and not sympathetic. I felt like he was disgusted, and just wanted me to go see the dental surgeon. He didn't talk to me about any options, or who would do what work, or anything. I told my husband that I wasn't happy with that dentist, and wanted to go see someone else. He made me feel ashamed. Now I know for sure that I'm going to see someone else, after listening to Dr. Skigen! I have so much fear and anxiety about this.

You can literally die from bad teeth yet if you don't have the money your screwed! I messed up because when I was young I couldn't afford a root canal so I just had it pulled thinking its in the back so who cares. No one told me your teeth shift when there is a gap! That and Periodontal disease is hereditary. My teeth themselves weren't horrible but they were getting loose from my gums! Everytime I wanted my teeth cleaned they would say well we have to do xrays and exam. Never wanted to clean them till I needed a deep cleaning and that made it worse. I wouldn't let them touch my front teeth on upper or lower and they were the only ones not loose so I say BS with the deep cleaning under the gums being good for you.
