As someone who has a full 3D package I think the best thing about dimension is that you can make things for clients and partners that don't have that knowledge and software. Great tutorial :)
This was perfect! I'm paying for CC, but tend to only use PS, InDesign, and Illustrator. This tutorial helped me render a book design for a client and was such a good overview. thanks!!
kids nowadays no idea how hard it was for people who build jurassic movie the first one...... this alone vuattttt. Omg. Speed mockup render for real for real...... this is helpful especially for artist dealing with fast pace and package design. Thanks for this.
i do lots of logo design and make mock ups for it using photoshop. I ve read that Adobe Dimension is actually very good for mock up. Cant wait to try this!
@@ForeverDansky forget about it. it doesnt actually run with my macbook air m1. it open up but no ui whatsover. i did google and found out that Adobe is actually want to abandon this because they wanna push the new Adobe Substance 3d. sigh
Used to be called Adobe Dimensions (with an 's" on the end). Used this back in the 1990s alongside programs like Amorphium 3D, Extreme 3D and Bryce 3D. That was back when you could by software like CorelDraw!, Photoshop, Kai's Power Tools, Cool Edit Pro, and Windows right off the shelves like cereal boxes! Circuit City, Comp USA (oh yeah! haha!). Early multimedia design was hellishly agonizing. This is when the 100MB Iomega Zip Discs ruled the world before CD-ROM burners came out!
Wow, this way great, all in a nutshell very well explained. I was trying to create a wrinkled plastic look, do I have to use illustrator or photoshop, if it can’t be done in Dimension., thanks.
I used it back then. This version is NOT anything at all like that original. Even the name changed. This version was created a few years ago as a different program and was bought by Adobe and the name was changed. The original from the 90s was actually called Adobe Dimensions. It had that extra s. That program was FANTASTIC and produced vector "blends" for 3D shading. The final result was not raster it was vector and used blended vectors for shading so it could be opened in Illustrator and Freehand, or exported to EPS for use in page layout programs like QuarkXpress or Adobe Pagemaker.... holy crap I miss the old days. Macs could be opened up and upgraded, no cell phones.... sorry I digress. Adobe Dimensions was great for doing mock ups and logos because it had no fancy features and was a piece of cake to learn and use. I loved that program and never could figure out why Adobe dumped it and its features and never incorporated that functionality into Illustrator.
Hi Dansky, I don’t see the render window in my Adobe Dimension 3.4.7, has it been removed to feature it on the canvas instead. ? I saw it on one of your tutorials and others as well. Thanks
Sorry I didn’t mean that tab on the top left, rather the one in the top right, Show/Hide Render Preview, in this video it’s on 5:36. a small windows is viewed as well as the canvas. Thanks.
Great tutorial. The aluminium can material doesn't come with the standard materials in Dimension. I need to download from adobe stock and then they try to sting me for $35 per month extra. Does anyone know where I can get this without subscribing to Adobe Stock?
Hello! Please tell me how to make the object in Your way, that would be superimposed image (tif) is not displayed on the reverse side of the object? I have it duplicated! Front and back!!!
Just started using it today looks an awesome program! Apologies if Q asked already but can you create your own custom 3d objects if so how & can you have your own backgrounds Etc? Thanks for a great intro to this program!
Thanks John, great Q! You can create backgrounds using basic shapes such as “Planes” or select the canvas name (top left corner) and from the property inspector on the right add an image as the background colour from the colour picker 👍
most people who dont know 3D yet probably dont appreciate how simple this program is. You can have professional looking renders with no experience in modelling/ 3D in general at all. And the renders look amazing. Sure, youre very limited but for 95% of the time when you just want to showcase a design, the result is probably better than with traditional software and its fast af.
What would be the best way to wrap a label completely around a can? Every time I do it, the artwork doesn't line up properly when it wraps so any horizontal lines don't touch when it wraps. Also, is there any way to select specific points to scale just that point (or points), like one could do in Illustrator? I am using a soda can and trying to make it a TALL can but when I scale vertical, it also distorts the lip on the can. If I can just extrude the body of the can, that would be great. Thanks!
Is that a two-dimensional picture of a watch? Images that are JPEG/PNG format can be imported and placed on the surfaces of 3D models in Dimension. Something you can try that occasionally works (depending on the scene) is adding a Plane and applying a Glass material, and then adding your 2D product image, texture, graphic etc. on to that Plane 😊
Hey Nak, yes it certainly is! I've had the most success with FBX and OBJ formats. There may be compatability issues depending on the complexity of the geometry, but it's a great way to bring in custom shapes and models from something like Blender. Textures will often need relinking etc, and this video demonstrates how to do it ruclips.net/video/n3aAEJ5obww/видео.html 👍
Nice video, loved the tutorial. I see, when you're working on shadows, (somewhere around 10:11) the top part of the shadow is crossing the ground boundary. How do you fix this issue? Do you do that in Photoshop, or there's any tool here to fix this?
Aspiring digital artist here and just discovered Dimension last week. Lol! And with the help of your tutorials i am really getting the hang of this app. Question; the rendering stops at 50%. Is that a bug? Not much info to be found about this, i would be greatfull if you could share your thoughts about this. Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands.
Hola Jeb, yo lo e estado usando y si es posible cargar tus propios modelos, e imagenes. Es solo tema de exportarlos en los formatos permitidos por Adobe Dimension y agregarlos directamente desde Importar.
Having an issue with my image being fuzzy even after I am using the depth of field and focus view options. I am not sure if the png field I am using for the graphic is to blame or what? I have even use a .ai file and the label still comes out fuzzy. I am not sure what to do really beyond this.
Learn 3dsmax or Maya or heck Keyshot and Blender....its free and has interactive viewport and features that will blow you away. This is a tool for the consumers and not 3d artists. It`s something quick and easy. For product visualization I`d go for Keyshot. Blender is great all around but has a learning curve. I have 25 years of CG experience and I`ve tried and used all of em.
The learning curve for Dimension is about 30 minutes, and it's more geared towards 2D designers looking to quickly create mockups and generate product visualisations. Blender, Maya etc. is software for 3D artists like you say, but a very different offering to Dimension.
If I wanted to make a 2 second video(or gif) of the product rotating, how would I go about that? Am I able to export the model and import it into like after effects?

New to your channel. Just subbed and liked several of your videos already. I love this intro to AD because the results are really quite beautiful and it helps to stay motivated to learn otherwise tedious basics. I wonder if AD is one of the tools responsible for the proliferation of Photoshop Mockups and if so, what the best workflow is from AD to PS. Perhaps that's covered in one of your other vids (I'll check) but if not, would it be worth exploring? Anyway, greetz from France and thank you for this really inspiring tut.
Hey Cricri, thanks so much. Adobe Dimension is an absolute gem in my opinion! It's great for creating mockups, but is also a user-friendly way for creatives to explore designing in 3D, and because it can export a layered psd file, almost everything that I create in Dimension finds it's way into Photoshop for further editing 😊

Good tutorial but where is the rendered result?
Your accent makes this very pleasant to listen to, btw 😁
To skip render time, you can snap that photo with snipping tool. If you zoom in, you'll get almost the same quality.
