Our family visited Kyoto in January this year. We love being there, and have visited 10times over the past 37 years. This time we brought our grown up grandchildren and we all wished that we had a house there to stay for much longer visits and that we could be there more often. We left on January 25 th during the big snow. It was certainly an experience to see. Good luck with your new building project. I look forward to seeing it proceed. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🌸🌸
Yay! thanks for the update. I get excited every time I see that you've posted a new vid. Keep up the good work. Definitely good and enjoyable information.
Congratulations on your daughter's leveling up and to your family's life milestones! Thanks for the update, it was nice getting the notif of this new video. We will wait for the house tour but do take your time 😊
I like the TAX increase it will force Cities to either remove the house or find a buyer. It will also make it easier for a foreigner to buy a house if they pay the tax lien.
Thank you for the akiya news, and congrats to you and your family, the personal news was all quite good! Your channel has really inspired me! I am putting myself on a roughly five year plan and timeline to gain PR in Japan, and somewhere between here and there (probably 3-4 years from now) I hope to buy and restore a Meji era or earlier kominka. Right now I think the only reasonable way for me to gain PR will be a startup or investment visa. I think I have a good idea for a startup that would benefit from being based in Japan. I just wanted to say thank you, your channel is very inspiring and motivating for me.
Thank you Jonathan for your kind words. I am glad that the videos were helpful to you...and best of luck on your five year plan to get a PR in Japan & kominka restoration. Would be excited to know your progress and do let me know if there's anything I can help with.
@@GoodOldHousesJapan Thank you! I am planning to get a startup or business investor visa, which is going to take a bit of planning, though I do have a business idea that is perfectly suited to a home base in Japan, so I am confident it is a matter of planning and time. When I am closer to securing a resident visa, you are going to be the first person I talk to regarding a house. :)
Hi I am so glad you're back my wife myself my two brothers their wives my nephew's we were all worried that you wasn't going to be coming back now that you're back I want to listen for music that I will be in Japan and Kyoto around the first part of the middle part of June or maybe the first week in July I'm hoping maybe possible that I can meet with you and you can get me started on male machida house my brother my nephews and my they want to come to Japan to and invest and we are looking for someone and now that you're back I'm hoping it'll be you that can help us in a sisters so please keep up the good work and don't don't run off and hide no more us all nervous so keep up the good work
This is interesting news! It looks like the government is noticing that it has a problem AND a potential solution in selling akiya and then taxing them.
Thanks for the information. 🙂So it means many owners will be quickly looking to dump their old Akiya before the tax kicks in, selling it off at low prices maybe to unsuspecting foreigners or foreigners who are willing to pay these taxes.
Hello, Steven. We have watched several of your videos on Japanese traditional houses and efforts towards their preservation. We are now enjoying a return visit to Kyoto and will be trying a kyōmachiya to experience this housing style that we admire. We do hope that more of these houses are preserved and continue to serve as lovely homes for individuals and families. We wondered if you will be conducting the tour of your machiya work in the next week or two. Apart from that, it would also be of interest to meet with you about possible consulting you might do if we pursued a machiya project for personal residential use. We hope that you inspire more people in Japan (and elsewhere) to consider machiya living and keeping these historical assets part of Japan’s housing stock.
Hi T Bits, thank you for the kind words! I will be away from Kyoto between 4/27~5/6, but if you are still in Kyoto after 5/6 I'm happy to meet and talk. Please enjoy your time in Kyoto! You can also reach me at fumi.wen88@gmail.com
Welcome back! Congrats on your exciting family news :) This news is actually pretty good for us! I'll reach out again by email as I'd love to do some kind of RUclips Collab :)

Great information. Congratulations on your daughter starting school! 🎉 Looking forward to your renovation tour.
That view was nice from your office. Would love to be able to have a view like that while working. Love being able to see mountains in the distance

No problem! The tax is actually also meant to get tax from vacation home owners who don't live in Kyoto as well 😂

Hello! We are interested in getting a house in Japan, anyway we can contact you to share more details?
Hi Estella, you can reach me at fumi.wen88@gmail.com
Hi, I understand that only a PR can apply for an akiya loan. But, can any foreigner own an akiya?
Yes foreigner can buy and own an akiya (vacant home) without a PR.
@@GoodOldHousesJapan if a foreigner buys an akiya, does he or she gets a visa to stay in Japan to renovate and ultimate live there?
@@kweenahgan1725 No unfortunately having a house in Japan does not give the owner any kind of special visa status.
I'm curious, has anyone here purchased an Akiya?
I think that loan information in not relevant to foreigners as they have 0% chance of securing a loan 😂😂😂
I have heard of non-residents securing a loan...very rare though so I consider it a urban legend 😂
