2:30 that would have been cool to have all the characters rallying you during the final boss. even the cave of bad dreams guy is saying he'll make a statue of you lmao. it would have been good for razorbeard to taunt you more as well. also i wonder what 'the dream team' option would have been in the cave of bad dreams
Oh, no I didn't know that. Have you got a picture showing that render from the magazine? That sounds quite interesting! So that's the textures I found with the same names as Ssssam?
I never saw him as an enemy in the game really. More along the line of the Guardians who just have their duty of protecting a valuable item. Jano never actually put Rayman in any real danger as the Cave of Bad Dreams appears to be a sort of hallucination Rayman experiences in order to make the decision near the end of to chose the treasure or elixir.
I doubt he would have appeared in the final boss, but I think you as a player would have seen the dialog boxes of all your allies encouraging you. But yeah, I get what you mean, and I think ti would have been great to have all character return at the end for the finale.
Yeah, realized that afterwards (they appear in all versions, except maybe the PS1 version - can't remember since that one was pretty different). On desktop you can see the annotations I put up there.
@@RayCarrot The 'Free Dumping'' isn't in the PS1 version because it's found in the beach part of the Sanctuary Of Water And Ice which is completely absent on PS1. They merged the level with Whale Bay on that version
1:43-They probably changed Sam to being fully organic to stick with the whole theme of ''Robots and metal things are evil in this game'' 2:39-''Im not afraid of you'' is actually used in the game. Also the ''What i'm made of quote''......dammit Razorbeard this isn't Sonic Heroes! 3:06-The sign about Ly was clearly supposed to be used in the Fairy Glade. The piranha farm one was probably going to be used in the area of a level where there's piranha infested water. The free dumping and elite troop ones are used in the game. 3:39-''No not the whip!'' Jesus! Either that gonna be used in a Razorbeard cutscene where Razorbeard decides to have Spyglass(the lackey pirate)whipped as punishment or it gonna was be used at the start when we see all the prisoners in cages? 3:48-So Polokus wasn't originally the one to destroy all the pirates that weren't on the ship? 4:07-Robo Rats would've been an interesting concept and enemy to fight, too bad there's no concept art or unused models of them. 4:13-The demo names for the 2nd and 3rd sanctuaries sound better and more logical than in the final game.
I'd say the reason that there are no models of "Robo Rats" is that it's just a mistranslation of the phrase "les robots rôdent", in which "rôdent" is a verb, but happens to be spelled almost the same as an English noun. Obviously they caught that before release, unlike some of the subtler mistranslations…

O_O... I guess only in English versions.. because I didn't notice any differences in my German strategy guid :O :B and that they swapped the names of Umber and Foutch is pretty interesting in my opinion :O... morbide_tst could either be a Tomb of the Ancients test level or just a test-level were you are weak or just not strong..at least it means something like this in German "morbid" is an old German-word for weak, very ill or almost dead.. and before I'll write about my thoughts about the Tomb of the Ancients secrets you showed, I'll do a short break xD... I mean.. how long am I commentating now? feels like almost 2 hours O_q
I think I'll respond to each comment one by one :P And no problem about spamming or anything, I love reading long comments as well :D 1) That's what I've been wondering as well... Was there ever going to be a puzzle needing 3 spheres or was it just meant to replace another one? Maybe it was just there for testing? 2) Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if they were actually meant to appear in the original PC version but didn't for some reason and then when it was ported to the PS1 the new developers found them in the files and decided to use it. Regarding electoons that would have been interesting actually... It's so random that in most versions you just free Lums from the cages :/ I like how in the PS1 and the PS2 versions you actually free creatures and spirits rather than just... Lums. 3) I agree, they feel more like they'd fit the first game rather than Rayman 2. 4) That's always confused me as well... I always thought it was because they didn't bother making a baby Globox icon for just that cutscene, but then I found it in the files... So, why was it never used? :O It seemed to fit very well when I replaced the textures... It wasn't until the PS2 version I believe that they fixed that, and then they even created a new icon wit one baby Globox rather than 3... 5) Yeah, not much to say really about the arrow keys. I also appreciate the details added. Too bad they never got used, though I hate it when games tell you to "use the arrow keys to move" etc. I mean, that's so obvious :P 6) I also like the old font, but I think the newer one is easier to read. I fee like this old one would be a bit distracting in long sentences. I could maybe try replacing the new on with this old one some day... 7) Hm, I don't remember much from the bonus level in the PS1 version, but if it's similar to an enemy there it'd be very interesting! I've always been very curious on how the 2D Rayman 2 was going to be like...
Wow, too many impressions, mate :D Nice collections of stuff that's mostly new to me! I'd pay €100,- for a remastered version of Rayman 2 with hand-drawn graphics like these @ 1:56 :) Wow!
There's not enough known unused content for Rayman 3 for it to be worth making an entire video. If more is discovered I'll most likely make a video for Rayman 3 as well :)
RayCarrot it'd be nice if you made ome on Rayman 3 but most of the stuff is unused textures from the HD version which show like more than 10 scrapped creatures like snails, crows and a lot of other weird things, but not a lot of models..
RayCarrot i find it so interesting that those lums seen is the unused was reused in the ps1 version, it appears the ps1 version is probably the most closest version to the beta, heck it wouldnt suprise me if they took te beta engine and just moved around levels a bit
The PS1 version may have been in development a while, so they only had the early beta to go by when trying to make it run on the PS1. As the PC and N64 versions started coming together and they noticed how different it was they may have been more willing to add new content, such as dialogue, to better fit the beta elements. That's however only a guess. Maybe they simply used these beta elements since they were lower quality and would more easily work on the PS1.
According Michel Ancel himself, Rayman 2 began development on the Dreamcast. It was hen switched over to the N64 which made him sad since the textures needed to be downgraded. He said he was happy when a Dreamcast port was finally made on which they could reuse all the old high quality textures. Also, the PS1 version was made by a completely different team, so I highly doubt it began development there. Well, unless Michel Ancel wasn't at all the creator of the game and he just was responsible for the first released version, which seems rather odd.
Who is Eig? He doesn't do anything much in the Dreamcast port. I think he has more in PS2 but that is a remake. There is some prototype footage that he is in. Did they not have a enough time?
I think that the fish thing also pops up in the 3ds version. But that version sucks, you can't get a "try again", the music becomes earrape, the 3d is terrible and when you look around in first person the sky moves the way you look in some levels, and the 1000th lum softlocks the game.
You mean Eig? Yes, I think he appears in the 3DS and iOS versions since they are ports of the Dreamcast one. It's however been a while since I played the 3DS version.
Sure, but as I said those are just minor things we don't know so much about. Nothing worth making an entire video about. If there's ever more unused content found for those games I'll definitely make one though. :)
Not really rushed, but near the end of the development I think they started running out of time as some things which never made it into the game was added in later ports, such as the Dreamcast, PS1 and PS2 versions.
No, this is the order: PC/N64 - Dreamcast - PS1 - PS2 - DS - iPhone - 3DS So the PC version, along with the N64 version, was the original one. The Dreamcast version is like the PC version but with a lot of the cut content added.
Can't believe this masterpiece of a game was made by only 80 people.
80 people was a lot back then. Most games had only like 20.

It's been so long since I organized this, but I know for sure that the part about the whip was from the intro when Globox gets dragged into the cell.

I know he wakes up after the cave of bad dreams...but you can dream that you wake up in your dream... I just had this last night xD... dream-ception xP
about the "Robo-Rats"-thing... rats (so the animals) are varmints...and you could use the term to insult someone..I don't think that the Robo-Pirates were Robo-Rats before ....I think it's just to offend the pirates :B
about the changed names 04:13 : in strategy guides you said?
I think I'll respond to each comment one by one :P And no problem about spamming or anything, I love reading long comments as well :D
1) That's what I've been wondering as well...
I mean, that's so obvious :P
6) I also like the old font, but I think the newer one is easier to read.
DO YOU KNOW RAYMAN 2?
we did know indeed.
;)
Wow, too many impressions, mate :D Nice collections of stuff that's mostly new to me! I'd pay €100,- for a remastered version of Rayman 2 with hand-drawn graphics like these @ 1:56 :) Wow!
Thanks :) I'd also love to see a remake of Rayman 2 and that art style would indeed be interesting!
0:07 Yes i now Rayman 2 but I doesn't play this game.
Thanks for putting all this together in one place! :D Can you do one of Rayman 3?
There's not enough known unused content for Rayman 3 for it to be worth making an entire video. If more is discovered I'll most likely make a video for Rayman 3 as well :)
RayCarrot it'd be nice if you made ome on Rayman 3 but most of the stuff is unused textures from the HD version which show like more than 10 scrapped creatures like snails, crows and a lot of other weird things, but not a lot of models..
Wasnt the unused ship level seen in any early trailers for rayman 2?
4:25 with rayman control panel you can change control in rayman 2
Yeah I know, I'm the one who made the tool 😛
@@RayCarrot rly i like it its useful
@@RayCarrot
i wonder big the pirson ship really is. proably 10 km
It's actually tiny: ruclips.net/video/asTBcSVBq70/видео.html :P

Great video, keep it up!
Thanks!
the red sphere base is used in sanctuary of water and ice
It's a different red which is more orange in color. This red one I showed isn't used anywhere.
RayCarrot i have had beliefs ps1 started before n64/pc, PS1 may be the original rayman 2
On 4:27 do those levels still exist in the game's files?
No
Interesting, what they were supposed to look like?
No idea
What music is being used at the start of the video
Back then i always called razorbeard razorbread xddd..
lmao
@@RayCarrot funny right? Idk what was i thinking. I felt like beard more like BrEaD
@@RayCarrot also are you planning on making a vid of rayman origins? Pretty please?? 😢
@@YourLogo523 You mean for unused content? Probably not anytime soon, sorry.
@@RayCarrot ok i mean like mod showcases.
So how do I find the game files for rayman 2?
You can browse them using the Rayman Control Panel
@@RayCarrot but how?
- Locate your installation of Rayman 2
- Press the drop-down button for Rayman 2 and go to the options
- Go to the Utilities tab
- Open the archive
@@RayCarrot Oh thanks!
You should do the same with rayman 1 or 3 :)
There's not that much unused content known for those games sadly enough and not that many decoding tools for the files.
For rayman 3 many contents got unused
Like what? I only know of some minor things which wouldn't be worth making an entire video about.
The xowar and other creatures?
Sure, but as I said those are just minor things we don't know so much about. Nothing worth making an entire video about. If there's ever more unused content found for those games I'll definitely make one though. :)
Wow, so much cut content. But I don't understand why was all that removed? It's not like the PC version was rushed or anything, right?
Not really rushed, but near the end of the development I think they started running out of time as some things which never made it into the game was added in later ports, such as the Dreamcast, PS1 and PS2 versions.
Wait, aren't the PS1 and PS2 versions before the PC one?
No, this is the order:
PC/N64 - Dreamcast - PS1 - PS2 - DS - iPhone - 3DS
So the PC version, along with the N64 version, was the original one. The Dreamcast version is like the PC version but with a lot of the cut content added.
DeltaGem It’s laggy and at 480i. It’s more of a Director’s Cut version, with the Dreamcast being the definitive version.
RayCarrot PC and N64 were released on the same day in the EU, and the N64 version was released 1 day after the PC port in NA.
Can I download the ripped textures?
I uploaded most of them to RayWiki:

What is the music at the end of the video?
raytunes.raymanpc.com/music/R2/144%20-%20(Extra)%20Teaser%20Music.mp3
May i have the Artwork pictures?
I uploaded the files to the wiki: raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Rayman_2_(early_production)
Let me know if there's anything you're missing from there.
Nice video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙋
Thanks!
If you have an Discord Server about Rayman 2, can you invite me?
We have a modding server for all Rayman games. Let me know when you've used the link so I can remove it: (removed)
I used it, but why would you remove it? Is it because the invite will be invalid?
@@jessenikulus9676 Last time I made the link public we got a bunch of trolls which started spamming.

Vilken låt är denna? :)
Tackar! :D
