So there's been a lot of comments saying things like " is used during/at/for". All of these objects are NOT used at all. They are not placed in any level or created through other means (except where noted). Please keep that in mind!
If you're still reading comments from these videos, I think I watched a video explaining the possibility that Beach Bowl and Sea Slide were combined sometime during development but eventually separated. You seem to have Whitehole setup, something I've spent countless hours doing but failing every step of the way. Perhaps you might be able to look into combining the two galaxies together in the editor.
Making a 3d level creator is quite the task seeing you need to make a good camera you need to make everything 3d and you would have to reskins every 3d object to a certain theme then music enemies and a lot more and for super Mario galaxy you would need to have a gravity setting and a lot more.
That land mine item seems fully functional. It's fully modelled, textured, animated, and even has it's own sounds. I guess they just never found a good place to use it.
There are many times when perfectly fine things are removed for just not wanting to put it in. This goes for the spring in SM64 and such, and correct me if I'm wrong but there was an entirely working enemy in a certain Mario game, I believe Sunshine or 64, that wasn't ever used.
That would probably be good in the sixth dome, because that's the only dome to have four galaxies, and does not have a grand star either. Probably Nintendo considered it worthless, because there's nothing else to unlock. Just put the garage out of reach to where it can only be reached when near the sixth dome, and then the grand star from the sixth dome can unlock it. Was that the name of the starting place? I thought the starting place was garage. It's also strange to be able to reach it from the teleporter near the fifth dome. The red star could still get a chance to be used when trying to go to the galaxies with the purple coins, because they appear after beating Bowser in the center of the universe, and I think all the other power stars had to be collected. I got all the power stars available before going to the center of the universe.
Something really weird about the crystal switch: I once had a dream like 8 years ago where I was playing Mario Galaxy and there was a secret boss where you had to hit crystals in a certain order to beat it. The texture, model and animation were EXACTLY the same. And at the time I had no idea that games had unused objects.
I can imagine the pole without the model would be used for allowing mario to climb up collisionless pole-like objects, like a lollipop stick or something. It probably wasn't used because they found a way to make something climbable on it's own. idk though
I think that the "UFOBlueStarCapsule" was to be used in Space Junk Galaxy, like the planets with blue stars inside. Unused objects and things are always interesting and it's fun to try to guess what the objects suppose to did (maybe is only me XD). Sorry for my bad english :)
I guess that the developers most likely forgot about that object. It's fully functional and it really fits in Space Junk Galaxy. Also, nothing's wrong with your comment, lul.
Well, developers tend to forget about certain things. It reminds me of that one time when Blast Corps' game designer was asked about my unused findings in that game, heh. That was during a AGDQ speedrun.
"This is the only object from SMG1 used in SMG2" Just a few objects later "This was later used in SMG2" Anyone has an extremely complicated and nerdy way of explaining this?
A new Aurum video is basically like a religious experience for me, especially when it's Galaxy related. Thank you for the tireless work you do in bringing this stuff to the masses.
I think it was probably from early versions of the Bowser fight where you're supposed to make him ground pound into the land mines instead of the glass with lava underneath, especially since it has the Bowser logo on it.
Fun fact: that starry sky model near the beginning of the video that went unused had some green in it, which would actually represent the presence of oxygen in a nebula that would have been in front of the stars behind it, which is why that certain part of space would appear green. Oxygen has a tendency to reradiate or reflect light in the green portion of the spectrum, which is also why aurorae often have many streaks of green lights in them. Oxygen in the atmosphere is excited by light energy from the sun, and the oxygen reradiates that energy in the green portion of the spectrum. Carbon does the same except it reradiates light in the red portion of the spectrum. The more you know. I didnt do a Google search to find that out, I actually just really like space and everything about it. Inspired by this specific game, which brings this full circle. Also did that weird flamethrower thing have the face of a bulldog? Why? Oh it's a HOT-dog... wait a minute that's an enemy in Yoshi's Woolly World! Neat to know that this unused enemy eventually was used (in a Wii U game but still).
It's true, the behavior is similar, but this effect isn't caused by the object mentioned in this video. Thus, it's unused. Btw, this also exists in SMG2 under the name DashChargeArea.
if you crouch at the beginning of a cosmic race and press a as the countdown hits go mario will start running twice his normal speed for around a second. its just something to help with the races also he glows yellow during the boost.
Ustoleit's cat Perilous That actually makes perfect sense, while it is creepy, it doesn't look threatening therefore it wouldn't blend in on Metroid, Pikmin however has more cartoony monsters which means that it can blend in with it
14:31 I believe that's an effect used for when something such as dirt or sand is directly above--or acting as--the ceiling. You'll notice it's called "dust", which would fit with the tiny particles that rain down, rather than tiny shooting stars.
To this day I find the soundtrack and art direction so incredible for Galaxy. I think I played this game the least, but it still left a huge impression.
I have tried doing this before. Unfortunately, all the unused content are only found in the “list of objects” file. The object data is deleted, so in game, there is nothing, no collision, etc. The only things that remain are the object names

I reckon that landmine would've been a great game-play aspect. I can imagine a stretch of land in which there's 2 mines in a row with no breathing room, and Mario must triple jump off them to reach somewhere. It would also give another use for the star bits and pointer, as deactivating them with star bits would be very useful for those intimidated by them. There could even be a low passage leading to a secret star that can be only passed by walking over deactivated mines, so if you have no star bits, you can't get the secret star (without getting damaged, at least). It's a hungry luma without the hungry luma.

I'd love to see custom levels with things like DashChargeCylinder (12:21) cause it could bring unique concepts that the base game never really touches on
I think a lot of these were test objects but most of them were for designed levels or segments that got scrapped or revised to not include them in the process of asset being made.
My money is on star 2 for melty molten. The level starts off with a cinder theme, with the whole torch lighting thing. A shame they decided to ditch that for another ball rolling section
12:21 The "DashChargeCylinder" may have actually been used in the game. If you press A in a cosmic race right as it starts, you get a dash with that same effect. I'm not sure if it's an AoE like this one, but it's possible that they may have used that to make the dash work.
MirrorModelPeachCastle and MirrorReflectionPeachCastle were supposed to be used in the lake in the beggining of the game and funny enough reflects the camera and NOT like how real life reflections work. EDIT: The lake at the start has the same "reflection" rule.
It's just amazing how you (and others who may have helped) found all of these out! It's also amazing how much there still isn't documented about both games (other than objects, like code and etc.) Awesome video!
"Dashchargecylinder" is actually an object within the game: When racing the cosmic clones via comet you can boost yourself at the beginning of the race. Note that it makes Mario turn YELLOW and boosts him for a temporary time!!!
12:23 In fact, the item named "DashChargeCylinder" is used : when you do a turbo start in a Shadow Comet, Mario glows in yellow and runs faster, so he takes an advantage on Shadow Mario !!
I reckon the “RevolvingWay” would be used as something u could turn with the pointer and travel across planets, similarly to the nut things in dreadnought just with different controls
It could be because they had a certain deadline for the game and adding that stuff in would take time. Or it didn’t look like smgs art style. Or it has the same function as something else that’s already in the (the switches.)
I think that the Revolting thing or whatever was supposed to be a wheel that mario would get caught in maybe float in it and you drag it around from left to right.
That are values and little actions assigned to every object to make it do something in a certain way, meeting a certain condiction or do it on another object
this is one of those videos that if I had seen it as a 14 year old I would have not understood and thought all these were a weird glitch you could do without modifying your game. I'd like just try to recreate all the minute details of what they did before entering bowser's galaxy reactor thinking it was just a super specific way you have to move or something
I think they swapped out the peach's castle mirror with a upside down model of the kingdom from what I can tell (to pull off the mirror effect obviously)
What did you use to design these areas, and where did you find the files? Did you have to edit any collision anythig? I want to know, so I can potentially make levels
So there's been a lot of comments saying things like " is used during/at/for". All of these objects are NOT used at all. They are not placed in any level or created through other means (except where noted). Please keep that in mind!

the tsukidashikunbig looks like something from roblox
Ikr
Corndog Bike what time was it at?
Idk
True, didn't notice that
That's what I was thinking, lol.
The big bomps NEED to be in a Bowser Jr. castle!
Some of the objects exist in the sequel because it was gonna be 1.5 not 2 with some of the unused content being there
It's pretty interesting that there are objects that are completely modeled, animated, and working that still didn't get used.
Why the developers let these unfinished things?
They probably left it there if they ever wanted to use it.
TTcraft 800 [fr] they don't know if they'll use it so once the game is complete they don't have time to go back and remove the unused things.
XxEpicDuckxX okay thx
Correct Answer:
1. They couldn't find a use for it
2. It was limited by the games compatibility
3. Used tl much game data
It could be because they had a certain deadline for the game and adding that stuff in would take time. Or it didn’t look like smgs art style. Or it has the same function as something else that’s already in the (the switches.)
Someone make a level using these, please
5:48 i like how all the stars have smaller stars flying around it
One of my favorite videos on Super Mario Galaxy
All of these should of been in the game
Technically speaking, they are, just not accesible by normal playing.
No, they should not of been in the game.
However, they should HAVE been in the game
Im glad they removed flamegun
And there are some objects that technecly did make into the game but they were unfinished
Music in the end???
I think its Yoshi's Island remix
I think that the Revolting thing or whatever was supposed to be a wheel that mario would get caught in maybe float in it and you drag it around from left to right.
The turtle beam kamek was used I'm pretty sure in a bowser jr airship fight where you had to get the shells and fire them at him 1:53
Wonder what Obj_args are...
I'm gonna assume that it's short for Object Arguments. It probably specifies what a certain instance of the object should do.
That are values and little actions assigned to every object to make it do something in a certain way, meeting a certain condiction or do it on another object

Some of those planets were used at the 2006 E3 demo, pretty cool that they never left the game
The one where Mario runs faster and glows in yellow is him when he has to take a piss
8:53 seems like Mario took a chunk of green hill zone

aplastic soldier SEARCH IT AND WATCH IT
Finally, we have a video showcasing this stuff. Thanks!
Ahh, well this is curious! Nice upload. Gotta love unused/TCRF-like content.
Upload in widescreen and HD its 2017
Lies its 2018
But SMG is a Wii game from 2007. The Wii is 480p and not widescreen.
Cipollotto 16 Bit uh it actually IS wide-screen but its 640:480p resolution
Widescreen is useless if you have a 4:3 monitor
Some of those unused planets look like some that are used in the official game.
those weird bomps look like something straight out of Unturned
>:(
this is one of those videos that if I had seen it as a 14 year old I would have not understood and thought all these were a weird glitch you could do without modifying your game. I'd like just try to recreate all the minute details of what they did before entering bowser's galaxy reactor thinking it was just a super specific way you have to move or something
It's like in paper Mario colour splash where you have to build a train track out of toads
I love finding out about this kind of stuff; makes you think about what could have been. Also, who did the Yoshi's Island remix; I love that too.
I think they swapped out the peach's castle mirror with a upside down model of the kingdom from what I can tell (to pull off the mirror effect obviously)
Man super mario galaxy was a great game this gives me do much nostalgia
DashChargeCylinder is used, it can be triggered before starting the Cosmic races but it's hidden and I only learned about it through Nintendo power.
The land mine was so cool! I wish it was kept in the game...
What did you use to design these areas, and where did you find the files? Did you have to edit any collision anythig? I want to know, so I can potentially make levels
Game Producer 1: What should we do with this?
Game Producer 2: JUST SHUT UP AND SCRAP IT!!!
Game Producer 3: We should have added a Yellow Beetle!
