Been looking into this job on my 6.7 and I have to say your video is by far the best I’ve seen. The fact that you go the extra mile and take out your wheel well for the viewer to get a better view and you tackle the block drain plug just to see if it’s worth it, really shows that you care about you viewers, you’ve got another subscriber. Thanks for the awesome vid man.
You are the man. If you don't have the tool you make the tool. I'm not going in debt buying tools. I find myself modifying my tools all the time to fit a job that only has to be done once
I used to do that one for one when pouring water and coolant, then a buddy fixed my ocd brain. Told me a 50/50 mix is 2 gallons and 2 gallons no matter what sequence you pour them. Glad to see I’m not the only one that does it that way!
Very nice job! I have a 2016. Haven’t done coolant yet. You taking the time doing this video in such detail will definitely save me some time. Thanks. 🤝
Thanks for the video very helpful, Completed mine 10/14/22, When draining after the coolant stopped flowing on it's own I used a blow gun to pressurize the fill tanks and was able to get maybe another 1.5 gallons out without removing the block plug or heater. All and all I was able to get out 7.7 gallons or 30.8 quarts of the 32 QT capacity. I refilled without the vacuum device, warmed it up and drove it a short distance adding coolant as required. Now I will monitor it for a week to ensure more air has not come out requiring additional coolant.🤩
thanks for the vid. that vacuum tool was worth the price of admission. Bought one for the garage for less than the cost of the dealership to do this work for me.
Finally a perfect video that shows how to do a proper coolant flush, I seen other videos, and they are absolutely garbage. Yours is perfect brother, thank you. I’m a subscriber now,
Good video. Very detailed and clean job. I did my 2016 6 months ago and I went the flush route. I drained coolant, pulled thermostat (was replacing with low temp) refilled with distilled and let run for awhile and then drained water, replaced new thermostat and refilled with fresh coolant.
I add to the previous accolades. Most informative video I have viewed. This is worth recommending to my fellow powerstroke owners. I will be looking forward future videos. Thanks for the good job.
good job bro. you were very detailed step for step. others wouldn't know about draining the oil cooler. only thing i don't do is that extra fanciness of using the vacuum system.
Very informative, my 2011 states 29 quarts initial factory fill. Have done this once and am ready to do again. The vacuum system will save you from adding a gallon the next day.
Be sure and read the capacity and specifications section in your owners manual. A coolant additive is also required. My 2017 calls for Motorcraft Coolant additive VC-12 for Orange Engine Coolant Revitalizer although that may have changed if the Yellow coolant is the new and proper coolant. Good video, learned a lot.
Very thorough video, thanks 🙏 Looking forward to seeing more, like trans & diff fluids. As well as any codes that come up from BCM or PCM. Thanks again 👍🏼
Amazing tutorial I’m a first time diesel owner and want to get in the habit of working on my own truck a 2015 ford f-250 6.7 you’re the best man made everything look so simple. 1 question for the vacuum pump it’s not really necessary right? Just to check for potential leaks???? Ty again
Although it’s not necessary it is recommended by ford because it gets all the air out of the cooling system. When air gets trapped in the cooling system it causes cavitation which starts to breakdown the aluminum on the front cover where the way pump goes in.
Excellent video. Seems to be pretty complicated compared to the older vehicles systems. I had a 2001 7.3 powerstroke that was way easier. Once again manufactuers just want you to bring it in to their service department for a high dollar fluid change.
Question, I have a 2019 same Ford pickup with the engine block heater. Do I really need to drain the heater connection too? It seems a lot to get to it. Thanks for the video, great job! God Bless, and be safe. 👌🇺🇸
Of the 7.5 gallons that drained, how much do you think came out at the block heater/lower drain. Im wondering if it is worth the hassle, rather than doing a drain/fill (both systems and the pil cooler line), driving a month or so, and doing a 2nd drain/fill and call it good. It is a great video with what seems like a lot of work, and the system still had old coolant in it (presumably from EGR cooler).
After pulling the block drain plug and heater I’d say only about 2-3 quarts is all that came out so I’d say not really worth it. Originally I was hoping more would have came out but oh well. I think you’d be fine doing it the way you described and yes there was still a little left in the egr cooler that you can’t get out.
First and foremost, great video. I just wanted to let you know that you showed all the locations required to drain the radiator fluid. Very detailed and straightforward. We could use more videos like yours. My main issue is, how in the @#$% did you turn that secondary petcock so quickly? Who are you? Thor? It took me a couple of hours to get that little thing to cooperate. Seriously, though, fantastic video. Thank you very much for your commitment to detail.
Great video!! I going to do this on a f350 2017 and just had a couple questions. You know any advise that can give you an edge on the track is great. Where can I email?
Very Impressive! This man has the patience of a Saint and so calm like taking a stroll in the park. Damn!!!! I want that! lol I was waiting and wondering if and when you were going to cut that Allen Key head down, and you did!! Bravo. Ford Engineers be like: Gonna make sure you use every tool in your toolbox and fab some to work too. lol Thanks for sharing BCG, enjoyed it and learned a lot. Cheers from Motown/Dearborn.
Another good video man! Can a guy mix the concentrate and then followed by distilled water gallon by gallon by just pouring into the over flow? Also, around your transmission mine seems to have the same leak/weep. Do you know what’s causing yours
You can do it that way for the first few gallons because it will all mix in eventually. Just be careful when it starts to get full then you’ll want to premix the rest so you get an equal mixture. As far as the leak this is a buddy of mines truck and haven’t looked into the leak yet.
I think I'll drain both radiators, refill both with distilled, run it, and then drain that and refill a second time with the 50/50. My new to me 2012 has never been drained, but it only has 25k on it.
Thanks for the video very helpful. I’ll be ordering the refill tool from Amazon. Also..I see that Amazon sells the Ford coolant for $28 but I was able to get it at my local Ford dealership for $20 if anyone is interested in saving $40 or more.
Another job well done it’s great that you are not afraid of doing the extra steps to do it right! That vacuum setup is the way to go if your in a position to get one of those rigs 👍🏻
Thanks. I actually over bought because I wasn’t sure how much would come out. So to do both primary and secondary you’ll be safe buying 5 gallons of concentrated coolant and mixing it with 5 gallons of distilled water. It’s always better to have more than not enough.
This was a great, detailed video. Thanks for taking the time to put this out there for us! Where is a good place to get rid of the old coolant? I know auto parts stores will accept old oil, but I don't think they recycle coolant there.

Just by squeezing the upper radiator hose while filling and overtime it should work it’s way out. Just need to keep checking the level in the morning for a couple days after it cools.
