Hail to RUclips algorithm for bringing me here (from Gojira's Olympics show)! I already knew Satyricon but had never seen this absolutely stellar performance. WOW, WOW, WOW! Unbelievable. I must have watched it ten times in a row...Truly mind-blowing.
Powerful stuff! It would be VERY interesting to get some feedback from the Opera singers. Like if they ever heard of the metal scene, how they found their performance, what they think of the ambience etc. It'd be awesome. I'm not the only one, right?
"Die By My Hand" They ride the winds Avoiding resistance Choosing not to fight Wanting to live To lie another day Pale figures in life And so in death... A painful existence Wanting so much Yearning to be You know you lose And I'm glad it hurts Die by my hand As close as you'll ever get Die by my hand Accept defeat and find peace You seek the truth That you define Waving the flag Of the pitiful (kind) You could never prepare For my battle cry Die by my hand As close as you'll ever get Die by my hand Accept defeat and find peace Great Band!!! ImI.
I have to question if some of you do not understand the history of Black Metal all that well. Many many bands used keyboards to imitate these kinds of sounds, including, what is in my opinion, the big three, Emperor, Dimmu, and of course Satyricon. That original sound from that time period was heavily influenced by classical elements, the simple fact was though they could not afford an actual orchestra or opera, so they imitated these sounds of say violin on a cheap Casio instead. Many of the best albums would have had these components if the resource was available to the artist.
Patrick Bertlein Actually, Di'anno may be considered "forefather" of some proto-black metal, at least as much as Venom can. I think early Maiden was very important in the formation of the darker metal subgenres.
As a fan of black metal and also Satyricon, I've been waiting for the band to perform with a orchestra for a long time. I'm sooo glad that they finally had the time and the resources to put this together, it is a tremendous effort and sounds great! Satyicon can sell out venues in any given city in the western world, so it doesn't matter that 33 people who are not into the metal scene didn't like this video. I am looking forward to hearing what other classic Satyicon material sounds like with a choir! Amazing!
Norway, as a part of the few scandinavian black metal countries, is a perfect destination for every black metal fan. You have minimum three favourite Bands in the Top10 Charts there, we see Satyr is in talkshows on tv:)I like that. But i can also understand people, who say - that's too commercial. And black metal is underground. And it should stay underground. But i tell you - exactly commercial bands like Cradle, Dimmu, Immortal allow the existence of many many underground black metal bands all over the world. More black metal people is better for every single black metal fan here.Economics: more clients, more money, more quality - like this video:)Greetz from Germany
That is right only if we agree that black metal is still in its productive period, but we cannot agree to untrue claim. Well, many can, but not honest and logical people. It is mabye true that small and amateur bands will pop up all over the world becasue those big bands are so popular now, but then again, why we need copyists? One may say everyone would like to have its local black metal band, but it is still quantity over quality. Not very economical.
This sounds incredible! Love Satyricon and can't wait for the DVD... although I'd much prefer a bluray... Either way, I hope there's a 5.1 surround mix. This kind of performance needs to be immersive.
Christian Muhametov they got paid to be on stage that night and even if none of them likes BM, who would say no to sing such ez parts n be paid for it? :3 edit: they probably dont care much about what's being played, as long as they got the beat.
Christian Muhametov Do realize that the Opera is also from Norway. Black Metal is quite large in Norway because it practically all started there. It is the genre of their people. Most of them probably don't listen to it on normal occasions, but they all definitely know of it and what its about. Satyricon is also quite cherished in their country, because of all that reason. This is like performing with Rush in Canada. same shit.
MetalOfAllOwns Christian Muhametov Black metal is incredibly large in the north... And metal and classic music is close together. It has his both their epic parts...
Absolutely, that would be quite an experience. Just like why this Satyricon concert works so well is because it enhances the studio versions that we all know. With other bands like Dimmu Borgir and Septicflesh that have done these kind of shows I feel a tad disappointed because the songs feel almost identical to the album versions. Ofcourse, it would be amazing to see in person but as a live album it just doesn't quite cut it for me. But like you said, Emperor would fit right in with an orchestra and it would be utterly majestic. One can only dream...
That's so cool... the Intro sounds so much like Epica and I expected to see Simone Simons. But then I saw Satyr, and every time I see this guy I am like: Why the hell still I haven't drunk the "Wongraven"?
Dear Satyricon!:) This is the best piece you could have picked as "teaser" for this DVD. I adore Die By My Hand - a prime example off Nero - it flows grandiosely and epically. I'd usually shy from using the word "epic", since it's been overblown in metal, to the extent its meaning is gone - and yet we sense that meaning here, conveyed with depth and subtlety. It is enhanced by the chorus, melting genres to reassirt that music has no bounds, subject only to the imagination; furthermore, the choral lines make the intricate harmonic lines within the song stand out melodically. I also loved your 2006 sessions with the brass section; Satyr's compositional genius is emphasised by the wider employment of instruments and arrangements. I travel any chance I get to physically immerse myself in the world of Satyricon. Won't miss the upcoming tour, and the chance to pick the DVD and have it signed.
Great band! /m/ I saw Satyricon on 2003 live and load in the old Hard Club (Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto - Portugal) and they were amazing. I can´t wait to see them playing now on "Szene" Wien Österreich \m/
Be strong Satyr !! The listener world of black metal is indebted to you ... hope you can go ahead with all this is happening, many forces from Argentina, this news does not change anything in your life, you live it every day but with much more pleasure and if that damned is evil, teach what being evil .... Many forces SATYR. WE ARE WAITING IN ARGENTINA FOR A SECOND ROUND !!!
Hell yes this is awesome I was wondering when this would be finally released and now here it is going to preorder as soon as I can great job on the entire DVD
It's great metal will always sound better with opera great examples therion, dimmu, and people this is not a competition thethese more band we have like this the better for us listeners
great! looking forward to more! i feel a bit set back to times when blackish metal was new :D *hitting replay (after the great tour finally a song i would listen to also at home again)
This version is one of the most exciting metal I have seen in a while. TAON is a great album. Great work from the choir also, so please stop whining for once.
Sooo fucking amazing. Gives me goosebumps, that's how awesome it is with live choir. Although I would not be able to just sit there. Every time I hear black metal live, I wanna headbang and scream. I think it's pointless to make black metal concerts in operahouses, but I think it's neccessary for marketing purposes and maybe better recording quality.

Sooo good! I still miss the old Satyricon from "Dark Medieval Times" but even in their modern shape they are purely awsome.
Powerful stuff!
It would be VERY interesting to get some feedback from the Opera singers.
Like if they ever heard of the metal scene, how they found their performance, what they think of the ambience etc. It'd be awesome. I'm not the only one, right?
They all are norwegians..
There is a channel here of Elizabeth Zharoff, vocalist who reacts to some metal songs.
ruclips.net/user/TheCharismaticVoicefeatured
In Norway black metal exists in pop culture, so its pretty hard not to come across this music.
@@nicoverfaillie7631 He meant the actual people involved, dipshit. Not a garbage react channel.
"Die By My Hand"
They ride the winds
Avoiding resistance
Choosing not to fight
Wanting to live
To lie another day
Pale figures in life
And so in death...
A painful existence
Wanting so much
Yearning to be
You know you lose
And I'm glad it hurts
Die by my hand
As close as you'll ever get
Die by my hand
Accept defeat and find peace
You seek the truth
That you define
Waving the flag
Of the pitiful (kind)
You could never prepare
For my battle cry
Die by my hand
As close as you'll ever get
Die by my hand
Accept defeat and find peace
Great Band!!! ImI.
Thank you

Well said, hopefully people that don't understand why black metal bands teaming up with orchestras is a thing now will read this.
Thanks!
Black metal is perhaps the prime example of a successor of the Romantic movement, manifesting lyrically, musically, and visually.
Big time, it is much more Goethe and Liszt than Iron Maiden and hardcore Wrestling.
Patrick Bertlein Actually, Di'anno may be considered "forefather" of some proto-black metal, at least as much as Venom can. I think early Maiden was very important in the formation of the darker metal subgenres.

I agree
Well put.
i bet the opera singers went to church after the show
+Jaco Nel They're not opera singers. They're choirist. Not all "Symphonic" (for lack of a better word) is opera nor symphonique.
LOL. I wonder what they were thinking when they realized how dark this shit is compared to the stuff they consider music.
of course they went to church, to burn it!
Who cares what they did afterwards you fuckin idiot
I think most norwegians are not that religious.

Fuck Capitalism
This is amazing, never heard anything like this before.. this mix with metal and opera fits really well
Frost's double kick goes forever
Sounds epic. The choir added a lot to it for me, I've always loved metal and classical fusions, so this is pretty fuckin awesome! :)
SATYRICON HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE BAND FOR A VERY LONG TIME NOW AND I DON'T THINK ITS EVER GONNA CHANGE
Hail to Norway!!!!
much more better than studio version! \m/
Definitely.
Satyricon is the only band that’s so cool they don’t need big sunglasses
Wonderful, Wagner would be proud of Satyricon. Takk!
This sounds incredible! Love Satyricon and can't wait for the DVD... although I'd much prefer a bluray... Either way, I hope there's a 5.1 surround mix. This kind of performance needs to be immersive.
Always wondered how does those orchestra guys feel. I'm pretty sure none of them are into black metal or nowhere even near.

Christian Muhametov Yeah it is clear to see at 0:20 that she is absolutely hating being there.....you fucking stupid droll idiot
Bjorn Lottering It must suck going through life with no sense of humor.
I really wish Emperor would do this, not so much just opera but a full on orchestra would be totally boss imo.
Absolutely, that would be quite an experience. Just like why this Satyricon concert works so well is because it enhances the studio versions that we all know. The guitar, man that dud must have sold his soul, incredible.
Para ser la primera vez que escucho este tipo de música... es maravillosa! 👏🏽
Este tipo de Black metal es el mejor, aunque bueno, todo es cuestión de gustos
That's so cool... the Intro sounds so much like Epica and I expected to see Simone Simons. But then I saw Satyr, and every time I see this guy I am like: Why the hell still I haven't drunk the "Wongraven"?
Brilliant energy
