Acoustic Series Week Ten
The Airborne Toxic Event is an American rock band from the Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz that consists of singer and guitarist Mikel Jollett, guitarist and keyboardist Steven Chen, bassist Noah Harmon, drummer Daren Taylor, and violist Anna Bulbrook.
This is part four of a ten-part acoustic series in which each of the ten songs on the upcoming first record is performed acoustically in a different location. All of the videos are done in a single take.

The thing that I love about this band is that, in every performance they give, they put their whole heart into their music, into every song that they play. It's incredible.
Yes! And especially this song, Innocence, which they don't often play.
Listening to Airborne Toxic Event always feels like listening to a friend who understands what your going through. The music itself just feels so human.
I always love it when bands incorporate orchestral instruments as permanent components to their music. It adds a certain layer of depth that cant be reached with guitar and drums alone.
Heard "Sometime Around Midnight" on WBRU radio Providence, RI on Christmas Eve driving our daughter home. Frantically scribbled lyrics to look up later if the DJ didn't say who the band was. Ordered the CD the next day. What an incredibly gifted band. Love them even at age 60!!! Absolutely love the acoustic versions of their songs. Especially the additional lyrics for Innocence. Such a haunting song. Violin, lyrics, everything is just perfection.
I’ve had those same experiences. Same moments when I’m driving, and I hear a melody, a lyric that has; or that is having a profound impact in my mind, my body and soul at that moment and I am too ‘frantically’ trying to figure out what the song is called ❤️…. Thank goodness for modern tech on cars now, huh? 😅 It’s songs like these that are able to describe the most deepest of pain and emotions and feelings that our words cannot describe.

at a very low point in my life, i considered ending things quickly instead of letting my sickness take me slow, and I told my family in a letter that if they were ever sad for me, that i would be hiding in the sound if Annas violin, and the words Mikel sang. this song means more to me than T.A.T.E. will ever know, it's as if Mikel read my diary out loud and Anna played while he read. the pain you hear in his voice is a true deep pain that only someone who knows true deep pain can recognize...

I don't know if you're still reading these comments. I hope you are. I hope you pulled through those dark times and you're in a better place. This comment resonates with me because the reason this song means so much to me is that my girlfriend ended her own life. The first verse will always make me think of waking up the next morning, the first morning waking up without her. I do not know if that's what this song was written for, but it's what it is to me. Again, I hope you're still here and I hope you're okay.

This acoustic version is 1000000 times better than the studio release. Has more soul.
I saw them live at Loufest and paid for the VIP ticket so I was basically at the side of the stage for the set. Plus, Anna approached me in the VIP tent before the set because I had the wristband and was amazed I didn't know how they all looked but knew the music so well. I got to meet everyone except Steven. They are amazing. I felt stupid after I talked to Mikel because I hadn't read the reviews saying "poetry you can dance to" and told him "your lyrics remind me of poetry" and he just said okay. I did tell him this was my favorite because it's so complex.

You can tell how much he really gets into near the end of the video when he starts to lose his voice and he can still pull off that wicked high note at the very end.
They don't play this at their shows to often....was privileged to hear it live twice.

Since discovering this band not so very long ago,I keep telling family and friends how utterly brilliant they are and what an absolute hidden gem. I can’t really decide which is my favourite album,let alone my favourite song,but if pushed I would have to go for this one. This acoustic version, with the added lyrics at the start, simply blows my mind and makes me even more desperate to see them live. PLEASE come to the UK again, TATE❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
This was the first video I saw by these that started a journey of four albums and seeing them live four times. Amazing band.

That's a viola, actually! It's a bigger, mellower version of the violin with a lower range. It also happens to be the instrument I play, which is probably the only reason I'm commenting here :D
This band has given rock and roll a fresh face. I hope more people will embrace them.

I honestly don't think i can say how much i love this band and what a breath of fresh air they are from the generic pop bands which seem to fill the UK charts these days.
Song writing with honesty and passion tinted with humour and sadness. They truly are brillant and like most of us on here i think they're acoustic versions are better than their album tracks because of they can show more of their raw passion for playing.
Definitely going to see them while they are in the UK.

Found the album version of this a decade ago, and loved it immensely. Then found this version a few years back and have to come revisit it every few months. So beautiful. I'm so thankful to be alive to hear it.

I am a 51 year old grandfather, and am going to see them in Glasgow in November. Bargain of the century at £9 per ticket! (approx $12).

i love the fact that most their videos are them just playing "anywhere" and it ALWAYS sounds magnificent ...... but this song ...... this song has a very ....... and nevermind i just like it lol
ATE played at the concert venue I used to work at in Toronto, about 10 years ago. They lived in their bus parked on the street in front for 2 days, and came in to use our facilities. And I gotta say, they were the nicest bunch of kids, especially Mikel. And what a great show. I'd never head them and had no idea what to expect. A unique sound. Quite special.

Met these guys in person at lollapalooza downtown chicago, shook their hands and chatted about life for probably ten minitues. Pretty awesome to say the least.
Honestly, so infatuated with this band, I haven't had music make me feel so wonderful in such a long time. It's like falling in love for the first time.
I woke up. Middle of the night. Had to hear this again...and again...and again... Until my rain of tears turned into the happiness that has always been here inside. A beauty runs through my veins and this will NEVER GET OLD!!!! Thank you. Thank you for reminding me over and over that we have a purpose and you are such a part of it.
I really love these folks' music but I always get sad when I listen to it.

Anna is so captivating when she plays, and so incredibly talented. I saw them live back in october in St. Pete and they were amazing. It's so nice to have a band that can actually evoke strong emotion through their music. You don't find that to often now a days.

I always thought this song was so amazing. I really loved that it was the last song on the album, as it told a story from beginning to end and was very powerful and put a wrap on a superb album with such closure. There is such an artistic quality to this song.
I can't get over how great these guys are. This song is really everything i love in music. It has just the right amount of complexity, it's loaded with emotion, and it stops me in my tracks every time i hear it. I have been listening to it over and over again. Great job ABTE!

Amazing how they sincerely put their heart and soul into rendering this. Every band member's emotion seems to resonate with the feel of this song.
