LYRICS:
And it starts
Sometime around midnight
Or at least that's when
You lose yourself
For a minute or two
As you stand
Under the bar lights
And the band plays some song
About forgetting yourself for a while
And the piano's this melancholy sound check
To her smile
And that white dress she's wearing
You haven't seen her
For a while
But you know
That she's watching
She's laughing, she's turning
She's holding her tonic like a crux
The room suddenly spinning
She walks up and asks how you are
So you can smell her perfume
You can see her lying naked in your arms
And so there's a change
In your emotions
And all of these memories come rushing
Like feral waves to your mind
Of the curl of your bodies
Like two perfect circles entwined
And you feel hopeless, and homeless
And lost in the haze
Of the wine
And she leaves
With someone you don't know
But she makes sure you saw her
She looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
Your blood boiling
Your stomach in ropes
And when your friends say what is it
You look like you've seen a ghost
And you walk
Under the streetlights
And you're too drunk to notice
That everyone is staring at you
And you so care what you look like
The world is falling
Around you
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
And you know that she'll break you in two

I come back to this song so often. I'm not even experiencing heartbreak and haven't in years but this song is just SO good it makes me long for that FEELING again
Me too!!!! I first heard this song many years ago on the radio while driving through Houston and I was balling so bad that I had to pull my car over!! But, unfortunately they never said the name of the song or who it was by! So, that was it! I heard possibly the best love loss song ever written and I would never hear it again, which made me cry more. Fast forward to a few months ago and I was looking for the song Goodbye Horses from Silence Of The Lambs, but instead of the original song coming up first, it was a cover by some crazy named band I never heard of called The Airborne Toxic Event. With a band name like that I had to click on it and see how it was. To my absolute delight, their cover was, in my opinion, better than the original. So, I looked through the rest of their playlist and saw this song. It had millions of views so I clicked on it and was absolutely thrilled to find this song again!!!! I grew up in the late 70’s and all of the 80’s, the music I fell in love with back then was and still is spectacular! Even so, I have to say I do believe this is the best damn song ever written!!! Everything about it is perfectly achingly painful and absolutely brilliant!!!!
Perfectly stated
I think that represents the feelings of MANY of us
Tell me you don't want to feel heartbreak again cause that would be weird
@@PeterNgolaI kinda get it. I'm soon to be 47 and have been married for 17 years. There are times I find myself missing those intense feelings from my youth that I haven't felt in so long.
That said, I'm also aware that I'm simply romanticizing those feelings. Actually experiencing them is completely different. The mind does a fine job at blocking out traumatic feelings and pain. It's worse than you remember.
Caught mine cheating after 11 years. Wonder what happened after midnight 😢
Why does this song always have to come on when I'm piss drunk :..(
Like it sneaks up and taps me on the shoulder and says, "hey... I just wanted to let you know that... YOU'RE GONNA CRY"

Really missing driving these days. There’s nothing better than being on your lonesome with the volume cranked up and belting out this beautie. Let’s hope we’re over this nightmare soon
Next year im guessing but we'll all be drinking; thinking of this for the rest of our lives.
Funny you commented this... I decided to do one of those dumb challenges on Instagram stories... 30 days of songs. I chose this song as “a song to drive to”
I also picked this as day 7 of the 30 day song challenge!!!
Anthony Jennett I so hope so Anthony. And I totally agree about belting out a song like this as you’re driving along. I stumbled onto this song because the band’s name caught my eye. RUclips recommended it to me after I’d been listening to an old Yeah Yeah Yeahs song and it’s a new favourite already - gets you in the 💔...

The lyrics are visceral. This is a trauma that every human can relate to. It rips your heart out and you can FEEL the lyrics. Also it's refreshing to see the comment section full of men being open about the song.
Your right.I'm a guy and I've felt inclined/entitled to feel it MORE. But your right In your own comment: "This is a trauma that every Human can relate to" As R.E.M said: "Everybody Hurts"

This song makes me sad for girls. I'm a guy and in 2021......Girls have SHIT to pick from. From what I've seen in the last 30 yrs.....Just get a dog.
This was the best music ... Miss those days...
As I’m downing glass #4 of wine you know my feelings
You are not alone.
When I first heard this tune, my life was falling apart. On top of that, I was madly in love with a woman, which I gotta believe it’s what this song is about. I would drink myself to sleep night after night listening to this song. I could feel myself being pulled into the video. Life goes on and time heals all, but all it takes is a few ounces of good bourbon and this song and it puts me right back in that time.
Almost every man can relate to these lyrics. A woman you love slipping out of your hands and you are utterly powerless to prevent it. You can rage and cry but knowing none if it will make a difference. 'you just have to see her, you just have to see her'...like it's the only thing that will keep you breathing. Amen to that.
Amen.
Damn.
This.
I feel my soul change forever when that happened to me. I was forever changed. Not better not worse but just different. In the mere reality that I could never go back prior to this pain is a whole hurting in itself
This comment is as good as the song. Nicely said, friend.
We've all had, or will have at least one obsessive, toxic relationship in our lifetime that everyone but you knows is just no good. Quitting this person can be like kicking a drug addiction; paranoia, anxiety, depression, even sweats, chills and nausea. And like a drug, even though it's poisoning you can make you feel more alive than anything else in the world.
Jason Walter Perfectly said Jason. I couldn’t agree more. And what a great song. I haven’t seen my one in three years now but I still dream about him, more so since lockdown started. The band name really caught my eye by the way...I arrived here via a Yeah Yeah Yeahs song.

One of the greatest songs of all time. Has to be top 10 in retrospect. Hindsight, whatever you want to call it.
Captivating emotions, raw truth, simple performance, understandable. The only people that disagree, have never felt emotion, are questionable, or tepid at best.

Been there!!!
If this song doesn't make you cry, you've been very fortunate in life.
Yeah….
indeed.
I don't know about that. Human emotion is an incredibly awesome thing, oftentimes only fully appreciated in hindsight. Heartbreak is horrible in the moment, but my god does it make you feel more than you ever have. It's so weird that you feel like you could die, and yet those emotions are the most electrifying feeling.
I think it’s unfortunate If you haven’t experienced true heart break.
You get over your heartbreak.
it took me 10 years to get over my version of this girl.....don't waste your life like that move on while your still young
Kingsley A you'll never get rid of it. It was obviously so good if 10 years on you feel this way. FB is poison.
10 years on but you still talk about her? Man she will never leave that place you put her in!! A truly unique feeling
Same
took me four years lol
How...? How do you "get over" it. Me and my girlfriend broke up after two years, I could count the days on my fingers of how many days we didn't spend together. I miss her so much. She seems to be doing better with this moving on stuff than I am. I've already heard all the cliches, "time heals" "surround yourself with friends" "indulge yourself within your hobbies." So far it has been three weeks, and I don't seem to be doing any better...I can't believe I threw two years down the drain due to immaturity (I just turned 20 still learning a lot about myself).
This song used to bring me to tears and make me sick with how much I related to it. It's a bittersweet feeling when a connection like that ends.
This goddamn song.
Brilliantly constructed. Get's me everytime.
Right??? It's not unnecessarily complicated. Just simple and brilliant.
Get’s?
Since the apostrophe marks ownership or a missing letter, I’m curious as to what you mean...
Does “me everything” belong to “get”?
Get cannot own anything as get is a verb.
So I’m assuming get does not own me every time as ‘me everytime’ is not a noun and not able to be possessed.
In that case the apostrophe must be to mark a missing letter.
Get is me every time? Get us me every time?
I’m confused.
Gets*
I’m also an absolute arse for this but if someone learns then it’s worth it .
PEACE
Banging song x
Same.🌼
I know right?
was just explaining that to my best friend. it's hard to put the finger on it. so many elements... the build of the instruments... the lyrics being followed by a slow moving angst and then the release of it all meeting and spilling out between one's ears.
This song brings back memories of every painful break-up I had in my youth. I'm 66 now and have been married for 33 years, but the memories still come rushing back.

Yea you described it perfectly. This song makes me think about all of the good memories that I had with her. All of the good times and amazing experiences that I had with her... they wouldn't have been the same with any other person. She was the one who made me feel like the luckiest guy in the world whenever I was with her... She made me happy. She meant the world to me, and I loved her to the point where I did have to let her go. She had dreams and goals that she wanted to accomplish in life, and I knew that she wouldn't be able to fulfill them if she stayed with me... So I had to say goodbye. Maybe my life will be just fine without her. And who knows? Maybe we will meet again like you're saying. But until then, I'll keep the memories of her playing in my head as this song plays on repeat...

I know nobody cares, but this song is so unbelievably powerful to me. The love of my life left me and got engaged to someone else a few short months after we broke up. That was right around the time I discovered this band. I'm in a really great relationship now that I see going to marriage and for life, but watching this video made me feel everything I did before. TheStormofStorms Wire brush on cowbell, maybe. Hard-core "Everybody's got something to hide", probably would not work here
IJustShot MarvinIntheFace i love how his emotions rise in tempo with the song
One of the most underrated songs and bands of all time!
"Underrated" That's why it has over 12 MILLION views.
I heard it in a few movies too this song was popular,
This is an example of how a work of popular or rock music can transcend the banal and truly be ART
"Sometime Around Midnight"
And it starts
Sometime around midnight
Or at least that's when you lose yourself
For a minute or two
As you stand
Under the bar lights
And the band plays some song about forgetting yourself for a while
And the piano's this melancholy soundtrack to her smile
And that white dress she's wearing, you haven't seen her
For a while
But you know
That she's watching
She's laughing, she's turning
She's holding her tonic like a cross
The room suddenly spinning, she walks up and asks how you are
So you can smell her perfume
You can see her lying naked in your arms
And so there's a change
In your emotions
And all of these memories come rushing like feral waves to your mind
Of the curl of your bodies, like two perfect circles entwined
And you feel hopeless, and homeless, and lost in the haze of the wine
Then she leaves
With someone you don't know
But she makes sure you saw her, she looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
Your blood boiling, your stomach in ropes
And then your friends say "What is it? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Then you walk
Under the streetlights
And you're too drunk to notice that everyone is staring at you
You just don't care what you look like
The world is falling around you
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You know that she'll break you in two
This song just wrecks me.
Join the club.
This is the first song I’ve ever heard that gave me a full on out of body experience doubled with chills and numbness that I haven’t heard any other songs compete on that level. It’s so amazing and scary at the same time.
This is like a kick in the gut when you least expect it.
Haven't heard this song in so long, it's an all time classic and it's not showing any signs of deteriorating with age. Only getting better in my opinion!
This is one of those songs you remember your entire life!
Yep
Confirmed!
"The violins are essential & really make the song complete & completely awesome."
Something I never thought I would ever say & for those that know me, a seemingly impossible utterance from these lips...
One of those rare songs that affects everyone.
It's been 15 years... I'm still not over the one girl i loved
Nobody will replace her... but someone else can still come along.
i feel for you jose. i hope you can find peace in someone new or maybe that day will come when she stumbles back into your life when you least expect it...thats what im waiting on at least.
lol get over it.
It happens...
I can relate 13 years here
You can’t understand, but if you do understand then you get it.
That’s what’s this song is about.
I’ve been broken in two and I’ve been broken in so many more pieces but yet I’m still whole. I’m still here.
I like that
15 years married and still madly in love with her when she left in 2013. I survived, and found someone that loves me back!
Thank you for this
awesomesause
i'm so fucking sorry for your wife!
I relate to you IT took me 19 years to find my ground
Right on sir. Never let anyone's decisions hold you back!
Hang in there broken hearted ! ❤
do people realize what an amazing video This is? I heard the song on the radio and was mesmerized. So I had to see the video. I used to make videos and I can tell you that this is an absolute Masterpiece of a video to go along with an amazing song and music
The type of song that makes you wish your volume control had a infinity setting!
Hard to explain but that violin shot at 3:10 could only exist in songs written from 2005 to 2010. Great track.
Anyone listening in late 2019?
Fuck yeah! And they're playing in LA in april 2020!
Story of all men :/
Vinnie Perez All the time!🤘
@@karabohm8174 tell me what you think about this one? I'm digging your playlist. //ruclips.net/video/m3MZOGqe18Y/видео.html
❤️🙏 🎸
Man, this song makes me feel things and I've never even been in a real relationship before. That's how you know they did something right with this song.
I love how the tempo (if that is the correct musical term) and the complexity of the music builds to convey the building and confusing emotions being experienced in the song. Just fantastic use of music to tell the story. Based on the end....he does not find her. Love this song.
A girl I really like showed me this when we were at a party and I'm pretty sure it made me fall in love with her
This is so me I’m lucky I didn’t let her leave with someone I did not know
Asked her to dance and 45 years later she is still in my arms. Take a chance you never know !!!
Who’s listening to this in quarantine
before, during, and after
Forever! It's just so haunting, I can't turn away from it 👻
Just flipping thru my FB page and got down to my post from their show at the Fillmore on 11/02/09 which led me to here. I haven't heard this song in awhile and I had forgotten how powerful it is. That was more that 11 years ago. Man, time flies. I wonder what happened to these guys?
I listened to it before, during and after..... because it's that good
One of my all time favorite songs I absolutely love how the music intensifies with the emotion of the story.
This is a great song. This deserves more views than anaconda and all about that bass and all those other shitty pop songs
amen to that my friend.
Ivan Cuevas Soria sometimes ppl want booty songs, and less times ppl want a relatable song about jealousy. and that's. okay.
+Ivan Cuevas Soria Listened to Anaconda and then listen to this. What's good Ivan?
+CourtneyIsNotAmazing For shizzle
+Aj Bon True. I'm just saying this song is great. Better than those other songs so chill mate. No hard feelings (:
+Marilyn Mitchell What you mean mate?
Ivan Cuevas Soria I listen to it almost everyday 😉 I agree with you...
This song has a hypnotic effect on me, just like this girl that I knew once...

one of the best songs made in the past 15 years.

Oh, and your friends say "What is it?

And you walk
Under the streetlights
And you're too drunk to notice
That everyone is staring at you

The world is falling around you

"dont care what you look like, the world is falling around you" so much power in this whole song. i feel a bond with anyone who can relate to this song.
P.S
too drunk to notice
I related to this while going through a dark time in my life. Now It just reminds me of where I came from and it means so much more.. love it
Even if your alone, I'm alone with you
Awesome song
NDJPro this was my jam when it came out much to the chagrin of my friends, I used to bang this when we were getting drunk playing games lol
Me too, looking for like minded people when it comes to this band and there tunes.
I dunno, man... Feels like U2 and Coldplay had a child and it's beautifully hitting my heart
This song is perfection. I could listen to it on repeat forever. Perfectly captures that angst.
Bukowski - no help for that
there is a place in the heart that
will never be filled
a space
and even during the
best moments
and
the greatest
times
we will know it
we will know it
more than
ever
there is a place in the heart that
will never be filled
and
we will wait
and
wait
in that
space.
💛
Damn it, Man
Love Charles!!! So stoked to see a great poem on a great song. Well done my friend. 🙏
G.Gucci, you're obviously doing well with life. Bukowski was right. Somethings don't ever get back to being right. Like an arm that gets cut off. You feel it missing and you know in your heart that it will never grow back. You can replace it with something artificial, you can come up with a distraction in order to redirect your thoughts for a moment , but you know, you know that never again will it be right.
Cyrsztof It can be partially filled by music like this.
Some songs I absolutely cannot listen to -- And it's not because it's a terrible song, it's because the truth and depression I relate to in the song are totally unbearable for me to be capable of hearing again.
This and stereophonics Dakota
Omg stereophonics yessss ans something corporate konstantine for me!!! And Pearl jam black. If I’m listening to these you know I’m depressed.
You should. It'll make you stronger
I have lived this song
I have died in it.
+RadioactiveSand I'm living it right now
That's kinda fuckin tragic man.
I've given you a "thumbs down" on your comment. Not because I dislike your message, but because I'm with you!
It just doesn't feel right to give a "thumbs up".
Hang in there, my friend! Hang in there!!!
+Achim Steigert I miss her so much man
I fukn love the violin and this song is the best
Most people have the same reaction to this song. for some reason the building nature of the song has a powerful affect on some people. More than usual I would assume. It gives me chills when I listen to it. I absolutely despise the girl in the song. Even though she's just a character in a story she represents so much to so many. I always had a picture of what she would look like which is why i never watched the video and now that I"ve seen it I imagined her pretty much the same as the director did. Cool. This is a great song and I F&*^*ing love it.
The whole scenario where you’re watching each other trying to be low key but you just
Know, and where you get memories or try to show off someone new is actually so goddam accurate. Honestly this song is one of the most realistic songs that people can relate to
This video hits home. I remember when I was in my early 20's and saw my first love with someone else after we had already broken up.
not many worse feelings
Luke Schultz, you recognize that some folks are missing limbs and stuff, right? That's gotta feel worse than a pretty girl deciding she doesn't like you anymore.
juan sempertegui i was too much of a coward so i moved away 7 states away to forget her.
She was still sticking her knife in my heart , she would come over and make love to me just to make me miss her more then she would go back to that other guy.
So i had no chance of moving on lime that. So i left California for good.
I feel you buddy
Truth
Xana Montana 💔
This song is sitting alone, surrounded by people, while you get pulled back under, reminded of a time when love had meaning, and hope was high, where your life had a future and everything didn’t hurt.
Perfect.
That is an emotion we will all have, or have had...
When you were young
