  • The Queen’s guard is no regular job. We showed you in the last video what it takes to be a Queen’s Guard, including how they train and what their duties are. Well, this time we’re going to show you a bit more, such as what they go through at their positions in Buckingham Palace. Don’t even kid yourself into thinking that all that marching, screaming out of commands, and clacking of heels is all an act; they are very serious. If you happen to get in their way, you don’t want to know what happens next. Here’s why you don’t mess with the Queen’s Guard.

Some of the skins are passed down and can be used for up to 100 years. These are prised and honoured items among The King's Guard. The MoD purchases around 200 skins per year which are largely taken from the annual cull in Canada of some 20,000 bears. A fitting use rather than something PETA should complain about.

When I first began watching the English royal guards, I didn’t know much about them. They looked clownish and the whole thing appeared more like a day at the amusement park. At least that’s how I observed most tourists treated the events. HOWEVER, I have been reading a lot about the Royal Guards and their history and function. I’ve studied about their duties, the different uniforms, the day to day expectations, their jobs……. I now have a whole new perspective of the English Royal Guards. I have a whole new profound respect and admiration for them! I believe that most people don’t take the regiment seriously enough and many people are downright rude, badly behaved, and disrespectful. I truly believe that the guards should not be aloud to be photographed or approached within at least 20 feet. And the horses should never be allowed to be touched. Before entering the royal grounds, people need to be given fair warning of rules and bad behavior. I’m glad I pursued learning about the English traditions.

25 years ago - friends and I were visiting Windsor Castle. It was in January and I think there were only a few tourists there. A friend and I were just chatting and NOT paying attention to our surroundings. Our husbands yelled at us to get out of the way. THAT’S when we hear - “MAKE WAY FOR THE QUEEN’S GUARD!” We definitely would have been mowed down if we hadn’t jumped out of the way. Before that day, I hadn’t even known there WAS a Queen’s Guard! 💂‍♂️ It was one of my favorite moments of our trip.

Just watched a couple of those Tomb of The Unknown Soldier videos today. Me as a limey, you are exactly right.
It really bothers me that most younger people cannot understand the sacrifice that people made when they thought that they were doing what was best for their country. Many people today would laugh and mock anyone joining the military, even though the regimen and discipline is what gives you a better life. I should have joined when I was younger as I was a good marksman at 10, even better at 12, and excelled at 14, but friends and stupidity took me down another path as I grew into a teenager.
What does a country do when it knows a majority of it's younger people would identify as the opposite sex to avoid a draft? Having said that, with the knowledge we have about governmental warmongering and profiteering and those that love to do it, I don't blame them.

Very best wishes from England. Yes, the Guardsmen are an important part of the ceremonial traditions of our country and it isn't an easy job putting up with high-spirited tourists. The Guards regiments are highly trained soldiers who have served in many conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan. I have huge respect for the US military and value the special relationship between our two countries. I have watched the sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington and understand how much that memorial means to the American people. I share that respect and the emotions it brings to mind...

You fail to point out that these ‘Guards’ are regular, highly trained, Infantry soldiers. These Royal duties are just a small part of what they do. When the various Regiments aren’t taking their turn in carrying out these ceremonial duties, they are carrying out their normal duties as combat ready soldiers. They have been deployed previously into Iraq, Afghanistan, The Falklands etc etc.

As a former guardsman with almost 10 years service in the Irish Guards the salary wasn’t anywhere near 32k when I was in. A young guardsman say 18 or 19 in F Company Scots Guards or nijmegen company grenadier guards just out of the depot will be on guard duties in London and their pay will be just over 18K a year. Just for context it really annoys me these videos don’t mention all guardsmen are trained killers all guardsmen are infantry soldiers first and foremost who have been deployed to every conflict the British military have been involved in throughout British military history. So anyone reading this should understand guardsmen have fought and died in lands like Iraq Afghanistan Kosovo the falklands and all over the world in world war 2. David Sterling the founder of the SAS was a guardsman. G squadron in the SAS was primarily all guardsmen taken from the independent guards Para company even to this day most commissioned officers in G squadron are former Guards officers. My old company commander who took over support company my old company came directly from a 2 year command posting in the SAS. So please make sure you tourists don’t get things twisted guardsmen are not toy soldiers they are the real deal. Quis Separabit.
