Polymer magazines
A detective was asking questions when a robbery took place across the street. He yelled police and they opened fire.
The detective dove on the ground behind a vehicle and the polyner magazine of his pistol hit the concrete, and all his bullets rolled out on the ground.
@@jaredleicht1656 That truly sucks, but if he hit the ground that hard with a steel mag, he may have just as easily crimped the steel mag at the feeding port or popped the metal or plastic base rendering a malfunction. In either case, its a malfunction and you treat it as such, dumping the trashed mag, load and rack another full mag. To be clear, I too prefer metal mags, but sometimes, polymer is all you get or have access to.
@DavidHBurkart
Ya, unfortunately, detectives don't carry spare mags.
Metal can withstand an impact far more powerful than plastic can. Just have to face facts.

People don't lose their value with age.
A while back, I built an AR-10 out of an 80 lower. They are similar, but not exactly the same as an AR-15 where assembly is concerned. That said, it is built as a longer distance precision platform. The only drawback is the cost of .308 ammo limits the amount of fun I have with it.

I've seen the .556 to .22 LR conversions but this was new to me.
Thanks.
YES…!
It's 5 less AR's so it's less lethal than the scary ar15 that is as heavy as 10 boxes you might move.
Am I the only one who misses the carrying handle on the AR's?
I do miss it but, it's easier to mount optics without it. What I miss are iron sights & a bayonet lug.
when i was in the Army ( 82nd airborne div ) they would break our balls if we used the carry handle even though that was the whole purpose of having it, " nice M-16 briefcase"
@@commiesnzombiesthe “ carry handle” was originally a brush guard for the early AR’s that had the charging lever on top of the upper receiver. The “ carry handle” housed the charging lever to prevent jungle vines and brush from getting caught up in it. Later on a redesign placed the charging handle to where it is today, but since the “ carry handle” also housed the rear sight it was retained till much later on the flat top came around. But yeah, carrying your M16 by that “ carry handle” was a big NO, NO.
I wish that Colt would bring back the LE901.
I love mine. Bought it the first weekend they came out. Low 3 digit serial number
@@gregorycovert3176You've gotten yourself a gem. I'd like to have one for my collection. Colt really dropped the ball with these. It'd be nice to have a dedicated 308 AR10 fighting rifle. Not all AR10s have to be DMRs and that's mostly what they are these days.
It was the only innovation colt tried in decades. When CZ bought them, I wondered if they'd direct them to get it back in production to have something different than the sea of ARs available everywhere else.
i thought Colt said they don't care about the commercial market sales anymore and were focusing on military / Govt sales
I thought it was a great concept and waited for one to show up locally. One never did. To this day I've seen a single 901 except on images. I have never been able to understand how gun brands can hose up or stuff a great idea into a gopher hole never to be seen again. Anyone seen a Ruger X-GI ?? Me neither.
The more I see people fire .308 the less I want to shoot 5.56.
I get the "3-0-Hate" reference now.

I'm glad I'm subscribed to your clips channel also Hickok, you have great content sir.
Seeing the close up on the fire mode selector made me reminisce about the first time I saw my M-16 in basic training in 1969. On the M-16 it was off, semi and auto and I remember how eager I was to see what it would be like to fire it on auto, although that was forbidden on the range.
Hey Hickok, great to see another video it has been awhile. I have learned so much about firearms from you that I just want to say thank you for everything you have done. Tonight I must take exception to a small part of your video. Your light hearted comments on your bayonet sent chills up my spine. Using one to make a joke and using one to take a life are two different things. I wish I could have made jokes instead of the other option.
One lower for everything ar10 an ar15 yes please
But how
The bigger the caliber the better as long as you can afford to feed it and handle the recoil. I really like the modular capabilities of the AR. Great video I love them all new ones old ones the shorts I get up early every Sunday to watch Sunday shoot A round it's one of the first thing I do in the AM.
Probably more likely to have feeding problems with 5.56 in that one. Just get dedicated platforms and do away with changing uppers back and forth.
i would think a 308 magazine well is much bigger than a 5.56 mag well
One day I'd like to be rocking some ear pro that isn't a bulky earmuff, forcing my head up and requiring risers on all of my optics, and a set that's _not_ $200. Indoor ranges all around me have either the crummy muffs people wear for chainsaw/lawnmowing or those useless foam bits. I would've been using my (noise cancelling Skullcandy) wireless buds this whole time but even as loud as I listen to rock music it's not certain to work. Maybe for outside shooting.
I hate it when people ask if we "need" a gun or not. It's a slippery slope of gun confiscation.
It needs to be taken within context. When we edit speech that much we slide the slippery slope of political correctness
@@330FoeSho Tell that to the ones taking the guns with such language.
Like we "need" 200 mph Lamborghini's...... no one's business.
@@TheWilferch That's right.
From the intention of the 2nd, it’s not at all about anything more than we the people must have access and be fluent with the tools a standing army may use to coercively violate our human rights with. The Fed gov certainly has no “need” for belt-fed fully automatic turret guns chambered in 50 BMG or the newer Sig chambered in 338 Norma, but if there’s a decent chance it might be used to kill or enslave you and your “tax dollars” provide it to the gov…at minimum, you should at least have access to purchasing the same if you want. You are footing the entire bill and only you are forcibly mandated to operate within the arbitrary confines of the fed gov. as is on full display currently, the fed gov investigates itself and always renders an innocent verdict for the very things it will no-knock end you or jail you and confiscate all your worldly possessions
Very nice piece of equipment. Yes, why not having it when it is completely legal, supported by our constitution.

Knew it was a Colt 901 soon as I seen the thumbnail, instantly clicked, this rifle should have seen service in the armed forces in a standardized role. Maybe SF or SOCOM played with them a little but I remember seeing the specs on this rifle and thinking it would be a good evolution over the M16A4s. I believe it may have came along towards the beginning of the end for Colt's monopoly on US service weapons, though I could be mistaken, too late in the game to secure the throne. Still it was not a bad design, the mag block feature was innovative for the era.

Prices are the oldest tool used to quell demand. It is inherently an infringement on our rights to make our rights a financial privilege to exercise.
@@johnb.6468 Your comment didn't sound like that of an American gunowner. Hmmmm. Then load you own @johnb. Pricing of private ammo companies (of which you may purchase stock for options) is not an infringement of your rights. You're whining about someone else not making your ammo/rights cheap enough for you to be satisfied. Be American and problem-solve it on your own. Start reloading. And don't cry to me about components and initial expense. I've been reloading since 1986 and load for 17 different calibers. It's not the private industries responsibility to make you happy about pricing.

Got my sons each a starter AR15 for a killer deal: just ATI OMNI HYBRID rifles. And they tricked them out pretty much in their own way. I had sourced a bunch of AR parts and an 80% lower that had been completed. My youngest son built his own 24" barreled .224 Valkyrie rifle and shortly after that he built a .308 AR10. He put a heavy 18" barrel but he used the Magpul Gen 3 PRS adjustable stock so he felt ot was too heavy. I ended up buying his heavy barrel and am building my own AR10 .308 now, the upper is complete but I haven't finish machined the 80% lower yet. I got a bunch of MAGPUL PMAGS for it, and I have all the parts to build it. Just going to run a SOPMOD stock. I also decided to source parts to build one chambered in 6.5 Creedmore. Pretty fun to build your own AR's I've done a 6.5 Grendel and 3 lightweight uppers in 5.56, eventually I will have them each their own completed lowers, and a couple of 9mm 16" rifles, using MEAN ARMS endomags and a standard AR15 lower and also a mag well modifier to run Colt stick mags. It's a fun hobby but somewhat expensive 😅.
The sound reminds me of the street shootout in 'Heat'.

It's not meant that way. It's like if you buy a bigger truck than you need for what you're doing and it ends up being a waste of money. Did you need it as in could you get by with less. Not should it be legal. Of course all guns should be legal.
