I don't know why watching a couple of the most "Friendly-Dad-Vibe" guys explain how to make an ice-pack (very helpful!) was so uplifting at the same time. Thanks Bob and Brad!
Holy cow! I happened to have everything needed and I made one yesterday and this morning I tried it and it was awesome! It was even colder than the gel pack I was using. Thank you!
I’ll tell you. This was a life saver when I recovered from my tkr . I made 4 of these and these home made packs on rotation…the best. Thank you for posting this.
I have made these in the past. My PT told me about them. I did PT in December and my insurance paid everything. Now it's January and I need one more round of PT. Then I'm on my own. My doctor did say before I found out about the insurance I could do my PT at home. I have everything I need here. Even a hand pedal bike and the balls I need. The only machine I used at PT was peddling with my hands. I have back problems so almost everything is sitting up, laying down or standing. I have my rubber cord for my pull exercises. I'm set up for home and will save about a thousand dollars. I priced the ice packs for the back. Not cheap at all. Glad I found these guys.
Hi B & B! I just wanted to thank you guys for all the great info you gave me over the past year ( since I found you). I had TKR last week, 5 days ago , and am doing better than ever! About 75% of my successful recovery is due to all the preliminary work I did ,after watching your videos on getting ready for TKR surgery. I followed them diligently , then knew what I'd be facing during surgery( once again , thanks to you guys). Now I just watched your video (s) about the biggest mistakes people make AFTER this surgery, and found a lot MORE info regarding this! You guys are the best!! And you make me laugh, which we all know just AIDS IN THE HEALING PROCESS...So keep up the awesome work and know that you've helped change someone's life for the better😊
Hey Bob & Brad - thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent, easy to follow, video on the how to DIY to make a good cold pack. With upcoming knee surgery your experience is really helpful.
@Op Hs Whole shelves are sold out in the stores because people are using it for disinfectant. Okay, we tried buying a bottle of Everclear at the liquor store, and it worked great! It's a little stronger than 70%--but it's great!
@@koblerville923 I had to laugh out loud. Give up my Absolute? I don't think so. If I couldn't make bloody Mary's for the last year during this pandemic I would have to switch to cheap beer. And I don't like beer.
Hi guys, I have been using a variety your suggestions (exercises) and am happy to report that my shoulder is much better. There is one exercise that I really have gotten a lot out of is the one you use a band and put a small pillow under your armpit... Thank you!
Good morning! Great tips guys! Whenever I use the frozen ice in a styrofoam cup, I always rub a bit of coconut oil on the area I'll be icing, first. Then I get a plastic bag of any type (I recycle the plastic grocery bags ) and put the cup inside with the bag tight against the bare ice. This way, it will collect the resulting melted water and will slide easily over the area your treating! If I have a microfiber cloth handy, I'll wrap that around the cup BEFORE I put it in the bag. These absorb water REALLY well and are not too bulky.
I had knee surgery (lateral meniscus tear and 2cm floating body) this past Friday, and have been using both the alcohol/water and salt water ice packs. They're perfect! The only issue I have had is the weight of either of them on my knee since removing the bandages.
At first I wanted to express my annoyance at how long winded this is and that this video could be made in two minutes but as the video progressed I was so lured in by the wholesome boomer charm that I watched the whole thing. Powerful stuff.
Thank you so much. Knowing that I can make these with salt that I already have in my kitchen has been very helpful when I needed more ice packs to help with an injury..
Tip for those without someone to hold open the bag for them: Find a bowl or cup with a similar circumference as the opening at the top of the bag. Place the bottom of the open bag inside the cup, and fold the opening of the bag over the lip. This holds the bag open and keeps the zipper part of the bag clean (not so important for this usage).
I use gel packs to keep my fhead cool when outside in summer. I get miserable in hot humid weather. Everything below the neck is OK. But my face turns beet red & makes me miserable. People think Im having a stroke or something awful. I thought losing weight would help but it didnt. I lost 60 lbs 8 years ago (keto & it has stayed off) & Im just as miserable in summer as I ever was. I like to put several of the packs in my backpack & change them out as I work or bike or exercise. With this trick I can keep as many as I have room in the freezer for. Thanks guys!
I use frozen pea bags for my tired old aching feet after working for 9 hours. They work well. Also frozen water bottles. You roll your feet on them. Using a thick towel underneath. I really like Bob and Brad's suggestions too. Way better than gel packs.
am getting silicone baggies to use instead of plastic - can’t wait to experiment - having knee replacements- 1st next week & this will be fantastic!! THANKS GUYS!! may God richly bless you for your wonderful work!! 🙏🏼💓🙏🏼
Wow, I’m going to try this once I get home, I play soccer every Saturday and I have hurt knees and my fiancé is a barber who stands a lot , can’t wait to surprise her
My hand surgeon and his physical therapist schooled me about these and they are the best . Just one thing I live in Phoenix Arizona and we have bad hard water so we have to use 3 parts water to 1 part alcohol .
I have a food saver that I dearly love. This would be great for the fast seal and then you wouldn't have to worry about Ziploc bags which have a tendency to bite the dust on you when you least need it to happen.
Awesome, I wanted to make these but I wasn't sure about the ratios. This is great, where I was doing therapy they wanted $20 for a medium pack. I bought one elsewhere for $8 and now making my own for pennies! You rock docs!👌
Thanks Bob and Brad. Looks like a great thing to try. They look like those would mold better to your body. I am recovering from knee replacement surgery and the surgeon changed around my pain meds and how much - etc and doesn't seem to want to work with me at all on what pain meds that I have taken that helped before surgery. It has been a rather disrespectful situation with me and my ortho Dr/ surgeon right now. I never experienced that before.
My Florida Blue OTC benefit catalog had an 8 inch English ice pack that I invested in. It wasn't very expensive but it really was so invaluable with the inflammation in both of my hands. I fell on both hands four years ago and had severe damage and some fingers. The trigger fingers from hell all the time. So we're trying to address it more tomorrow. But I'm looking at this to see how what you're suggesting works also. Thank you so much for all that you are doing to help us keep from accidentally killing ourselves. That is a blessing.
Oh my my bless your heart I so appreciate you sharing this I'm making one now it's much much needed I hope it's works just as good as the one at the physical therapy love and light both of you

Loved these ideas so much! I fell down yesterday and hurt my back. I’m going to try the zip lock ice + salt, cold pack. I’ve never hit subscribe button so fast to any other RUclips channel. Thank you so much!!
@@kariay50 Thank you, I feel much better. I used ice pack for 1/1.5 months. Later I continued doing yoga for back pain and now it feels like i didn’t hurt my back at all. :)
But I'm hurting now and need icepack right away. So I put icecubes halfway up in my ninja cup so about 1.5 cups of ice, put 3/4 cups of water and 1/4 cup of alcohol, blended it up like a smoothy and put in 1 quart freezer bag. Wala, instant icepack. Thanks for the recipe. You guys are awesome. between that and the rest technique spasm has stopped after 3 days of agony.
The ice cup and packs are also good for folks with chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). During an outbreak the skin becomes hot and itchy. Icing the hives dissipates that heat and relieves the itch.
If you can afford it, Amazon sells stainless steel roller balls in handheld holders that can be used over and over. They are amazing and stay cold for over 3 hours! There are several brands. I got one called Arctic Flex Massage Ball Roller..2 pack for $19.99.
I have done this, doubled up the bags, and they still wound up leaking. I think I need to use one of those sealers. You guys are so awesome by the way. I suffer from chronic pain, and I have gotten some relief from your tips.
I have found that the ice packs with the alcohol in them are almost too cold.. and the rice in a bag is fine if you just want something to gently bring you down from overheating. but absolutely worthless as a cold pack as they warm up to room temp in about 5 min. I actually prefer the gel packs because they stay cold about an hour then I can just switch it out for another if I need to. But they aren't to cold like the alcohol ones. I do make them though for my cooler, with salt bc they if they break it's nothing more than a saline solution and if one of those store bought ones breaks who knows what chemicals it is.
Guys, you CAN use a plastic cup, and if you have arthritic fingers, my trick to release the ice is MUCH easier: 1) Get a bowl ALMOST as high as the plastic cup. 2) Fill with HOT water. 3) Set plastic cup in bowl upright. 4) Watch for a little melting around edge of ice. 5) Over the sink, turn cup upside down. DO NOT try this with glass, which can crack with extreme temperature differences. Also, it's best to freeze in a container that is wider at the top than the bottom. You really SHOULD reuse the cup. You have now gotten a lesson from my "Applied physics for Kindergarteners."
do you have any videos on NSAIDs? They really help my back pain, (i've tried many forms of rehab and physipotherapy, but naproxen by far gives the best and most effective relief). but people tell me they're bad for the liver
Brad, I had gym injury what if I apply ice too late? I had injury 2 weeks ago. For the first 3 days I can walk and do normal activity. But the 4th days. I could not move. Is it too late for ice my lower back?
You should put a warning that salt lower the temperature of the ice up to -28°C (-18°F), and could cause skin burn easily. I got ice burn on both knees even though I only use the self-made ice packs less than 10 minutes. Only after the numbness dissipated that i feel the burn.
Try soaking a large microfiber towel with water, put into a large gallon plastic ziplock bag, zip it shut and lay it flat in freezer , you can even fold it if you don't have room to lay it flat. Then you can refreeze it over and over again
