The Ivory Tickler, "At Home" (July/August 2024): Clementi's Sonatinas Opus 38

Muzio Clementi's Sonatinas for Pianoforte, Opus 38.
Recorded on my Samsung Galaxy Tab8+ on August 4th 2024.
1 - Sonatina 1 in G major: Allegro; Tempo di Menuetto (Andantino).
2 - Sonatina 2 in B-flat major: Allegro moderato; Rondo (Allegretto).
3 - Sonatina 3 in F major: Allegro; Allegretto.
Today's program features the Opus 38 set of Sonatinas for Pianoforte, written by the Italian composer Muzio Clementi, who spent most of his career in London, England.
There he published music for the pianoforte, as well as instructional treatises on the playing of this new keyboard instrument with greater dynamic control, which had gained popularity over the harpsichord, which was perceived to have limited musicality.
Previously you might have heard the Opus 36 Sonatinas, recorded in October 2021, or also the Opus 37 Sonatinas, recorded in March 2023. Both the Opus 37 and 38 sets are comprised of only three sonatinas each, but their movements are of longer length with more defined Classical-Era forms, and demand a more robust pianistic technique than that of Opus 36.
