  • In this video, I demonstrate how I fixed a hatchet that came across my sharpening bench. The hatchet head was loose on the handle. This is a very unsafe situation and can lead to serious injury if the head flies off during use.
I showed how I removed the head from the handle. How I corrected the handle to accept the head again, and how I installed the head back on the handle.
If you found this useful you might also find value in this hatchet resource I put together where I discuss:
👉 Where to buy new handles for axes, hatchets and other tools.
👉 The different types of wedges when handling an axe and where to buy

👉 High-quality brands to look out for when purchasing these tools

What kinda prices do you charge for something like this, and then standard pricing for knives etc? What kind of time range does a typical western chef knife take? What's your Japanese knife sharpening equipment?

Hi Scott, I'm not sure that I charged extra for this, but generally I charge $10 for sharpening a hatchet and match the handle fee for installing it. Meaning that if a new handle cost $20 I charge another $20 to install it.
Standard pricing is on my website: americanedgesharpening.com/pages/pricing
I don't have specific equipment dedicated to Japanese knives.
