This is the clearest most helpful video on urban sketching I have seen, and I've seen a lot. You are very encouraging because you break down the process into manageable steps. I love the freedom to make mistakes and not have a perfect line. Watercolour washes are such fun. Thank you!
i just started US and i think this video is very useful. i love the quirky style and the way you break down a complicated building into details in order to make it easier to draw. Thank you very much for this instruction video! Very inspiring!
So wonderful watching you break down such a complex building, then adding color in a simple yet meaningful strokes. My class assignment this week is to do an urban sketch of the Museum d’Orsay. Your video has helped me create a roadmap for my own work. Thank you so much!
Amazing video and explanation! This is my first video of yours, and I was mesmerised by your art and your process. There are so many helpful tips too, can't wait to try them! Thank you! 😀
This video was extremely helpful! Drawing the building wasn’t an issue for me, even though my method was more of a basic shapes and then detail way. But how to add color…I love that you showed how to do that! Thank you so much, and if you’re able to, I’d love more how to add color tutorials on pretty much every medium you’re willing to use!
I was struggling with the duomo of Come when your tutorial was published. It was just blessing 😅 finally i could finish the drawing using your method! Thanks a lot for your very nice and helpful videos🙏
Awesome work and explanation of your process ,I have never done watercolors but this style of has me hooked 100% . I love how you simplify the picture and make it your own ,have yourself a great day Scottie . John Vancouver Island 🏝
@SketchingScottie This is quite a logical approach to sketching which forces us to think (plan) before jumping in. I may have seen the sequence slightly different in other videos. Thank you for sharing these tips !
Nice technique for simplifying the sketches. I tend to do to much detail from the start. This tutorial inspires me in my approach and I think it'll help me to find me own style along the way. Greetz from the 🇳🇱
Excellent video, I’ve been following along and your process was easily understood and enabled me to produce a sketch which actually is identifiable! Thankyou . I’m going to do a couple of practices before I watercolour ❤
Thanks for showing your process w a photo. Step 2 with the dots will help me. My picture is always going off the page. But I’m wondering - how do you block out the picture when you are outside looking at a real building and cannot measure dots on a photo?
You can still use dots to plan your sketch outside. For example you could look for important points like height and width of the building and mark those dots on the page to give you a general guide. I find it helps to have some points to aim for 👍🏼
Whenever he starts measuring dots my adhd kicks in and I can’t seem to follow instructions for the life of me. Then I start to crumble up my crappy drawing lol
This is probably the best urban sketching video I've seen. Thanks so much for breaking down the process.
wow thank you!
Agree!!
I love that you chose a really difficult subject to explain this, there's so much detail in that building it's crazy ❤✨
Haha yea it was crazy!😊
It’s so enjoyable watching you draw, I’d watch even if you didn’t teach.
Where have your videos been all my life? Will definitely try.
