I'd love to see this planter in art deco colors with gold accents. It would be stunning.
Even just one colour with the odd stripe as gold would be cool
I agree gold and black would be great! I also thought bamboo, so greens with a mat finish and a bit of gold. ☺
I like the shades of blue. A bamboo design with details of the natural bamboo sections might be interesting.
Black and gold, shiny.
I neeeeeeeed to see this piece in art deco style please Shelby❤❤❤
I never mind that things you make aren't necessarily a new technique or ' creative', I love your videos for the calming joy of watching you paint something beautiful x I always excitedly click when I see a new video of yours
Thank you!! I really appreciate your love!! I have a bunch planned for future moulds! I just want to make sure it’s entertaining for you to watch ❤
Absolutely agree!
Agreed! I would also consider this piece a challenge more from a design standpoint. It wasn't as technically difficult or time consuming to fill in the columns with solid colors as it would have been to add patterns, but this piece was still a challenge because this solid chunky graphic style is new. Figuring out how to work in different styles can be stressful but rewarding!
Yes. This! Regardless of how anything turns out (which is usually fantastic anyway), it’s just so calming to listen to Shelby. I also learn a lot about pottery, even though i might never even try my hand at it myself. 😝
Me too! I love watching Shelby create!
This mold just SCREAMS 1980s. The '80s had a bit of an Art Deco mini revival at least in the US. If you glazed this in a solid pale pink, mint or baby blue and put bright tropical flowers in it, it would look right at home on the set of the Golden Girls. It also has a very '50s feel, especially, again in those solid, pastel colors.
This is definitely an 80’s piece after the style of Haeger pottery in Illinois USA. Solid color ways in black, ivory, teal, peach & dusty rose would have been common. The shape is likely a ‘Console’ made for narrow tables in hallways or behind couches. Love your colorful interpretation. Cheers from the Midwest USA. 💜
I was a florist for a long time, adn we used to get containers that look like this. They were meant for, instead of loose flowers, to put wet floral foam in to make arrangements. Edit: Usually the ones this big went for large funeral arrangements or centerpieces.
For some reason this feels like the perfect thing to put coloring pencils in. Lots of them!
I was thinking for stationary too
❤❤❤
Their screaming 80s to me. Can we imagine one in black with the tilted bars gold? Or one in pink with the bars black. Omg 80s dream
I was thinking the same thing
Oh I love it! Yes I see the 80s inspo ❤
Yesss, total 80s contemporary vibes for me as well! I did a google image search but came up with nothing but similar 80s vibes ceramics! But I love the colors and the way it turned out😍
Yep, I immediately thought of it in a soft pink or cream. Definitely feels 80s to me.
It fits in with what my friend and I call “80s bubble furniture”. When it seemed like everything had those rounded ridges and came in soft pastel colors.
Gold+black+mauve. Vase meant for green foam blocks. I swear my mom painted several of these in the 80s. Filled with silk flowers of course!
If you push some drainage holes in the bottom, it would make the perfect little pot for cat grass for the kitties!
Getting major planter vibes!!! Also saw it as bamboo at first. Love the colors!!!
Oh gosh! Yes of course bamboo could be so cute
That’s what i immediately thought too!
This reminds me of vases that were around in the 80's. I can almost see it painted in a solid black, grey, or peach. So scarily 80's then
My thoughts exactly! I remember them being black with gold and the up an down strips being one door and the the diagonal ones being other colors.
I immediately thought of that too. It feels like something my mom would have had when I was young. 80's art deco. In black or peach.
💯 I can see this in my aunt’s apartment in 94.
Omg yes! I remember those oval vases in the 80's that had the pastel peach, grey or shiny black!😂😂
It also reminds me of Bamboo planters!🎍
Yes! I had the same thought. Or sponged/rag-rolled(??!!!)/some other paint technique that just screams 80s (maybe into early 90s)
I searched mid-century planter and came up with one very similar to this one. I love the colors you have used!
I'd love to see one in traditional artdeco colours: white, teal and navy or one inspired by Clarice Cliff
I love Clarice Cliff❤❤
My first thought was window box but it would make a great planter for succulents.
Beautiful. You could even use it in the bathroom as a makeup brush holder.
It reminds me of bamboo at first. 🎍 I think it'd look great with only one or two greenish colors as primary, then shade the roundness of the ribbon shape giving it dimension. Like a bamboo forest 😊
Very 80's ceramic base for a dried arrangement. Arrangement must include dried eucalyptus and hydrangeas or peonies. Colours on stripes might be dusty rose, salmon, dusty sage green, or mint. Lol. Total flashback moment fir me.
I definitely remember my grandma having this in the 80's with fake floral arrangements in it. It was a avocado greenish color with a brown over it. I wish I had pictures. It was in the sun room for years. If it wasn't this exact piece it was practically identical.
Looks like a planter.
My grandmother-in-law had a pair of these with aloe plants on her mantle.
yes! just needs drainage holes!
I think this looks like something my grandmother would have had for houseplants. I can picture it dark green and highly glazed sitting atop the wooden cabinet TV. I was a child in the 1950's so look at pottery designs from that period for clues. I remember the designs as being very organic. The design makes me think of bamboo. Good luck!
I was thinking the same with regards to the green planter. Good call!
It looks to me like a bamboo inspired design. In the 50’s different companies produced planters/pots like this in coral pinks, cottage green and pale yellow…also black and white. I feel like this was a piece inspired by that trend.
You could paint herb leaves on the diagonal columns & prehaps the name of the corresponding herb & they would be lovely window sill herb planters 🌿love your videos ❤
Oooooooo I love this idea!!!
beat me to it :)
I would love to have something like that!! Here's your basil... and your rosemary
Stunning. A real 70’s colour pallet with browns and oranges would be interesting on this piece.
It could be a planter for herbs grown in a window sill. My aunt did slip casting in the 70s, but I've never seen anything like it before. It's unique!
These make me want to store my art supplies in such as pencils and paint brushes .
OMG this with big fluffy blooms all tucked into it like a vase would be amazing. I'm thinking a gorgeous packed bouquet of peonies or hydrangeas or something would look incredible in it.
This looks as if it belongs in a Miami Vice series decor! I have seen things like this in either cream or black with gold. Love it.
It looks like an old Cookson Pottery mold from here in the U.S. I think they were based in Ohio, but either way they had several designs with a similar grove/ridge pattern.
This!
I just googled them and they have such cool forms!
Yes it does!!
I thought Cookson only sold finished pieces? Either way, it looks SO much like a Cookson piece. I couldn't find it, exactly, in any (U.S.) deco pottery listing unfortunately. Believe me, I looked. A LOT 😆 Definitely an art deco piece though.
@@QuivaRPG They may have, but it's definitely Cookson adjacent.
I, like many others, also saw this as bamboo. As such, I think it would be so cool if you painted them a light green, did a wipe-away wash of a darker green, then paint thin horizontal lines to make it look like actual bamboo!
It also screams a log are bamboo pile to me. This shape can also be see for windowsills. Most off the time I see them much larger, but this shape would be perfect as a plant pot in a window sill.
these are gorgeous. I would love to see one done in a matte white/cream with the diagonal stripes a gloss gold. I would also definitely use these as planter pots.
You can glaze fire vitrified. Use hairspray inside, let dry. Then glaze. I accidentally fired to cone 5 once instead of 05 and was able to glaze fire after.
These are so odd but once you painted them they look amazing and so you!! ❤
OH MY GOSH!!! That is so brilliant!! Thank you so so much!!!! This is why I love sharing on this platform because I learn cool groovy hacks like this! Thank you! I am going to have to try that and see what happens! You are amazing *hugs through the screen*
Definitely test one first. I’m not sure how your clay will react. I use a stoneware. But I’m really happy I could share some knowledge. Good luck!!
My first thought was that these would be fun for pride month! I feel like the column shape lends itself well to different pride flag colors!
It would make a great planter. I don’t know if it was meant to be that. I feel like my mom had something similar that was glazed all over in a thick 1970s speckled avocado green.
This piece looks like 1980s. I love love love these! Less is more and glad you restrained from adding more than just color block stripes!
Id love to see this piece go FULL art deco. Black glaze all over, with gold stripes where the shapes meet
Love these! Love the green and blue one I think a collection of them in different monochromatic themes would be awesome!
I agree looks like a planter. Also looks like needs a lid. They give me 80’s vibe.
As a Canadian I though only we called napkins by the word serviettes!
In the mid ‘80’s, there was an art deco revival! I believe that has to be from 1985-6ish, and it looks like a garden planter
Totally would love to see these in black and gold!
Love this piece. Especially the blue green one. Would love a more monochromatic one.
These are really special Shelby. I'm having a really tough time right now and I just want to say thanks for your videos. You are always so cheerful and your designs always bring sunshine to my day. Love from Colorado. 🔆🌼💛✨️
That is a stunning mould, I truly LOVE it.
This immediately made me think of the gothic mushrooms you did and doing the whole piece black with gold in the grooves and bottom. These turned out stunning. Love your work.
It looks to me like a decorative vase, that might be used in a florist's for a decorative spray. Think, birthday, funeral, memorial..... It could be dipped and easily glazed for a quick production piece. Think all red for Valentine's Day, black for drama, pink or blue for a gift...and yes your stripes are lovely.
This just a flower pot/vase from the 80s my mom got one with mother day flowers in it. Exact same thing except her was just came in white. I like the brighter colors that you did. Ours became the loose change bowl. Until the cat decided to weaponize it against the dog and push it off the table onto the dog's head.😸
These are amazing in funky kind of way. These were flower vases back in the 70's and early 80's. I remember seeing them just in plain white at a number of different funerals I went to as a child. My mom got one and it was used in our home for fresh flower from her garden.
I love seeing what appears out of the moulds so enjoyable
The blue and green one is my favorite so far. I'd love to see this done in different greens. Or a light yellow-green with a darker green antiquing to bring out the shapes. And then it would be awesome as a windowsill planter to put a couple of small pots of herbs in.
In my country that design is for copper vases usually to go with tombstones! For the flowers! 😮
They are so funky! I love these! I know you don't always love the pieces that you can't put lots of art on but picking the colour palette is still a really interesting artistic choice and they are still very beautiful pieces
I love the green/blue one, I think a more limited palette like that truly brings out the best in the piece. Beautiful and informative work! I'm here mostly for you as a person and art, so every video is a treat.
Oh my gosh the one with the diagonal stripes all in blue and the rest of the piece in oranges and greens is my FAV!!! ❤ I think you’re too hard on yourself Shelby. These came out beautifully!
What a great planter that was used for live flower arrangements back in the 80s.
I think this is one of my favorites you’ve done! The aesthetic is very comforting in some way, nostalgic and can be made to fit any kind of decor!
Art Neuvo...
Mid Century Modern...
I wonder what it would look like with mint green glaze wash or turquoise
I see endless possibilities with this art deco planter mould!
OBSESSED with the MCM feel of this planter!!!
It looks like it could have a lid. Definitely very interesting piece.
I absolutely love every colour combo! Gorgeous 🎉
Major 1980s vibes from this mould. I feel it unlocked buried memories from my childhood.
If it was me painting the piece, I would have done some vining type flowers along the swoop and just a few colors around the other part. Or even a couple of koalas hanging onto or napping on the swoops. Im really partial to the peachy color you use. I agree with someone else that it kind of gives bamboo vibes. Because it's so long it could have all sorts of uses and hold all sorts of things. P.s. loved your shirts the the very first and last clips. You have such a fun style
That is so creative ❤ I love your ideas
Such beautiful pieces! I love the one with all the different shades of blue. So elegant.
The finished pieces are beautiful!
In the 81 when my dad passed we got what looked like that as a flower arrangement. It was painted like bamboo and had fake frogs attached. Had it for years until sadly my brothers accendently broke it. Lots of memories thanks for sharing.
I actually gasped when you opened the kiln. So pretty!
The greens and blues one is stunning!
Gives me 80s vibes- like peachy pink with the black stripes. But I love what you’ve done!! They’re so cool!
I love them especially with the flowers you put in them.
Surprisingly, the blue green is my favorite! 😍
It reminds me of the planters my mom had back in the late 80s and early 90s.
My grandmother did ceramics and she had this piece back in the 80's. It was cream in color with gold trim. Simple is best for this vase.
My favorite is the blue green. It looks terrific!
The colors are gorgeous!
The different colored stripes are lovely :). I have no idea what this piece is but I think they'd look great as one color too!
They are all so interesting and striking! When I see the columns, I think of yarn, and would find it interesting if you did a gradient of the same two colours across the entire piece. It would be cool if there were a lid where the columns met up. Alas it’s probably lidless but I think it’s be cool
It's so weird- because I'm getting Art Deco, MCM and 1980's (burgundy with gold accents) vibes. lol Then you put your Shelby spin on it and I think I love it more. I would totally use it as a planter for my Christmas cactus or a RicRac cactus. 🥰
Looks like a retro toaster!!! Love it ❤
I think the colors on the test tile piece are gorge! Would love to see a fully art deco version
Love the mixed up sample colors!!
It turned out really cool! So many new colours to try!
I think it looks very Art Deco which would look so nice Black, White and touch of gold xx
I feel like my mum painted pieces like this in the late 90's early 2000's and all the columns would have been one colour and only the three stripes across the front would have contrasted. The whole dried flowers movement was big then and any vessel that could hold them was popular. A cute lil planter.
90’s version of art deco. A lot of them were painted mauve. Loving your videos!
The stop-motion segment was so fun to watch! Well-done!
My favourite piece was the one with the blue swipe through the warm colours. Something about the cool vs. warm. Love your channel!
I would use this vessel as a planter. The shape would be great for a shallow surface. So pretty!
I hv seen vintage 'planters' exactly like this shape! Usually were with dark green & the bubbled reliefs were in pink. There was a fade of the green rather than being a solid dark green. I hv also seen all pink or green & Cranberry. They usually had philidandroms planted in them with the leaves cascading down the front. One of FAV planters from the 40'-50's. I LOVE your YT! I love your excitement of discovery!❤❤❤
These are GREAT!!!!❤
The detail on the vase is sooooo good!!!!
It's so bold and yet so simple at the same time
White and blue would be gorgeous on this to give it a barbershop/ Music man vibe.
I really love that blue and green one. Just gorgeous.
These are gorgeous 😍😍😍
Oh, if that planter was worked up in Emerald green, or one of the McCoy colours, it would be so lovely.
Reminds me of bamboo stalks. Pretty in natural colors. Your end results with multicolor paints turned out great.
That piece would look cool in Black and White or Navy and White
Shelby you are so awesome! Your talent is something I wish I had.
This reminds of the floral arrangements that FTD would send out in the '70s or so, from america
The blue/green is my favorite. I like the complimentary colors.
love the colors!!
I think my favourite is the pastel one, though I also love the primary colour one and how bold it is! there's so many different colour themes you could try with this, I feel like anything could look amazing ❤❤
These are great!
